The Good Stuff

Hiiiiii 😀 Happy Monday! Hope you’re having an amazing morning.

This morning, I woke up a little earlier,

munched a piece of toast

toast

put on my sneaks, sunscreen, grabbed a water bottle

shoes

and went for a morning walk at Sabino Canyon.

1b67231d39ab40e8b0b3498b6259ff45_7

Not a bad way to wake up, eh? 🙂

There were lots of hikers and bikers out this morning and it was so peaceful to be outside instead of on a cardio machine. It’s interesting because whenever I used to go to Sabino Canyon, I would be training for a race, so I’d run to the top and back (cursing the entire time because it’s STEEP) and call it a day. I didn’t get to really appreciate all of the gorgeous scenery. Now that I need to take things a little easier –no more sprinting up death hill right now- it’s forced me to wake up and smell the… cactus a little 😉

When I got home, I munched a chocolaty blueberry smoothie:

smoothie

-almond milk

-frozen organic blueberries

-raw cacao powder

-Sun Warrior

-half a frozen banana

-1/2 t espresso powder

-Stevia

{Sometimes I get asked how I fit all of a smoothie into such a small glass. I don’t. It’s usually about two glasses worth and then I slurp whatever’s left straight out of the Vitamix. Last time the Pilot saw me doing it, he said “That’s not the first time you’ve done that, huh?” haha}

and am about to get crackalackin’ on the to-do list.

-Emails (I’m swimming in emails from the lack of internet for the week of the move. If I haven’t gotten back to you yet, I’m working on it!)

-Meal planning, blog planning and groceries

-Errands

-Weights

-The good stuff: putting our decor where I want it to go- it’s currently scattered around the dining room and living room 😀

decor

We unpacked 3 huge boxes of decor last night and I was scary excited about.

I’ve already found places for some of the things,

flowers

but there’s still a lot of art, candles, centerpieces and photos (!) that need to go up 🙂

wedding

Photos definitely make a house feel more like a home.

I’m off!

See ya later today!
xoxo

Gina

Something to do: Plan an AM walk for tomorrow- it will make the day so much better 🙂

haha if Ross sees me chugging from the Vita (or spooning extra banana soft serve or choco-avocado pudding out!) he says I’m gross. We’re having a similar day – I’m currently finding homes for all of our decorations and we’re headed for a beach walk (no canyons here!) tonight. xo!

Yay for unpacking! Tomorrow is moving day and then its unpacking time for me too! Ahhhh! My parents are stressing me out!! Can’t wait for the new kitchen though, finally 😀

I take a 30-60 minute walk every morning with my puppy – it really is the best way to start the day! 🙂

  5. Emily on August 8, 2011 at 12:24 pm

Outdoors in the morning always does my spirit so much better than the gym! I loved Sabino when I was in Tucson! Have fun decorating and get your to-dos knocked off!

Ahhh what scenic morning hike! It’s so true that while you’re huffin’ and puffin’ through a run, it’s easy to miss out on the beautiful enviroment around you!

  10. Nicole on August 8, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I’m totally not a morning person, but on those rare occasions where I’ve been up and walking through the neighborhood, I’m always pleasantly surprised by the peacefulness. Especially when it’s walking through a neighborhood in Chicago 🙂 You can actually hear bird chirping and not hear the sound of cars whizzing by…so nice!

  11. Natasha (OveLoves) on August 8, 2011 at 12:29 pm

I love writing down my to-dos as it is such a great feeling to cross them off (is that weird?). I have a summer wish list that I’ve been slowly getting through and I feel so accomplished when I can cross something off as they are things that I’ve never or haven’t done in a while.

A walk sounds like a great way to get me to wake up, stop reading blogs ;), and get my blood pumping! I also love your wedding photos, and I agree, photos make a house feel much more like a home!

  21. Steph on August 8, 2011 at 12:55 pm

Looks like you had a great walk! Sometime’s it’s nice to slow down and enjoy things – I’ve been trying to walk around my neighborhood more too 🙂

  23. Alicia on August 8, 2011 at 12:55 pm

I love putting up photos 🙂 problem is our apartment doesn’t have enough wall space for everything! haha

  24. Beth (well ill be) on August 8, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Photos really do make a house feel like a home! We lost all of our photos right after we moved into our house when Nashville flooded, so it was a while before we had any up, but it does make such a difference!

