Blogiversary Giveaway

Hey guys! Thank you so much for the wonderful blogiversary wishes <3 You all make this such an awesome environment with your positive energy, comments and discussions <3 <3 <3 I have so much love, appreciation and respect for all of you.

This morning, after eating my blogiversary macaroon, I had a chocolate cherry bomb.

choc cherry

I thought the day might come when I would get sick of these things.. but it hasn’t happened yet. It’s too delicious for words 😉

Cool news: Open Sky added the Glass Dharma straws to my store, just for me 🙂 They know how much I love these straws and since many of you ask where I purchased them –they’ve been a fave since last fall!- I figured it would be a great addition if any of ya’ll are in the market for some.

Next, I took the puppers to the dog park for an hour to meet my friend Lauren and her two dogs, a beagle and chihuahua. The chihuahua’s name is Bosco, and he and Bella are deeply in love. They gazed into each other’s puppy eyes and I kept Viesa on the leash to abstain from eating the chihuahua out of jealousy.

She was a good girl, though 🙂

Some of today’s eats:

vega

Vega Smoothie To-Go after my weight training sesh.

banana

Banana with almond butter and cinnamon + chai tea

And a wrap using this horseradish mustard that reader Teresa sent to me:

My nose was burning the entire time. I loved it 🙂

Happy blogiversary! To me, a fitnessista is someone who makes healthy living and physical fitness a priority in her life and encourages others to do the same. I started reading your blog about a month ago, and it’s helped me to make some awesome changes in my eating habits and encouraged me to drive new things (Zumba)! I would love to see more recipes on the blog- have you ever thought about writing a cookbook? Congrats again!

  13. Katie on June 8, 2010 at 10:54 am

Congrats on the anniversary! You must be very proud!
I would love to see more pictures of yoga poses on the blog, and more exercise videos:) It’s always easier to learn a move when you can see a person actually doing it.

    Congrats again!

Also, maybe a cooking video! A lot of the foods you eat look amazing, but I don’t think I could ever make them! To see how its done would be awesome!

    🙂
    Katie

  16. Eira on June 8, 2010 at 10:58 am

    First of all, congrats! 🙂

I would say a ‘Fitnessista’ is all about balance.

You’ve taught me not to feel guilty about having a treat every now and then, as long as it’s balanced with healthy, simple eating and exercise that I now actually enjoy 🙂 I never thought I’d get into weight-training… I used to bore myself silly with only cardio workouts all the time.

  17. Alyssa on June 8, 2010 at 11:01 am

A Fitnessista knows how to maintain a healthy life without going too crazy and without it becoming an obsession! She knows how to keep exercise fun and in moderation, and balance it with delicious healthy foods.

  18. Kay on June 8, 2010 at 11:01 am

Congrats! I love all the recipes on your blog….they all sound so good. Keep them coming!

  19. Beth on June 8, 2010 at 11:03 am

To me, being a fitnessista means keeping in shape for my mind, body, and soul. Exercise is what keeps me sane, my heart going strong, and my spirit growing with an optimistic edge. I’ve become a gym monkey in the last year and I love it!

I’d love to see more recipes on the site, as well as more about your workouts- what inspires YOU, girl? What do you do when you have to drag your butt to the gym knowing you have to get all sweaty?

  20. Molly on June 8, 2010 at 11:05 am

To me, Fitnessista is taking control of life and fitness and doing it all with style and flare! I’ve just discovered this website, but I would love to see more fitness moves and demonstrations, but also would love to hear about times that you really don’t feel like working out/need motivation/etc… inspiration to push through those mornings when bed seems to be so much nicer than the gym.

  21. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on June 8, 2010 at 11:06 am

I’m gonna have to piggyback off of Mara’s comment and say I would like to see another New York City trip on the blog in the next year. One photo should include my ugly mug. 😉 You should come see Fela anyway – I’m dying to see that show and apparently the choreography will just melt your face.

Maybe a more reasonable suggestion would be more veggie slow cooker recipes? I feel like that wouldn’t be much of a stretch for ya. 🙂

Alright I will email you with the scavenger hunt answers because I don’t even need to hunt for em! I must be a good lil reader.

  22. Tori Bennett on June 8, 2010 at 11:07 am

I would love to see more raw cooking techniques and recipes. I am finally graduating with my nutrition therapist degree next week and will have ample time this summer to try a day or 2 raw.

