Dough is Gonna Roll

Hi friends 🙂 Happy Monday! How’s your day going??

I’m a little late posting today because I had to hit up the post office and wanted to catch an am yoga class 🙂 It was soooooo good. Some of my work friends were there and I love practicing with them 🙂

Post yoga, I dug into a brand new jar of almond butter.

orlando 002

(Is it just me, or does it taste the best when you’ve just opened and stirred the jar?)

+ Smoothie in a Bowl

smoothie

a Chocolate Cherry Bomb made with almond milk + spirulina, topped with oats and cacao nibs

I used to think smoothie in a bowl was lame until I learned how amazing it can be when you beef it up with toppings 😉

So as I’m sure you guys have figured out, I’ve been working a lot lately. Like, a LOT a lot. 40 hours at the new job + blogging full time + writing a book proposal + dog wrangling and working out is no joke.

I felt like I was trying to give 100% to everything and then realized that it’s not possible.. especially when I was going from my usual 8-9 hours of sleep to 4. The blog is my baby and is what I truly love, so I talked to my friends at work about cutting my hours and they were beyond cool about it 🙂

For those of you who were wondering, I work at lululemon….

me and ash

(with some very good bloggy friends and real-life friends)

and I’m kind of in love with it. 🙂

Things on the bloggy are gonna go back to how they used to be… less frantic “here’s what I did today, here’s some food, have a great day”, more recipes, workout tips and how-tos, playlists, shenanigans (because I won’t be at work all the time, I’ll be able to do other things), and I’m really excited about it.

I also can’t wait to get my hands dirty with some new recipes 😉

012

Any requests? If I pick yours, I’ll send some to you 🙂

Well I’m off to do the grocery and laundry thang. Hope you have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

I was in Chicago this weekend and got to eat at Raw for the first time. They had amazing tiramisu cake and lemon bars. If you can make either of those, I’d love a recipe (and a test batch)!

  2. Sana on October 18, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Yep! It’s so hard to blog when you are out and about all day!
I am glad you are taking care of your baby. That is till when you and the pilot make on :)! Please blog even when you are preggo.
    That is all 🙂

      haha! i will 😉

  3. Kristy on October 18, 2010 at 3:05 pm

    Ahh lulu discount! Lucky!

I would love a post about how to start up at yoga. I find it very intimidating, and I would love to reap the benefits but have no idea how to begin!

DVDs? Walk into a class? Podcasts? So many choices but not sure which would be best!
    Thanks!

    • QueenofFitness on October 18, 2010 at 5:23 pm

      hi kristy

sorry had to comment…definitely go to a class!! going to a class and doing it with a real live person who walks around and corrects your form is so much more intense than trying to do a video and craning your neck to see the t.v. i have been taking pilates with a live instructor and let me tell you it is MUCH more different. the whole time she walks around and corrects form and just as i am finally getting the hang of the moves and stop feeling uncoordinated, class is over. there is such a difference between replicating moves from a vid and being in a class. have fun! i am a cardio queen but am trying to incorporate more yoga and pilates into my regimen as of late.

I’ve been a reader for years now and I absolutely love your blog! Something I’d like to see: how to feed a MAN a nutritious and filling vegetarian dinner. I always make dinner for my boyfriend and I, and we have been cutting out meat recently for health’s sake. The problem is, he is hungry almost immediately after dinner (and I am too a few hours later). I try to cover the bases of veg, protein, carbs, but I can’t figure out how to make a meal that will not leave us hungry. We eat out a lot on the weekends, and I’d like to keep our meat consumption to where someone else is preparing it! (raw meat is gross). Any ideas?

  5. Jess on October 18, 2010 at 3:29 pm

it’s definitely not just you! almond butter is always best upon opening:)

  6. Mi-An Dela Cruz on October 18, 2010 at 3:31 pm

    Pumpkin Nutella Bread!!!

