Date Night and Fashion Friday

Hey guys! How are ya? Happy {Fashion} Friday! What are you up to this weekend?

Thank you so much for the kind words on the pilot’s return. It feels *so.freaking.good* to have my love home again. He’s kind of fun, ya know? 😉

We went on a lovely date to Two Friends Cafe since it opened for dinner after the pilot left.

I had a redonk orange and basil cocktail.

cocktail

I have no idea what was in it, but it was sweet, earthy, and beautiful.

For a starter, we shared the portobella mushroom with balsamic reduction and scallions– asked them to sub goat cheese for the mozzarella

mushroom

I asked the server if I could please have a salmon salad with no cheese and balsamic on the side, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The executive chef, Randy, is incredible and always accommodates weirdos like me 😉

It made all of my salad dreams come true <3

We made a stop at the fireworks stand on our way home to get our supplies for the 4th, too 🙂

I just munched this bowl of chocolate cherry overnight oats:

oats

-1/2 C oatmeal, 1 T chia seeds + 1 C almond milk, all soaked in a bowl overnight

-1/2 C frozen black cherries (defrosted in the bowl)

-1 banana

-1 T raw cacao powder

1/2 T maca

-Vanilla, Stevia and pinch of sea salt

+ a 2 egg white puff

I’m off to teach bootcamp and then we’re getting on the road to ORLANDO! Family, oven yoga, Whole Paycheck, Millennia Mall and civilization, here we come 😀

See ya this afternoon!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do: It’s FASHION FRIDAY! Since so many of ya’ll asked me to write more about fashion, I thought it would be fun to throw this in the mix every now and again. Basically, I’ll pick one clothing style or accessory that I’m loving, write about it, and give ya some examples of where you can find it within different budgets.

Here’s one thing I’m loving right now:

me

Bold floral skirts!

me (2)

I’ve bought 5 floral skirts already this summer (!)- they’re light and comfy 🙂 Perfect with gladiators for casual/day or can be dressed up with strappy platforms or booties.

This particular one is from Express and is on clearance right now (which always happens to me after I buy something for full price- it’s the physics of shopping).

What skirt styles are you loving? Floral, animal print, belted, peasant and safari are all HOT right now 😀

As far as the floral skirts go, this bold patterns and fun colors.

Forever 21 has this super cute one:

Enjoy the rest of your day and I’ll see ya from ORLANDO!

That outfit is adorable! I love skirts too, but full A-line ones are my favorite. They never go out of style! Hope you have a wonderful start to your weekend 🙂

I’m totally loving the bold floral skirts too! So versatile, not to mention super cute!
The clearance comment made me laugh – I know exactly what you mean. I love to shop at Express, but I never go without my coupons or “fast cash”. 😉

    super cute outfit-very 80s 🙂 In a GOOD way 😀
i love skirts and sundresses and usually find the best ones at thrift stores or Kohl’s.
My fave dress style is super long with spagetti straps and safari inspired prints (70s style).

that drink sounds awesome!!! one of my favorite cocktails came from a tiny bar in south africa – it was called a basil grande and it was strawberry, basil, and cracked black pepper. amazing!! have a great trip to orlando!!! happy 4th, gina!

  11. Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete on July 2, 2010 at 9:25 am

It sucks when they leave, but I love when they come back! It’s always another “honeymoon” for us. 😉

Super cute skirts! No doubt, I will be at the mall soon to get some. I forgot to pull any shorts or skirts before the movers came to get all of our stuff for our PCS. I won’t see any of my summer clothes for another 2 months.

  12. maxinthegym on July 2, 2010 at 9:38 am

I love love love the floral high waist skirt trend right now! I have so many it’s ridiculous!

  13. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on July 2, 2010 at 9:40 am

I have a bunch of floral skirts from a couple years ago. They are longer though–perhaps I can hem them down to something cute like these!

Have a great time in Orlando with the hubbers.

  14. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on July 2, 2010 at 9:40 am

Chocolate cherry oats! Will definitely be trying this one soon.

I always enjoy your posts from Orlando since I visit there so much and recognize the sites (although not the oven yoga! Completely unfamiliar with that one 🙂 )

  15. Liz on July 2, 2010 at 9:45 am

I LOVE floral skirts! I got one at the tail end of winter that works with bare legs and tights. I absolutely love it. I loved the price even more, though. I hit up a HUGE sale at Macy’s and got it for $5 😀

  16. Jessica @ How Sweet on July 2, 2010 at 10:03 am

  18. Serena on July 2, 2010 at 10:13 am

Cute skirts! They’re very summery. I love floral patterns right now, but I’m into a more subtle…like beige-y thing…and faded patterns 🙂

  19. jenna on July 2, 2010 at 10:19 am

love your outfit! floral dresses are fun but i don’t pull them off too well…
mmmm choc. cherry overnight oats look great!!

  21. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 2, 2010 at 10:20 am

I love that blue and black skirt. It’s adorable! I much prefer skirts to shorts in the summer.

