Suitcase Roulette

When I pack for trips, it can go from one extreme to the other: super organized and planned to the last detail, or everything thrown in at the last minute when I realize I messed up my flight time and it’s 3 hours earlier.

If I’m traveling with Liv, our suitcase is planned to the “T” to make sure we have everything she needs. Food, water, changes of clothes, pajamas, bedding, bath stuff, toys, books, everrrryyyything. When it’s just me, things tend to be a little more.. relaxed.. which is the case with this trip.

A couple of non-workout outfits are planned:

Outfits 1 of 1

everything else is a pile of mostly Reebok goodies that will be rolled up and zipped into the suitcase. I tend to play suitcase roulette: reach into the suitcase and pray something matches.

Before my night of packing -or non-packing, rather- we all went out to Sauce for dinner.

I usually get the same thing:

a glass of Malbec,

the salmon and kale salad,

Kalesalmonsalad

and the gluten-free pizza with artichokes, portobello and chicken.

Pizza10

It’s one of those meals I could eat every single day.

One of the things I don’t really love about being on vacation is constantly going out to eat. I love the food we cook at home, it’s less expensive, and there’s always the novelty of eating in pajamas. Here I am, about to head off on a trip after pretty much a week of restaurant meals. (Minus the Pilot’s amazing shish kebob dinner.)

I’m going to miss Livi and the Pilot like crazy, but I’m definitely excited to see old blog friends, meet new ones, take amazing classes and catch up on some zzz’s.

See ya in Portland, and later today with a giveaway!

xoxo

Gina

Are you going to Portland OR? I live just south of there. You NEED to go to Prasad cafe in the Pearl District. It’s a wonderful little cafe attached to a beautiful yoga studio, and they have the most amazing, all organic food and smoothies to die for. When I went to Portland last, I went to Prasad for the first time, and didn’t want to eat anywhere else! I love Portland.

I’ve lived in Portland my whole life and never heard of this place. Definitely want to check it out!

I second your Prasad recommendation. I work a few blocks from that place and frequent it almost weekly. Portland is chalk full of amazing restaurants – it is sometimes hard to decide which ones to go to.

You’re coming to my town?! Yay!!! Portland is excited!

I was JUST in Portland last weekend!! We didn’t get to cross off all our food “must-see’s” (Screen Door & Pok Pok especially), but we did hit up Voodoo Doughnuts. So worth the wait – but, if you call ahead 24 hours, you don’t have to wait in line! If you have the chance, check it out. Indulging is all a part of healthy living, right?

    • Leanne on June 26, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Oh, and I had the BEST vanilla latte of my life @ Mother’s. Super cute restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Not sure how much free time you’ll have, but it’s worth checking out.

Packing for trips is the death of me. I definitely not the best packer in the world – though I wish I was.
Have a safe trip and have fun! Although, I’m certain you will it sounds like it will be great.

  6. Heather (Heather's Dish) on June 26, 2013 at 11:46 am

We’re the same way with our packing too – if Wes is coming we plan every single detail, but if it’s just me? Yeah…I never really know what I pack til I get there. It’s always a fun game to find an outfit 😉

  7. Laura on June 26, 2013 at 12:06 pm

Have a great trip! I tend to count out te right number of tops an bottoms and ignore if they match… Lol!

Have a great time in Portland! I love it when restaurants offer GF pizza options, I tend to always order that too when I’m out to eat. I just got back from a trip to New Orleans, and it’s been great eating at home again! So much cheaper and healthier, but eating all the New Orleans traditional food was fun too!

You are going to be in the pacific northwest! I live in Seattle and love the area. I haven’t made it down to Portland yet, but it’s on my list of to-do’s. I’ve been living in Seattle for just over a year and a half.

And, totally agree. That meal sounds PERFECT 🙂

  10. Jackie on June 26, 2013 at 12:41 pm

    That pizza looks AMAZING.

I’m actually the same when it comes to packing! It either has to be way in advance or last minute.

I also can totally relate to not liking being away from home and your kitchen for too long. There’s something so comforting about a home-cooked meal!

I hope you have a great time!

  16. Ashlee@HisnHers on June 26, 2013 at 2:20 pm

Have fun ! I’ve always wanted to visit Portland. At least you are going somewhere with a TON of amazing restaurants if you just have to eat out for a wek 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 26, 2013 at 6:39 pm

      it’s a tragedy, really 😉

  17. Lucie@FitSwissChick on June 26, 2013 at 3:35 pm

    Safe travels!! So jealous!!
I tend to grab a salad at a saladbar sometimes when I am on vacation and eat it in a park or even at the hotelroom 🙂 as nice as it is to eat out, I get fed up after 4 days in a row.
I always pack wayyyyy too much. And then I haven’t gor space for new things, ugh 🙂

  18. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on June 26, 2013 at 3:38 pm

Looks like a great last night with family before heading out of town for a few days.

Have a great time- can’t wait to hear the recaps 🙂

I love when restaurants offer GF pizza – I can’t resist ordering it just to actually have pizza for a day! Even if I want something else, I always end up ordering both and loving all the leftovers.

  20. CourtStar @ StarSystemz on June 26, 2013 at 6:18 pm

I LOVE exploring new restaurants although NOTHING + I mean NOTHING beats a home cooked meal! Have a safe and fabulous trip! Love + Shine CourtStar

  21. JessicaJ on June 26, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Let me just say that even though you have to eat out the whole week, in Portland you will have no problem finding fresh, healthy food 🙂

  22. Kim on June 26, 2013 at 9:11 pm

Oh – you are off to FitBlogin’?!
I thought I was going to get to go but my husband is off on a trip (and his is work) so I couldn’t go.
    Have a great time!!

  23. purelytwins on June 26, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Have so much fun at Fitbloggin! That’s on my list of conferences to get to eventually!

  25. Lauren @ Sassy Molassy on June 27, 2013 at 1:31 pm

I tend to over pack wanting to have the perfect outfit for every occasion, but in reality I end up wearing the few outfits I knew I would from the get go. And I always pack too many pairs of shoes. Have fun in Portland!

I second the Prasad (simply from what I’ve heard of it) and Mothers recommendations. Every single thing at Mother’s is amazing – cinnamon rolls, mimosas, coffee, pancakes, the decor, etc. Also love Henry’s Tavern for good drinks and a casual menu of all kinds of food – flatbread pizzas, salads, thai, burgers, etc.

  26. Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets on June 27, 2013 at 5:10 pm

Have an awesome time! I’m really excited to see your recaps of Portland.. I’ve always wanted to visit 🙂

  27. Christina on June 28, 2013 at 2:20 pm