Good for you for cutting back the hours. Sometimes we gotta do that to be able to enjoy all the other things we do enjoy! I only work 3 days this week and instead of complaining how little my next paycheck will be, I will be able to fit in lots of yoga and running this week PLUS seeing my 6 week old nephew!!! So in the end, it’s not all about the dough! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 3:35 pm

      so very true!
can you believe i’ve never had nutella?

  7. Amisha on October 18, 2010 at 3:33 pm

How about a vegan or raw coconut cream pie? I am obsessed with coconut. Maybe a vegan snickers bar for the upcoming Halloween holiday!

  8. jessie on October 18, 2010 at 3:36 pm

i would like a fitnessista mole sauce recipe! i’ve tried a bunch of recipes and can’t get it right.

    p.s. you’re the best!

  9. Abbie on October 18, 2010 at 3:36 pm

I love to make sugar cookies for the upcoming holidays, and decorate them with my kids. I would love it if you could come up with a healthier, vegan sugar cookie!!! Please!! 🙂

  10. Holly on October 18, 2010 at 3:39 pm

So jealous you are a lulu girl! I can only imagine what a fabulous discount you must get! I am an R&D and am excited to get my share. Lulu clothes are THE best workout clothes and probably the only ones I wear.
As for the recipe I would love to see the macroon recipe 😉 If you ever tell!!! Congrats on the cutback of hours!

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 3:43 pm

i was r&d before i started working there- i love that they offer it!
as for the macaroon recipe, it’s under wraps foreverrrrrrr 😉 buahah

  11. Melissa on October 18, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I really wanna come up with a great recipe for oatmeal sweet potato maple syrup cookies! Any chance you’d wanna try making them too? 🙂

  12. Shelby on October 18, 2010 at 3:49 pm

I think I’m the opposite. I love AB at the end of the jar because it’s all crumbly and you can pour oatmeal into it (:

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 3:55 pm

that’s very true, i forgot about the end of the jar ab….

  13. Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) on October 18, 2010 at 3:51 pm

YAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYA! 😀 😀 I’m excited G!! Really looking forward to more of your recipes and work out tips bc you RULE! I really, really enjoyed that full body, at home work out. Been throwing it in the mix about once a week and am still loving it. I would not be sad if you posted more things like that ;D

PS I, now, heart lulu. OMG. The best workout clothes ever invented… I only wish each item came with a money tree ;P

  14. jenna on October 18, 2010 at 4:05 pm

you are very lucky to have that option! I’m excited to see more healthy recipes and work out motivation!

  15. katelyn on October 18, 2010 at 4:06 pm

PUMPKIN PIE!!!!!! I don’t care what you do with it- vegan, add flavors, ginafy or otherwise… I know it will be amazing

I am excited to see what bridal bootcamp is about! I am getting married and want to get a head start on my fittness. 🙂

  18. Bianca @ Confessions of a Chocoholic on October 18, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I love Lululemon – it must be awesome to work there. I’d like to see some recipes that I can use for potlucks at the office! I commute to work so whenever we have potluck parties, it’s challenging to come up with something portable and doesn’t require re-heating (and healthy, of course). I was thinking of doing your stuffed mushrooms for our upcoming potluck but it has to be Halloween theme or Fall theme so I’m not sure how to mix it up. Any recipe ideas would be great 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 4:50 pm

what about sweet potato and black bean chili?? it’s on my slow cooker page and you just take the slow cooker with you

  19. Eileen on October 18, 2010 at 4:50 pm

So smart of you to not try and do it all. Keep what you love first and you will always be satisfied. So glad you are loving all your jobs!

  20. Amy on October 18, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I knew it had to be lululemon! I noticed you suddenly seemed to be wearing a lot of their clothes in your posts!

