The great block of cheese + your two words

Morning! Happy Humpday to ya 😉 It feels weird to be getting back in the swing of things on a Wednesday. Whenever we have company staying with us, I feel like I’m on vacation, too 😉 Today, it’s back to the usual to-dos and the mountain of laundry I’ve neglected.

In other news, I’ve also been trying to conquer this enormous block of manchego.

Cheese 1 of 1

(Bella and Caro had a little, too.)

Even after using a generous amount for a party cheese plate, I still have my work cut out for me.

An easy tortilla pizza with marinara, chicken and said queso:

Tortilla pizza 1 of 1

(tortilla pizzas are such a delicious, easy lunch!),

dinner was procured from our crazy amount of leftovers (it looks like an episode of Hoarders in our fridge)

and my workout was quick and dirty. I had a couple of minutes for strength, and was able to catch some of a Zumba class before heading to an appointment. Whenever I have a small amount of time for strength, I focus on compound movements that will elevate my heart rate and encourage strength gains. Last night, I alternated between a squat, bicep curl, overhead press combo, pushups (always kill me), assisted pull-ups, V-ups and planks for the 10 minutes. It’s amazing how much you can do in a short amount of time if you really PUSH yourself! I didn’t stop moving, got in a little cardio and was on my way.

Nighttime necessity:

I thee red 1 of 1

(I Thee Red is a fave right now, and still loving Apothic Red)

Today, it’s casa-cleaning time, and Livi and I are going to make her Valentines. I remember when she was our little Valentine date last year!!

I’m off to refresh the Zumba playlist -teaching again tonight! Wahoo!- and start breakfast.

Hope you have a wonderful day <3

See ya later on the Fashion page with a little rose lip balm DIY.

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: My friend Carla (aka MizFit aka mom-and-muscle-spiration) posted this on her Facebook last night. If you could tell your younger self two words, what would they be?? Mine would be “slow down.” I was in such a frenzy during my college years, that most of my memories are a busy blur. I learned how to slow down a little later in my life, but am glad it finally happened. My second choice would be “more naps.” 😉

    My two words:
    Your okay.

  2. Jacquelynn on January 22, 2014 at 10:36 am

I’m working through a block of goat cheese gouda… my fave right now! 🙂

  3. Kristen on January 22, 2014 at 10:40 am

I feel the same way when we have company. It’s vacation time and all chores go out the window!

My two words to my younger self would be “take pictures.” I remember a lot about my child, teen, and college years but honestly I feel like I’ve already forgotten so much (and I’m only 29). I wish I’d taken more pics to look back on.
My husband makes fun of me for taking a million pics of our son. I think I’m making up for my own lack-of-picture issues. Haha

  4. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on January 22, 2014 at 10:43 am

“Live passionately”. It is seriously the only thing that matters!

Thank you for the pizza idea! I’ve been hating lunches lately and need to get out of my rut!

  5. Natasha on January 22, 2014 at 10:45 am

    “Be happy”

Happiness is the most important thing to me and is what gets me through the days.

This was a great idea, and surprisingly took me a while to think of what I would say!

  6. Susan on January 22, 2014 at 10:55 am

Mine would be “sleep around” or maybe “eat pizza”

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:35 pm

thanks for making me choke on my coffee this morning haha

      • Susan on January 22, 2014 at 8:12 pm

I’m glad you laughed…the first was totally a joke. Maybe “date around” would have been more appropriate haha

  7. Jen on January 22, 2014 at 10:56 am

My two words would be “love people” – I spent most of my college and grad school years focusing more on academics than relationships and I wish I had a better balance during that time!

  8. Angelica on January 22, 2014 at 10:58 am

    Mine would be: “have fun”

I’ve been trying to add a little “fun” into whatever I’m doing. Sometimes I make up funny things to remember what I’m learning in school, turn on some music while reading, and I’ve definitely become a fan of the “study 30 minutes/ 5-10 min break.”

  9. Maria on January 22, 2014 at 11:03 am

    “dont settle”
in anything jobs relationships , follow your heart!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:34 pm

      love this so much

  10. Megan @ The Skinny-Life on January 22, 2014 at 11:04 am

BE CONFIDENT….how I wish I what an incredible person I am when I was younger & wouldn’t have wasted time worrying about what others thought about me.

  11. Brynn on January 22, 2014 at 11:09 am

Breathe and believe. I would have told myself that worrying about things doesn’t get you further along. Instead, breathe in and out and let it go. Believe in yourself that you are enough and that you are strong, smart and good enough to live a happy life.

    Great question!!

