Blended Mexican Mocha (dairy-free)
Iโve been looking forward to todayโs post because Iโm always excited to spread the word about Fair Trade Month and share some awesome goodies with a lucky winner (giveaway has ended). But first, I have a recipe for a Blended Mexican Mocha!
Blended Mexican Mocha
I whipped this up using 3 popular Fair Trade ingredients: chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon.
(The drinking chocolate is out of control amazing.)
First, I made a 10-oz batch of Pura Vida coffee, and mixed in some drinking chocolate (which is like chocolate chips and melts beautifully into coffee or warmed milk for a hot chocolate), and added vanilla, cinnamon and a splash of sea salt. After cooling to room temperature, I placed it in the fridge to chill. After it was pretty cold, I added almond milk, ice cubes, and a kick of sweetness before blending it up.
The Pilot was happy to be my taste tester.
Hereโs the recipe if youโd like to give it a try!
PrintBlended Mexican Mocha (dairy-free)
A rich and chocolatey treat, which is also dairy free.
- Prep Time: 60
- Total Time: 1 hour
Ingredients
- 10 oz of your favorite coffee
- 3 tablespoons drinking chocolate (or dark chocolate chips)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of sea salt
- Splash of vanilla
- 1/2 cup milk of choice (I used almond)
- 6 ice cubes
- Sweetener to taste (sugar and maple syrup work well)
Instructions
- In a large glass, whisk the coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, sea salt, and vanilla. Set aside, and allow to cool to room temperature before storing in the fridge.
- When the coffee mixture has cooled (an hour or so), stir well to combine the ingredients.
- Pour the mixture into a high-speed blender, along with the milk and sweetener. Blend until frothy. Taste and add sweetener as necessary -I used 1 tablespoon of sugar for the Pilot and it was perfect- and serve immediately.
Notes
- Garnish with dairy-free whipped cream, chocolate shavings and cinnamon.

- Serving Size: 1
Why Fair Trade?
Iโve shared a couple of Fair Trade posts in the past. If youโre just becoming familiar with Fair Trade, hereโs some more info about this incredible organization:
-Certified Fair Trade products ensure that the people who work the craft, sew and grow these products are fairly compensated and able to work in safe conditions
-Theyโre able to earn extra money to provide for their families and communities
-These Community Development Premiums are invested in critical projects, like schools, wells and roads
-Fair Trade also encourages sustainable practices for the environment and restricts harmful pesticide use
-Child labor is prohibited
Basically, itโs a full circle of goodness:
Similar to previous posts, Fair Trade paired me with one of their famers as an opportunity to learn more.
Meet Komuhendo Jacqueline, an inspirational tea farmer & member of the Mpanga Growers Tea Factory in Uganda.
A little bit about her story:
Komuhendo Jacqueline and her family have been growing tea since 2009. She says that the biggest benefit to selling Fair Trade Certified tea is that it has enabled her to pay for school fees for 3 of her children. It has also enabled her family to start sustainable food security projects for their home that can continue for years to come. She hopes to sell more of her tea so that she can send her other 4 children to school.
Here she is carrying water back from the nearby well that was built with Fair Trade development premium funds, which provides access to closer clean water sources.
