Summer Fashion Faves

You hear that? It’s the sound of fashion crickets over here ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve missed the fashion page! It comes and goes depending on what’s going on. Things got really busy with Kyle and Meg’s wedding -maybe I’ll ask her to do a honeymoon/vacation fashion post!- and have finally settled into a summer groove. Summer is probably my favorite season when it comes to fashion: skirts, dresses, sandals, sunnies.. I love it all. I think it also helps that Tucson is super casual. Everyone is pretty much wearing flip flops and TOMs, and if you’re wearing a dress or skirt without a swimsuit underneath: you’re dressed up ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought I’d share some of my favorite things this summer:

1) Colored shorts. I like the white ones (Sanctuary brand) and both of the colored shorts are old from LOFT -they’re the perfect length/fit for me there. I especially love them with a striped tee, white lace tank or chambray blouse.

2) Maxi skirts. Basically, it’s a fancy version of sweatpants. I especially love this season’s printed variety:

3) ย Colorful sundresses:

I picked up both of these at “How Sweet it Was,” a vintage store on 4th ave. I used to shop there a LOT in high school and middle school, and it felt so nostalgic to go back and treasure hunt. I’m going to have them both hemmed, but at $9 and $22, the cost is still way less than buying new dresses. With a skinny belt and wedges, they’ll be perfect.

4) Bronzer and tinted balm. My makeup routine is fairly simple throughout the year, but even more so in the summer since anything will melt off my face in the Tucson heat. A little tinted SPF moisturizer, bronzer, lip balm, and I’m good to go.

5) Sandals.

My beloved Tory Burch sandals (bought them when Nordstrom had a huge shoe sale), T-straps (LOFT) and glitter (Target).

6) Printed and flowy button-up tanks:

Tanks 1 of 1

The mirror tank is an old one from HM, the geo print one is from Stitch Fix, the pink is Express.

7) Pleated skirts.

Shopping

(Livi is wearing a Diane von Furstenberg for baby gap wrap dress -the whole collection is on sale now!- and the best cheeser smile)

This is something I was afraid of trying, but thanks to my latest Stitch Fix box, I decided to give it a whirl. I find that I’m more comfortable in pleats with a cotton tank or blouse and sandals, instead of going the button up and heels route.

What are you loving this summer? Any trends you’re afraid to try? I’m still not sure how I feel about the printed silky pajama pants ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you have a great afternoon!

xoxo

Gina

I’ve been really enjoying more color in my wardrobe for the Summer. There’s something about putting on something bright that makes me feel a little brighter.
And I love the floral and tribal prints I’ve been seeing.
I’d say there’s a few fashion trends I’m intimidated with – like this whole sweat pant thing that is apparently coming back. No thank you;)

I’m loving bold colored shorts (J.Crew has ahhmazing ones!), gold and rose gold accessories, white on white, chunky mesh (loose knit) sweaters over tanks, and statement necklaces! I’m afraid to try a maxi skirt since I’m so short – but they’re adorable on you!

  3. Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat on July 10, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Love your style! I’m definitely a big fan of maxi and sun dresses. That’s pretty much what I live in during the summer. I’m also loving the bright colors and graphic prints this year.

for the past 9 months after having my little girl Ive been wearing sports bras and yoga pants. just recently I’ve started to actually get DRESSED in the morning/whenever I can, and it hasnt been anything fancy. If I WERE brave enough (I dont think I would be even pre-pregnancy, ha) I would try the adorable bustier top I’ve seen floating around. so cute.

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2013 at 9:11 pm

it’s funny how getting dressed becomes a rare surprise after you have a baby. after i had liv, i felt really great if i took a shower ๐Ÿ™‚ you get back in the hang of things, though!

Would you mind sharing your stitchfix prefrences/ cost range? You always get such cute things!

  8. Sara on July 10, 2013 at 10:17 pm

Way to go in the pleated skirt – super cute on you! I just can’t pull those off. But a maxi dress – I can rock one of those at all 5’2″ inches of me. Alas they all have to be hemmed!

  9. Amanda on July 10, 2013 at 11:04 pm

Fun post!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Which tinted moisturizer do you use?

