Christmas in July

Heyyyy ๐Ÿ˜€ How are you? Hope youโ€™re having a wonderful day! Can you believe that we raised over $26,000 for Susan through The Great Fundraising Act? The blog world is truly amazing <3

We were really excited to spend our first night in our new home, but the previous owners had the utilities switched out of their name and shut off before we got the keys [and since it was over the weekend, no one was in the office to change it over for us until Monday, when they were already off]. Since we still had no water at the end of the day, we headed to the Hampton Inn (which weโ€™ve always referred to as โ€œthe hammyโ€) for the night.

Comfy bed:

hampton

{My Snoogle and I travel together}

It was a nice cozy room, and they also have a decent fitness center + free breakfast. Baller.

Even though I had helped with moving all day, I was still pretty wired from all of the excitement, so I hit up the gym for a 45-minute workout to get my sweat on and ensure that Iโ€™d sleep well.

hammy

I did a weights-focused workout, with some cardio blasts in between circuits. It was schweaty and glorious.

Hotel breakfast:

bfast

Eggs, which Iโ€™m pretty sure were powder at one point in time (yeahโ€ฆ.), salsa and a banana that was smeared in a blanket of peanut butter.

Best part of the day:

pod

Opening the POD!!! It really was Christmas in July ๐Ÿ™‚

I canโ€™t believe our stuff has been in there for almost a year โ€“it will be a year in August- and everything survived. All of the glass, valuables, random ish we were throwing in last-minute to make it fitโ€ฆ all made it here. It was so fun to see our things again!
 pod (2)

And scary.

We have a LOT of stuff.

I ended up helping with the little things since Iโ€™m not supposed to lift very heavy stuff right now, cleaned the apartment that we moved out of, and brought back lunch, while our fam was hard at work unloading the heavy things out of the POD.

When I got back, it was EMPTY!

The prepโ€ฆ

and liftoff ๐Ÿ˜€

We had a lunch picnic in the kitchen: Magpieโ€™s pizza + sparkling water, soda, snacks and cups my nana brought over ๐Ÿ™‚

picnic

Everyone else feasted on pizza, while I enjoyed one of the best salad beasts ever:

Greek salad, no feta

salad

+ goat cheese from home ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot has been done around here, but thereโ€™s still SO much left to do. We also need to get internet and cable hooked upโ€ฆ which is why my posting schedule has been a little weird yesterday and today. You can pretty much always count on a morning post, an early afternoon fashion or family post and a nighttime post. As much as I like hopping on random WiFi, it will be nice to have our own ๐Ÿ˜‰

We have water and a bed to sleep in tonight, so Iโ€™ll go ahead and call it good ๐Ÿ™‚

Off to start unpacking boxes! Be back later tonight with a Family post update.

xoxo

Gina

*Our new neighbors are AWESOME. They came over to say hello as Stanley Steemer was driving away since we had no water yesterday, and the husband ran down the street and chased them to come back because they said we could use their water for the carpet cleaning. And then, they offered me a coconut water. I wanted to pinch myself.

Something to talk about: In Keeping up with the Kardashians (my reality show addiction), in one episode Kim talks about when they were younger and their dad would ask them every night what the โ€œpeakโ€ of their day was, and the โ€œpitโ€ of their day. My peak was opening the POD and finding things I had long forgotten about, and my pit was when the eco-friendly maid came, spent 5 hours here and only cleaned the oven and 1 bathroom. I had a Groupon for a 5-hour cleaning, and she decided to use it by being as slow as humanly possible. Usually I love the Groupons I pick up, but this one didnโ€™t turn out as awesome as anticipated.

Your turn: what was the peak of your day, and the pit of your day? ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on July 26, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Wooo, yay for opening the pod!!

The peak of my day was two-fold: an awesome, unexpected interview, and a yummy salad for din with my best friend from hs.. My pit was having a yucky headache for most of today!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:15 pm

that sounds like a great day!

  17. Mindy on July 26, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Yay! You guys are all moved in and you have your stuff back!

That totally sucks about the maid service. We once needed a maid in short notice, got one from Craigslist (always a bad idea), she charged $25/hr, spent 8 hours in our house and didn’t really do much. It was awful and I was so upset, but I learned not to use Craigslist for that again!! Plus she smoked right outside our house and made it smell like smoke. Yuck!

Anywaaaaaaay, I finally tried a Larabar yesterday – peanut butter cookie. OMG it was delicious! So I had another one today. I have to stop myself from buying them or I will always eat them!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:15 pm

      ewww!
welcome to the larabar obsession.. there’s no turning back ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Lindsey on July 26, 2011 at 9:18 pm

What a great feeling to finally have all of your stuff! and YAY! for awesome neighbors – they can really make or break a home. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Danielle on July 26, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Peak – talking to my (geobachelor) husband and finding out his next TDY won’t be on the other side of the country! Hooray for Texas and not Tacoma ๐Ÿ™‚

Pit – Accidentally cutting a hole in the new lulu run swiftly shirt I ordered, d’oh.