  25. Stephanie on August 8, 2011 at 12:59 pm

Mmmm that smoothie looks delish! I can’t wait until the day I can afford a Vitamix! Until then the magic bullet will have to do! P.S. I have that exact same coffee table, loooove it 🙂

  26. Namaste Gurl on August 8, 2011 at 1:01 pm

What does chocolate not go well with? I mean, honestly 🙂 Hehe.
Good luck on getting packing and decorating done– take breaks!

  27. Jackie @ That Deep Breath on August 8, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I dont have a glass that fits my entire smoothie, which is another reason I eat it in a bowl! So funny that you drink it out of the Vitamix!

  28. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on August 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm

Sounds like a lovely start to your day, Gina! The house is really starting to come together. I totally agree that photos definitely make it feel more home-y. And with gorgeous wedding ones like yours, I’d definitely want them on display!

  29. Holly @ The Runny Egg on August 8, 2011 at 1:11 pm

    A morning walk sounds lovely!

We’re rearranging lots of our furniture and artwork — we’re hoping it makes it feel like we have a new house!

  30. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on August 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm

I LOVE Sabino Canyon! And I know what you mean about steep – haha. Sometimes it’s amazing what we see when we just slow down a little bit. 🙂 Your pics of the canyon make me miss AZ SO much – luckily I am headed that way Wednesday!

And pictures definitely turn a house into a home. 🙂

  31. Kristi @ Sweet Cheeks on August 8, 2011 at 1:17 pm

I have been doing the same thing in the mornings lately. It is so nice to take it easy with a peaceful walk, while also getting some cardio in at the same time. It’s the perfect way to start the day, as long as it’s not already scorching hot outside! 😉

  32. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on August 8, 2011 at 1:25 pm

To get in a morning walk I’d have to wake up at about 4am… I think I’ll walk after work instead! 😉

  33. Laury @ thefitnessdish on August 8, 2011 at 1:33 pm

I wanna move to AZ so I can start my morning like that!

  35. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 8, 2011 at 1:38 pm

photos are the best/worst part of moving. Such a pain in the butt to hang (picking the spot, leveling, finding the right nails, etc.) but, so worth it for the end result!

  36. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on August 8, 2011 at 1:40 pm

I love walking in the morning. It sets you up for an energized, healthy day. Wish I had a place like that canyon to walk at, though!

  37. Jess on August 8, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Wow, what a gorgeous way to start the week! I love early-morning walks : )

  38. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 8, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Beautiful photos! I am glad that your house is starting to come together and feel more like a home. You have the best wedding photos ever! I get up early and walk every morning, because I walk to work. It truly is the best part of my day some days! Nothing beats fresh, crisp morning air, right?

  39. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on August 8, 2011 at 2:33 pm

I love decorating. It’s so much fun but it can get expensive fast!

  40. Nicole on August 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Sounds like fun! Also, not to scare you…but I read somewhere that there was a warning about Stevia and “buns-in-the-oven” that weren’t so bueno. Whatever it was, I know it made me stop using it. Look into mama!

  41. Aine @ Something to Chew Over on August 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm

I love the colour of your smoothie!

Early morning walks are the best for starting off your day 🙂

  42. mary on August 8, 2011 at 3:07 pm

I will actually save half a smoothie for the next day, which grosses out my housemates to no end because they’re always ugly dark green (blueberries, spinach) and separating.

Totally unrelated but I went to a different Costco yesterday and they had Rudi’s gluten-free multi-grain bread in the freezer, and it’s delicious!

  43. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 8, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Aww, I love the pics of you and Pilot. So pretty! Glad you’re getting all settled in!

Waking up and smelling the cactus…that’s so true. Nature is beautiful and glad you’re enjoying it!

Got your email, crazy day. Will tweak things and re-send later 🙂

  44. Shayla @ The Good Life on August 8, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Your house is looking beautiful! And I love that you can go on such a beautiful morning walk. I don’t currently live in an area that has such a nice view. It makes me get stuck in a gym. I get very bored of the gym.

  49. Angela on August 8, 2011 at 4:49 pm

Where do you get cacao and expresso powder?

  50. Jin on August 8, 2011 at 5:14 pm

Nothing about some exercise to start the day.
I’ll prefer a nice run or intervall skipping to get my heart rate up.
And smoothie is also my favorite breakfast at the moment – yours look so nice and makes me wanna buy the sun warrior protein!
