Ask and ye shall [not] receive
Hi friends <3 How are ya? Hope you’re having a wonderful day.
It was kind of a blah morning over here. A potential book deal that’s been in the works fell through (if anyone knows how I can gain *expert* status as a military wife, please share the secret with me), so I think I’m going to put it on hold again for a while. I didn’t write that it was actually a possibility because I didn’t want to jinx it and then find out that it wasn’t going to happen.. and that’s exactly how it went down [literally]. I’ve been cautiously optimistic about the whole thing, but it looks like I’ll need to keep trucking along. I’m going to wait a while before trying again because it’s defeating to write new book proposals and then have them turn into just another random file on my computer [I’ve written 3 different ones].
I just have a feeling that something else is supposed to happen, so I just need to figure out what it is, and in the meantime am just going to continue to focus on making this little blog as amazeballz as possible, because that’s what brings me joy <3
I went to meander around two of my favorite stores:
Pier 1 and World Market 🙂
I just love walking around to get ideas for the casa –especially since we have a nursery, office and little girl’s room to decorate- and at World Market, I also think it’s fun to check out the international foods.
If I ever need a small jar of clotted cream or some lobster pate, I know where to go 😉
I was also on a mission for pumpkin –none at Target or any of the close by grocery stores- but the closet thing I found was this:
pumpkin chips.
I’ll take it 😀
Even though was kind of full from pumpkin chips –which are fantastic, btw. Just pumpkin, canola oil and sea salt- I figured I needed to have a *real* meal for lunch, so made a massaged kale salad beast.
Per usual, I sang to the kale. It makes it taste better 🙂
Today’s song of choice was “Sweet Kale of Mine” {tune of “Sweet Child of Mine.” I am a giant nerd. Especially since I don’t know all the words to “Sweet Child of Mine” so I was making the whole thing up}
Bella judged me.
And then I gave her a few chickpeas and she thought I was cool again 😉
Bella LOVES fruits and veggies.. it cracks me up. Actually, she just likes people food. If I were eating a shoe, she would be begging for a scrap.
Of course, some things are not safe for dogs (like grapes, tomatoes, kidney beans and onions), but she absolutely goes crazy for watermelon, strawberries, peanut butter, cheese (aged goat gouda is her favorite), salmon, green beans, carrots and garbanzo beans.
Whenever I open a can of garbanzo beans, she comes sprinting into the kitchen:
[tonight said beans were for slow cooker channa masala]
It’s so nice to have have dinner waiting at the end of a long day 🙂
Time to eat and then take Bell on a post-dinner walk. I’ll also get that Family post up tonight <3
xoxo
Gina
Something to talk about: Does your pet like veggies or fruit? What’s your #1 cure for a blah day?
sorry about the book 🙁
I love World Market – and always spend SO much time in the Intl Foods!
Isn’t being one the same thing as an expert??? Good thing you don’t need to be a mom expert to have a kid, jeez!!!
Hahaha I am cracking up at Bella. So cute…and funny she likes chick peas!
I bought a bunch of sea snax from TJ’s and the girl at checkout told me her cats LOVE them. I tried to give them to Munchkin, no dice. He LOVES when my husband gets grilled chicken from Outback. And salmon. He’s supposed to be on a strict duck and pea diet, but Michael doesn’t comply with that.
#1 cure for a blah day…that has changed….it’s now cuddling my lil girl 🙂
PS–I am sorry to hear about the book. Keep working at it, I bet bit things will happen for you!
I love pier1. I spend a ridiculous amount of time there every time I go, lol.
My mom gives Buffy veggies when she makes her salad in the morning. I hear she’s big on carrots and peppers.
I’m so sorry to hear about your book proposal. I’d definitely say World Market and Pier One are great cures for a bummer day though! I love, love, love World Market! It’s one of my favorite stores for sure. A bowl of ice cream or frozen yogurt is one of my favorite cures for a not-so-great day. 😉
Gina, so sorry your deal fell through. I remember the previous issues, too, and I am so sorry you are re-living it. Ugh!
But yes, shopping is a good cure all. As is chocolate. A good cry and vent sesh with your husband, and a back massage and some mindless tv. That’s what I would be doing!
Pumpkin..I will mail you some. My groc store carries it all year. Seriously, not a biggie, now or any time of year. LMK 🙂
i would love that- thank you, friend!
email me your mailing addy 🙂
Crunchy pumpkin chips? Ooo yeah.
