butter in my coffee + get your KALE YEAH tee

Hi! Howโ€™s the morning going? Hope youโ€™re having a great one so far. After BODYPUMP and spin yesterday, my legs have that achy and sore feeling. I think a little yoga is on the agenda today to stretch everything out.

The other night was a bit of the rough one- we were up quite a few times- so the morning called for coffee.

We were out of almond milk, so I decided to give the โ€œbutter in the coffeeโ€ thing a whirl. Itโ€™s always freaked me out, but the friends that love it swear that you never want to drink coffee the same way again.

Just in case it was gross, I didnโ€™t want to put too much in there -I used about a tablespoon, which was plenty- and the verdict?

Photo 3 13

It was pretty good! It gave it a smoothโ€ฆ uhh, butteryโ€ฆ texture and rich flavor. While it was pretty good, I have to say that my favorite unique coffee add-in is definitely maple syrup! SO SO good in coffee.

So today, Iโ€™m excited to finally share the news about the shirt project Iโ€™ve been thinking about for years. Literally years! Since the early blog days, many reader friends have asked me to create a shirt. I always thought it would be fun to make a Fitnessista shirt, but wanted to wait until the timing was right and I could find a truly awesome supplier. There are quite a few low cost suppliers overseas, but I wanted a shirt made here in the US using organic materials and sustainable practices.

I finally found the perfect spot: Fed by Threads.

Fed By Threads Logo Diamond

Iโ€™ve been a fan of theirs for a long time, as theyโ€™re based in Tucson (my hometown!) and the owners, Jade and Alok, are beyond amazing. Jadeโ€™s Beautiful Body Project (<– features nude photos, just a heads up) has taken the world by storm and they also own the Movement Shala, where we filmed Soli Beat.

All of their clothes are made in the US from upcycled, organic and sustainable materials. Even better: they have an beautiful cause associated with their apparel. For every item sold, 12 emergency meals are provided to families on a local and national level. You can read more about their mission here.

I designed this fun KALE YEAH tee:

If youโ€™d like to get one, Iโ€™m only taking preorders, which will close next Monday. Iโ€™ll place the order on Tuesday and the KALE YEAH team will have comfy shirts to relax in this holiday season. Weโ€™re only doing one run of this fun design, so order yours ASAP! After ordering, youโ€™ll receive a confirmation email. Respond to the confirmation email with your size and shipping info. Iโ€™ll be packing and shipping all of the orders with love ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for helping me support Fed by Threads this holiday season!

I’ve tried bullet proof coffee (with coconut oil, butter and then make it frothy in my mini-blender), and while the first few sips were good, I couldn’t finish it.

I must be living under a rock, lol, because I’ve never heard of putting butter in coffee. But, I guess there’s always something new, right?

Not sure how I feel about it. I love butter but it just seems weird in coffee. Don’t know if I could give that a try. I’m not very adventurous. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. char eats greens on October 28, 2014 at 7:30 am

Butter in coffee definitely sounds interesting!!! I actually am trying out the Califia Farms almond milk iced coffee this morning that I discovered on your blog and since I’m away in Las Vegas right now, I actually found it (they definitely don’t have it up in Canada haha). I LOVE your new tee and was super excited when I saw it in the newsletter a few days ago!! I want all the kale shirts out there haha!!

  9. Carrie (This Fit Chick) on October 28, 2014 at 7:33 am

The shirt is so cute and wow butter! creative! I can imagine that tasting really good!

  10. Emma @ Life's A Runner on October 28, 2014 at 7:38 am

I’ve been too afraid to try the butter, but I definitely LOVE the maple syrup idea! I’ve always been a sweeter coffee kind of girl, but despise the fake sweet that comes with adding cane sugar. I can’t wait!

  11. Allison on October 28, 2014 at 7:42 am

I put coconut oil in my coffee-add a spoonful and the coffee to the vitamix and blend it up. So so good!! I’ll have to try the maple syrup-I would have never thought of that!

Shirts are so cute, and what a great idea!

