House in Disguise

Hi friends 😀 Happy Sunday to ya <3 Hope you’ve had an amazing weekend. It seems like the blog is back and running for good, and the new design will be up TOMORROW! Can’t wait to show you guys.

It hasn’t exactly been a day of rest over here, but a very, very… very good day 🙂

me and bell3

(didn’t chop my hair off- my layers are just sticking out funny)

We started the day by moving a ton of furniture! I bought 16 pieces from an estate sale, and we had to pick everything up today and lug it into the townhouse. Things have been very bare in here since I moved in, because our furniture is in the POD and I’ve been using loaners from the family (like the futon we broke and captured it on video).

We’re finally starting to pick things up for our new house, since we’ll have more rooms to furnish. It’s definitely exciting 🙂

Here are some of the pieces I picked up – most are for the guest rooms:

furniture

The antique Mexican style will look really cool with our warm color scheme.

ottoman

(Ottoman with two stools)

dresser

drawers

After moving furniture around –this little funny place actually looks more home-ish!- I got ready quickly and headed to my friend Michele’s bridal shower.

I was greeted with a vegetarian salad 🙂

***these are all iPhone photos—I was playing “sneaky blogger”

salad

On the tables, they had cookies from the Cravory. I was SO excited to finally try them, since I did a giveaway last year for these incredible treats.

Marisa and I split a cinnamon crunch cookie (holy foodgasm.. pieces of cinnamon toast crunch cereal in the cookies!), and a chocolate chip (so doughy and perfect).

cookies

(I took the red velvet and birthday cake ones home to save for the Pilot)

For dessert, they served cheesecake with berries.

cheesecake

I have to be in the mood for cheesecake (chocolate > cheesecake), but ended up eating about half of the filling part and most of the berries. It was pretty good 🙂

The shower was BEAUTIFUL, but it made me sad that Michele is going back to Georgia. I’ll miss her, but her family is here too, so I’m glad she and her husband will visit often.

Well I’m off to take Bella for a walk and then plan out this week’s meals, grocery shop and hit up Beefcake and Noble. Maybe Bed, Bath and Beyond if there’s time 😉

Enjoy your night and I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What kind of wedding cake did you have? If you’re not married yet, what flavor would you choose? We had mini cakes in multiple flavors, but they were all covered in chocolate ganache 🙂

As long as I have a champagne fountain, I won’t care about my cake….

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 6:47 pm

      thatta girl 🙂 haha

buying new stuff for the house is so exciting!
i went to a bridal shower yesterday, it was fun.
I am not married, and i honestly dont know what kind of cake we could have! haven’t thought about it since its not really in the horizon

  3. Emily on May 1, 2011 at 6:31 pm

I really like the furniture you’ve gotten! I am a big fan of the antique Mexican/ Arizona/ Tucson style.

I’m not married, but I probably would go for a lemon cake with fresh berries some how incorporated… great, now I want cake 😉

    Enjoy your evening!

  4. Whitney on May 1, 2011 at 6:32 pm

We had one layer of cake and then rows of cupcakes. The cake was red velvet and the cupcakes were a bunch of different kinds, my favorite being the smores flavor. They were delicious!!!

  5. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 1, 2011 at 6:32 pm

The furniture looks great, and the desserts from the shower sound amazing! I’m not married yet, but I really like your idea of having different flavoured small cakes. I’m a huuuuuge caramel/butterscotch fan, but I also love french vanilla. I think a bunch of mini cakes is a great way to go. 🙂

  6. Tracey on May 1, 2011 at 6:35 pm

I fell in love with strawberry cake iced with buttercream years ago when I was cake tasting for my wedding. Luckily I never married that boy…but that was almost 10 years ago and I’m still waiting to have my big slice. Someday! 😀

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 6:46 pm

it will taste even better 🙂

  7. Elena @ GagaForGrapefruit on May 1, 2011 at 6:38 pm

First off, your wedding picture is ADORABLE! My favorite is chocolate chocolate chocolate, so I doubt i’ll be able to choose anything else for my wedding one day :\ The boyf wants red velvet, so I could probably compromise 😉 Can’t wait to see the new blog!!

  8. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty on May 1, 2011 at 6:39 pm

Wow, that furniture is gorgeous!! LOVE it.

Our wedding cake was vanilla and mocha I think? I don’t remember because I couldn’t eat it (destination wedding + food allergies don’t work so well). But I ordered one of Kris from I heart Wellness cookies and brought that with me to have at our reception!! It was great because the hubby couldn’t squish anything in my face! ha 🙂

  9. alison on May 1, 2011 at 6:39 pm

    Hooray for some new furniture!
I didn’t have a wedding. It was a let’s-get-married-five-days-before-husband-goes-to-Korea kind of thing. We got married in my mother-in-law’s living room and she chose the cake. It was just a bakery cake from Publix, but unfortunately she got whipped icing, which makes me want to barf. I love my husband very much but after nearly 15 years of marriage, I still find his family’s aversion to buttercream horribly disturbing. I mean, really? Who doesn’t like buttercream? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 6:44 pm

for real. i could swim in it 🙂

  10. Laura @ Backstage Pass on May 1, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Yay for new furniture! I love scoping out craigslist and estate sales to find deals.
I’m not married, but love the idea of mini-cakes. I think it’d be fun to have guests respond for which flavor they’d like, similar to how they choose entrees on the RSVP 🙂
For one big wedding cake… it’d be a toss up between a classic white wedding cake and red velvet. My boyfriend and I love both!

