New Bready Love

Hi guys 😀 Happy Monday! How’s your morning going??

Last night, we went to dinner and a movies with Jeni 🙂

I rolled with the salmon salad instead of the usual salmon and veg at Longhorn to switch things up a little:

(balsamic on the side, no cheese, no croutons)

salad

+ a plain baked sweet potater

sp

It was pretty delicious- I’d been hankering for Longhorn. (Funny that one of my fave places in Valdizzy is a steakhouse, but the food is pretty good)

Then we went to see Inception

Mind <—— Blown

The fact that I stayed awake says a lot –I’m a notorious movie snoozer– and I can’t stop thinking about it. Are we alive right now, or in a crazy dream??? Just kidding…. kinda. Haha 🙂

This morning, I decided to have some Cullen juice to start the day.

juice

carrots

-1 giant organic Fuji apple

-1/4 huge beet

-nub of ginger

Slurped up with a glass straw.

For the “meat” of my b-fast, I broke out the newest addition to our bread family:

kamut

Kamut bread! Have any of ya’ll tried it?? (Note: I always keep frozen bread in the freezer, chisel off a piece when I want some and put it in the toaster. This way, it doesn’t get old in the fridge)

Whole Paycheck was out of millet, so we decided to try something new- LOVE the ingredients. Kamut flour, sea salt and water. That’s it!

toast

It tastes kind of like wheat sourdough– a little tang to it, dense and chewy.

I think I have a new bready love 🙂

The pilot is going into work a little later, so I’m going to make him some b-fast and then get to work!

Have a wonderful day <3

xoxo,

Gina

See ya later this afternoon with that new smoothie recipe + how to create a workout schedule

Today’s workout jam: “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” by Shakira. I used this for the Zumba Song of the Day about a month ago, but I’m still obsessed with it 😉 It makes you want to run, dance, spin, shake—so fun 😀

I keep it in the freezer too, but half the time I take off a finger trying to cut through it! Any tips? I haven’t tried kamut but I love millet and brown rice bread.

    • A Teenage Gourmet on July 19, 2010 at 10:20 am

Jessica, my deep freeze is in the garage . . I literally find a clean, flat-headed screwdriver and wedge it in between the slices. 😀

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 10:20 am

i usually whack it again the counter a few times to make it easier to cut

      • RhodeyGirl on July 19, 2010 at 11:23 am

And I usually just leave it on the counter for 1-2 minutes. Somehow just a minute helps a piece come off that much easier.

  2. A Teenage Gourmet on July 19, 2010 at 10:18 am

I just got around to trying Millet, and now you’ve switched your bread love, noooo. Haha. This is a funny post though! I can’t wait to see Inception. I adore Leo. <3

  3. Nicci on July 19, 2010 at 10:19 am

We use that song in my Zumba class, love it.

  4. Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather on July 19, 2010 at 10:20 am

your juice sounds so refreshing! I hope to get a juicer sometime soon so I can enjoy fresh veggie and fruit juices.

  5. Marilou @ Mostly Healthy on July 19, 2010 at 10:22 am

Saw Inception too last night …. WOAH!

I need to try new kind of breads like that … I’ve never been carbventurous 😉

  6. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 19, 2010 at 10:23 am

i’m going to download that song immediately!

  7. April on July 19, 2010 at 10:25 am

    LOVE waka waka for zumba!

  8. Ilana on July 19, 2010 at 10:29 am

ahh Waka Waka! It always gets me going.

Not gonna lie I actually fell asleep for two minutes during Inception but I LOVED the movie anyway. My boyfriend keeps asking me to check that we’re actually still awake…I don’t have a weighted dice to check though…

  9. jackie on July 19, 2010 at 10:34 am

    love Waka Waka!!!!

  10. Tina on July 19, 2010 at 10:34 am

I really want to see that movie. I love twisted plots like that.

  11. Kathleen on July 19, 2010 at 10:37 am

Hi Gina! I was wondering if the millet bread you buy is gluten free? I keep seeing it in Whole Foods and wondering if it is the same kind. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 10:41 am

      yup it’s gluten free

  12. Heather on July 19, 2010 at 10:45 am

Never tried the kamut bread (French Meadow is soooo expensive but so good!) BUT next time look for the hemp bread or bagels. The bagels have like 20g of protein in them– they’re also calorie dense (and NOT gluten-free) but so yummy!