  12. Monique @ burpees to bubbly on January 22, 2014 at 11:37 am

What a great question… there are so many I could choose from and I love a lot I’ve read from other readers! Worry less, love more, live more, let go, forgive & forget….

  13. Juliana on January 22, 2014 at 11:49 am

    “Be present”

I used to spend a lot of time focusing on things I’d rather be doing, or places I’d rather be, which in retrospect was unfortunate because I missed out on a lot of great stuff that was around me.

  14. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on January 22, 2014 at 12:01 pm

    “Love yourself”

  15. Julie on January 22, 2014 at 12:02 pm

I love those words that you picked. I am doing both this year, and I’ve noticed it’s a big trend to “slow down.”

    Our dogs love cheese too!

  16. Megan B. on January 22, 2014 at 12:05 pm

I would definitely tell myself to “eat smarter” — I was a division I college athlete, but when I think about my food choices back then I didn’t have the same mindset I do now…and I will always wonder how much better I could’ve performed if I would have fueled myself correctly!

  17. Beth on January 22, 2014 at 12:39 pm

    Two words…DON’T DIET!

We got a bottle of Dearly Beloved for part of a wedding present and I loved the bottle! I have never seen that brand anywhere. We’re planning on saving it for our 25th anniversary 🙂

“Stress less” (about school, boys, life) &
    “You’re enough.”

I’m currently 21 and really struggle with these little reminders, thank you for another great post!

    • mallory on January 22, 2014 at 4:32 pm

You’re enough is one of my favorites! I work with teens and regularly remind them, “you are good enough, exactly as you are!” ” It’s okay – you are enough!” It can really help to take that breath.

      • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:27 pm

<3 teens definitely need to hear that

        • Britt on January 22, 2014 at 8:55 pm

as a teen myself, i need to start telling myself that more often!

  23. Lauren W. on January 22, 2014 at 1:27 pm

I really loved reading everyone’s two words…the “You’re ok” made me tear up. I’d probably say that to myself too. It helps even now – so I’ll tell it to the younger-5 minutes ago-Me.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:33 pm

      i’ve loved reading these, too.

  24. Monica on January 22, 2014 at 1:38 pm

  26. Shari on January 22, 2014 at 1:50 pm

I have two: “dream big” and “just breathe.” 🙂

  27. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on January 22, 2014 at 1:53 pm

Mine would be : stop worrying. It took me a while, but I’m so glad I did!

  28. She Rocks Fitness on January 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm

I LOVE that cheese from Costco! I’m currently trying to get through the Kirkland Goat Cheese…the 2 logs…I’m on the second, but it’s taking me a little bit longer to get through this one. HA! Sucker for wine labels and I like that one…

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:32 pm

haha i learned to stop buying the two logs. i couldn’t do it.

      • Colleen on January 23, 2014 at 10:57 am

I always freeze the second log. It thaws perfectly when you are ready for it! 🙂

  29. Shayna on January 22, 2014 at 2:10 pm

“enjoy it!” I had so much fun – great friends, lived in an awesome place, had a great family, no gray hair! I wouldn’t have needed that note, I probably would have just thought, “Gotcha covered, old Shayna.”

    My two words: “You’re beautiful!”

  31. Sarah on January 22, 2014 at 2:41 pm

    Cherish Mom
(She died too soon, and boy do I miss her)

    • Britt on January 22, 2014 at 3:00 pm

This made me get teary eyed!

    • Molly on January 22, 2014 at 3:02 pm

I love this. I lost my mom when I was 20, and it was (and still is) one of the hardest things to deal with.

      • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:29 pm

this made me cry. sending love to you both

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:30 pm

this broke my heart. sending love to you.

  32. Kimberly on January 22, 2014 at 2:55 pm

My two words would probably be, “just go’. I have spent so much of my life making plans for the future that when I actually get to “that” future, I forget to enjoy it and live it because I am too busy planning for the rest of the future. Its so exhausting. I really like everyone else’s like “you’re okay” and “you’re enough”. great post!

  33. Britt on January 22, 2014 at 2:59 pm

Mine would be “you’re beautiful”. Self esteem was so low I never thought I was pretty. And while I still wish I was thinner or had different features, I have learned to love myself and accept myself for who I am. I wish I figured this out sooner.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:30 pm

you ARE beautiful, friend <3 your heart is, too.

      • Britt on January 22, 2014 at 8:59 pm

This reply made me cry. You really inspire me Gina. I am so thankful that my mom had your blog up one day while I walked by her computer and I stopped to look at it, (The pink drew me in!). I hope that one day I can visit San Diego and hopefully meet you!

        • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 11:06 pm

          <3 i hope so too!