  11. Amy @ Amy Starts To Run on May 1, 2011 at 6:50 pm

We also had mini-cakes or petit fours. They were delicious and came in 4 different flavors.

We also had a TON left over, so a lot of our friends work places got to sample them as well 😀

  12. Holly @ The Runny Egg on May 1, 2011 at 6:51 pm

We had a choc/vanilla marble cake with vanilla frosting. From Sam’s Club. No joke. We had a small wedding and just needed some sort of dessert!

I love those pieces you picked up!!! So much Pier 1 stuff — love that store!

  13. Brie @ Brie Fit on May 1, 2011 at 6:54 pm

We had red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and vanilla cake with strawberry and chocolate mousse in it. We also had cream puffs with ice cream and hot fudge and NY style cheesecake with strawberry sauce.

    Drool.

  14. Jenn on May 1, 2011 at 7:01 pm

I think I want to have a bunch of cupcakes (so there can be a ton of different flavors) and then a smaller cake that we can cut. I love anything chocolate and buttercream frosting.

  15. Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews on May 1, 2011 at 7:04 pm

That’s awesome that you got all of that furniture. Was it from one estate sale only?

  16. chelsey @ clean eating chelsey on May 1, 2011 at 7:06 pm

You got ssome beautiful pieces, and I’m guessing they were a steal if they are from an estate sale!

We had two cakes – one was regular with a strawberry filling and the other was a gluten free (for me!)

  17. Dani on May 1, 2011 at 7:06 pm

I have recently started consulting with a naturopath/ holistic Dr regarding digestive issues I have been having. Based on the initial tests they have advised I remove all wheat/gluten and dairy from my diet.
When you are at occasions like bridal showers what do you do? I want to look after myself but don’t want to be frustrating to have as a guest.
Can you do a recap post of your wedding day??

  18. megan @ the oatmeal diaries on May 1, 2011 at 7:12 pm

I like your pretend short hair! Haha I also LOVE that photo of you and the Pilot. I want my wedding cake to be my mom’s homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting!!

  19. Fallon on May 1, 2011 at 7:12 pm

It will be very hard to choose a wedding cake flavor because I like all kinds of flavors and fillings! My boyfriend is a huge cannoli cake fan and the filling is delicious. I wouldn’t mind that for a wedding cake, probably be the easiest decision. Although a chocolate cake with barvarian cream and fresh berries would be delicious too. haha 😉

  20. Jess on May 1, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Love the furniture! Redecorating a new place is so much fun!

I’m going to 7 weddings this year (at last count, that’s what it was, at least), and I have to admit, I’m looking forward to the cake! I have no idea what I’d do at my own wedding—I think a tasting would be mandatory…

  21. Joelle on May 1, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Our wedding planning was a disaster. The 1st thing we had chosen was a beautiful cake for 150ppl. Last minute we decided that we’d only be 12 of us but I decided to keep the cake. It was a 3 tier lemon cake with white chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis. So good!

  22. VeggieGirl on May 1, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Oh my, those cookies look amazing!

My wedding would have chocolate mini cakes for each guest.

  23. Jessica @Fruit and Veggie Tales on May 1, 2011 at 7:30 pm

I love your new furniture! The wall piece is gorgeous! We had red velvet cake for our wedding, buttercream frosting…..of course this was before the whole, vegan/gluten free thing! 😉 I did just get asked to make a gluten free wedding cake for someone though….I’m pretty excited about it!

  24. Clare @ Fitting It All In on May 1, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Love the pieces you found! My parents had a spice cake at their wedding which is something I’ve never heard of before. It’s my dad’s favorite.

  25. Chelsea on May 1, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Awesome furniture and awesome you found it at an Estate Sale! Its like recycling furniture.

  26. Ilana on May 1, 2011 at 7:46 pm

you know the great chocolate waterfall from Willy Wonka? Yeah, I want one of those at my wedding. My guests can stand under the falls and get a chocolate shower.

  27. Jenn on May 1, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Awesome furniture! Our wedding cake was red velvet, since the theme of the day was a red rose garden. One of my mom’s good friends made it, it was covered in rose petals, delicious!

  28. mi-an on May 1, 2011 at 7:49 pm

for my wedding, i would love to have red velvet cake (my fave) and probably chocolate chocolate chocolate cake (my bf LOVES chocolate). :))

  29. Lisa on May 1, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Dark chocolate cake anytime/anyway. I love antiques: how fun!