How DOES one get expert status as a military wife? Did they give you any ideas? Maybe back to school for a grad cert in something related to the psychology of relationships. OR, I have a better idea. Don’t write a ‘how to’. Write a book of funny but touching girly stories with spunk. Be the non-Irish Marianne Keyes. I would totally read a book of stories about Ms Fitnessista and her crazy little dog, trying to make it work with deploying hubbies, pregnancy hormones, flamboyant hispanic family and.. throw in a few celebrities at work (identities disguised of course). My friend Shauna (‘Dietgirl’) got published by Transworld using a ‘blog memoir’ format and the book is hilarious.
The book deal is lame. Maybe try again post birth because military wife and mom totally ups your game. I love World Market, tons of our accessories were purchased there. I’m a huge fan of their napkins, I make super cheap and cute pillow covers out of them for a quick room refresher.
Sweet Kale of my could be sung to Sweet Caroline 😀 “Sweeeeeeeet Kale of mine, Oh oh oh!” Sorry about your book-we love you anyways. They made a big mistake and they’ll realize it one day, I’m sure and regret it!
My in-laws dog loves frozen peas! It’s like you are giving her candy!
I’ve been in/around the military for 10 years. You don’t want to be an *expert* military wife. They’re annoying. 😉 I’m sorry your proposal fell through for such a ridiculous reason.
Speaking as a fellow Army wife, I consider you an expert. But you are so right to think about what will happen instead over dwelling in what might have been.*
Maybe, you are not the ‘typical’ military wife…..if there is any ‘typical’? I think your angle/identity might be more of the title of your blog: our Fitness Sista!
Why a book? Why not make an exercise DVD?
I second this. Do an exercise DVD or exercise book! I come to your site for that!
Sorry Gina. 🙁 I know how frustrating that is. But in the meantime…your blog makes me smile every day!!
so sorry to hear about the book. you’re an expert in my eyes!
My dog loves cucumbers, bell peppers, and kale chips.
Sorry about the book deal. I’d definitely read a book you wrote. Someone as ambitious/talented as you has nothing to worry about in the long run. The world is full of possibilities right? Oh yeah. 🙂
Girl I emailed you a few months ago (pre blog) about, proposals shoot me an email!! It’s readsrecipesruns at gmail dot com. Trust me something amazing will come along 🙂
Aww Gina, I’m so sorry about the book. If it makes you feel any better, SO many successful authors have gotten turned down numerous times before scoring a book deal. I’m sure you already know this. But regardless, we love you to pieces! My cure for a blah day is a workout in which I push myself and I make time to sit down at the piano and sing a few tunes. Or host a dance party for one. You’re good at that. 🙂
On another note, PUMPKIN CHIPS?! GIMME.
My dog LOVES carrots. Eats them like candy. Grapes on the other hand…
Aw Gina I’m sorry to hear that your book deal fell through. You have so much to offer the world though, as evidenced by this blog. I know you are going to do great things! <3
Sorry about the book proposal — I’d like to know what you’d have to do to be an expert — that is crazy.
I *love* Pier 1 and World Market. I wish I had a gigantic house and an unlimited budget. I’d have the house full in no time!
Sorry to hear about the book deal. Something else is out there waiting for you though and it will come when the timing is right! 🙂
My favorite pick me up is a pedicure and a kombucha. Mmmhmm.
My dog kleptos my broccoli all the time, and she LOOOOVES ice cubes. She’ll eat anything her momma does!
Gosh, I’m so sorry.. that is so extremely disappointing. I for one would read anything you have to read on being a military wife.. I have found all of your posts about meeting the Pilot to dealing with his time deployed to be incredibly helpful and supportive for me, as an Air Force girlfriend.. and enlightening in the case that I one day move from g/f to wife honestly.
i just found you in opensky, and had to see your web site. So cute!!!!! I can totally relate. i am sorry about the book. One door closes, a better one will open..Promise. My dog onix loves apples, bananas ,broccoli, carrots and sweet potato. I try not to give him that to much, mostly his dry dog food. i know its better.. I do the same when I am feeling down. I love to go to Anthropology or Norman Bros, here in miami. I need your advice. i want to loose weight and cant seem to do it. What is my first step… Help thanks
Bummer on the book news. It’s always so hard to work hard towards something and it not come through. You’re keeping the right attitude about it, though. 🙂
My dog hates fruits and veggies, If there’a a piece of lettuce with dressing that dropped on the floor, she will lick off the dressing and leave the lettuce. But she loves meat and cheese. I always joke that’s how we know she’s “Daddy’s girl” because if she were “mine” she’d love fruits and veggies!
Keep your head up. There is definitely another plan and probably a better one in store for you! 🙂
As someone in a relationship with (but not married to) a military man, I would LOVE to hear someone discuss how they managed to find a career that both provided income AND allowed for the mobility that life demands. I love my soldier, but I *need* to have something that makes me feel like a worthwhile human being, too. It’s hard to think about major commitments if I feel like I’ll be mortgaging the dreams/goals I’ve had for myself for 25 years. I would have bought the book for sure.
