Like it Raw

Hi friends Open-mouthed smile How are ya??

Iโ€™m late night blogging tonight Winking smile

After a long (but awesome) day at work, I came back to see the puppers, grab a snack and then met some lulu friends at Full Circle for yoga with Christine.

yoga

Iโ€™ve become obsessed with Full Circle the past month or so. Donโ€™t get me wrong, I still love power yoga, but the types of classes at Full Circle give you an awesome workout and reach deep into your soul at the same time. I like that. Whenever I leave the studio, I float Open-mouthed smile Christine led a beautiful practice and I learned a new arm balance. Baller.

After yoga, Erin and I decided to grab something to eat, so our first stop was Austinโ€™s Coffee.

austins

As much as I loveloved the funky dรฉcor and the vegan desserts were screaming my name, I wasnโ€™t too stoked about the menu. Soy everything and they were out of the vegan quiche.

So we went to Cafรฉ 118 instead Open-mouthed smile

orlando 006

Iโ€™ve been to 118 quite a few times โ€“it was opened by my raw culinary mentor and friend, Matthew Kenney– and was so excited to have it again.

We shared the macadamia hummus and red pepper crackers:

hummus

It was like buttah. Garlicky buttah <3

The crackers were awesome, too- I canโ€™t wait to use my dehydrator again!!!

For me entrรฉe, I rolled with the Mexican Taco Salad with cashew cheese, raw corn chips, salsa and guacamole.

salad

Done.

Ok, not quite doneโ€ฆ Iโ€™m pretty sure theyโ€™ll kick you out if you go to a raw restaurant and not get dessert. Winking smile

tart

Chocolate hazelnut tart. It was just as chocolaty and foodgasmic as it looks Winking smile

The thing I love the most about raw foods is the way I feel after eating them- never bloated or too stuffed. Juuuuuust right Winking smile I think that balancing salads and veggies with more nut-heavy dishes (like the tart) is a good way to go.

Look who joined us for dessert:

girls

Ashley!

So fun Open-mouthed smile

Well, Iโ€™m off to bed so I can gym it up before work. Hope you have a lovely night and Iโ€™ll see ya tomorrow!

xoxo,

Gina

Hey Gina! Perfect post to comment on and tell you that I am now a Lululemon educator! I just got the call today and am super excited to join the team ๐Ÿ˜€ …I also love the way raw food makes me feel and coincidentally, I have been trying to eat mostly raw the past week to see how I feel. So far amazing energy during my workouts and not much need for my usual daily coffee. I’ve been drinking tea instead just to have something warm and comforting.

    Love your blog!

You don’t need to tell me that about raw food ๐Ÿ˜‰ Since being pregnant I haven’t eaten as much raw food as I would have liked, and when I got back from our honeymoon in Thailand a few weeks back, after only eating mainly ethnic and cooked foods (other than copious amounts of fresh delicious fruits!) all my body craved was raw and wholefoods. Yep I feel so much lighter even after ‘indulging’ on raw foods. I just can’t do it 100%. Raw til dinner is good for me when I can do it.

I wish I could eat raw all the time! It’s just not possible at the sorority house.

  6. salah@myhealthiestlifestyle on December 4, 2010 at 2:06 am

looks like a lovely night!!! My body would be so thankful if I ate raw food all the time, but my pocketbook wouldn’t be so thankful b/c of all the equipment (dehydrator, vitamix, etc.) that I’d have to purchase in order to do it!

The food looks lovely – especially that chocolate hazelnut tart! ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks FABULOUS!!! And yes I agree, always eat nuts and denser raw stuff after or with salads and fresh veg. Much easier and lighter to digest.

    Yum!!

Looks lovely!! There’s a new raw restaurant in Toronto (about an hour from where I live) that I’d love to try but haven’t been there recently for long enough to go. Glad you had a fun night!

All the food looks marvy, but of course the dessert caught my attention! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Although I’ve never eaten a raw dish/at a raw restaurant (yeahhhh I live in southern Indiana. The raw movement would be very misunderstood around here.), I definitely agree with the idea of pairing veggies/salads/lighter main courses with a heavier “dessert.”

I do something like this almost every night – big salad with some egg whites for a little protein/substance, followed by a huge yogurt mess full of fun stuff like peanut butter, berries, cereals, cocoa powder… This way, I have something fun/sweet every night after dinner, but I’m not overdoing it on calories or end up feeling too full.

  20. Christine (The Raw Project) on December 4, 2010 at 11:53 am

Yum, the food looks wonderful and I’d love to try 118! Agreed about the feeling after most raw foods, not bloated or too full – just satisfied and a tummy at peace. ๐Ÿ™‚

Try “Drunken Monkey” on Bumby & Colonial. They have almond milk and even coconut milk and the most AMAZING assortment of homemade vegan/gluten-free/soy-free baked goods!

    • Krystina (Basil & Wine) on December 4, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Drunken Monkey is redunk. I love it.

      • Fitnessista on December 4, 2010 at 4:24 pm

I’ve eaten raw desserts on a regular basis for about nine months, and haven’t had a single baked cookie/cake/candy bar/etc. since I made the change. Even my husband is choosing raw desserts over cooked ones now! I bring raw desserts to most parties we go to, and (except for a few weird early experiments) they are always a hit.

It’s amazing how many types of yoga there are out there and once you find the one that fits you, you’re hooked!

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2010 at 4:25 pm

so true! i used to hate yoga until i discovered power and vinyasa

  25. ashley nicole on December 4, 2010 at 7:14 pm

hey girl! did you go to any raw restaurants when you lived in NC? i’m struggling to find one. thanks, love!!!

    • Fitnessista on December 5, 2010 at 9:12 am

pure food and wine is my fave!
also, check out caravan of dreams- it’s more casual but the food is wonderful

  26. Beth on December 5, 2010 at 1:01 pm

That restaurant looks amazing! I often wish we had a place like that here. I just came to the conclusion that I don’t use my dehydrator enough. I need to get on that… ๐Ÿ™‚