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 6:56 pm

haha i knew someone would notice that 😉 i went from having no lulu clothes to an entire wardrobe pretty fast

  21. Laughter-Loving Stacy on October 18, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Fun! Well, congrats on having more time. 🙂

  22. Paige @Running Around Normal on October 18, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I figured it was Lulu 🙂 Glad they let you cut your hours back! It must have been exhausting going from you previous schedule to this one. Yay for more blog and book proposal time 🙂

  23. Shauna on October 18, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Jealous about lululemon discounts. My fave thing about new almond butter is digging down to that really solid stuff before you stir the jar. That’s the best. Isn’t it funny how we all have such specific preferences about how the same food should be?

  24. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on October 18, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Excited for more recipes!! Maybe some slow cooker and/or soup recipes!

  25. Neena on October 18, 2010 at 5:28 pm

Hmm. I’d really like to make some tamales and I happen to know you have some recipes. 🙂 I’m jealous of your job at Lulu!!

    Vegan Samoas!

  27. Nikki on October 18, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Can you make something with rhubarb? It’s a fall and all anybody ever asks for is pumpkin. How about a rhubarb cobbler?

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 6:55 pm

      yum i love rhubarb!

  28. elaine on October 18, 2010 at 5:48 pm

It’s pretty darn inspirational seeing all the things you have on your plate right now! Makes me want to be more adventurous, but also like you make time for the things that are really important and close to my heart! My requests are:

    french macarons
spinach tamales (the ones I have at Hugo’s in LA have the spinach blended right into the masa)
    cheesecake using goat cheese

  29. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on October 18, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Oooh, I love lululemon!! I bet you get killer deals since you work there. Looking forward to some more recipes from you!!

  30. Nicole on October 18, 2010 at 6:11 pm

    LENTIL LOAF. Prettty please 🙂

And good on you, taking a step back not only for your baby, but for yourself! xo

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 6:55 pm

whoo hoo! i bought lentils today with no plan for them 🙂 sounds perfect!

  31. tara on October 18, 2010 at 6:18 pm

mexican hot chocolate macaroons or chocolate cherry amaretto macaroons would be amazing.. or a healthy version of welsh cakes. If you’ve never had them, they basically taste like a cross between a biscuit and a scone with raisins. So good!

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 6:55 pm

i’ve never had a welsh cake but that sounds wonderful!!

  32. Rebecca on October 18, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Good for you for assessing your priorities and doing what you need to do! I’m really happy that the blog’s not going anywhere. I kind of love it :).
Question–I’m still trying to lose those last few pounds (and my focus has recently changed from the gym to yoga. I’m been doing yoga for a few years and have started working at a studio (hot vinyasa) and I get to take the amazing classes for free. I’m going everyday and LOVE it. BUT..should I get my butt back to the gym?
Yoga has crazy amazing benefits, and I feel so alive and I notice that I eat better when I do yoga versus the gym which makes me ravenous. Also, with yoga as my primary focus I’ve stopped calorie counting!! And I don’t feel guilty about eating certain foods because it’s all intuitive eating. Anyway–long story short–is it okay to stick to just yoga?

    • Fitnessista on October 18, 2010 at 6:54 pm

      thank you!! <3
totally fine to stick with yoga, but i'd add in some cardio and weights at least once a week. you need the muscle overload and constant cardio that yoga doesn't provide. i totally know what you mean about eating better when you do yoga- i'm the same way!

  33. Angie (Losing It and Loving It) on October 18, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Sounds like a good plan to cut back.

As for what I would love for you to make? ANYTHING with peanut/Almond butter. Really my dream is to make my own Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups but I have not a clue how nor do I want to have to buy tons of specialty stuff to make it happen.

Loved the foam roller video from the other day. Hubby uses mine all the time. Now we have more stretches we can do, thank you!

  34. caroline on October 18, 2010 at 6:34 pm

So jealous about your Lululemon job! You must be loving it!

