Whitney: Work to Yoga

I miss wearing lycra everyday to work. No scratch that, that’s a lie, I actually don’t miss that as I would gain and lose weight all the time because everything stretches. That’s a whole-notha-story. And if you’re wondering I worked for lululemon forever and as much as you would think wearing workout gear everyday would keep you fit, well it did not. Transitioning from lycra to business casual hasn’t been difficult, I actually have loved it as everyday is a chance to play dress up. However, lycra is no longer Kosher in the office (even at lululemon’s head office, we all wore spandex everyday).

What has been difficult is not having flexibility in office hours to workout whenever I want to. So I have to squeeze my workouts in before the sunshines or after it goes down. Today, I am going to yoga right after work and I will have literally 10 minutes to get from work, park, in the studio and on my mat. So I dressed for sweat and success and here is how it went down.

Base layer

Second layer

  • Brandy Melville high to low button down chiffon tank so that there is full donk coverage
  • Forever 21 pleather wanna be Member’s Only jacket (lined with leopard I may add, classssy)
  • H&M boat shoes as I needed flats to sprint into class

Grabbed my yoga mat and my computer and off to the 9 to 5 I went.

Truly looking forward to yoga tonight with one of my most favorite instructors of all time. At least I am dressed for the part, if I don’t make it, my living room and I have a date with Insanity.

Wearing workout clothes during the day is such a great idea!

    • Whit on August 1, 2012 at 5:21 pm

Alex it really helps you get to class, and if your work environment is stressful it is moisture wicking! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Sana on August 1, 2012 at 4:09 pm

I wear lulu almost all the time to class and to work. Super easy to dress up or down.

  3. RachelG on August 1, 2012 at 4:17 pm

I have done this SO MANY TIMES! It’s great in the Winter because I can wear my yoga pants (lulu what what!), a long sweater with my tank top under it, and boots. I can literally strip down from work mode to yoga mode in 60 seconds flat. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am actually about to go from work-from home (read work out clothes all day long!) to work in an office with a corporate dress code. While I have grown quite accustomed to the comfy-ness of yoga pants every day, I am looking forward to actually dressing up again- making professional clothes stylish!

  5. Lindsay on August 1, 2012 at 4:22 pm

While this is cute and looks comfy, it would never fly at my business casual work environment (a college).

    • Sejal M on August 9, 2012 at 3:30 pm

I was thinking the same thing.

  6. Michelle@Peachy Palate on August 1, 2012 at 4:38 pm

I need to treat myself to a lululemon goods! The postage is just so expensive to Ireland..I’d be better off treating myself to a holiday to the US and picking myself up some while I’m there!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

      doooooo it ๐Ÿ™‚

Cute post! If I could wear yoga pants every day, I would!!!

  8. Christine on August 1, 2012 at 4:39 pm

Um in what world are spandex business casual?

    • Amanda H on August 1, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Agreed! I could never, ever wear anything like this in my business casual office. Gotta say, I’m not loving these work/workout clothing posts, but guess it’s just not my style…

    • Alicia on August 1, 2012 at 5:02 pm

I was trying to figure out the same thing. I have no idea what sort of office/business you could wear the above outfit to. It is a cute outfit, but more for Saturday shopping!

    • Whit on August 1, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Every office is different but it works nicely in mine. And hey if it’s not for you, it’s not for you!

      • Jennie (in Wonderland) on August 1, 2012 at 8:46 pm

But it’s not that it’s not for “us”, it just might not be our boss’ liking. My boss wouldn’t be pleased if I wore yoga pants to the office. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Hope on August 1, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Yeah… not too sure about this one, especially as office wear.

  10. Julie on August 1, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Awesome layering. I need to do that as well, but my workout clothes are too fancy!

  11. Christina on August 1, 2012 at 5:57 pm

This is super cute! What a great idea!

If you can’t wear spandex in your office, maybe you could sub by throwing some light weight pants on over your wunder unders?

    Adorable outfit!

  12. Irene on August 1, 2012 at 6:13 pm

Lol – this would not be ok at my work and I work in a pretty casual environment. You are lucky if you can wear that to work!

  13. Emily on August 1, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I do this ALL the time! Layering is my best friend. (:
You’re adorable, by the way! I wish I could pull off bangs like that. So cute!

  14. Jennie (in Wonderland) on August 1, 2012 at 8:44 pm

This would never, ever be ok at my job. I’m envious, but I’m astonished this would be considered work-appropriate in any office!

    • Jennie (in Wonderland) on August 1, 2012 at 8:45 pm

I meant this in a nice way. I’m just shocked. Maybe Canadians are too formal, ha ha.

      • Sarah on August 16, 2012 at 8:33 pm

You’re not too formal at all! My office (in FL) would not consider this business-appropriate either. Maybe it’s a Tuscon thing.

  15. Ramani on August 1, 2012 at 9:15 pm

Every office is different and if this works in Whit’s office, then more power to her!

Off topic question: where do you live Whit? Tucson? Your apartment is lovely! (which is why I ask).

  16. Jackie on August 1, 2012 at 10:06 pm

I would think that if your work environment allows leggings, then the wunder unders would be just fine. And it really does truly depend on where you work…

    Love the look though ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy on August 1, 2012 at 10:31 pm

i think i live in my workout gear! this is a great way to spiff it up!

  18. chrissy on August 1, 2012 at 10:37 pm

oh my Gah this would not fly at my old job during the day! we could however have fun with makeup, liquid liner/neon nails/popp’n lip gloss/the works! however, if we stayed after 6 people like me would go workout and come back with lulu on and melted makeup and continue work in my office solo. if you ran into other coworkers in the hallways there was an unspoken rule not to look at booties or packages or get too close to your still sweatin stinky body:)

  19. Brittany on August 2, 2012 at 1:04 am

I want to invest in some lulu lemon gear. Which piece of clothing do you like the most and think would be a good investment?

    • Whit on August 2, 2012 at 2:39 pm

      Hi Brittany!

Totally depends. What kind of workouts do you do? I love love love my wunder unders for everything from yoga to running. If you give me a sense of your workouts I can point you in the right direction for your body type as well!

      xo

  20. marinka on August 2, 2012 at 4:34 am

This would be ok at my work I just don’t really have the need for it since I do yoga in the evening and work in the morning. I also like lululemon but before going to US I can just watch the clothes online. Way to expensive with the postage.

  21. mc on August 2, 2012 at 12:14 pm

This would totally work at my office!!! Thanks for the great idea – and for the intro to Brandy Melville ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Whit on August 2, 2012 at 2:39 pm

You’re so welcome. I am OBSESSED with Brandy Melville. It’s bad at this point. haha xo

  22. Liz on August 4, 2012 at 3:26 am

Just because you can wear it to work does not business casual make. If wearing yoga gear is an option for you, your office has a “casual” dress code. No ifs, ands, or buts.

  23. Amanda B. on August 4, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Such a cute outfit, and I bet you were so comfy! I could probably get away with this now on casual days, I love my wunder unders for fall layering. I have to agree with those that said this is definitely not “business” casual, but it is still cute and could fly in most casual offices I’ve worked in.

  24. Sarah on August 16, 2012 at 8:32 pm

I have to say that in my corner of the business world, this would not pass for business casual. My boss would probably send me home to change. And before you say anything, I’m a 23 year old recent college grad. (And btw, this wouldn’t have passed for business casual at the university I went to either!)
