Market Sundays
Heyyyyy ๐ How are you? Hope youโve had a lovely and relaxing Sunday.
After I last said hello, we met up with Mara and her friend at our favorite farmerโs market. Weโre trying to show them all of the things we love in Tucson- itโs definitely a challenge to pack it all into a few days, so weโre rolling with the top choices ๐
Of course, we brought along this little thing, too ๐
She loves going to the farmerโs market and smelling new friends.
Per usual, there was an abundance of goodies including fresh-baked treats, local jams, jellies, honey, salsa, dips, organic meat and eggs, and beautiful organic produce.
I squealed a little when I saw the squash blossoms ๐
We grabbed a couple of things and tasted our way around, and the Pilot enjoyed his usual salteรฑa– a Bolivian pocket pie (similar to an empanada) stuffed with spices, organic chicken and veggies.
Looks deliciousโฆ the saltena looks nice too ๐
It was a gorgeous morning and we left just as it was starting to get too hot outside.
The goods:
2 gluten-free bars โone of which I recreated last weekend– a smoothie made with homemade quinoa milk (!), avocado, banana and blueberries [drank half and froze the rest to drink tomorrow] and of course, squash blossoms. I bet you can guess what the star of tonightโs dinner will be ๐
Time to get cookinโ!
See ya bright and early in the morning <3
xoxo
Gina
Something to do:
Take a few minutes before bed to stretch out your entire body. Hold each stretch for about 20 seconds to receive the maximum benefit:
I think itโs interesting that weโre one of the few animals who doesnโt stretch on a regular basis?
Bella stretches multiple times each day ๐
So true about stretching! And it looks like the Farmers market was a blast!
that last picture of bella is THE best.
i it when i’m doing yoga and my dog gets right beside me and does her best down dog : )
Aww bella is such a cutie! Makes me miss my pup!
What do squash blossoms taste like? How do you usually prepare them?
I love going to the farmer’s market on the weekends with my husband too! It is so much fun. I have same kind of dog as Bella. Her name is Emma…and she stretches ALL of the time! We always laugh at her for it. She also belches. Bella seems more ladylike than that though. ๐
Looks like the Farmer’s Market was a lot of fun!! Can you do a fashion post on your dress? I love it!
my dog is constantly stretching! haha. so cute. That quinoa milk smoothie sounds to die for! how was it?
and yay for farmer’s markets. They’re my happy place! ๐
I love this post! We are obsessed with our farmers market here in V-Town too. I blog about it a few times a week we go so often! Those squash blossoms look so very fresh and tender! I love to look at the heirloom tomatoes too.
Ps. you looked super cute in that little sun dress! I have been thinking of pulling out the summer dresses myself as of late!
pps, and that is why I do yoga. I am no where near disciplined enough to sit down and stretch. Another reason to miss dancing, right?
I’m really curious to see what you do with the zucchini blossoms! I saw some yesterday at the farmers market but I’ve never made em
I cant wait to see what you do with the squash blossoms they look great~!!
I’m loving how those heirloom tomatoes look! And your outfit is gorgeous ๐
thanks girl!
So, would quinoa milk be a non-soy dairy alternative that actually has… protein?!
yep! 1 serving has almost 3g of protein… amazing compared to the other non-soy dairy options!
I love to stretch in the morning and before I go to bed – and I love that little diagram that you have here — the little guy is so cute.
My grandmother used to always buy the squash blossoms, and while this is neither healthy nor vegan, stuff them with mozzarella cheese and anchovies, then put them in a batter and fry them. Completely italian. haha. But still pretty freaking good.
that sounds AMAZING
Oh I have the same question as Michele up there ^^ Would quinoa be a non-dairy non-soy milk that has protein?? Because as much as I like almond milk, it doesn’t have much protein…
I love our farmers market, but yours seems to have a much better variety of stuff. I’m a little jealous, not gonna lie. I can’t wait to see what you do with the squash blossoms. And that last pic of Bella is awesome — it looks like she’s singing opera while she stretches. ๐
That picture of Bella with her mouth open is freaky! She looks like she’s yelling!
And quinoa milk!? That sounds pretty epic
Haha, Bella is so cute. I love farmers markets, but I wish ours would let us bring our dogs.
I’ve never heard of squash blossoms before, but I can’t wait to see what you do with them. Super cute outfit…where did you get your sandals? Love them!
they’re from rack room shoes- oldies!
I’ve never put an avocado in a smoothie. What a good idea. I’m also interested to see what you do with the squash blossoms!
The farmer’s market makes me smile ๐
“She loves going to the farmerโs market and smelling new friends.”
That totally cracked me up!
Just started reading you blog – and I LOVE it! You’re just gorgeous! And your workouts and healthy eating are so motivating. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading! ๐
*your blog
thank you, diane! so nice to meet you ๐
Stretching is the ultimate body therapy. I do little stretches all day long! People probably think I’m strange when I randomly bend over in public, but I don’t care. Sometimes I just need that “ah” feeling! But what I need now is quinoa milk. That sounds ridiculously good.
