Ish just got real

cartoon22 Source

Iโ€™ve been back at my momโ€™s house for a little while, but after spending some time laying on the couch curled into a ball and a delicious lunch out with the fam, I can finally post.

Good news on all fronts:

Centimeters dilated: 2

% effaced: 80

Next appointment: Tuesday

Induction scheduled: Friday morning

So no matter what, by this time next week weโ€™ll be about to meet the little lady, and some other reassuring news was that

SHE FLIPPED.

No longer a little egg, baby is in OA- direct occiput anterior- position, which is the ideal position for her to pass through the pelvis. This is such a comfort to know that the things we did (chiropractor, blanket trick, warm bath method, laying on my left side, crawling around on all fours) may have actually helped. Iโ€™m pretty sure I know the night she flipped- it was when I woke up and my belly looked like a cone. Sheโ€™s engaged and ready to go!

Another thing that could possibly help move things along: I had my membranes stripped today.

[donโ€™t read the rest if youโ€™re feeling a little squeamish. Family page sometimes = TMI page]

It sounds terrible, and to be honest, it wasnโ€™t a party.

She went to check me, and I think it made it worse because I was super nervous. After she was all up in my business โ€“she could touch the babyโ€™s head- she said โ€œyou are 2cm and 80% effaced. If you want to move things along, I could strip your membranes.โ€ I told her to go ahead even though I was anxious/nervous/scared, because I know that itโ€™s worked for quite a few friends and would like to avoid induction if we can. So she rubbed around my cervix, 4 times in each direction, and while it didnโ€™t hurt, it was definitely uncomfortable. It was a good lesson to really relax as much as I can when game day is here, because with Tom telling me to breathe and relax, the second part of it wasnโ€™t quite as terrible. Still terrible though, donโ€™t get me wrong.

Iโ€™ve felt pretty weird since the appointment, cramping up pretty badly (which is normal) and have no idea if itโ€™s going to do the trick. The thing about stripping membranes is that it could cause me to go into labor within the next 24 hours, or nothing at all could happen.

If she isnโ€™t here by this weekend, I get to go through the fun of it, but more vigorously, on Tuesday. The good news is that I know what to expect next time and after all of this, weโ€™ll finally get to meet her <3

Oh how exciting!! I can still remember the anticipation I felt waiting for my sons to arrive. I’m glad your little one flipped and is in position. My first son was breach and I ended up with a c-section for both but I’m glad they are both healthy so it worked out fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Girl…I was 2 cm dilated and about 90% effaced at my 38w checkup. My doctor checked me and said if you want I can do a gentle stripping (I was soooo ready to meet her) and I said sure. This was about 3pm. Went to bed about 10pm and at midnight woke up and was in full on labor. Had her at 11am the next day. It went FAST! No interventions, 100% natural, and I know those are your wishes, too.

So…you could be *very close*. Everyone is different but I smell a baby…soon ๐Ÿ™‚

GOOD LUCK! and congrats on the flip!

  21. Lindsay R. on January 6, 2012 at 7:46 pm

  23. Lindsay on January 6, 2012 at 7:54 pm

I got mine stripped the day before my scehduled induction at 39 weeks (gest diabetes) and used my breastpump that night for like 15 min. First contraction at 6 am, holding baby girl 746 am, an hour before my induction time! So you may want to try out that new pump tonight!

  24. mary on January 6, 2012 at 7:55 pm

Yay! I’d like to officially change my guess from the 8th to the 7th. ; )

  30. Ali on January 6, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Wow! Well you will have less walls and inhibitions about your body when this is all said and done, that must be why moms tend to be less squeemish about things over all. I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU THAT SHE FLIPPED!! My dear friend is facing the same predicament, and I hope the same good news happens for her soon too! Yay for everything!

  31. Teri on January 6, 2012 at 8:50 pm

  33. Mandy on January 6, 2012 at 9:11 pm

Stripping the membranes did it for me with baby#3. She did it that morning and baby boy woke me up next morning with strong contractions and I was holding him by noon.
But, I’m still going for the 9th (Monday), because it’s my daughter’s birthday. Have a great last weekend!

  34. Cristal on January 6, 2012 at 9:13 pm

    Hi Gina,
I had my membranes stripped also. After the appointment, I kept saying, “Man, she really did something to me today!” I was so crampy all day long. I ended up going into labor that night and delivered my baby girl at 3:00 the next afternoon. I didn’t find out my daughter was “sunny side up” until we went to the hospital that night. I’m glad she moved for you! Good luck with everything. It’s such an exciting time and nothing can describe the feeling you have when you hold your baby in your arms after 10 looong months. Savor every moment. It is so special.

  35. Jennifer on January 6, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Woohoo! So excited for you guys!

  37. Jamie on January 6, 2012 at 9:26 pm

Great news! It sounds like it’s going to be soon for you ๐Ÿ™‚ My due date was exactly one year ago today. Cherish these next few hours or days. I love my son but I still miss my big preggo belly and the amazing feeling of him growing & moving in my belly. And enjoy every minute with your daughter it goes so fast.

  38. Lisa on January 6, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I wrote to you before about my 1st daughter who was posterior. With my 2nd daughter I had my membranes stripped. And it worked! Good luck to you!

    Yaaaaaaaaay she flipped! Fantastic news!

Uhhhhhhhhh yeah that appointment just sounds awful.

  41. Meg on January 6, 2012 at 10:12 pm

  42. Dawn on January 6, 2012 at 10:35 pm

  43. Sarah D. on January 6, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Gina!! For the past two weeks, every time I check the blog and you haven’t updated it yet, I’m like “OMG did she have the baby/!?!!” So excited for you and Tom! Thanks for being so open about everything and sharing your experience.

  44. Alicia on January 6, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Just wanted to share that I ended up with an induction (thanks to premature rupture of the membranes) and labor went amazingly smoothly for me, so don’t freak yourself out that inductions=need for epi, etc. GL!

So exciting! I’m so happy that she has flipped and you (and the rest of us) are going to get to meet her soon! I know this sounds silly, but I sleep with my phone by my bed, and the last few nights when I’ve woken up during the night for water I’ve checked your page to see if there is a baby announcement! Thinking of you and wishing you all the best!

  48. Lindsay on January 6, 2012 at 11:26 pm

I delivered my daughter at 41 weeks and 2 days, and the day before at my appointment I had my membranes swept. So it worked for me. I had cramps all day after that and went into full blown labor that night. Good luck!