  12. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on October 28, 2014 at 8:04 am

Love this idea but mostly I just love that they’re from Tucson!

  13. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on October 28, 2014 at 8:05 am

I haven’t tried the butter in my coffee thing but I really don’t think I’d like it. Despite being lactose intolerant, I’ve never liked the TASTE of butter so I don’t think I’d like it in my coffee…blech!

  14. Gena @ Life FuelFilled on October 28, 2014 at 8:16 am

I’ve tried ghee and coconut oil and liked it, but it just seemed like one too many steps to get me out the door in the morning. Now I just do a spoonful of coconut oil and blend quick with an immersion blender.

  15. Jenn on October 28, 2014 at 8:16 am

    I ordered mine! Sweet!

Would coconut oil work in coffee? That’s what I keep at work, but whenever I haven’t had milk around I just drink it black. Hmmmm

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 8:24 am

      :)! yay, thank you!
i think it would. i’ve heard of people adding coconut oil and or butter. i like coffee black, too, but sometimes it’s fun to add a little something ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Sandra on October 28, 2014 at 8:21 am

Do you have a pic of yourself wearing the tee by any chance Gina? Or could you tell me what size you are? Just looking for a frame of reference so I make sure to order the right size:)

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 8:23 am

i just have a plain tee, but not the printed one yet. i usually wear a small in other shirts, but would wear a medium in this one

      • Alexa on October 28, 2014 at 9:38 am

Could you maybe post a pic of the plain tee anyway? is the shape of it just like a normal cotton t-shirt? no ‘feminine’ shape to it?
        but they’re sooo cute ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Monica on October 28, 2014 at 8:29 am

Maple syrup I coffee is my fave too! So good!

  18. Amber Schumann on October 28, 2014 at 9:15 am

i started putting organic grassfed butter in my coffee a few weeks ago and I love it.

A cool weather life-changer for me was a coffee recipe inspired by Diane Sanfillipo:
    1tsp organic grassfed butter
    1tsp coconut oil
    1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Splash of whole fat coconut milk
    Fresh brewed coffee (extra hot)
Whirl in a single-serve blender (or I use a handheld milk frother… Best $15 ever spent)
    Pumpkin Spice Latte!!!!!
It’s so easy and yummy, I make it every morning before work and now I can’t even remember the last time I paid for a latte. She has a gingerbread latte concoction too.

In other news, I ordered my tee. My husband (Kale Hater) is going to have a good laugh when I rock it ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. Amanda @ Slimplify Life on October 28, 2014 at 9:25 am

Love that this goes to a good cause, really cool Gina!

  20. april on October 28, 2014 at 9:29 am

i just ordered my shirt ๐Ÿ™‚ so excited! it’s such a cute design, plus the fact that it supports a great cause is just an added bonus ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 10:58 am

so awesome!! thank you for ordering! ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Nicholle on October 28, 2014 at 9:34 am

    Hi,
I see the order button but there doesn’t seem to be any way to choose a size. Is it a “one size” shirt?

  22. Nicholle on October 28, 2014 at 9:35 am

Oops–I didn’t read the rest of the post about sending you the size after ordering. What’s the size range?

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 10:58 am

      S-2XL

  23. Erin @ Her Heartland Soul on October 28, 2014 at 9:51 am

I used to put half a jar of sugar and milk in my coffee every morning, but finally went cold turkey and switched to black coffee. Now I’m weird and don’t like anything in it. I think I went from one extreme to the other!

These are cute t’s! Are they available in V-neck by any chance?

  24. Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes on October 28, 2014 at 10:01 am

I don’t think I’d like butter in my coffee but I can definitely see how maple syrup would be delicious!

  25. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on October 28, 2014 at 10:09 am

The shirt is great! I haven’t tried butter in my coffee yet, mostly because I don’t really drink coffee. And I teach a double-header of classes on Wednesday nights so have been craving Thursday yoga. Have a good one!