So glad you and the pilot got some good catch-up time last night.

  22. breakingsilence @ Freshman -15 on July 2, 2010 at 10:21 am

Love the skirts!! So cute! Why did I not see any when I was at the mall yesterday? Boo. I bought a really cute distressed denim skirt @ New York and Co. the other day, and it was the last one in my size. (Guess it’s popular!)

  23. Lindsey @ Foodie on the Rocks on July 2, 2010 at 10:31 am

skirts/dresses with pockets are amazing. loving that forever 21 one for that reason alone!

  24. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 2, 2010 at 10:32 am

those skirts are adorable! i need to find some this summer from forever 21…i want more dressy things, but never remember til it’s too late!

  25. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on July 2, 2010 at 10:32 am

That cocktail looks amaaazing! Glad you had such a fun date night! 🙂 I wear skirts all the time bc I can never find non-workout shorts that fit me well – I usually wear my skirts high-waisted with v-neck shirts tucked in, very flattering!

  26. Angela on July 2, 2010 at 10:45 am

You look so pretty! I know you featured the skirts, which are super cute, but I’m really loving those shoes!

I think the addition of basil to any cocktail takes it from ordinary to awesome. It makes it really refreshing and takes the edge off the alcohol.

    Have fun this weekend!

  27. Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) on July 2, 2010 at 10:48 am

Basil and orange cocktail? That’s sounds so summery delish!

And the skirt looks really cute on you… short skirts make me nervous though… do they ever fly up on you?

  28. Evelyn @ cheers2healthy on July 2, 2010 at 10:48 am

I’m all about the floral skirts too! I guess it’s a bit more spring than summer but it just makes you FEEL instantly good!

  29. andrea on July 2, 2010 at 10:55 am

Cute outfit, I’m going to have to invest in one of those skirts.

  30. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on July 2, 2010 at 11:01 am

I’ve been trying those floral skirts but non of them look good on me!

  31. highonhealthy on July 2, 2010 at 11:19 am

I’m loving the floral skirts too! Somehow I STILL don’t have one in my closet though..but I do have a whimsical heart one. Does that count? I guess this just means I need to go shopping.. shame. 😉

  32. Michelle on July 2, 2010 at 11:26 am

Ooh, is Fashion Friday going to be a regular thing now? Love it!

I also love skirts! Every summer I make the vow to wear more skirts, they’re so fun, and more flattering than shorts!

  33. Laury @ thefitnessriot on July 2, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I definitely can’t pull of the floral skirts like you!! Fashion Friday is a great idea!!

ta admit thought, that portobella shroom with the goat cheese got my attention even more than the clothes 😉

OMG! I’ve been following your blog for a couple of weeks. I found it on Fitness Magazines top choices for blogs. I love the recipes and workouts. Anyway, I was reading your post for today and realized that I know the Two Friends Cafe that you are talking about! I know Chef Randy too! They are in my hometown!!!!! It’s such a small world. Are you guys stationed at Moody? Anyway, I thought that was so ironic!

    • Fitnessista on July 2, 2010 at 7:38 pm

yes, we’re stationed at moody! what a small world 🙂

      • Leah Michelle on July 2, 2010 at 9:24 pm

That’s awesome! I hope you & pilot are enjoying Valdosta. I know it’s a small town, but it’s really a special place. Where are you a personal trainer at? I just can’t get over the fact that you are in Valdosta! That’s sooooo cool! I really enjoy your blog. Keep up the good work. Hope you have a great 4th of July!!!

  41. Tina on July 2, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I wish I had money to go shopping for cute clothes like that! I love the new skirts and so many things that are popular right now. As always you look gorgeous!

Glad you are able to enjoy more time with your pilot again. I couldn’t imagine having such a short amount of time with my man for that long.

  42. Sara on July 2, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Definitely liking fashion fridays! Cute outfit!

  43. Mo on July 2, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Totally off topic . . . did you say they were looking into the alcohol content of Kombucha? For some reason, I can’t find it anymore – not at any of my “go to” stores. I’m bummed if that’s the reason, cause I just fell in love with it! Are you having any problems finding it?

    • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 2, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Yes, it’s been pulled from store shelves b/c of higher than reported alcohol content. The FDA has gotten involved. As if we they are the food safety police, but I digress…

I am making my own right now. It’s easy and fun and will save you so much $$

  44. Alycia @ Fit n Fresh on July 2, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Yay!! Happy he’s home and it looks like you have a fun weekend planned – can’t wait for some pics.

Hey Gina I just wanted to drop a comment to let you know I kind of know how hard it is to see you man only every so often. Mine is in the army as well, as a sergeant in the Danish army, whereas I live in Holland, so we only see each other a few days here and there as well. It’s great that he has vacation now so he can spend two weeks here.

Also- I made the protein pancakes this morning and they were really super amazing, mah man liked ’em too ;). keep up the great bloggin job and take a looksy at mine too if you have the time.

    xx sabine
