Both sides of the spectrum (+ a giveaway!)- ENDED!

My oven has seen both sides of the spectrum today.

Tomatoes

When I was home for my lunch break, my brothers were here hanging out with the Pilot and Oliv, and Kyle asked me if I’d help him make something for a Bacon Party he was headed to tonight with Meg. (For anyone lacking theme ideas for a holiday party, you’re welcome. Haha) Kyle always helps me with random errands/tragedies/life, so I knew I could help a bro out. The thing is, I don’t really speak bacon.

Bacon cookies

I like the turkey variety ok, but it’s just not really my thing. He knew he wanted to make something sweet, so I knew just where to go. I typed “bacon cookie” into the search bar and whaddaya know? Bacon cookies.. with peanut butter.

Bacon cookies 2

Thank you to Jessica for sponsoring 90% of our holiday desserts thus far 😉

Bacon cookies 3

(We doubled the recipe- that was about 1/3 of the final amount)

We made the bacon cookies, with incoherent stammering and victory dance moves from the happy guys “taste-testing” the candied bacon along the way. Word on the street is those cookies will rock your world (Kyle tried to peer pressure me into tasting one, but I opted out. They smelled divine, though.)

After Meg and Kyle headed to the party, I made some dinner using farm box ingredients that I didn’t want to go bad.

Butternut squash rounds with tomato goat cheese and roasted garlic-balsamic chicken.

Not.too.shabby.

We still haven’t Christmasified anything, but our neighbors are already on it! I’ll never forget the Pilot peering through the garage and swearing when he found out we moved onto Christmas Lane. Bring on the 10 ft inflatable snowman.

I hope you’re all enjoying the weekend so far! It’s been a beautiful and relaxing one.

Me and bell 2

Long run in the morning and then there are some crepes with our names on them….

Have a great night!

xoxo

Giveaway time! My PR friend at Canyon Ranch asked me if I’d like to give away two Canyon Ranch workout DVDs: “Strong and Sculpted”

Canyon Ranch Strong Sculpted product

(three 20-minute segments: yoga, strength and core, bonus segments on bone strengthening and protection, muscle building and foods to reduce inflammation)

and “Yoga for Strength and Energy” (two 20-minute yoga flows, a cool down and bonus features, including eating and sleeping for energy, healthy lifestyle changes).

The DVDs will be amazing additions to a quick and effective at-home workout routine, and here’s the kicker: you know those gluten-free chocolate chip cookies I’m obsessed with? I asked if they’d throw in a batch for the winner and the chef said yes 😉

Thank you so much to everyone for entering and congrats to the lucky winner (chosen via random number generator: page 1, comment 37)

Sam, who said:

I’d love to win because I need to start working out at home- I’m a med student and life is just too crazy to make it to fitness classes often enough! My major goal would be to wake up early and get my workout done before class, but this night owl does not like 6am!

Congrats, Sam!! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll forward it along to the Canyon Ranch fairy 🙂

Stay tuned for more amazing giveaways! xoxo

I have recently been trying to fit more yoga into my life–so relaxing and centering, as well as being good for strengthening and adding flexibility! Since I can’t regularly make it to a yoga studio, the at home DVDs would be a great addition to my library! I am also ALWAYS willing to give a new dessert a shot!

  4. Pinky on November 25, 2012 at 2:35 pm

I would love to win because I need some yoga Zen in my life after the thanksgiving break. We had 3 different families at our home to celebrate my grandmother’s 80th. WHile it was a blasty, it also was a bit cray-cray and a new yoga workout would be JUST what the zen doctor ordered!

  5. Ashley on November 25, 2012 at 2:35 pm

I am searching for the perfect Yoga DVD to introduce my Mom to the wonderful benefits of practicing yoga. She is having serious back issues and I truly believe if she begins to do yoga her pain will be relieved! If I win- I’ll be gifting my mom 🙂

The Canyon Ranch DVDs sounds like the perfect gift for my mom this Christmas!! She recently got into Yoga and absolutely loves it. She and I are both gluten free, too…but I’m not promising any of the cookies will make it to her 🙂

Hi! I would love to win because I am really turning into a cardio/running only junkie and I am looking for new strength/yoga routines to add. I just ran my fifth marathon in two years and and am kind of at a loss of what to do now that I decided to take a little break from running. The DVD’s would be a great start!

