Total body HIIT + weekend things

Here’s my usual weekend post with a bonus total body HIIT workout for you! It’s an awesome mix of strength and HIIT to build muscle while keeping your heart rate up. Scroll to the end to see the workout!

Hi friends! How are you?  I’m loving all of your entries for the Primo Water giveaway! Keep ‘em coming! We love our Primo water and dispenser here at the house – they’re offering free shipping for February. You still have time to enter the huge Lorissa’s Kitchen giveaway here, too. I’ll announce those winners in Friday Faves.

I hope you’re enjoying the morning. I won’t post any spoilers or anything like that, but I’m FINALLY recovering from watching This Is Us Sunday night. Good; just in time for tonight’s episode. *scared face* If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly, highly recommend it. It’s my favorite show in a long time! Also, we randomly got into watching Shameless this weekend after some friends recommended it. It’s pretty much the opposite of This Is Us in every possible way (especially regarding the dads! Wowww), but hilarious and random. We binge-watched 5 episodes this weekend and stayed up way too late, and realized there are 7 seasons. Looks like we’re in it for the long haul haha.

This weekend ended up being nice and chill. The Pilot and I had a great date night at 306 North and ended up venturing to the bookstore afterwards. (Cardinal rule: you can’t have a babysitter and get home before the kids are asleep, haha.) I was hit pretty hard with nostalgia walking into Books-A-Million. I used to go there a lot when we first moved here, and would skim through all of the fitness and cookbooks. (I dreamed of being able to write my own!) It’s one of the few places we’d *hang out* when we were new to Valdosta and wanted to walk around somewhere. The Pilot and I had fun picking out some books and activities for the girls, and doing our best Bat Dad impressions with a toy Batman mask.

Saturday, we spent the morning here at home, making pancakes and eggs and watching the girls play in the cars and scooters. I got some work done during nap time and made a meal to take over to some friends. The mama recently had a medical procedure, so I texted to see what she was in the mood for. Enchiladas for the win.

Enchiladas

I made the usual recipe, along with beans, Instant Pot Mexican rice and chocolate chip cookies. I also grabbed a bag of chips + some salsa. I really wanted to chop up a salad or some fruit to go along with it, but the selections at the grocery store this weekend were a little sparse. (I think everyone was stocking up on Superbowl foods!)

Mexican meal

I made a double batch of everything, so dinner was done!

Sunday, it rained ALL DAY. It was kind of a bummer because the girls were cooped inside, but we ended up moving my car out of the garage so they could jump on the mini trampolines and get out some energy.

Total Body HIIT Workout

I hit up the gym for a sweaty HIIT + total body workout:

Iron pumping

and made chili in the Instant Pot for dinner. (Posted the recipe on my IG stories!)

Since then, we’re been back to the usual routine. Yesterday’s Zumba class was a little too exciting. I lost my auxiliary adapter for my phone, so I just connected via Bluetooth for the music. The Bluetooth cut out around 3 songs in and would not reconnect. I had the class doing lunges and squats across the room while I tried to figure out what the heck was going on, and discovered there was a CD in the CD player. I played it – the music was super fun – and we ended up doing an impromptu dance party. Minus the few Zumba songs I knew that snuck their way in there (that’s what happens when you’ve been teaching almost 10 years!), I made up everything on the spot. It was surprisingly super fun. Maybe Zumba Wild Card will be happening more often.

For dinner, we made breakfast for dinner (pancakes, eggs, and bacon). We need to do this on a regular basis because the girls went crazy for it.

I hope your week is off to a good start!

See ya in the morning with a house post about the cleaning schedule we follow.

xoxo

Gina

I think I didn’t cry maybe two minutes of the entire This is Us episode. So I was basically bawling for 45 minutes, starting literally in the first 15 seconds haha. I hear the Tuesday episode is even more heartbreaking. I can’t stop watching though!! It is just so good!

We watched the episode last night. I’m still a mess. I’m undoubtedly married to a jack and I’m still feeling all the feels.

I loved the first few seasons of Shameless. The cast is great and it’s crazy to watch the kids grow up. I haven’t brought myself to watch the last season they have on Netflix yet though. I got frustrated with the characters making bad life choices.

I love Shameless! And This Is Us! Yes, totally opposites, haha. Looking forward to the cleaning post tomorrow – thanks for writing about that! Also, that dinner you took to your friend looks ahhhhmazing. Yum. And so nice of you!

It’s the worst when stuff like that happens! A similar thing happened to me when I was doing a class assignment of leading the class through a workout. A group member was supposed to do the music, but at the last minute said that she couldn’t, so all I had time to do was put together a playlist on Spotify. Of course during the class the wifi kept dropping so it was spotty at best. So stressful!

Oh the challenges of being a fitness instructor! I feel like I’m always faced with something when I get to my spin class to teach.

omg I LOVE Shameless, so raunchy but so entertaining! I was hooked after a co-worker recommended it and I flew through seasons 1-6 in an embarrassingly short time. Those enchiladas look amazing!

Love this post! As a Group Fitness Instructor, I’m always looking for challenging new workouts and this HIIT one fits the bill! I’m sure I’ll be sweating in no time! 😉 I can totally relate to the music fiasco– it’s like one of those “you know you teach group fitness when…” moments. But, the way you adapted and still made the class awesome is inspiring! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!

I still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch This Is Us. Everyone always talks about how much it makes them cry and I just don’t know if I could handle it… lol.
