Gina: My second StitchFix
Lots of exciting goodies have arrived in the mail this weekโฆ.
between the moose munch,
Christmas gifts to wrap,
the new Zumba ZIN CD and DVD (new music!!!!)
and my newest Stitch Fix, I’m a pretty happy girl ๐
Last time I posted about Stitch Fix, a few friends asked if they’d mind if I posted my second one to get a better idea of what a box might look like.
Per usual, they included a fun goodie (a pen, which I always seem to be needing)
a pre-labeled bag to return the items I decide to send back (it’s USPS, so I’ll just put it in the mailbox. Easy peasy)
and gorgeous threads and accessories, picked out just for me.
From the left: an oversized cardigan, scalloped blouse, soft sweater, Zorro top (it ties at the bottom) and a multi-strand silver necklace.
Each item includes a large tag with ideas on how to wear the pieces, or pair with items you may already own:
This is especially helpful for me, because I’ll often restrain from buying something because I have no idea what to wear it with. I also tend to avoid clothes shopping with the little one. Trying anything on is always a bit of a gamble ๐
One of the most exciting things about what I’ve received so far is the fit. Pretty much everything has fit perfectly -you fill out a pretty intense style questionnaire when you first sign up- and it’s just a matter of decided what I’d like to keep. You pay for what you keep, send back the rest. Each “fix” includes a $20 styling fee, which can be used towards any items you decide to keep. If you purchase everything in your fix, you also get 25% off. (You can read more info about it in my previous post if you’d like to hear more! And just a heads up: this isn’t company-sponsored- I just love the concept and am happy to help spread the word. Here’s the link if you’d like to sign up.)
The problem with this one is that I’m having trouble deciding!
The oversized sweater: I like the print and fit, but it’s not something I would ever buy or pick out on my own. Maybe I should be a little adventurous? I always tend to stay away from Granpda sweaters for some reason or another
The scalloped blouse: probably won’t keep. I love the fit and fabric, but it comes up on the sides a little too high.ย
Soft sweater: keeper. It’s something I’ll wear a lot and will look great with jeans or colored denim.
Red blouse: on the fence. The fit, color and fabric is gorgeous, but I’m not sure how I feel about tying it at the bottom.
Necklace: winner.
What wintery staple are you loving right now? I’ve been getting a lot of use from my pink infinity scarf. Liv likes to tug on it, or snuggle up to it when I’m wearing her in the BabyHawk <3
I just got my first fix yesterday, inspired by your original post! I loved it, but only kept one thing for various reasons (price, fit, 2 things I loved were similar to items I already own). I definitely say rock the grandpa cardigan! I think it’s adorable! As far as the red top, if you aren’t comfortable with the tie at the bottom, you will probably always feel self-conscious about it and be fiddling with it… so maybe send it back?
Just my two cents!
Katie
yeah i think the red is def going back
Gina, I have a question: How much do the items typically cost? Like, general ballpark. I’m on a pretty tight budget right now — we’re looking to buy a house, we’re getting married in September…SIGH! But the reason I’m worried about trying this is losing $20 if I get the box and I have to send stuff back because it’s too much. I signed up online, and they do say that they will TRY to stay in your price range, but I’d like to know the typical cost of the items. If you don’t mind.
You pick a price range for different types of apparel. You can set a specific price range for tops, dresses, etc. There is a cheaper is better option, $50-100, and up from there.
thanks for answering this one- i was at work ๐
Just a heads up to those wondering how cheap they go — I did the ‘the cheaper the better’ option, expecting to get items under $50, since the next level up was $50-$100, but I got four $68 shirts. So I wonder if that’s as cheap as they go.
It was fun anticipating but on the whole it was a failure for me. I think I would do as well by going into Marshalls and going to my size and picking four items at random.
that’s too bad you weren’t a fan. for me the convenience is a huge lifesaver, but i agree that you could find most of the clothes at marshall’s or tj maxi
I love the idea of this company! It sounds awesome! I signed up after your last post about it, but am still waiting to here back from them. I hope they contact me soon! Thanks for sharing this!!
I first read about this on Eat Live Run and signed up immediately. I loved my first fix and kept three of five items… including a pair of black skinny jeans that fit perfectly (that saying something because I’m short and jeans are always too long).
I’m going to hold off on getting another fix as I recently found out I’m pregnant, but love seeing what others get in their boxes. Thanks for sharing!
I tried Stitchfix too, and thought I’d offer my opinion. It is a cool idea.
