Weekly goals + The Active Living Room
Hi! How’s your morning going? What a whirlwind weekend! It was jam-packed with so many fun activities and events. Thursday night, Livi and I went up to Anaheim, we spent all day Friday at Disneyland, drove back that night, and yesterday, we had an event with her school, I did a 10-miler (whoo!) and then headed to check out the event at Lorna Jane in La Jolla.
Even though I’ve heard of the fitness brand and have seen their gorgeous clothes out and about in the fitness world, I’ve never tried out the LJ apparel. I think that maybe I just get into my habits and shop in the same stores, and forget about expanding my athleticwear horizons. When Lorna Jane reached out to me about attending their event (and sharing some $50 gift cards to some local readers!), I knew I’d want to check it out. One thing that instantly stood out to me was the bright and vibrant color scheme of the apparel. I also noticed a common theme among the products and messaging throughout the store: inspiration, strength, and support for other women. It had a very “you go girl” vibe to it, which I loved. Anything that can help to make fitness fun, welcoming, and take the intimidation away is a friend of mine 😉 The atmosphere made me want to put on one of their brightly-colored outfits and run around La Jolla high-fiving people.
The Active Living Room offers cold-pressed juices
and daily complimentary fitness classes. In La Jolla, where fitness classes can be $$$, this is a fantastic way to serve the local fitness community.
At our location, they have Pilates, Zumba, barre, cardio and strength classes in a full-up studio, located in the rear of the store.
I got the chance to talk to quite a few people while I was there,
shopped with Kelli 🙂
and met Lorna Jane Clarkson, the woman behind the brand.
(She was very kind and lovely, as expected.)
It was a blast checking out the apparel, eating a mini cupcake,
and contemplating whether I should get a blowout from the Dry Bar girls set up in the shop. (I should have done it.)
I walked out with a great swag bag, pair of printed crops, a tank, and a complimentary copy of Lorna Jane’s book, More.
I devoured the book during Liv’s naptime. It’s an easy one to skim, and I can already tell I’ll be using it for recipe and life inspiration. While I was reading through it, I felt motivated to make little changes in my routine and life in the upcoming weeks. As things continue to normalize over here, I can initiate changes that can become a part of my life, or even remind myself of things I’d like to do (or not do!) more often. I really like how she stressed the importance of her daily rituals: every morning she wakes up at 5 to have alone time before the day truly begins. This is when she takes her dog for a walk, drinks tea, does yoga or gets in a workout, and then starts on emails and news catch-up. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been waking up earlier to get a start on life before the little one wakes up. I had a reaallllyyy hard time at first, but then I realized that I’m the same amount of tired whether I wake up early or whether I sleep until the baby monitor beckons. So, I might as well set the alarm and get my day started bright and early.
My goal for this week: walk Bella and Caro every day. We were in a good groove, but got out of the hang of it the past couple of weeks with the Pilot’s work schedule and my teaching schedule. Back on the wagon this week, as Bell is much less crazy when she gets in daily exercise. (Can’t blame her because I’m the same way.)
What small goal are you setting this week?
Any fun recipes or new fitness classes planned? I always love hearing what you’re up to!.
Have a happy Sunday and I’ll see you later with some weekend pics.
xoxo
Gina
Ohhh wow! The Active Living Room looks like a place I can enter and never want to leave!!!! WAY too much fun.
I LOVE your long skirt !! – Where did you get it ?
I also love your blog 🙂 THANKS !!
the fancy french store (tar jay)! here’s the link: http://bit.ly/RNuYex
thank you for reading!
tiny bit of advice- why don’t you include links to lorna jane store/company/book?
and 1 q – why are the cupcakes decorated like that?
looks like a great store, haven’t heard of it,
and love your skirt!
that was a fail on my part. i usually add links last and forget to add them last night.
i’m not sure what the circle design is, but the square is part of the brand logo
thank you!
thanks gina – god forbid i ‘m forced to google it on my own.
🙂
haha! no worries. sorry again that i spaced it 😉
Those are the famous Sprinkles cupcakes. The little circle on a circle is their signature topper. 🙂
That book sounds great! I might have to find one.
Recipe wise: I made the Italian Wonderpot this week and I might have a tip for you. The spinach is better folded in at the end rather than cooked in. The heat wilts it and it is fresher tasting to me than if it cooks for 15 – 20 mins.
Also, I tried your Lemon Strawberry bread. We all LOVED the flavor but mine fell apart in to more of a crumble which we ate in bowls. It could be because I swapped the banana out for apple sauce. My dad was here and he dislikes banana in baked stuff. It’s a yummy one through and its fresh strawberry season here in NC.