  30. Kelly on May 1, 2011 at 7:54 pm

For our wedding cake we had vanilla cake with alternating layers of filling between ricotta and chocolate chip and ricotta and raspberry jam.

  31. jen on May 1, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Cravory = PERFECT birthday idea! I wanted to do a chocomize for a friend, but this is even BETTE! Thank you for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Kate on May 1, 2011 at 8:21 pm

I would die to have a champagne or rum cake. Alcohol + cake = amazing!!! 🙂

    Although, IMO pie >>>> cake.

    • Kate on May 1, 2011 at 11:28 pm

Oh, and if some marzipan were to somehow explode ALL OVER THE CAKE I would not be disappointed 😀

  33. Chelsa on May 1, 2011 at 8:24 pm

I really like the new furniture and the cake picture is adorable.

  34. cathy on May 1, 2011 at 8:25 pm

LOVE your furniture, gina, esp the first photo of the wooden cabinet…looks great with that artwork, too! you can really score some unique pieces at super deals at estate sales.
enjoy your evening of errands! will be fun to see the New Blog Reveal tomorrow!

  35. Amanda on May 1, 2011 at 8:37 pm

I really like that wall hanging– it looks so unique!

  36. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on May 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Looks like you had some great finds at that estate sale!! 🙂

  37. Lindsay on May 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm

    Cute furniture! Lucky girl!

  38. jodie on May 1, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Love the piece hanging on your wall. We had a fruit cake but not your typical king the fruit was soaked in rum for 6 months.

    • jodie on May 1, 2011 at 9:11 pm

sorry meant to say “not your typical kind” 🙂

  39. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on May 1, 2011 at 9:15 pm

16 pieces from an estate sale??! NICE SCORE!

Sneaky blogger with the iphone pics, no worried and you do what you gotta do!

“What kind of wedding cake did you have?”– I didnt. We got married in Vegas 10 years ago, it was a $199 package. I wore a hot pink betsey johsnon dress, had a pink plastic ring, a plastic bouquet of flowers, and we went out afterward and partied like rock stars. We didn’t miss the cake 🙂

    • Morgan on May 1, 2011 at 9:28 pm

      Averie-

I’m pretty sure you just described my dream wedding!! I’m not even kidding. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 11:30 pm

and that is another one of the many reasons why you’re awesome

  40. stella shiny yoga* on May 1, 2011 at 9:17 pm

hahah i completely thought you had chopped yr hair off! xo

  41. Morgan on May 1, 2011 at 9:27 pm

I absolutely love the furniture! Did the wall decor in the very first pic come with it or did you buy that somewhere else? I would so love to know where that came from!

I’m not married yet but I would definitely be satisfied with some amazing wedding cheesecake 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 11:30 pm

i bought it a while ago at home goods- they have awesome wall decor

  42. Char on May 1, 2011 at 9:27 pm

We had a two tier cake – bottom was vanilla cake with real strawberry filling; top layer was banana cake with cream cheese filling. Sadly, we only had a teeny bite of the vanilla cake and the rest of the cake was put out to take home on the wedding night…devastated to say the least that I didn’t even get a chance to try the banana one 🙁

  43. tiffany on May 1, 2011 at 9:36 pm

i’m nowhere near getting married, but my sister had chocolate, haupia (coconut), and lilikoi (passion fruit) cupcakes for her guests! (they live in hawaii) plus a small cake on top of the display for cutting. and i hand-made the cake topper for them, which ended up turning out super cute. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 11:29 pm

      that sounds incredible

  44. Rhiannon on May 1, 2011 at 9:40 pm

We had a tiered rice krispy, cocoa crispy, and fruity pebble treat cake! Everyone loved it 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 11:30 pm

      fruity pebble treat?! foodgasm

  45. Brenda@Year25 on May 1, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Our wedding cake was amaretto with raspberry filling and butter cream icing. We had plenty of cake left over and ate it for a week after the wedding. Best cake I’ve ever had!

  46. Christy on May 1, 2011 at 9:48 pm

I always wanted red velvet with cream cheese frosting. But now I’m gluten-free/vegan so I’ll have to be creative if I want to partake in the traditional cake cutting/feeding. Not that I’m getting married any time soon…

  47. Stephanie on May 1, 2011 at 9:55 pm

We had a tiny wedding (as in 6 guests – including us), and my parents surprised with a beautiful tiny 2-tier wedding cake from a local bakery that’s been around for decades. The bottom was chocolate and the top was vanilla. It was perfect!

  48. Krystina (Organically Me) on May 1, 2011 at 9:56 pm

I kind of want a cake made entirely out of various flavors of cupcakes. 😀

  49. rebecca lustig on May 1, 2011 at 10:06 pm

never really been a cake person but i guess i could settle for a vanilla/chocolate ice cream cake… hope it’ll last the whole reception!

  50. Sarah @TheExPat Bride on May 1, 2011 at 10:36 pm

I want a coconut cake with raspberry filling, but everytime I mention that, people give me funny looks :/

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2011 at 11:28 pm

      that sounds glorious to me!