  23. Jess on June 8, 2010 at 11:09 am

To be a Fitnessista is to make fitness an all-encompassing part of your life. The term stems from the pop culture term Fashionista: someone who’s whole life is fashion. Fitnessistas allow fitness to inform every aspect of their life (sometimes in a minor way, sometimes a major way). It’s about making those little choices that we’re all tempted to make excuses to avoid.

Why? Because a Fitnessita knows it’s not about starving or exercising 12 hours a day. It’s about loving your veggies, taking the stairs when you can, throwing a vinyasa or two in between meetings, devoting one night a week to your favorite class, and not being afraid to have a piece of cake now and then. It’s about living a balanced, fit, and happy life.

Five years ago when I was in high school, I was a chubby girl who abhorred vegetables and dreaded the fitness tests because she couldn’t run a mile. I changed my whole life, lost 45 lbs, became a runner and a yogi, all through little changes. I welcomed fitness into every part of my life. I am proud to think of myself as a Fitnessista and your blog has kept me going at times when I felt I couldn’t make it past another plateau. As I continue to define what being a Fitnessista means for me, I hope your blog is here to help lead my way.

    Thank you and Happy Blogiversary.

A Fitnessista is someone who truly lives a fit life. A woman who will find a way to fit a workout into her day no matter how busy the rest of her life is. She also gives back by motivating others to live a healthy and fit lifestyle!

I would love for you to do a post(s) on yoga for beginners or how to get into practicing yoga.

  28. Jeanne on June 8, 2010 at 11:20 am

  35. Fallon on June 8, 2010 at 11:55 am

I definitely liked to see more recipes on the blog! I always like to try something new.

    Congrats on your blog anniversary!

  36. Stephanie on June 8, 2010 at 11:58 am

A fitnessista is someone who understands moderation. She loves a good sweatfest but is not afraid of taking a day off. She likes to eat healthy as much as she likes a good old pizza and beer (or indian food and wine) =)

  37. Sheila on June 8, 2010 at 12:07 pm

A fitnessista is someone who lives life to the fullest in a healthy way. I’d like to see more zumba videos.

  38. Carrie on June 8, 2010 at 12:13 pm

I’d love to see more about how to entertain yourself while exercising. I work out in my apartment gym alone and nobody else is ever there and it gets *boring*. Oh and I always love reading more about nutrition.

  39. Katherine on June 8, 2010 at 12:14 pm

I’ve said it before, but you are amazing!!

To me, a Fitnessista is someone who can keep the combination of exercise and healthy eating interesting and fun, while also mixing in a few ‘splurges’ every now and again. In a nutshell–you!

In the next year, I would love to continue to hear about your life. The way you workout, the way you eat, and just your general view on all things health.

  40. Jill@mysocalledhealthlife on June 8, 2010 at 12:19 pm

For next year the more recipes the better! U are an inspiration in the kitchen!

  41. Morgan on June 8, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Fitnessista to me is like that one close friend we all have that puts her time & energy into being fit, healthy, happy & devoted to clean eats and being active…they type of girl who always supports your decisions, meets you at the gym in the wee early hours of the AM to help/support/cheer on your workouts, goes out to dinner & shows you that you can make up your own meals off the menu to suite your healthy needs. Pretty much, it means Fitness & Health Cheerleader to me!!

As far as what I would like to see on the bloggy this next year…everything that was on it this year because I love it & wouldn’t change a thing!

  42. Emily on June 8, 2010 at 12:28 pm

    Congrats!

A fitnessista is someone who pursues a holistic approach to health… physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, relational, occupational, and on and on :).

  45. Erin on June 8, 2010 at 12:50 pm

A Fitnessista is definitely someone who understands balance. A healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be boring and I love that you understand the value of cookies and the importance of eating things you like, even if they’re not “good” for you. I strive to maintain this balance in my life and it’s great to have examples like you to look up to. 🙂

  46. Chrissie on June 8, 2010 at 12:55 pm

I would love to see more of your recipes, particularly how you prepare meals that work for both you and the pilot.

  50. Anja on June 8, 2010 at 1:02 pm

First of all I LOVE your blog – thanks for keeping me inspired and entertained at the same time! A fitnessista to me is someone who works out and eats well for no other reason than to feel great and have fun (not weight loss, not social conforming). I would love to see more recipes as well as posts about organizing and fitting in exercise and me-time with a busy schedule. Thanks!
