Dance Cardio Combo (video)

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Hope it was lovely <3

We went over to my aunt and uncle’s last night for a little Hannukah celebration. Growing up, a lot of my friends celebrated Hannukah, so I was surrounded by the beautiful culture and traditions of the holiday. This was Liv’s first bit of exposure to Hannukah, and of course, she loved the music and the candles. (Every candle is a “Happy Birthday” and she wants to blow it out.)

Hannukah

We spent the afternoon doing some stuff around the house, then I took Livi to the park and (our other favorite place) Costco for a few necessities.

(See, brain? We can still have pine needles all over the house)

Our trips to Costco go a little like this: we walk around sharing samples and pick up random but necessary bulk items. (A 15-pack of guacamole?! Sure, why not.) We ran into Sasha and her husband Matt while we were midway through a sample and meandering around the cheese section.

I was also planning on shaking my legs out a little with a run/walk. As you guys can probably imagine, I’ve been feeling the itch to run since I had to drop out of my half marathon. I was fully trained, ready to rock it, and was a giant klutz and hurt myself. Long story short: I fell down the stairs in our house, tweaked something, and running distances longer than 6 miles became painful. I stopped running to let it heal, and finally got to see a couple of docs (one at urgent care, one at flight med). Since then, getting a referral for an MRI has taken quite a while, as I was anticipating. I thought it finally went through, and when I called to book my appointment, they said they need a “doctor’s orders” on file. Even though it’s been in process, it looks like the end is near.

When I got to the park, it was dark and emptyโ€ฆ another to sign to wait it out until I know what’s going on. Depending on the prognosis, I’ll either have to stop running for a while or they’ll give me the “ok” to ease back into training. There are a few more half marathons coming up, and I was really hoping to do at least one this season. Fingers crossed <3

Something that always feels good: dancing.

Here’s a little dance cardio video Sasha and I put together:

Dance cardio combo

Dancing is my all-time favorite way to work out; it never feels like “work,” just fun.

This one is fairly short, and we break down all of the steps. After you’ve learned the combo, turn on your favorite song and bust it out a few times– you’ll be surprised how quickly it gets your heat rate up!

Today is also the LAST DAY to take advantage of our Soli Beat Black Friday sale. Use the code “shakeit” to get the DVD for $9.99 ($17 off the MSRP). These things have been flying off the shelves (aka Sasha’s living room floor)!

Holiday copy

Thank you so much to those of you who have picked up a copy for yourself or a friend. We are so thankful for your support and hope you have as much fun with the workout as we did putting it together. We broke even with the DVDs, so I’ll be able to use some of my part to pay Grant to film the Winter Shape Up videos, which will be free, full-length workout videos on YouTube. I can definitely say it’s going to be the best Winter Shape Up yet ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a very happy Monday!

See ya later today with the first giveaway of the 10 Days of Giveaways.

xoxo

Gina

Did you try the dance combo? How’d it go?

What’s on the workout plan for today?

Awesome that you were successful with the DVD and can use that success to finance other videos.
Costco is great, I too just randomly pick up things and eat all the samples. It never fails that I spend at least $100 every time I go. That guac never goes uneaten in my house either.

Wah! I love dancing as my cardio, it seriously makes me feel super sexy and it gets my heart rate up! Thanks for the fun combo <3

I hope your knee situation gets better soon!

Some kind of winter cold/flu is trying to creep up on me so I nixed my workout plans for the past few days. I’m ready to get back into it, hopefully today.

I bought a copy of SoliBeat for my mom! I’m terrible at anything dance-related, but she’s much better than me and I’m sure she’ll have fun with the DVD. I really like all your (non-dance) workouts so I wanted to support the blog/your hard work somehow. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s so nice that as a family you can experience both Hannukah and Christmas traditions, I think that’s so special.
The dance cardio looks so fun, if only I was a better dancer;)

  5. Jackie on December 2, 2013 at 11:17 am

I’m hoping I get solibeat for Christmas!