I know that’s probably cold comfort, but even still 🙂
I need to find a world market ASAP! It looks like such an awesome store!!
Awwww honey…. that poops. I’d send you cute pictures of puppies to cheer you up, but you already have a cute puppy. On the bright side? You’re SOOOOOOOO beautiful and you don’t need dental work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL812ag82xI
I’m sorry about the book deal, but maybe the timing wasn’t quite right. Imagine trying to write the book and meet deadlines with a brand new newborn! The book deal and perfect idea will come along at the right time 🙂 Cost Plus and Pier 1 are perfect gloomy day fixers!!
Mmm..pumpkin chips sound good! I never knew cooked kidney beans were bad for dogs? I sell dog food for a living (I don’t use beans though!) but I had a customer who’s vet took her off my food and had her giving it beans (I thought she had said kidney) and potatoes until they could figure out it’s allergies. Where did you hear kidney beans are bad for them?
I have had several of those “blah” days lately mainly due to lack of sleep and more stress…. my stress relief has been in the form of running outside in cooler weather. It has been pretty life changing.
Sorry about the book deal… but I hear this is common for book writers, so don’t give up!
P.S. World Market is one of my loves!
My fav stores as well: I have to get carried out I stay in there so long! Have a wonderful evening and enjoy your indian 🙂
Sorry your book deal fell through 🙁 I think you should write a healthy lifestyle book. I find every single one of your posts inspire me to get off my ass and work out or eat better. If I didnt have a family, I would move close enough so I could do your fitness classes, that’s how inspiring you are. Have the people who turned down your book deals read your blog? I think anyone who reads your blog can see what a great book you could write 🙂
Love Pier 1 and World Market…can always spend hours in there if I ever had the spare time!
My dog LOVES watermelon, carrots, berries, cucumber, and especially peanut butter (she hears me opening the jar and is beside me in no time, ha) I don’t mind her eating people food as long as it’s the healthy stuff!
Okay I know you have heard it 1billion times but the author of the Help got turned down 60times and now look at her! I hope for you that 60times isn’t what it takes for you ,but it will happen! You are by far one of my favorite bloggers, and I know that I don’t comment alot but I am here faithfully.
I love World Market, I got their store perks card and they send me $10 off $30 coupons at least once a month. I got a $10 off anything coupon last week, so I will be heading in the buy me some Pumpkin Chips 🙂
Much love to you sweetie and never give up!
Sure something will come along for you book wise. One of my recent favourite books was actually originally released as an audio book for free online cause no publisher would touch it. It became super popular and then of course everyone wanted to publish it ;P
Oliver loves anything that falls on the floor 🙂 Also, just remember ‘The Help’ got turned down like 50 times before it became a Bestseller! So don’t give up. I don’t know who else is more of an expert at being a military wife than you and I’m a female in the military 🙂 For a blah day I usually will do some retail therapy or attempt to have a really great workout.
Wow Bella has expensive taste… goat gouda and salmon:) I try to surround myself with people when I am feeling down. Then I have other things to focus on and am more likely to get caught up in conversation and not dwell on my thoughts.
I read that the woman who wrote “The Help” sent her book out 29 times before someone would publish it. And now it’s a major motion picture. 🙂 Don’t give up yet. <3
This post is bittersweet for me. My parents had to put down our family dog this evening and he just LOVED vegetables. He knew the sound of the veggie drawer in the refrigerator and would come running from wherever he was in the house or scratch at the door if he was outside. Carrots were his absolute favorite. We sure loved that little guy!
awww 🙁 sending love to you and your family <3
I wish we had a World Market nearby! It looks so awesome.
Our cats don’t like fruit or veggies, but we recently got a new Chiweenie (2 weeks ago) and I’m not sure what he likes yet, other than Pupperoni. 🙂
I would totally read your book! keep on going it will happen!
I am so sorry about the book deal, that is really lame. And doesn’t really make any sense. I bet you are right though, there is something better waiting for you around the corner! Your salad looked lovely. Plants always react well to being sung too!
Just wondering Gina, with your book proposals, do you also include a press kit of your blog? If you don’t I think it would uber help!
i do- in the proposals you have to include all of your stats as well as press that you’ve had. i can definitely work on expanding it though
My dogs lovelovelove baby carrots! I think they would take them over any other treat. 🙂
Sorry to hear about your book deal. Keep trekking, you’ve got some great things to offer 🙂
I think my number one cure for a blah day would be to snuggle up with my pups – hope Bella gives you some extra kisses!
