Dough is Gonna Roll

Hi friends 🙂 Happy Monday! How’s your day going??

I’m a little late posting today because I had to hit up the post office and wanted to catch an am yoga class 🙂 It was soooooo good. Some of my work friends were there and I love practicing with them 🙂

Post yoga, I dug into a brand new jar of almond butter.

orlando 002

(Is it just me, or does it taste the best when you’ve just opened and stirred the jar?)

+ Smoothie in a Bowl

smoothie

a Chocolate Cherry Bomb made with almond milk + spirulina, topped with oats and cacao nibs

I used to think smoothie in a bowl was lame until I learned how amazing it can be when you beef it up with toppings 😉

So as I’m sure you guys have figured out, I’ve been working a lot lately. Like, a LOT a lot. 40 hours at the new job + blogging full time + writing a book proposal + dog wrangling and working out is no joke.

I felt like I was trying to give 100% to everything and then realized that it’s not possible.. especially when I was going from my usual 8-9 hours of sleep to 4. The blog is my baby and is what I truly love, so I talked to my friends at work about cutting my hours and they were beyond cool about it 🙂

For those of you who were wondering, I work at lululemon….

me and ash

(with some very good bloggy friends and real-life friends)

and I’m kind of in love with it. 🙂

Things on the bloggy are gonna go back to how they used to be… less frantic “here’s what I did today, here’s some food, have a great day”, more recipes, workout tips and how-tos, playlists, shenanigans (because I won’t be at work all the time, I’ll be able to do other things), and I’m really excited about it.

I also can’t wait to get my hands dirty with some new recipes 😉

012

Any requests? If I pick yours, I’ll send some to you 🙂

Well I’m off to do the grocery and laundry thang. Hope you have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

Ginaaaa!! I had a feeling it was lulu!! So happy for you, and as far as I’m concerned, more bloggy time is awesome (I’m so selfish!)

I’d love to see your version of a vegan spicy Mexican cookie ooooo-or MAYBE a spicy Mexican macaroon??????

I also love seeing lunch ideas/recipes for the “brown bag it” lunchers. I feel like I always run out of ideas.

Thanks, Gina! You are the best!

Sounds like a fun job! I think it’s great that you can cut back a bit so you have time for other stuff, too!

I think you should make a Pumpkin Spice Macaroon!!

  9. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on October 18, 2010 at 12:46 pm

That’s great that cutting hours will give you a bit more time to really work on the blog! I wish my schooling wasn’t so intense and I could do that. Working at Lululemon must be so much fun. I’m really glad you’re happy 🙂

  10. Tracey on October 18, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Congrats, Gina! I can feel your enthusiasm coming through the blog…that’s awesome! Since it’s fall and Thanksgiving is coming up, how about a really great pumpkin bread recipe…or a healthy sweet potato casserole?

  11. Leanne @ Simplicitlee on October 18, 2010 at 12:49 pm

You’re very fortunate to have employers who are cool with your requests! That’s awesome, it can be hard to find balance in life but it’s so important to do so!

Gina, I will support you and check out your blog no matter what you do, but I am happy to hear that you will be going back to doing your thang on the bloggie! Love ya!

As far as recieps, how about some raw peanut butter cocoa balls or a vegan caramel apple pie, oh or raw brownie bites with some buttery vanilla frosting?

  14. Michelle C on October 18, 2010 at 12:50 pm

I am very jealous you work at Lulu! I’m beyond obsessed. Sometimes I contemplate wearing my running crops around when i’m not running. They’re that comfortable! I’d probably spend my whole paycheck there. 🙂

I know it’s probably not that chilly in FL, but up here in Boston it’s getting very cold! I’d love to see and sort of fall soup/stew recipe without pumpkin. (the blog world is crazy for pumpkin and i’m the only one who doesn’t like it! 🙂 Also love to see any breads or new baked goods. I’ve been DYING for a good oatmeal chocolate chip cookie!