I actually love when you post what you take to work for lunch. You should do some posts on some creative packable lunches! I’m bored of always packing sandwiches to take to campus. 😛

  39. Holly on October 18, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Aww, Gina, I’m SO happy for you 😀 I’m so glad that your job was able to understand your true calling- like with your writing.
I can’t wait until your book is ready!! 🙂

  40. Mary @ Bites and Bliss on October 18, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Whooa, I’d love to have your job!! Only if there was some sort of discount, though..otherwise it’d be really hard being around so many incredible clothes and not be able to buy any. 😛

  41. kirsten on October 18, 2010 at 9:15 pm

i thought it might be lulu! i am jealous!! 😀

  42. Brooke on October 18, 2010 at 9:44 pm

What an amazing job! I would love to work somewhere that seems to truly want to impart a positive message on its customers. As for a recipe I think I vegan Snickerdoodle would be incredible! It remind me of childhood and has such a distinct taste. Yum!

  44. Lian on October 18, 2010 at 10:31 pm

    wow lululemon ? that’s awesome ! 😀
+ super glad to hear you’ll be able to blog more again !!

i’ve seen so many pumpkin creations in the blog world as of late, but i especially love a baked pumpkin recipe, like a cake or cookie–rather than pumpkin oats or smoothies (as much as i <3 those !)

  45. jackie on October 18, 2010 at 10:51 pm

hey gina! i have a request for you… can you create a recipe using Peanut Flour? I feel like lots of bloggers have been hyping it up the past few weeks (I think oyu get it at Trader Joe’s and I also think that PB2 is supposed to be similar. THanks!!

    • Fitnessista on October 19, 2010 at 9:11 am

i’ve never tried peanut flour! i know mama pea has some recipes with it, but honestly, once i went almond i never went back 😉

  46. Lindsey @ SoundEats on October 18, 2010 at 11:47 pm

yay lulu twin, for the cat being out of the bag. 😉 Now that it is, I’ll leave the comment I wanted to leave the other day – let’s exchange window pics! I want to see y’alls breast cancer awareness month window. Ours is all ta-ta’d up at the moment, too 🙂

anyway, I’m thinking, now that you won’t be AS crazy, that you should take day trips to get away and spend some solitude with the book proposal. I hear there’s a certain Barnes & Noble in a certain Town Center next to a certain friend with a certain guest room with your name all over it, that sounds like it’d be a great place to get some proposal work done. 😉

    Just sayin’ 😀

    • Fitnessista on October 19, 2010 at 9:10 am

      lulu twin!
that sounds like an amazing idea!!! i’ll let you know when i’m off next week 🙂

I’d love to see a Thanksgiving meal post with recipes. Foods that would be appropriate for meat/dairy eaters and non. Id love to see a post with things like a grocery list and a timeline for food prep. You made some yummy looking things last year!

  48. Ashleigh on October 19, 2010 at 9:33 am

I knew you worked at lulu! Since I spend between 10 and 15 percent of my paychecks there, I spotted a few of my favorite items lurking in your pics (hello….best “classy” gym bag ever!). Anyway, I realize I’m commenting late, as you’ve already posted again, but please please please experiment with a vegan cornbread recipe like the one whole foods makes. It is the best cornbread in the entire world; which is why I’m willing to pay $4.99/lb (or whatever the crazy price is). I have tried several times to make my own, but it never turns out as moist and sweet as the real deal. It lists the ingredients on the bakery label, and I’ve used the same ingredients (tofu?!?!?), but mine turns out more “cakey” and “savory” than whole foods’s super secret recipe. Good luck with lulu, Orlando, the puppers and the bloggy!

  49. Molly on October 19, 2010 at 11:26 am

Good for you! My parents are both lawyers and work 60 hours/week and that’s totally their personality and mine, but if it’s not your personality I’ve seen it really mess with people.

    • Fitnessista on October 19, 2010 at 11:58 am

i was working more like 80 hours a week… 60 is much more manageable

  50. Tami Jo Eaton on October 19, 2010 at 2:04 pm

I would also like to see how to get started with yoga. The studios around me are rather far away, so how to set something up at home would also be good. I would really love for you to make something like a vegan pumpkin blondie, but with a macaroon type crust/topping. You could either make them bars or little round ones rolled in a macaroon crust. Yum!