I’m going to see Inception tonight…I’ve been avoiding internet spoilers like the plague.

  13. shelly@campinggirlchronicals on July 19, 2010 at 10:46 am

We also keep our bread in the freezer… we never eat it fast enough.

  14. Sarra H on July 19, 2010 at 10:47 am

Have you heard this song before? amazing for zumba! (or any workout for that matter) 🙂

  15. Kathryn on July 19, 2010 at 10:55 am

just tried the chocolate cherry bomb (no banana though 🙁 ) A-MAZ-ING!! so freaking good! It was like probably a little low on liquid so it turned out like chocolate/cherry italian ice…I will definitely be making this all the time!!

  16. rachael on July 19, 2010 at 10:55 am

That bread looks awesome and has a great ingredients list. I am definitely going to look for it at whole paycheck, thanks for the tip!

  17. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on July 19, 2010 at 11:00 am

I love that Shakira song….we do that song in Zumba all the time.

  18. Run Sarah on July 19, 2010 at 11:00 am

That bread sounds awesome – great ingreds too! I keep all of my breads, muffins, bagels, wraps, etc frozen so they don’t go stale as well.

  19. Anya on July 19, 2010 at 11:00 am

Mm, the bread sounds tasty! I can’t wait to see Inception. It’ll probably be a while until I get to but it seems like an exciting movie. 🙂

  20. Amanda on July 19, 2010 at 11:02 am

I’m a weekend blog slacker, and just saw that you were in Jacksonville Beach! I live down the street from where you guys were staying! Hope you had a fun trip! You lucked out with great weather! It wasn’t as hot or rainy as it has been lately!

  21. Krystina on July 19, 2010 at 11:04 am

I’m excited for the work out sched + smoothie! That bread sounds fab.

  22. Naomi (onefitfoodie) on July 19, 2010 at 11:20 am

i ALWAYS keep my bread in the freezer too!! i just hate when you are chisling off a piece and you break it 🙂 luckily it doesnt happen that often! i need to try kamut bread!!

  23. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on July 19, 2010 at 11:20 am

I’m obsessed with that song! My friends wanted me to go see inception with them late last night, but it was too late for my granny sleep schedule.

  24. Vanessa on July 19, 2010 at 11:29 am

hehe, i always fall asleep at the movie theater too! i’ve slept through some of the most exciting, action-packed movies…. i really want to make it through the full thing, but i’m powerless against the comfy chairs and cool, dark theaters 🙂

  25. Stephanie on July 19, 2010 at 11:34 am

Oh I heart kamut. It’s a great flour substitute too 🙂

  26. Kat on July 19, 2010 at 11:42 am

I just got back to ATL from vacation in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and was catching up on posts; I can’t believe that I was there from 7/2 – 7/17 and yet the weekend i leave, is the weekend you and the Pilot came down. I definitely hit up both MBody Studios numerous times over the two weeks and ate at Turtle Island a couple of times as well (thanks for the rec by the way!). Maybe one day we will both be there at the same time and can meet up for yoga and a wrap!

  27. Hilary@coffeeismycarrot on July 19, 2010 at 11:45 am

I can’t wait to see Inception! Everyone says it’s really good and a thinker.

Love the reference to my fave vampire coven 🙂

  28. Kat (Bubble Gum Gym Kat) on July 19, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I want to see that movie bad!!! Maybe this weekend I will talk my boyfriend into it!

  29. Laura (B Foxy Fitness) on July 19, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Just saw Inception too! When the credits rolled, I could hear like 15 people in the theater utter, “whooooaaaa.” Fantastic acting, awesome special effects, and SUPERB eye candy! 😉 Definitely the movie of the summer!

That “Cullen Juice” looks as refreshing as Inception! 🙂

  30. Michelle on July 19, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Waka Waka is my favorite song to zumba too! It gets my whole class pumped up. Our teacher just quit though.. Come teach in Boston?? 🙂

  31. Danielle (Runs on Green) on July 19, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Ohh I’ve seen that Kamut bread in the frozen section! I’m always really close to buying it…but then get turned off at the size of the slices (it’s like baby bread lol)

    Have a good day!