  15. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on October 18, 2010 at 12:52 pm

I would LOVE to work at lulu!

I think you should make Lemon Meringue Pie!! My hubby to be has been requesting a good version for awhile… maybe a vegan version?

mexican wedding cookies! pretty please?? 😉

  17. Erin W. on October 18, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Can’t wait to see you try out some new recipes. How about raw pumpkin cheesecake? Or pumpkin macaroons? I’m excited for fall recipes if you can’t tell. 🙂

P.S. I’m still dying for your recipe for the ‘Almond Butter Crunch Moonie Pie’. Please share with us – pretty, pretty please…

i can totally veganize this– let’s have a picnic this week and i’ll make it 🙂

  19. Bee on October 18, 2010 at 1:05 pm

I knew it was Lululemon! In fact, I was hitting the Orlando site over the weekend to see if it said that you were teaching Zumba there — will you be? They have zumba classes at my local store (Santana Row), though I’ve never participated, sadly. Too busy with kids on the weekend!

  20. Shannon on October 18, 2010 at 1:11 pm

I have a request for a future blog perhaps…For the past 5 or so years, I worked from home. Only in the last two did I start working out regularly (4-5 days a week) and eating really well. I lost a lot of weight and feel better than ever. I’m actually back to my college weight!! About 3 months ago, I got a full-time job in an office that I LOVE, but I am realllly having trouble getting myself to the gym as much as I was when I worked from home. When I get home from work, I am so tired that I am having a hard time making myself still go to the gym. Lately I’ve been down to about 2 days of cardio and 1 yoga dvd per week…that’s just not enough…
I love the feeling I get after working out, but I do not love working out the way you do…Do you have any tips at all to motivate myself so I keep going to the gym as much as I was? I don’t want to gain any of the weight back, but I get so lazy once I get home…help!

  21. Michelle on October 18, 2010 at 1:12 pm

How about you veganize some of those cookie concoctions from The Cravory since I think I just gained about 10 pounds over the weekend indulging in almost every flavor 😉

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 1:14 pm

LOL. i’m so glad you liked them!! that’s a great idea 🙂

  22. Jennie on October 18, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I totally guessed that! No idea how I knew though. 🙂 Sounds like such a fun job, but I’m glad you are getting to spend more time on what you love! Also can’t wait for bridal boot camp. I’ll just rename it “newlywed bootcamp” for my own purposes lol.

  23. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on October 18, 2010 at 1:25 pm

I totally agree that the first stir of the nut butter jar is the best! That’s great that Lulu were understanding (just goes to show how even MORE awesome they are!) I can’t wait to see your new recipes. 😀

  24. Donna Porter on October 18, 2010 at 1:30 pm

I would love more ways to beef up my boring ol’ oatmeal! I use the usual almond butter and toppings..but I want to do something different with it. The other day I found a recipe online that used oatmeal to wrap banana pieces and bake..it was awesome!!

  25. Natalie on October 18, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I have been trying to come up with Thanksgiving cookies like pumpkin pie cookies or pumpkin cheesecake cookies, but they have not turned out well. Need some Gina expertise. 🙂

I’m glad you reset your priorities to make you happy and fit what you want out of life!

  27. Jenny on October 18, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Glad to see you easing up–hard to do, but it sure makes a difference being able to give more to the things that mean the most! If you can make a raw carrot cake (or cookie), I will buy the recipe!! I have been trying different one without success.

  28. Becca on October 18, 2010 at 1:47 pm

okay, so with the food blog contest going on, and pizza being the subject, it got me wanting to see if someone would come up with a vegan twist on a dessert pizza….yummers!

I vote pumpkin bread for a makeover 🙂

That’s great you’ll be cutting back – busy-ness is great, but only soooo much you can handle, ya know?!

is it possible to make a healthy pop tart? my boyfriend (who is generally a healthy eater) has been craving them lately and yesterday i caught him staring longingly at the pop tart section of the supermarket. i talked him out of it because the ingredient list is terrifying–any ideas about how to make a healthy version?