Loving all of your life tips. Oh, and I’m also getting up early now that it is light out and the day feels so much better when I do (after the first 5 minutes LOL)!
awesome, good to know! i was going to make it this week when my mom and nana are here, so i’ll definitely use your tip
so glad you liked the bread, even though it crumbled on you 😉
xoxox
This week I’m checking out Orange Therapy Fitness! Your Focus On post really inspired to me to give it a try, so thanks for introducing me to something to shake up my routine:)
I also find I do so much better during the day if I start my day with a bit of me time!
DUDE. let me know how you like it! i’m excited for you 🙂
i wish there was a place like that near me!!!
My goal this week is to make it to yoga (without baby) three times! I think it’s doable, I’m going today and looking forward to it!
wahoo! hope it goes well for you, mama 🙂
That is EXACTLY what I tell people when they tell me I am crazy for waking up so early to workout.
Whether your alarm goes off at 5am, or 9am, ya still never want it to go off! 🙂
🙂
OH MY GAH I am obsesssssedd with Lorna Jane! Good work by their real estate team to go RIGHT across the street from the lu.
brilliant move 😉
I’m up in north county and we just got a LJ at the mall in Escondido. I saw it last weekend but I guess I’ve been under a rock bc I had no idea what it was. Now I can’t wait to check it out…
did you have to evacuate last week? scary stuff.
and yes, let me know if you check it out 🙂 xoxo
We didn’t get evacuated but we were probably next in line…luckily they got it under control before that happened!
How fun! I love the inspirational saying on her apparel. This week for me is all about work life balance. I’m really struggling as I’m sure many others who working full-time jobs do. I have no me time. I need to figure out how to set boundaries more. I am already a ritual person. I get up to workout everyday at 5am. That me time before the craziness of the day begins. When I don’t do it, my day is never good. I’m disorganized and crazy.
I’ve never tried Lorna Jane activewear but I always wear bright workout clothing so I’m sure I’ll love it! I wish I had that active living room in my home!
I haven’t gone to any new fitness classes but I have been going to spin and hot yoga, which I love! I’m also planning to do more HIIT exercises during the week!
That Active Living Room looks amazing! What a cool atmosphere!
You look gorgeous! You’ve gotten so tan!
thank you! it’s nice to get some vitamin d 🙂
I really want to get back into the habit of having a quiet hour before Tripp wakes up. We had a rough month of 530/545 wakeups, but he’s settling back in and we actually had to wake him at 730 to leave for church today! *angels sing* Hopefully that continues and I can get up at 530 (or even 6!) and get my day going.
Looks like you’re having a great weekend. Happy Sunday! 🙂
thank you, friend! you too.
it’s harder to do it when they wake up early! did you get the ok to wake clock yet? it’s been a lifesaver
xoxo
No, he started sleeping later right after I reached my breaking point haha. We figured out (because he said “all done tripps bed”) that it was time for a big boy bed and that helped.
awesome! i’m glad he likes his big boy bed. i’m so happy liv likes hers, too!
That Active Living room sounds sooo nice. I love the bright colored shirts she sells!
Except for Sat and Sun, I always wake up at 5 too to do my meditation and my workout at the gym or Crossfit. It’s my perfect start into the day and it’s true – it doesn’t matter if at 5am or 7am.
Next week is benchmark week at Crossfit – omg, I am nervous, I hope I made some progress!
amazing! good luck!!
I am usually up between 4 and 5 am during the workweek to get in a workout and enjoy my coffee and breakfast in peace before my husband/daughters/dog get up. It’s kind of crazy to get to work at 8 and already be 3-4 hours into my day, but it’s nice to have that “me time” in the morning.
So this isn’t a new workout class, but I joined a crew team for the summer! I’ve never rowed before but have always wanted to try so I am stoked about this!
totally agree! it’s nice to have a little serenity before the chaos 😉
that sounds like SO much fun! i’ve always wanted to row, too. let me know how it goes!
That brand sounds genius! We don’t have anything quite like that out here, but it sounds awesome, especially the part with the dry bar + the complimentary fitness classes they have there!
I made the quinoa pancakes and they were amazing!! I added about 1/2 cup of oats to the recipe and then topped the pancake with some raspberry jam and agave. Best pancakes in my opinion.
so glad you liked them 🙂
Sounds like a fun time and those juices look so refreshing! I’m usually not at all a morning exerciser. The thought of getting up early to fit in my workout just naturally doesn’t get me excited. However, now that classes are over and I’m working full-time, my evenings would be freed up quite a bit if I did my workouts at 7 am instead of 5:30 after work. I think my goal for this week is to get up early for one Pure Barre class before work and see how it goes!
let me know how it goes! i find that i feel so much better for the day if i get in an early start. i usually don’t exercise until late afternoon (when tom is home to watch liv) but ideally, i’d love to work out in the am.
xoxo
My goal this week is to really take things ONE DAY AT A TIME. We are moving in 2.5 weeks and I have SO much to do in that time. I am just trying to take things as they come and do the best I can.