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:20 pm

      YAY!

  20. Molly on July 26, 2011 at 9:18 pm

My peak: Picking up Mama Pea’s new cookbook at my local bookstore.
My pit: The tech at the cell phone store telling me that six hours of battery time on my smart phone is pretty good. Um, I don’t think so!

  21. Amber L on July 26, 2011 at 9:19 pm

all the moving in stuff is so exciting! I’m excited for you guys to move in!

The peak of my day was going over my parent’s house to spend time with my dad who just got home from the hospital/rehabilitation from a stroke he had last month. He’s doing soooo much better and in much better spirits!

The pit of my day was realizing the new area rug I bought for the dining room is smaller than the dining room table. Looks like I’ll be exchanging it for something bigger! oops!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:19 pm

sending healing vibes to your dad <3

      • Amber L on July 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm

Thank you that means a lot! ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Destini on July 26, 2011 at 9:20 pm

My peak was finishing work and starting vacation. Felt fantastic. Quick question I often notice you use goat cheese instead of any other. May I ask why? I love goat cheese and tend to always have it over anything else. Plus it seems to be easier on my fiancรฉ’s stomach(he’s lactose intolerant)

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:22 pm

yep- goat cheese is a lot easier to digest and less inflammatory and mucus-forming (gross, but true) in the body than cow’s milk

  23. Jen on July 26, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Great post and congrats on the POD opening and unloading!
Peak: watching a sappy romantic movie – My Life in Ruins
Pit: watching it without the hubs who is working 2nd shift right now. I doubt he’d list that as a Pit though (not so much a fan of chick flix).

  24. Kilee on July 26, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Yah! I’m so excited for you two to be moving into your new home. Are you pinching yourself?!

Pit: feeling sicky and I’m pretty sure it’s just bad allergies
Peak: I only have 3 more days until I leave to visit my BF who’s been working away from home this summer ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great night!

  25. Juliet @ irun2eat! on July 26, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Peak: Funny email chain with husband and friends regarding a trip this weekend.

Pit: Sleeping in late and working ALL day so I have to do my workout tonight at 7:30 : (

So glad you finally get to unpack your stuff!

  26. Dominique on July 26, 2011 at 9:22 pm

I love watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It’s my guilty-pleasure. The pit of my day was waiting forever for a neurology appointment that lasted literally 2 minutes. The peak of my day was the BF picking me up from work and having a homemade dinner together: corn, roasted broccoli and sweet potatoes. Yum!

  27. Mindy on July 26, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Peak: Killing it at the gym (4.0 mile run when I planned on 3.0, plus PowerFlex)
Pit: Diet Coke withdraws are TOUGH.

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:25 pm

hang in there, you can do it ๐Ÿ™‚
way to rock it at the gym, too!

  28. Julie on July 26, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Congratulations on the move Gina! The new place looks lovely!

I like this idea (and the Kardashians ๐Ÿ˜‰ so here goes…. The peak of my day was an exciting and fun work project, the pit was getting in a fender bender (*sigh* my fault) on the way home. No one hurt, no major damage, but it was the pits!

    • Fitnessista on July 26, 2011 at 9:25 pm

i know what you mean- those are a pain to deal with! glad you’re ok <3

  29. Emily on July 26, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Peak: I dug out one of my hobbies–stamps! I made a handful of thank yous and thinking of yous to have on hand.
Pit: leash burn on the back of my legs because the puppy was sooo excited to go for a walk. I was extra sweaty too so the friction was just awful. But if that’s the worst–not too bad!

  30. breakingsilence @ Freshman -15 on July 26, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Peak: Making plans with the bestie!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Pit: Having to deal with someone who’s acting like a 12 year old. I’m having to make a real effort to just ignore it…ugh!

  31. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 26, 2011 at 9:30 pm

I love the pic of you going nuts in front of the POD — how sweet to have all of your stuff!

Peak: running 3.5 super sweaty miles in the sunshine today

Pit: Getting stuck in slower-than-normal traffic on my way home from work ๐Ÿ™

  32. Amy Ramos on July 26, 2011 at 9:31 pm

First of all I love the Hampton Inn!! They are great.
Second, congrats on the house! We just signed loan docs today and if all goes well, we can be homeowners by Friday! SAH-WEEET!

Oh and I keep forgetting to tell you-your workouts are killa. This is coming from someone who used to do boot camp and train for a 1/2 marathon.

  33. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on July 26, 2011 at 9:31 pm

I would call and complain to whoever her boss is! That is just ridiculous!

The peak of my day was going to an amazing spin class. The pit of my day was thinking about how my manfriend is moving on Sunday… ๐Ÿ™ I am trying so hard to live day by day but I just can’t stop thinking about it!

