Acai you, summer
Hi friends! Hope youโre having a lovely week. I had so much fun reading your comments yesterday. Glad Iโm not the only one who Googles everything all day long.
Summer is officially here!
Hereโs the girls on their first day of school,
and here they are yesterday!
I canโt believe how much theyโve grown and learned this year. We spent a majority of their school year with the Pilot away, and the girls still flourished even though we were all missing him. Iโm SO.EXCITED for summer. We have lots of fun stuff on the horizon: vacations, family bbqs, camps, swimming for hours each day, and the best part:
no alarms.
We made Liviโs lunch every day this year for school – she didnโt buy school lunch because a few moms have told me itโs horrible. It was a lot of mornings of rushing around the house, braiding hair, saying, โWeโre going to be late!โ at least 80 times, and racing out the door. Iโm not going to miss any of that haha. I feel so excited to have some time to slow down and enjoy the morning. Today, weโre off to the mall and heading to the pool when it warms up.
Yesterday was a low-key day. I was feeling significantly better from the cold, so I ran a couple of errands in the morning, then when P was done with school, we met up with friends for celebratory acai bowls and smoothies. We hung out in the courtyard for a bit, stopped into Mildred & Dildred, then came home for naptime.
Dinner was the classic Harney cobb: romaine, grilled chicken, turkey bacon, boiled egg, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, and Primal Kitchen Ranch.
Our lil veggie garden is flourishing, so Iโm looking forward to the day when we can step outside and gather the ingredients to make a salad.
Right now, we have basil, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, tomatoes, spinach, and arugula. I had planted rosemary and mint, too, but so many people on IG let me know that mint is best in its own pot or it will take over everything else. The zucchini is already going crazy!
I also planted some flowers by our succulents, and am shocked that theyโre still alive. The red flowering plant is a sun parasol and Iโd love to get a few more.
For today, Iโd love to know what youโre most excited about this summer. Any vacations planned? Also, Summer Shape Up will be here towards the end of June, so get ready for that. Iโll have some workout ideas you can do in the meantime up on Monday.
Have a great day and Iโll see ya in the morning with some faves.
xo

The first and last day pictures of the girls made me laugh. With my kids, I always had new, cute outfits for the first day of school and by the end of the year, I just was happy they were wearing cleanish clothes. My son is a senior in high school and has never, ever bought lunch at school. I would have been thrilled is he was willing to, but he always said the food was “gross”. And oddly, I did continue to pack it for him until about 2 months ago, when I finally said “you are 18, make it yourself!”
they’ve become sassier and more disheveled over time hahaha
i could see myself doing the same thing. the school lunches were incredible in san diego, and good in georgia, but not so good here
Great veggie garden! I need to start one! I am most looking forward to planning a girls’ trip with my friend who lives in AZ – I live in MD. We hardly ever get to see each other, so it’s long overdue! Have a great weekend, Gina & fam!
that sounds wonderful! hope you have a great weekend, too!
We are currently planning out summer vacation – it’ll just be a long weekend at a cabin on the lake and a trip to the zoo but it will be enough of a break and we are all looking forward to it.
I’ve noticed a few times now you mention Penelope taking a nap. Is this something new again (I thought she had stopped them or I’m remembering wrong) and does it help with the bedtime situation/routine? I don’t think our daughter is ready to drop a nap but getting her to stay in bed lately has been a chore.
that sounds perfect!
she’s on and off with the naps. i stopped making her take an official nap like last summer because she’d just get mad and would never stay in bed or her room. sometimes she REALLY needs it, so i’ll drive around until she falls asleep and put her on the couch. the good news is that one the days when she doesn’t nap, she goes to bed by 8, which is magical
I am most excited not to have to deal with alarms or carpool! Would love some suggested workouts I can pull off at home with the kids around this summer!
CARPOOL. so happy to not sit in that thing for at least 20 minutes a day
i’m going to do a review for les mills on demand for monday with a free month code- perfect for home workouts this summer!!
summer shape up starts in june, too ๐
