Eggs in a Steamer Basket

Hiiiiii 😀 Happy Saturday! How’s your weekend going?

I’m home on my lunch break for a couple of minutes and wanted to say hi 🙂 I only have to work a short day since Mara is in town, so that’s very exciting. I got to see her for a little while last night, took her an eegee and she brought me the motherload of chocolate.

choc

She definitely knows me 😀

Some eats of the day:

Smooooothie- it’s all I want for bfast lately, which always happens in the summer
smoothie

2 organic plums taken to work

plums

[I ate one in between cardio/strength and Salsa]

and my newest favorite beast.

bast

While the tempeh bacon sizzled away to glory,

acon

I prepped the rest of the salad with avocado, local tomatoes, lemon juice, olive oil and red pepper flakes, and greens.

Side note: what the heck are these things?

greens

Somehow they never seem to make it into my salad and somehow the container is always full of these little bitter branch things at the end 😉

1 more to go!

zumba

Zumba: the more neon, the more legit. Haha.

Dinner and shenanigans with Mara tonight- can’t wait 🙂

See ya later with a fashion post <3

xoxo

Today’s tip: I’ve had hard-boiled eggs before, but have you ever had steamed eggs? I called my bro to ask him how long to boil the eggs for my salad –last time the yolk was a little undercooked- and he said that he steams them for 15 minutes. This was exciting news to me because I’m not a fan of fishing out the eggs from boiling hot water.

Just put them in the steamer basket and steamed away(covered)  for 15 minutes,

eggs

and they were PERFECT. Great cobb salad topper and also perfect for on-the-go snackage 🙂

This looks so yummy! I am starting out on my weight loss journey with about 15lbs that I would like to loose. Do you have any recommendations as to where to look to find out what I should be eating and how much (cals)?
    Thanks!

ya my Chinese aunt taught me about steaming the eggs in a rice cooker. it’s so convenient huh. you only need about 1 cup of water to steam it and it takes less than 10 min for me. it saves a lotta water! unless you reuse the boiling water for other stuff that is.

Zumba can only occur with multiple shades of neon! Gina, I have been following for-e-ver. I am so happy for you and the Pilot. I just started my own bloggy in the blogworld so come by and visit whenever you get some free time……You were my inspiration to start, so thank you!

Those chocolate bars are sooooo good. I ate my weight in chocolate when I was pregnant, and then some. Endangered Species was my fave. I ate a little at every meal. Crazy.

I always cook my eggs in a rice cooker. It’s way more convenient, except that you can only do 6 at once. It takes 24 minutes for 6 eggs in my cooker. I hate those things in salads!

tempeh bacon?! Is that pre-made or did you make it and How?! I am always looking for vegetarian alternatives that are still healthy and low in sodium!

    • Fitnessista on July 11, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Just steamed some eggs…perfect! Will definitely be doing this instead of boiling from now on!

  14. Heather on August 2, 2011 at 10:16 pm

I tried doing this – twice – and egg blasted in my hair when I squeezed to make sure that the egg was firm – what am I doing wrong? Is it 15 mins for 2 eggs only?

    • Fitnessista on August 2, 2011 at 10:22 pm

are you sure you’re steaming them correctly??

  15. Meaghan on August 5, 2011 at 12:26 pm

just steamed 3 eggs, perfectly! thanks for this great time!

  16. Meagan on March 11, 2013 at 11:44 pm

I do that to eggs all the time – they don’t get wet and it’s easier than hard boiling them, but yeilds the same result!

    1. Vosges is my FAVORITE !
    2. The bitter green branch is frisée. It’s tasty with all the rich, delicious foods (bacon, egg, cheese) that discount a salad fom being healthy. Doesn’t stop me!