  34. Molly on January 22, 2014 at 3:00 pm

My two words would be “Just Relax!”
I stress about everything: being the best teacher, going back to school, being single at my age (31!!), eating healthier, working out more…I just need to relax! It’s a constant battle to just relax and enjoy my life at this very moment!

  35. Coco on January 22, 2014 at 3:02 pm

    I would say “CALM DOWN”

  36. jamie on January 22, 2014 at 3:17 pm

My two words would definitely be “Be Fearless” as in the end everything works out!

  37. Hayley@healthyregardshayley on January 22, 2014 at 3:31 pm

    Love Deeply!

  38. Kara Heckaman on January 22, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Mine would be “Accept Yourself.” I was always so hard on myself everywhere from my image to my personality. If I would have just been comfortable in my own skin I would have been so much happier.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:29 pm

      same <3

  39. lucie on January 22, 2014 at 4:13 pm

    My two words: Let go.

And YES for Tortilla Pizza, I love it!!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:29 pm

      have you seen frozen yet?!

  40. Abi@AbsofSteel on January 22, 2014 at 4:15 pm

2 words: trust yourself. I think when we’re young we spend so much time trying to be the way we think others want us to be, wish I could go back and tell mini me to trust more in the person I was.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:28 pm

      i totally agree. be you!

  41. Maria@TheBrooklynFig on January 22, 2014 at 4:20 pm

I’ve never tried manchego, but love the idea of a tortilla pizza. We always have tortillas on hand for tacos and quesadillas, but this is a great way to break out of the lunch rut. I typically eat the same lunch everyday, but now have some inspiration to switch it up!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:28 pm

yeah, it’s nice to change things up every now and again!

  42. mallory on January 22, 2014 at 4:32 pm

    Love that wine bottle!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:27 pm

      same! i love skulls 🙂

  43. Mia on January 22, 2014 at 4:47 pm

Apothic Red is my dad’s favorite red as of lately. Whenever he sees it on sale, he stocks up!
Too much manchego, eh? Grilled manchego cheese sandwiches on brown rice bread or make a nice bechamel over some brown rice pasta? It’s also good drizzled with a little honey for somethings sweet after dinner with a glass of wine. 🙂

Two words to my younger self? Let go.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:27 pm

we do the same! costco usually has it for the best price 🙂
i love the manchego ideas. thank you!!!

      • mia on January 22, 2014 at 6:35 pm

I didn’t know Costco had it. Both my husband and my dad will be happy to know….Costco sucks you in with their deals! 🙂

  44. Lulu on January 22, 2014 at 4:48 pm

I would tell myself “relax, love”

  45. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on January 22, 2014 at 4:52 pm

I would have to agree with you on the slow down. I would also tell myself to go with the flow more. I always tried to have everything figured out all the time which is impossible!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:26 pm

      amen to that 🙂

  46. Veronica on January 22, 2014 at 4:55 pm

LOVE manchego cheese – my family is from Puerto Rico and we love pairing manchego cheese with slivers of guava paste for a sweet treat. If you try it, let me know how you like it!

“Be positive.” Having a positive outlook on life has completely changed my overall wellness and how I approach difficulties. I can never have enough little reminders to keep a positive mentality.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:26 pm

i will definitely let you know! where to find guava paste? i’ve never tried it 🙂

      • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:26 pm

and totally agree that a little positivity goes a long way

      • Veronica on January 23, 2014 at 8:38 am

I live in Atlanta so it is pretty easy for me to find it in the ‘latin’ section of any grocery store (publix, Kroger, etc.) Anywhere that sells Goya products would be a good place to start!

  47. jodie on January 22, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Great question, mine would be ” be confident”.

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:25 pm

      love that!

  48. Karissa on January 22, 2014 at 6:22 pm

What a great question! I think I would have a few that pop into mind – “Trust God,” “worry less,” “slow down.” I am, unfortunately, a worrier, and constantly need to remember that God is in control – worrying can really take away. And I completely relate to your story about college. I’m a big-time perfectionist and usually moving 100mph … that isn’t always great for appreciating people and experiences.

P.S. I freaking love cheese! That looks SO yummy!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2014 at 6:24 pm

i’m the same way! it’s important to just enjoy the moment and remember you can’t control everything (even if you want to! hah)

  49. brittney on January 22, 2014 at 7:12 pm

I think my two words to myself would be: “Live large.”

  50. Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves on January 22, 2014 at 7:22 pm

My two words would either be “God knows” or “slow down”
Onto the cheese: my family always takes forever to finish a big block of cheese from Costco too, but we still get them anyway as a treat because some cheeses are just too good to pass up! We haven’t tried manchego yet though— maybe that’s next!