For some reason, however, the person styling me thought I would love dolman-style tops – I got three of them! They’re not really my thing. (When filing out the survey online afterwards I made sure to put this in the comments so they wouldn’t send me items like that in the future.) One of them seemed okay, but I held back from buying it because of the price. I did end up buying one item, the one non-dolman-style top they sent, but honestly, I just bought something so I wouldn’t waste the $20 I spent on the styling fee.
My main issue is with the price. These are not high-end designer pieces. I wasn’t blown away by the quality. I think I could find clothes with the same quality and style at a store like Marshalls for half the price. I know they’ve gotta make money somehow, but what I think they are doing is selling cute, stylish, but inexpensive clothes with a huge markup justified by the boutique styling service they offer. The styling fee is how they make money when you don’t buy the clothes with the huge markup, of course. However, for the price, I’d rather go out and buy clothing with similar quality for much less money at a store like Marshalls, OR spend the same amount of money on higher quality or designer items. The top that I ended up buying was $59 – it wouldn’t have cost more (and I wouldn’t have paid more) than $30 for it at any retail store.
It’s something that’s fun to try once, but I think if I’m really searching for style advice, I’d just ask some girlfriends or go to several stores with good customer service and get advice and opinions from the salespeople (and bring friends along for backup).
i totally agree about the price points and brand names. i feel like i’m paying for convenience more than anything though (and the styling help!)
I love the cream sweater and necklace! Good picks!
That top looks awesome with the necklace! Personally I think you should keep everything!
Just gave you $25! ๐
I signed up with your link last time you posted and am expecting my first fix the 2nd week in January. I love how you can select when you want a fix and how often. I challenged them to find me a casual but comfortable dress and can’t wait to see what they pick. Thank you for posting yours, it is fun to see what they come up with and how well it suits you based on your questionairre.
I loved reading about this concept in your first post and immediately signed up! Now I am just waiting to have time for the intense questionaire. Love seeing what you got in the second box. Can’t wait to get my own! Thanks for sharing.
Love the necklace! What a great idea, I need help putting pieces together. Tops I am good at, but bottoms I am horrific at. Thank you so much for the post.
Cute necklace! I need to try this sometime!
I love this company! I just posted my own review of my first box up yesterday because I was so in love with everything. Thanks for inspiring me to sign up! I couldn’t be happier with everything and love seeing what you got in yours. Keep the posts coming. I love that necklace. So awesome!
I got that sweater in my stitch fix box too!! I absolutely love it!!
***I should say the soft sweater. I wear it all the time! The grandpa sweater is pretty rockin too!
i love it too!
You’re smart to share this with us. You’ll have lots of $25.00 credits! ๐
I wouldnt keep the red top. If you’re that unsure of it, you’ll probably end up staring at it in the closet and choose something else over it. Or at least that’s what I’d do.
I think the grandpa sweater would be really cute on you. If nothing else, it’d be a comfy thing to wear around your house with leggings. Who knows? You may get comfortable enough with it to wear it out in public.
I like how your tops are. Did you choose “loose fit” in the option asking how you want them to fit? I don’t want anything tight.
thank you! i actually wore it out tonight and got a lot of compliments on it ๐ it was super warm and comfy, too
i did say that i liked looser fitting tops, i just feel more comfortable with that, especially since i usually wear skinny cut pants or leggings
I got my 2nd box a couple of weeks ago. Each time I’ve kept 2 of the 5 items. I think the prices are a bit expensive, but maybe I need to go on their site and select a lower price point. I am not very fashion inclined so this service has been really great for me. I get to try on clothes I probably wouldn’t even notice if I were out in a store shopping for myself.
I got the same cardigan in my Stitch Fix last week. I wasn’t going to keep it but my husband talked me into it, and I have to say–I love it!! I’ve worn it several times now, and it’s cute & comfy with leggings. ๐
This is such a cool idea! Just signed up ๐
I just got my 3rd Stitch Fix in the mail right after I posted on this blog. LOL. I got a red sweater that was perfect for the holidays and plan on wearing it for Christmas tomorrow. I took pics so I will post them on my blog!
I got my first “fix” 2 weeks ago, after I signed up from your first post about it. I actually kept 2 of the tops, I wanted to keep the scarf but it was $60 and I couldn’t justify spending that much on a scarf. I agree that it is a bit expensive for the quality, but what I loved: 1) convenience 2) I was sent things that I would not typically pick for myself, I ended up loving them! 3) It was like getting a present at my door ๐
same for me! the convenience is the best part and i’ve been able to try pieces that i’d never pick on my own
hey gina! i hope this isn’t asking too much, but would you mind telling me how much that cardigan is? i want to request it in my next stitch fix box but would like to know what i’m getting myself into ๐
the black and white one? i’m pretty sure it was 60.
yes the black and white one! thanks!
