About and out
After last blogging about living in cave mode,
we were out and about all day today… and it was glorious.
I packed up a little breakfast
(nothing like a turkey sandwich in the morning)
and we went to the squadron to say hi,
2 doctor appointments,
a lab appointment
and back home to free Miss Bell.
She always gets a little antsy when she stays home all day, so we took her on a little walk around the neighborhood to shake her legs out.
We walked 2 streets down and back… plenty for me right now 😉
Some eats:
I am obsessed with these chocolate-covered acai berries from Costco. There’s a giant bag in the pantry and my hand can usually be found in it…
dinner and a movie, courtesy of our neighbors.
Not sure if the movie will happen, but dinner was fantastic: salad with apples, pecans, goat cheese and vinaigrette, paired with shrimp that the madre left in our fridge, along with copious groceries. If we’re going to be in a cave mode, we’re well-prepared 😉 Non cave dwellers, what are you up to this weekend?
Hope you’re having a great night! <3
xoxo
Gina
Today’s tip: Being present and higher concentration will yield better results. Instead of just going through the motions during your next workout, take time to really focus on the muscle group you’re working. A British study found that by concentrating on the specific muscle during work, you can increase muscle fiber activation. For example, while you’re doing a bicep curl, picture the muscle in your mind as you flex and extend. More bang for your workout buck!
Zumba song of the day: “Taboo” Don Omar. I’ve had this one of the playlist since summer… and still love it.
*Thank you guys for being patient and hanging out with me this week while we’ve been getting to know our newest family member. Blogging has been random as we settle into things and start to get into a routine, but every day it’s getting a little easier. Sleep deprivation is no joke, but it’s 100% worth it, and I’m very thankful to have the Pilot and our Tucson family helping us out and savoring all of the moments.
Lots of fun stuff in the mix for next week, including Winter Shape Up 2012, which starts on Monday. Super excited for this one 🙂
ahh your family is so beautiful <3
Looking good, mama! My first walk was around the block, and it felt like a mile. 🙂 Hope you are feeling okay – those first few weeks can be tough!
I had a sample (or 2…or 3) of the dark chic acai. SO good!! Love the family pic.
Don’t apologize for the spordaic blogging! I feel like I don’t blog enough…and I have no excuse. In fact, I was thinking the other day: “If Gina can blog right after having her BABY…I can get off my but and do it sans baby!” You’re doing great 🙂
You guys are so lucky to have so many friends and family members help you with the meals to make this transition so much easier 🙂 You are truly loved and it’s obvious!
you look great, dear! and you both look so dang happy!
enjoy this time of getting to know and getting routine… every wonderful minute!
we’re delirious and sleep-deprived, but couldn’t be happier 🙂
You guys make the sweetest family!
AND the blogosphere can wait while you get in the groove of being a mama. The first few weeks are challenging enough without you feeling that pressure 🙂 I think everyone loves you enough to stick around while you adjust and those that don’t … good riddance. Keep doing what you’re doing because it’s great and more than most. These moments with your baby are fleeting … savor them! The newborn stage is gone in an instant. I realized the other day that my 3 month old is now a baby and not a newborn. Missing those chest snuggles right about now 😉
I must say that I’m incredibly impressed with your food choices since Olivia’s birth. I find that the more time I spend at home, the poorer my food choices get despite being surrounded by healthy groceries. Props to you! You definitely don’t look like you had a baby a few days ago! 😀
OMG I LOVE those choc covered acai/blueberries !! My hand can always be found in the bag too, haha (:
I bought those chocolate covered acai berries awhile ago. Man….they were tasty. Maybe I should go buy more….. 🙂
yes you should 😉
You two are the cutest new parents ever! I am impressed that you even made it that far walking. And I totally do the same thing, things like turkey sandwiches for breakfast 🙂
This weekend I am getting a new couch and running 9.5 miles. I hope the couch is here for me to collaps on when I get back from my run… 🙂
Your family is beautiful! So incredibly happy for you and all you have to look forward to! And props to you for getting out of the house to get some fresh air, that’s got to be hard to do right now!
I’m so excited for this weekend! My boyfriend just surprised me with a trip to DC for the holiday and we leave tomorrow so I have to pack and get everything ready ASAP!
Beautiful, beautiful family. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Much love!
Now that my Lucy is 9 months old, I miss Cave Mode! Sounds like you’re soaking it up which is so great.
And glad to hear your blogging is random…as it should be! Kisses to the babe!
I move back to da CUSE tomorrow! Majorly excited. Aaaaand there’s a home game in order, 6pm. Cuse basketball FTW.
You three (excuse me FOUR, Bells) are so stinkin cute. I think we need more baby pictures, don’t you? 😉
I love the family pic!! Beautiful!!
It’s so different leaving as three people instead of two. I know you love that girl with all your heart and soul. Anyone who follows your blog closely enough to care about how far you go between posts knows that you need this time to bond as a family. No judging. Enjoy!
The days are long, but the years are short.
You guys are so cute! Congratulations!! She’s just beautiful.
Don’t you just want to scream “FREEDOM” as soon as you set foot out of the house? I remember that feeling and the first time I was allowed to drive again was bliss 🙂 I’m glad that Miss Bella got some leg stretching in 🙂
The fact that you’re out and about with a 4 day old or whatever she is…is amazing!
I left the house for like 15-20 minutes a few times when my daughter was first born and she wasn’t with me, but we never “went anywhere” until she was maybe 2-3 weeks old? We did do some family walks but like a half hour but nothing formal like going here and there and out and around town.