I’m in a workout rut! These DVDs would be the perfect solution!

  12. Lauren on November 25, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I’d love to win these DVD’s! I’m a huge believer in at-home workouts if I cannot make it to the gym. (which is hardly ever because I work almost 7 days a week) They still produce amazing results plus they keep me from bored with a routine.

  13. Alicia @NeverEverBeenSkinny on November 25, 2012 at 2:53 pm

I am not to much into Bacon either. Never really liked it and Bacon cookies are really weird sounding to me. You are a brave brave woman to try it!

  26. Mo on November 25, 2012 at 3:46 pm

I would love to win the DVDs. Having a new baby and a 3 year old makes it challenging to get to a gym. I’m looking for an at home option. Plus, those cookies look amazing!

  27. Mary Kate B. on November 25, 2012 at 3:48 pm

I would love to win these DVDs because I have recently discovered how much more balanced I feel after a yoga session. However, as a college student, I can’t afford to go to classes every week. I would love to have these DVDs so I could keep up the mind-body connection without having to go to classes every week and breaking my budget 🙂

  28. Jennifer P on November 25, 2012 at 3:48 pm

I’ve really been trying to improve my yoga poses & this would be a great way to practice at home in between classes!

  29. Jacki on November 25, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Would love to win the yoga DVD’s. I was diagnosed with Graves disease this fall and since then have gained 7 lbs since I’ve had to quit exercising during the treatment. I’m just starting to get back to it and feel that I need to add a couple of days of yoga per week to aid in digestion. I hit a low this week when my thyroid was running at less than 10% of what it was…they think they have knocked it out completely instead of the partial they were going for. I started synthroid on Monday so at least I know longer feel like I’ve been hit by a train and am getting some energy back. I took at yoga class last week and loved it but don’t love going out in the 20-30 degree weather we’ve been having lately!

  30. Shelby on November 25, 2012 at 4:07 pm

Would love to win these! Was just thinking that I’ve been through most of the DVD library!

  31. Katherine w on November 25, 2012 at 4:13 pm

I’d like to win so that as the cold settles in over the next few weeks, I could have an appealing indoor option for a workout. And because those cookies look like something special!!

  32. kristine palko on November 25, 2012 at 4:19 pm

I would LOVEto win because there can never be too many gluten free treats for me and I am absolutely falling in love with yoga and would like the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from someone else. First time my friends and I tried yoga (years ago) I was nearly kicked out of the class for my uncontrollable giggling…downward dog? Hehe. Live and learn!

  33. Tasha on November 25, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I would love these dvd’s! I’m getting a little bored with running/elliptical and this would be perfect to do at home!

  34. Gabriella Allen on November 25, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I would love to receive the yoga DVDs! I’m a little obsessed with yoga (it puts everything into focus, which I really need) but I go to school during the day & work most nights so I hardly ever have time to make it to class. Namaste November has really made me devoted though, and I’ve made it to class every Wednesday this month! But I’m afraid with a recent change in my work schedule that I won’t be able to make class at all, so having these at-home DVDs would be fantastic!
PS: Sorry for my overuse of exclamation points; I’m just excited.

  35. Betsy on November 25, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I have fallen off of the workout wagon and need a hand to get back on! These videos could be just the thing to motivate me again (and the cookies would en a great reward!).

  36. Melodie on November 25, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Pick me! 😉 I don’t have a gym membership and live off of at home workouts and running outside. So I always love trying new DVDs at home. Thanks for the giveaway.

  45. Crystal on November 25, 2012 at 5:00 pm

  48. Carissa on November 25, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Hello! I would love to win the workout dvds because I am in my last year of graduate school and am needing to lose the 25 lbs I’ve put on over the past year and a half while sitting in front of my computer writing research papers! 🙂 I am determined to lose the weight by summer 2013 and prefer to workout at home than at a gym. Also, I’d love to have the cookies for obvious reasons. hehe 😉 Thank you – my fingers are crossed!! Happy Holidays!