By the way, I’m Jen! I recently found your blog, and have quickly become an avid follower. ๐
The squash blossoms look wonderful. As do your doggies. So cute ๐
Lovin’ the idea of bedtime stretches. So nice to streeeeetchhhhh before zzzz’s.
Have a wonderful week Gina ๐
I am SO jealous of your squash blossoms. I can’t wait to see what you end up doing with them. I’m hoping that the BF and I can hit up the farmer’s market in the city this Saturday so I can get my own squash blossoms. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll still have some.
Oh and I love it when cats and dogs stretch. BF’s dog (a German Shepherd) always stretching half-on/half-off the couch like she’s in downward dog pose. It’s hilarious.
Yawning is so contagious – the picture of Bella just made me yawn! Glad you are out of your “yuck-stomach” phase and feeling better. You make a very cute preggie. ๐
I think that all the time when I look at my dog stretching, who sersiously stretches at least 100 times a day!
Interesting on the zucchini blossoms, I’ve never tried them before and curious to see what you do.
Thank you for the stretching guide! I sit for long periods of time at my job & I get tightness & pain in my glutes. I only know of one stretch, but that isn’t cutting it. Do you have a few glute stretches I could do to get some relief during my ten hour work days? I would really appreciate it!
wow, man, that’s so cool with the squash blossoms…i had no idea you can eat them? so intrigued as to what you are going to make ๐ farmers markets are such a wonderful activity on leisurely weekends…your one in Tuscon looks fantatsic. Love all the mulit-tonal tomatoes, lol! ๐ xyx
Oh my, how I love a good stretch. We as humans, definitely do NOT stretch enough in a day much less in a lifetime. Just to think how much extra tension could be release with a quick ‘before bed’ strrrrretch ๐ I have said it before and I’ll say it again, Tucson has some kick butt farmer’s markets that make this girl a little jealous ๐
Have a wonderful day
I cant wait see what you do with the squash blossoms!!! Apparently my neighborhood is lacking in bees so all of my squash is not getting blossoms. Tons of blossoms and no squash:(
I never thought about how animals are stretching.. often. Stretching is definitely something I need to do way more of. Sadly.. by the time my workout is done.. I am ready to hit the road. I need to make myself stretch!
I need to get better at stretching. It’s definitely a part of my routine I tend to neglect. I’m so jealous of your farmer’s market! Ours is sad in comparison. No delicious treats to munch on and not neraly as great of produce selection. Can’t wait to see the recipe!
Oh man! I can’t wait to hit up our farmers market for fruits and veggies to make baby food!
Bella is a champion stretcher haha ๐ Love getting foods from the farmers market; always makes me feel healthier than buying from the grosh store (whether or not its legitimately healthier is debatable but I can roll with the placebo effect). Your cute lil’ flapper-esque dress – where’d you get it?
express- last summer
So true about stretching! I was pretty regular at yoga for about 4-5 months, and then just stopped….(I guess I got bored and moved onto swimming), but my body TOTALLY misses it and I know I need to get a least a little stretch in regularly!
Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you SO much for posting the stretching image!
I skipped the gym this morning because I am stiff and sore all over from too much weights, heavy climbing in Spin yesterday, etc. I wanted to do yoga tonight, but I have a feeling I won’t have enough time.
This little guide is perfect!!
I’m Jealous of your dry heat in Tucsun. In MN, we’ve had some swealtering weekends, but the addition of the humidity makes it tough to enjoy the summeryness!
What a great idea to do stretches before bed. I remember my grandfather would do a little stretch routine before getting in bed and after getting up. p.s. That ruffly dress is a great “maternity” dress, I can’t even tell you’re pregnant! You look amazing!
thank you , beth! ๐
What do you make with the squash blossoms? I have so many in my garden but didnt know you could cook them. Any meatless and eggless recipes?
meatless, yes- check out this morning’s post. instead of doing the egg wash, you could dip them in a flax egg (1 T flax meal dissolved in 3 T almond milk)
Those squash blossoms are gorgeous! I’ve never seen anything like that before! Can’t wait to see what you do with them ๐
HAHAHA! Classic pics of Bella! So cute! Whenever my dog goes into a short pause I always say “downward dog!” and she’ll jump up like I caught her doing something lol.
i say it to bell too- hoping i can teach her it’s a “trick” ๐
I love love love your dress!! ๐ Where did you find it?
thanks! express, but it was from last summer
Bella’s stretching faces are priceless!!
Olive stretches every time I get her harness and leash out. I think it’s so cute.
I loooooove saltenas! Unfortunately there is only ONE “hole in the wall” pizza shop owned by Bolivians that happens to make them on the weekends.