  32. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 19, 2010 at 12:30 pm

I never buy GF breads, crazy huh. I just never really was that into bread and Ive been GF for 5+ years and in that entire time, I’ve never had bread! Other than any kind of raw breads or crackers I can make in my dehyd. Ive heard more GF breads are not too good and they are pricey so Ive never tried them but this one looks so good!

Have a great week, Gina!! Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend 🙂

  33. Julie @ Pickley Pear on July 19, 2010 at 12:33 pm

I keep bread in the freezer too, lasts so much longer that way. I cannot wait to see Inception! I think I need to go this week before I hear anything else about it 🙂

  34. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on July 19, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Oooh I can’t wait to see Inception! I usually fall asleep during movies, too, so I’m hesitant to go to the theatre… but maybe I can manage to stay awake during this one!

  35. Ellen@FirednFabulous on July 19, 2010 at 12:55 pm

WHOA! You’re cheating on your beloved millet? Never thought I’d see the day! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 12:56 pm

      LOL. yes, i am a cheater 🙂

  36. christina cadden on July 19, 2010 at 1:01 pm

    Looks so good!

  37. Emily Lou on July 19, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I love “Waka Waka!” I just uploaded it to my iPod the other day and I swear I’ve listened to it on repeat an unnecessary amount of times.

  38. Wendy on July 19, 2010 at 1:37 pm

So you’re wheat-free? I just bought a gluten-free bread mix. Can’t wait to bake it!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 1:48 pm

nope, i just tend to eat more gluten-free.

  39. Carrie on July 19, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I *almost* grabbed some millet bread yesterday, but I knew the huzbo wouldn’t eat it and I wasn’t about to buy two different kinds of bread. Not enough room for that in my teensy kitchen. But he may have to try the kamut.

  40. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on July 19, 2010 at 1:59 pm

I’m going to see Inception tonight! I can’t wait!!

Kamut bread sounds good! I’ve made pancakes using Kamut flour before, and I loved them– but my husband was a little freaked out by the density and darker color of the flour! Ha ha.

  41. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on July 19, 2010 at 2:13 pm

A couple of my friends saw Inception and told me that it was amazing. I think I’m seeing it later this week. Cannot Wait. I love anything with Leonardo DiCaprio, though. I’ve been a fan since Titanic 😀 That new bread you tried sounds delicious. A wheaty sourdough?? I definitely need to try this!

  42. Lauren on July 19, 2010 at 2:31 pm

DYING to see Inception. Last Friday it was either that, or Eclipse. Obviously, the choice wasn’t too terribly difficult. 😉
    But NEXT TIME. DEFINITELY!!

  43. Barb on July 19, 2010 at 2:38 pm

love me some Waka Waka and I can’t justify spending that much on a loaf of bread and not keeping it in the freezer–I am still into the Ezekiel and Alvarado Street Bakery has GREAT bagels and bread-I am not sure if it is GF though. 🙂

  44. tanyadaily on July 19, 2010 at 2:38 pm

The sweet potato looks really good.

  45. Shannon on July 19, 2010 at 2:42 pm

    Hey Gina,

Just curious if you get a minute to answer…what do you think of Ezekiel Bread, and is it as good for you as the millet bread you normally eat?

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 3:59 pm

ezekiel is amazing- just as great as the millet bread

  46. laura on July 19, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Reallllly eager to see Inception too xx

  47. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 19, 2010 at 4:02 pm

So glad you liked it too. I still can’t stop thinking about it. AND–did it end in a dream or reality? LOVE that ending!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2010 at 4:10 pm

i don’t know!!! that’s what’s bothering me so much! hahah

  48. Jill@MySoCalledHealthLife on July 19, 2010 at 4:54 pm

The bf and I are going to see Inception on Friday and I CAN NOT WAIT!!!

Also I have def been keeping my bread in the freezer or at least fridge. But I def have to toast before I eat (even from the fridge) because it just gets too soggy feeling! But toasting is worth it because I can actually make it through a whole loaf of bread before it goes bad!

  49. kaila on July 19, 2010 at 5:44 pm

oh i hope your winner doesnt contact u lol! NAd kamut bread is awesome….its so dense! French meadow bakery sent me some to sample a few months ago and i couldn’t believe how heavy the loaf was! I have never had millet bread but if kamut bread is comparable to it than im sure i would like it. 🙂

  50. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 19, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I keep my bread in the freezer too. I hate it when it gets sort of freezer burned though! 😛