  10. Alison on July 10, 2013 at 11:13 pm

You rock maxi skirts! I’m also a big fan of flowy sundresses and tanks. Comfort is just as important (if not more) as style to me, and those clothing items give me the best of both worlds! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Jillienne @ ChasingRaspberries on July 11, 2013 at 12:26 am

I love the pleated skirt! Was that a recent purchase? If so, what brand is it? ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Claudia on July 11, 2013 at 2:31 am

Which bronzer do you use? I’m looking for a new one, and the one you use looks like I should give it a try! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Lucie on July 11, 2013 at 2:34 am

Love the sandals!! I am so happy they are coming back in all these pretty styles. They are so office friendly and still casual.
I wear a lot of ‘chic’ shorts with blouses for the office, which is perfect beacuse I am cycling everyday. Skirts are more difficult on a bike ๐Ÿ™‚
But in my freetime you see me in my jeansshorts, flipflops and tanks – all the time.

  14. Danielle on July 11, 2013 at 7:41 am

I love all your picks! The colorful shorts are definitely taking over my closet this summer!

I totally want a maxi skirt! I am not fashionable at all, so I think I wanna start with one of those to pretend like I know what I’m doing! haha

  16. Mommaof3 on July 11, 2013 at 9:10 am

    Bronzer brand & store please?

  17. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on July 11, 2013 at 9:18 am

That last skirt looks so cute on you! Do you know what you put in your style profile quiz to be getting such awesome stuff? I’d love things like your two skirts but I’ve been totally striking out and just had to return my second box without getting anything. I’m wondering if I should increase my prices. I have everything at $50-$100 but I’m willing to go higher for things I’ll actually wear!

  18. Beverly Aragon on July 11, 2013 at 10:09 am

What great finds at the vintage store–love the yellow dress! It’s so perfectly summer ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Carrie on July 11, 2013 at 10:34 am

I love trying summer trends, especially if you live somewhere with a real winter, because everyone just does so much more in the summer time. However, being 21 weeks pregnant, my only trend at the moment is MAXI DRESSES. I’m getting sick of them since I’ve been wearing them since April, but they work.

  20. Amanda on July 11, 2013 at 10:44 am

I got the same maxi skirt in my stitchfix and kept it! I love it!!

  21. Lindsay @ Typically Late on July 11, 2013 at 11:09 am

I LOVE the colored shorts from LOFT! They generally have them every year, and they are the perfect length – short enough to be cute, but long enough to cover me like an adult ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Sophie @ life's philosophie on July 11, 2013 at 11:37 am

I love love love Loft shorts! And I just tried Stitch Fix! It was so fun to have someone do the shopping for you. And it definitely makes you try something out you might not normally wear. I’m scared to try a maxi skirt. Mostly because I’m worried I would trip on it…

  23. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on July 11, 2013 at 11:37 am

Oh I love summer fashion! I finally signed up for Gilt and it was a good/bad move. I got a really discounted DVF dress that I love! I’m also loving any type of sundress, wedges, big, colorful jewelry, colorful bags, straw hats. The list could go on and on! I love the Baby Gap dress and your Maxi skirt. Super cute!

  24. Claire @ Health Nut Claire on July 11, 2013 at 12:38 pm

I love love love maxi dresses and skirts during the summer! Also, my Tory sandals and Chacos!

  25. Lacey on July 11, 2013 at 1:30 pm

As I am 9 months prego these days, I’m really loving leggings and sundresses. I thought maxi dresses would be my go to, but I’ve found that I feel as big as a house unless they are fitted. Looking forward to meeting the baby (AND getting my body back)!!

  26. Mer on July 11, 2013 at 1:50 pm

Fun post! You always look great. Love your style!

  27. Tracy on July 11, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Yay a fashion post! Glad to see it back ๐Ÿ™‚

I love summer fashion best of all seasons, too. So easy and relaxed.

  28. Ashley on July 12, 2013 at 9:58 am

i absolutely love the maxi skirts this season, especially the one you have on in that picture!

  29. Andrea on July 18, 2013 at 9:42 am

Not to sound like a total weirdo, but I just realized I saw you in Voodoo donuts! I was in Portland for a teaching conference! I’m a newer reader, so I didn’t recognize you, but I loved your outfit and have been looking for that maxi skirt ever since. ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad to know where it’s from!
