Friday Faves

Hi! Happy Friday! Any fun plans this weekend?

We have company this weekend: our friend (and Livi’s Tucson baby sitter) is here staying with us 🙂 She got in yesterday and we’re so excited to show her around. First on the list was takeout from OB Noodle House.

Necessary.

Some faves from the week and around the web:

-Summer Shape Up starts ONE WEEK FROM MONDAY. Mark your calendars! Anne and I will be providing free nutrition and fitness plans for the month, along with some seriously awesome prizes and giveaways. Stay tuned for more details!

-The Mad Beet. I met Kelli for a juice date the other night, and was kind of overwhelmed by the amazing menu.

Since I’d already had two juices that day (oops haha), I decided to have dessert instead: this concoction with almond milk, banana, peanut butter, and nutella. I can’t even explain how delicious it was.

20 habits of highly authentic people.

-Summer shoes that will make you excited to run.

Olivia Pope wine glasses. The Scandal return cannot come soon enough.

-Back to Orangetheory! I took some time off because I didn’t want to overdo it before the half, and it felt great to get back into it.

Why you should throw away your scale

Surprising workout tips.

30 commonly mispronounced food words and how to say them. I’ll never have to call worcestershire sauce “worst sauce” again. 😉

These Lucy barre socks. They’ve become my standard for classes; I love the Mary Jane-esque strap they’re very comfortable.

-National Donut Day! If you’re celebrating and would like a gluten-free option, check out my friend Ashley’s blog. She has a ton of amazing recipes and a book with gluten-free, vegan donut recipes.

That juice looks amazing! I need some in my life!

I also came across that food list earlier this week! We have a city named Worcester here in Massachusetts, so everyone here pronounces it correctly (and you know who’s not from around here by the way they pronounce it). We also have a Gloucester, pronounced glaw-ster. Or, with a true accent, glaw-stah. 😉 Do you not like Worcestershire sauce?! I love it! When used appropriately, of course.
Thanks for the GF donut link! I was never much of a donut person in my pre-gf days, but now that I can’t have them, of course I want them! Have a great weekend!

    I need that shake now!

  4. Brynn on June 6, 2014 at 8:40 am

Between that shake and donuts it’s sure to be a good day! I’m excited for the weekend because I’m having tons of girl time and a slumber party (yes, 30 year olds still have slumber parties!).

So good! We were visiting PB from Arizona last week and found ourselves at the Mad Beet. I had the Blackebr-Ray Charles and it was the first time since I was 4-ish that I’ve enjoyed anything with beets! 🙂

Love me some worsh-sha-shire shauce! 😉

I love the article about ditching the scale. I’ll be 30 in November, and I have NEVER owned a scale or lived in a house with one. I was lucky to grown up with a mother who never mentioned her body, weight, or size around me. (Looking back I’m sure she had her issues just like everyone, but she made certain that I didn’t hear these insecurities.) There wasn’t a scale in my house, and I never really knew what I weighted. Same in college. Five years ago when I became slight overweight (thanks to a new love/future husband and lots of eating out!), I joined a gym and started working out. I was lucky to find a trainer who didn’t believe that daily weigh-ins were necessary or healthy. When I committed to losing weight and started a weight loss/fitness program, I weighed in once a week. Periodically my husband will mention getting a scale for the house and how comparing my weight will let me know if I’ve lost some weight, and I refuse to get one. I know whether I’ve lost or gained weight without looking at a number. I can tell by how I feel, how my clothes fit and how I look in the mirror. I know that seeing a number on a daily basis isn’t important. And I also know, from those rare occasions when I do get on a scale, that often times the number is higher than I want, and it immediately depresses me and makes me feel like I’ve not accomplished as much as I thought I had 30 seconds before knowing the weight.

Haha! I love the “Olivia Pope” wine glasses!! I kid you not, I bought some wine glasses similar to those so I could play Olivia Pope while drinking wine 🙂

When is the Scandal return? Can’t wait!!! I guess Kerry W deserves time to have her baby 😉

Ummm “gnocchi” definitely needs to be added to that food list

  11. Michele @ paleorunningmomma on June 6, 2014 at 11:44 am

Those juices looks incredible! I’m a huge supporter of trash your scale – why do we need to measure it anyway? I haven’t weighed myself in a long time but now MY HUSBAND is the one who can’t officially let the darn thing go (and he’s plenty thin). Who knew!

      Oi, stupid iPhone.

My friend has those Olivia Pope wine glasses! Ahh I love Scandal.

And I’m going to a Rick Springfield concert tonight. I’m pretty excited, it’s my first 80s concert!

A fave of mine is when you post about delicious San Diego food/beverage spots! I keep telling the husband we have to go to them when we are there in July and he gently reminds me that we’ll only be there for 4 days, lol!

My friends and I were just talking about ditching our scales last night after Zumba. I get way too obsessed with the number, even when I know it goes up because of muscle that I’ve gained. Every once and a while I’ll weigh myself but for the most part I focus on how my clothes fit.

This weekend I’m looking forward to celebrating my bday with a visit to several CT vineyards with friends, one of which is 5 minutes from my house. 🙂

You should definitely go to Donut Bar downtown to celebrate donut day. Check their instagram or facebook for the menu…but get their early because they usually sell out by 11.

I love the post about authentic people. It made me think of my Dad!

I’m headed to Park City for my first blogging retreat. I’m so excited!!!

That pho looks so good! I don’t care if it’s scorching hot outside, I will always enjoy a bowl of pho!

Love those juice names! Whiz-Kha-Leaf-A sounds good!

  18. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit on June 6, 2014 at 3:10 pm

The names of those smoothies are hilarious and I need one of those concoctions – stat – nutella? OMG!

  19. Jackie on June 6, 2014 at 4:54 pm

    Omg that smoothie…..

  20. Emily on June 6, 2014 at 7:05 pm

Just what the pilot ordered-national donut day! Our neighbor at the Oakwood apartments would pay him with a box of donuts. This is from the mil.

  22. Laura B @ FitMamaLove on June 6, 2014 at 9:30 pm

OMG, that smoothie or whatever it is looks amazing! And the pho too. But too hot for pho! Maybe… I love it so much it might be possible to eat in any weather. Happy weekend!

  23. Paige on June 7, 2014 at 12:17 am

Yea for Summer Shape!! Been waiting and watching for it to begin. My ladies exercise group did Winter Shape Up and loved it. Nice mixture of cardio/weights and in a short amount of time.

  24. Pua on June 7, 2014 at 2:11 am

I am beyond excited for the Summer Shapeup! This will be my third time and I love it every time, but this year I’ll have to make some adjustments (being pregnant and all).

As hot as it is in my area, you seriously make me want to try pho!

  25. Gretchen on June 7, 2014 at 11:16 am

Please don’t believe most of that list of food pronunciations. Especially almost all of the French words. So wrong.

    Have a great weekend! 🙂

  26. Jessie on June 7, 2014 at 2:57 pm

So excited for summer shape up! I am trying so hard not to care about the scale as well, on my last visit to the doctor, I told them I didn’t want to know, got on the scale facing away from the number. I still have no idea…. because no matter what the number is, it is going to make me feel awful. I know I’m getting stronger/faster/more agile, that’s all that matters to me. 🙂

Thank you for being such an inspiration!

  27. emily @ emky shop on June 8, 2014 at 2:59 pm

Oooohhh I’ve never tried that juice spot, I’ll have to check it out. Looks awesome!