  34. Running Betty on July 26, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Peak of my day = fitting in two yoga classes, I never do that in one day.
    Pit = I haven’t had chocolate – yet…
    i would report the maid.

  35. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm

That SUCKS about the maid. Omg that is why I find it easier to clean my own house! Even when I was pregnant and Skylar was a newborn and I was soooo tired, the work of coordinating maids and then them leaving and me not being satisfied after having them in my hair all day…not worth it. Usually.

Moving into a new place in the heat of AZ when you’re pregnant IS one of those times it’s worth it. That is awful she did…nothing. ugh!

“what the โ€œpeakโ€ of their day was, and the โ€œpitโ€ of their day”– I Love the Kardashians and I remember this!

Peak: doing lots of blog related chores, and being featured on another blog today (Katie Lee..she does Top Chef, has 2 books, on the Food Network, etc…) and she featured lil old me!

Pit: Pulling a 19-20 hour day. But that’s the norm!

  36. Sana on July 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm

Peak- Teaching a baller ab crunch class.
Pit- no pit, I had a baller day!

  37. Nicole on July 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm

I highly recommend moving while pregnant!

We moved when I was 32 weeks, and it was the easiest move I ever had. No one would let me do anything, I just sat in a chair pointing at where I wanted things to go.

My pit of the day is when the construction workers next door decided to start working at 6am and woke us all up. The cherry- hubby came home from work early and I we took a family nap ๐Ÿ™‚

So excited for you to finally be IN your home and to have great neighbors!!!

OK, pit – Not feeling 100 %, getting weak too quickly and too frequently!

And Peak – remembering it was Tuesday and heading out for 1/2 price pizza night with the hubby!

Hope you have all your utilities up and running quickly!

  40. Melissa on July 26, 2011 at 9:44 pm

I love that picture of you holding your hair out all crazy and your husband going all O.o haha

My peak: Talking to my husband, who is in Afghanistan. (He actually likes it there. Don’t get me started.)

My pit: Thinking about the fact that the movers are coming tomorrow. It’s gonna be a long, exhausting day. As you know!

  41. Paige on July 26, 2011 at 9:45 pm

  42. courtney @ cupcakedynamite on July 26, 2011 at 9:47 pm

I love their peak and pit of the day thing! Once at a work happy hour there were crickets at our table so I randomly was like ummm… sooo… what was everyone’s peak/pits. LOL. not envious of all the unpacking, but hey – it’ll be worth it!!

  43. chelsea on July 26, 2011 at 9:50 pm

You remind me so much of me haha :)! Like the pictures of you and the pilot are so something that Josh and I would do as well as the pictures of you jumping in the pod. I even have a hope to one day work in a health resort like you do =D

peak of the day…my zuzana workout and insanity ๐Ÿ™‚ pit of the day? getting off work and doubling over in pain from cramps, ughh.

  44. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on July 26, 2011 at 9:50 pm

I’m so excited for you!! The peak of my day was getting through an interval workout on the treadmill. The pit of my day was realizing how much a good blender that won’t burn out on me costs. Mine broke yesterday and I’m researching replacements for my green monsters. Boo.

The peak of my day was coming home to my handsome Zak and the fur kids. I was greeted with a chorus of happy barks and a wonderful kiss and hug from Z. The pit of my day was dealing with some ridiculous people regarding the launch of a show with a certain classic rock star. The egos in my business, I swear!

  46. Silvia @ skinny jeans food on July 26, 2011 at 10:11 pm

I guess the tale goes: don’t use groupon deals on maids and nannies ๐Ÿ˜‰

  47. Laura @ Backstage Pass on July 26, 2011 at 10:11 pm

Oh and regarding the Groupon – send the Groupon folks an email with feedback on the service you received – they are very good about maintaining quality standards of products / services they offer and will usually give you some sort of credit, if not a refund. I had a bad experience with a restaurant being rude and refusing to let me redeem my Groupon (I made sure to read the fine print and followed their requests, and was very polite to them – all to no avail!) and Groupon issued me a no questions further, immediate refund.

  48. Leslie Wingate on July 26, 2011 at 10:12 pm

    Peak: Zumba Sweating
Pit: Zumba teacher saying she is cutting back to once a week.

  49. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 26, 2011 at 10:16 pm

So many congrats to you guys! I am so happy for you that all of your things survived. I wish you well with the un-packing! And I am so sorry about the maid. Total bummer. But at least those are two less things you have to do. My pit was getting up early to go to work. My peak is a tie, talking to my sister who is away, and coming home to see my Love

  50. Kelli on July 26, 2011 at 10:22 pm

Hey G, should you be jumping like that when preggo?!? Take ‘er easy…. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The peak of my day was helping our friends bathe all 6, (yes I said 6) of their kiddos tonight…there isn’t a better smell than clean kids! The pit, I didn’t get to spend much time with my man…of to try and get some QT in! Love the tiny baby bump ๐Ÿ™‚