  26. Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine on October 28, 2014 at 10:25 am

  29. Tracy on October 28, 2014 at 11:13 am

I tried the butter in my coffee and put it in a blender and it was perfect!

  31. Angela @ HonestlyAngela on October 28, 2014 at 11:46 am

I don’t know about butter in coffee – it just doesn’t seem quite right. I would still try it though. My favorite is almond milk in coffee. I don’t like my coffee sweet, just nice and creamy

  32. Nicholle on October 28, 2014 at 11:59 am

I think this is what started the whole “butter in coffee” thing: https://www.bulletproofexec.com/bulletproof-coffee-recipe/. BTW–coconut milk (the thick part without the watery part) is also good in coffee.

  33. Laura on October 28, 2014 at 12:04 pm

I will sometimes go away for the weekend and come home to sad milk ๐Ÿ™ My go to is a spoonful of ice cream! I may not always have milk, but I definitely always have ice cream in the freezer!

  34. Cat on October 28, 2014 at 12:07 pm

Glad you gave the butter coffee a go – I’m hooked on the stuff! As for the maple syrup add in? This I have to try! I’m sure a combo of the two would be utterly lethal… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  35. Megan Little on October 28, 2014 at 12:19 pm

I love putting Trader Joe’s Coconut Cream (the thick and delish kind) in my coffee. I don’t get to do it all of the time (i only make it there about every other month), but it is my favorite!

  36. Hollie on October 28, 2014 at 12:44 pm

I have heard of coconut oil in the coffee, but not butter. I might have to give it whirl.

  37. Lindsay on October 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm

Love the t-shirt! Will you ship to Canada?

      sure!

  38. Lindsey @ SimplyLindsey on October 28, 2014 at 2:29 pm

I’ve been so curious to try butter in my coffee but am still a little weirded out by it! Now I just might try it! Haha. My stepdad tried it last year and swore it was good! I haven’t tried maple syrup in my coffee, but that sounds amazing, especially with pancakes! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 4:11 pm

      it’s sooooo good ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola on October 28, 2014 at 5:34 pm

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2014 at 5:40 pm

they run small, so i’d go one size up!

  40. Shaina Anderson on October 28, 2014 at 8:17 pm

Not much of a coffee drinker nor butter…but it sounds like an interesting combo.

I love the t-shirt and just ordered mine…can’t wait! Such a great cause!

  46. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on October 29, 2014 at 11:21 am

I am loving “Bulletproof” coffee. I don’t do it very often, mostly on a random weekend day, but when I do I am quite full for hours. I use about 1 tbl grassfed unsalted (key!) butter, such as Kerrygold, and about 1 tsp coconut oil. Blend that up in a Magic Bullet or other small blender and yummy yum yum! A cool trick–put hot water in the blender while you’re grabbing the butter and oil so that when you use it (after dumping out the water), the coffee stays hot.

  47. Kimberly on October 29, 2014 at 11:24 pm

LOVE the shirt! Can we order them in a Men’s cut, or is it only available in women’s fit / sizes?

My boyfriend would looove this shirt (and then we could match haha)

    • Fitnessista on October 30, 2014 at 7:44 am

please send me an email and i can check with my contact to see if we can get a couple of men’s cuts printed. xoxo

      • Jess on November 3, 2014 at 3:12 am

I was going to ask the same thing, my brother would be all about this! Will they ship internationally?

  48. Julie @ A Better Life with Burgers on October 30, 2014 at 2:34 pm

I’ve heard of butter in the coffee. A friend of mine is a model (like real-deal runway model!) and she puts butter in her coffee, which makes me think it’s super chic. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also want to say that I really admire and respect the fact that you sought out a responsible source for your t-shirts. I wish all clothes (and all THINGS for that matter!) were made so lovingly!

  49. Rach on October 31, 2014 at 3:15 am

I’m not sure if you answered this already or if it blatantly clear and I’m just not seeing it for some reason but do you ship the t-shirts internationally?

  50. Umar on November 1, 2014 at 10:34 am

My morning is also incomplete without tea. Butter coffee is also an amazing deal.