I am impressed that you’re comfortable enough with nursing assuming you are, and that she’s cool with it all, and you’re adapting so well to the new angel in your life…that’s awesome!
Ah Zouk Lambada! My favourite partner dance. I will play this loudly to my niece and hopefully save her from her addiction to whatever god-awful thing J-Lo did to this classic. This version totally redeems it.
How are you feeling though, apart from tired? Making a fast recovery?
You guys are the cutest family in the whole world. I am so glad that you have people around you to help out! I have really been taking your fitness tip to heart lately, and it really works!!
You have a beautiful family Gina! Congrats on the new little bundle!
The chocolate covered acai berries are divine! Yum yum!
You guys look great! I know what you mean about the movie maybe not happening – if I’m sleep deprived and you put a movie on I’m just going to fall asleep haha!
Loving any snippet of life with a newborn you put up! Thanks for sharing & love your positive attitude about any of the tough stuff! Gives us mums-to-be hope 🙂
You all look so happy..what a beautiful family you have 🙂 We definitely can wait while you recuperate and get to know miss Olivia!
Love the family pic! Even tho you saved u are sleep deprived, you look great!
Your little family is so beautiful and motherhood suits you well! 🙂 Lately, I’ve actually been obsessed with Brookside’s Chocolate Covered Pomegranates. So good!
My husband is obsessed with those chocolate covered acai berries. He also loves the cranberries. I don’t care how many he buys, as long as he puts them on the top shelf, out of MY reach!
Those berries sound delicious – and your evening salad looks great too! Glad all is going well – you really are so lucky having your family close.
I like the quote on being conscious when exercising. Reminds me of Jillian Michael’s telling people not to phone it in! It also fits in quite nicely with how I run – I run in silence; no music, no talking – and I picture how it’s helping my body and I feel it in my lungs too. I find the more I am thinking about what I’m actually doing, the better my alignment etc is.
Have a great weekend!
You look beautiful… Sleep deprevation and all 🙂 So glad that your recovery seems to be going great.
Can’t wait for Winter Shape Up. I’m 33 weeks but hopefully I can modify the workouts as needed.
I love the picture of you, your husband, the baby and Belle! You all look so happy!! 🙂
Hope your all doing well and that you have an amazing weekend!
Congratulations! It must’ve been nice to get out and about for a little bit. I really respect that you’re focusing on family and not on blogging. Take your time with blog posts 🙂
I’m so happy for you all. How is Bella adjusting? I know your mom is over the moon.
I saw another brand of those berries somewhere: need to go back and get them.
You guys look like tired, happy, new parents 😉 It’s a good thing! I had my baby girl 8 months ago and even though she was easy, it was still TOUGH. I think around 10 weeks she got more mellow, and then it just got better and easier from there – more predictable, and less zero-to-sixty-random-freakouts. We’re still not sleeping through the night but you truly get used to it (breastfeeding + co-sleeping make it way easier). Also, breastfeeding gets easier and more smooth. In hindsight, I wish I relaxed more about long nursing sessions — I do think it is the body’s way of making Mom rest too. Try to figure out side-laying in bed — it’s WONDERFUL for taking a 5 min. power nap. I think it might be easier to do w/head control but we still did it a lot in the early days.
PS – make sure you record her crying — sounds crazy but that newborn cry goes away around 3 months and you’ll miss it (sort of!).
PPS – before you’re left alone with the baby, make sure you do some dry runs leaving the house without your husband. My husband was able to be home with us for 4 months but when he left some days it was like “how do I do this?!”
LOVE those chocolate covered acai berries!!!
Yes, it is the best to have a wonderful support system to help you out! Take advantage of that! They can spend time with little Olivia while you and Tom can get a nap in here and there. How is sweet little Bella doing with her new sister?
Congratulations on getting to know your new family 🙂 If you didnt get to watch the movie I just watched it on a plane and it was a nice little film 😉
Glad you were able to get out of the house — I hear that can be sort of difficult with a newborn… 🙂
Gina, you guys look amazing! So happy with that overtired but thrilled new baby glow 🙂
How’s Bella handling her new sister? It’s awesome that you are still making sure Bell gets her time with you guys so she won’t feel neglected. Can’t wait to see more pictures of your beautiful baby girl!
you and your little family are so cute! i’m glad you were able to go on a family walk. i’m sure bella loved that too.
p.s. i’m in love with those chocolate-covered acai berries too!! so addicting!
You look great. Hang in there, the sleep deprivation gets better and the breastfeeding gets more efficient as baby gets stronger (I have a 16 week old little boy). Oh and don’t worry about the blog too much right now, your loyal readers will understand…Cherish each and every moment right now, they go by so fast.
You look great already – sleep deprivation and all. 😉 It’s definitely a process to adjust with a new baby and to be honest, I think it’s amazing that you are still blogging during this week!! That’s dedication. 🙂
I just read over the 2011 Winter Shape Up and…OMG! I’m ready to start running in place I’m so excited! 🙂
It is so inspirational to see you keeping up your great, clean eats and even being active less than a week after childbirth. I hope you are proud of yourself because you rock!!! You family looks adorable!! Can’t wait for WSU 2012!!!
Embrace the cave mode and get your rest! You’ll be out and about soon enough.
You’re doing great! I’m impressed that you’re still blogging! You guys look so happy, it makes my heart melt 🙂
What a beautiful little family you have! Keep up the good work.
loving all your updates! thanks for keeping us in the loop. glad the bella baby seems to be adjusting well too! happy weekend to you & your beautiful family!