I ADORE Lorna Jane, the quality of the clothes, the positivity they bring to the fitness community, their motto of “move nourish believe,” and living an active, healthy life overall. I’m so glad you got to go to this because it looked like such a fun opportunity. I live in San Francisco so I couldn’t make it, but I have family in San Diego and I can’t wait to add visiting the LJ Active Living Room to my list of things to do when I go visit them this summer.
you will love it, especially if you’re already a long-time LJ fan. i can’t believe i just now tried out their gear. really loved the vibe of the store and company 🙂
xoxo
Love your skirt! All those adorable clothes make me wish I had a LJ around!
thank you! 🙂
Darn, I had hoped to go to the event and meet Lorna Jane (and maybe see you and Kelli!) but we ended up staying home in the hot desert this weekend (don’t ask me why!). I was at the grand opening and I really love the vibe there. I even took a class and bought a few things too.
That store looks awesome! I’m always looking for fun new tanks to workout in (and I’m not a fan of super fitted stretchy ones).
I have two small goals this week: #1 is to incorporate two good outdoor runs especially since the weather in Philly has been so nice lately and #2 complete a yoga class lol I really don’t like it but mostly because it always feels so hard so I tend to back out of a class before I even make it out the front door but I know I can make it!
I want to strength train 3x this week! Small goals!
I agree with what you wrote about waking up earlier. I am definitely tired when I wake up unless I sleep in until 10:00 (not an option, lol), so why not wake up at 5:00 and get a workout or walk in before the day gets going? An extra 45 min of sleep rarely does anything for me, but a quick workout can do wonders. I’m sure it’s different for different people..
My goal is to wake up early-ish and do some yoga before work at least 2 times this week! It always energizes me so much 🙂 I love all the colorful stuff at LJ! I am getting a standing work station next month, so I’m getting excited to not sit so much at work!
Disney looked awesome and so sunny! Here in Kansas City we just had a crazy frost, in May- I thought it was almost summer…
I’m from Brisbane Australia where Lorna Jane began! I love the photo of you with Lorna Jane – my two favourite fitness people!
I have a lot of LJ clothes – they are well made, good quality and they last! Not to mention the bright colours.
I hope you have a lovely week with your family visiting. Oh and yay for now living so close to Disneyland! 🙂
I like that there were cupcakes at the reception, a nice way to know that they are about “keeping it real”.
This looks awesome, Gina! I’ve been following Lorna Jane on Instagram for a while now and I really, really hope they expand up to Canada soon because I love everything about the brand! This week my smart goal is going to be spending at least 30 minutes per night before bed doing something that doesn’t have to do with electronic devices – no phone, no laptop. I’ve been feeling far too connected lately and want to have a little bit of unplugged time each day to help me unwind. 🙂
I get up at 4:45 every day to enjoy my quiet house before the troops get up. I love that time of day!
My goal for the week is to survive this last crazy week of school for my kids. Can’t wait! Only 3 more days 🙂
I get up at 6 to get ready for work before the babe wakes up (usually/hopefully around 7). I really want to start getting up early enough for workouts in the morning because it’s so hard to motivate myself in the evening, but her sleep schedule is still so inconsistent + I’m breastfeeding so I’d definitely have to pump beforehand or…ouch. For now, I’m trying to just be kind to myself as we continue to figure out life as a family of 3 🙂
Love your maxi skirt! Soooo cute, I’m totally into them this summer. Let me know how the fit is for the tanks, I would love to order a few, they are super cute. I like a work out top that isn’t too tight and is very soft but covers the “nether” regions as I don’t want exposure in my tight pants. Lol
You’ve gotta love when a book inspires you to make a change in your life, whether small or large. I’m bummed that there aren’t any LJ stores in my area (Northeast). I’ve definitely checked out their stuff online.
My small goal this week is to make sure I portion my schoolwork over the week instead of leaving it all to the weekend. I’m much less stressed when I do it that way and work is already going to be quite crazy this week. Thank goodness for a long weekend coming up!
Love that apparel! I love any fitness apparel with motivational phrases on them (especially fun tanks like that!).
My goal for the week is to squeeze in yoga twice. I am great about other workouts, but I’ve been so stressed lately and nothing cleanses and rejuvenates my soul like yoga.
I’m in the midst of an international move while still working full time & doing the family thing. I’m struggling to fit in my workouts. Normally, I get up at 5 to sneak it in. I’m hoping that by stopping work soon & school getting out, the stress level will ease up a bit. My goal each day is to just fit some sort of exercise in, even if it’s only a quick run on the treadmill.
I love the inspirational saying on her apparel. I want all of them! My small goal this week is to wake up early and workout before work.