Careful with that knee! I killed my knee and foot last fall and kept going at it even though it hurt (which I knew was stupid but I just wanted to get through a race, which I was never able to run). I damaged it further and ended up not being able to workout on that leg from January through last week and I am still not allowed to run on it. Skipping one season of half marathons is 1000x’s better than skipping a year of them.

that is very true! patience is not my virtue, but i’m trying to be good and wait it out

      • Ali on December 2, 2013 at 3:46 pm

Patience is not my virtue either – it’s been rough! Good luck!

I’m excited for the dance cardio video! Yay! I hope your knee is starting to feel better. Injuries are no fun!

Not so much a fan of dance cardio (I was embarrassed for myself trying your belly dancing one), but I think I might give plank and burn a try today and maybe some Pilates moves for a booty burn since my kids have too many boogers to leave them in the gym child care. *maybe* after hubby gets home! I’ll try to squeeze in some jump rope HIIT in the backyard. Mama’s gotta do what a mama’s gotta do.

    • Fitnessista on December 2, 2013 at 4:12 pm

amen to that! hope your kiddos feel better soon

I got my cardio in this weekend by dancing the night away with some of my girlfriends – I totally agree that dancing is the best way to work up a good sweat, but not feel like you’re ‘working out’. Loves it!

  10. Ashley V on December 2, 2013 at 12:50 pm

I can’t handle dance cardio because my coordination is just abysmal. I enjoy dancing in general, but if it involves choreography of any time I’m a lost cause. I did some strength this morning-a ChaLEAN Extreme video. Yesterday I did two quick workouts from the Nike Workout app, and I loved them! That app may be my new way to get in some cardio in addition to my running. I’m sorry that your knee is still a hindrance. I’ve been very blessed not to have injured myself in the two years I’ve been running. I’m training for a February half and pray my health will continue!

  11. Anna @ Your Healthy Place on December 2, 2013 at 1:02 pm

Thank YOU for the video! I love dance – took it on and off all through high school but never well enough to get into a team or anything so now that I’m in my 20s my dance is almost always in my living room ;). I really enjoy it for fitness so thank you for sharing…and please keep them coming!

My grandmas jewish so I’ve also had the pleasure of celebrating both hanukkah and christmas. I have a lot of great memories growing up with both holiday traditions ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Tania @ Run To Radiance on December 2, 2013 at 2:49 pm

Haha I am a huge Costco fan too! That guacamole always does look tempting but it turns brown and icks me out after opening. i know there’s technically nothing wrong with it at that point but I just can’t get past it!

    • Fitnessista on December 2, 2013 at 4:10 pm

they’re smaller packs, though- liv and i can easily finish one together, so i don’t think we’ll have to worry about this browning issue

  18. Lauren on December 2, 2013 at 2:53 pm

Glad you are feeling better! Excited for your Winter Shape Up!

  19. Jennifer on December 2, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Hi Gina! Thank you for the email with workout info and today’s post! I hope that your knee situation improves and appreciate your positivity regarding the lengthy “diagnostic experience” – a good reminder that we can learn patience from injuries. Looking forward to trying the dance video!

    • Fitnessista on December 2, 2013 at 4:05 pm

      thank you! <3

  20. Shannon on December 2, 2013 at 3:24 pm

I need to order your video ASAP! What I love about your dance videos is they’re not super intimidating. I’ve done videos and classes where the instructor was such an amazing dancer and just looked so incredible doing the moves that I felt like a complete goober trying to keep up. Your videos are so accessible because you just look like a regular woman getting a good workout instead of some crazy good pro dancer. So much more fun!

  21. Jay on December 2, 2013 at 3:35 pm

Can’t wait to try it! Thanks.

  26. Lucie on December 3, 2013 at 3:09 am

    Dancing is the BEST Cardio!
Cross fingers for your knee, hope all goes well!

  27. Heather on December 5, 2013 at 2:48 pm

Hey thanks for another video! Just for future filming, I’ve noticed in the last couple of videos that they have filmed out your feet which is kind of tricky for the especially uncoordinated like myself who would like to see what your feet are doing, so I can follow along. It’s free so I’m not complaining, but just a heads up…not sure you noticed.

    • Fitnessista on December 5, 2013 at 3:39 pm

i didn’t notice until it was posted- sorry about that! you can see sash’s the whole time though