  34. Allison @ Food for Healing on October 18, 2010 at 2:08 pm

hehe lulu, thats cool! thats awesome that you were able to cut your hours, things can get very hectic working 40 hours a week, I know i struggle every day, working 40hours a week and trying to do school work in the extra time i have, its tough.

gotta make a recipe that involves pumpkin, it is Fall afterall.

  35. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on October 18, 2010 at 2:12 pm

    Hi Gina,

It is always hard to find balance in our lives; glad you are facing this issue head-on in your life! Should inspire us to try and do the same.

I have been interested in foam rolling, so I bought a roller this weekend and gave it a try yesterday. It felt really good yesterday, but am sore today! Is this pretty typical? I assume the more I do it the more my body will get used to the release it provides.

In terms of vegan cooking, I do not eat exclusively vegan (nor vegetarian for that matter), but would love a new take on spaghetti squash. I just bought one last week and need to figure out what to do with it!

    Thanks Gina!

    Sara

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 3:24 pm

you’ll get used to it and it wont make you so sore! take it easy for a while with the roller until you’re most used to it

  38. Heather on October 18, 2010 at 2:16 pm

    Hey Gina!

I’m super proud of you for cutting back your hours. You listened to your mind…and your body will totally thank you for that! [:

What are you doing for work at lululemon? That sounds so fab.

As far as recipes go, I know that pumpkin is whored all over the blog world but I would LOVE to see a pumpkin recipe.

  39. lindsey on October 18, 2010 at 2:22 pm

    omg. beyond jealous about lululemon!

  40. jen on October 18, 2010 at 2:27 pm

So great to hear, and what a treat for the rest of us. I would really love to see some new workouts on the blog, especially a killer abs routine! Thanks!

  41. Jos on October 18, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I’m a quiet reader and I’d say it’s so cool you work at Lululemon..can you get me discounts of their workout attire? 😀

  45. Jen on October 18, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Good for you and speaking up for yourself when you needed some more time for yourself!

As far as requests, I would love to see something on how to deal with an injury! I sprained my ankle badly three months ago, and while it feels a lot better, there is a lot of stuff that I still can’t do. For example, it’s not strong enough to support wearing high heels (after 3 months?!). Right now I’m doing P90X and modifying exercises, especially the plyometrics. It’s driving me crazy that I’m missing the fall running season. If you were interested in suggesting some workouts (particularly cardio!) as well as any tips for dealing with the general malaise that comes from dealing with an injury this long, it would be soooo appreciated!

  46. Katie on October 18, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Yay yay yay this post made me so happy! I’m so glad things are going well for you, Gina, and you have the schedule you want and are surrounded by positive, happy people!

Oh my last comment just got munched…darn…

So happy that you’re cutting back on the lulu job and going to be doing more blogging since you WANT to be doing that and that’s what’s gonna make you happier. So important to honor what we want to do and make changes to life when ever possible to facilitate that!

I am currently working 5 days a week, being a fulltime mother and wife, trying to run my household, and trying to blog…and yes the only way that happens is with 4-5 hrs of sleep per night and for me, my blog should be the first thing I cut back on as the other things are non-negotiable, but it’s hard, when it’s your “baby”. But I have a baby named Skylar 🙂

Glad you have figured it out and have a solution!!!!!

    🙂

    Pumpkin bars! Tis the season…

  49. bobbileigh on October 18, 2010 at 2:54 pm

I had a guess that might be where you were working. Glad to hear you are finding a work/life balance. Even though the blogs have been more sporatic I have enjoyed seeing what you are packing and planning for lunches. Being someone who works 50+ hours a week it can be hard to eat healthy and fulfilling meals. I am very excited for the bridal bootcamp (getting married 04.08.11) and will beyond ecstatic if most of the moves can be done in my apartment with some running outside. 🙂

  50. breakingsilence @ Freshman -15 on October 18, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Wow, my sweet tooth is on overdrive today…
