Fluff and Substance
Hi friends 🙂 How’s your day going? Hope you’re having a lovely morning!
It’s gloomy here.
It actually RAINED last night!
A little secret: Arizona people are afraid of rain.
When it rains, we avoid driving at all costs,
stay in our houses,
and make delicious dinners 😉
It started off with some steamed b-nut squash:
Topped with TJs marinara,
sautéed spinach, onion, with lemon juice, cayenne, sea salt and pepper
and my beloved goat cheese 🙂
+ green beans with organic butter and sea salt
The squash was almost like a stackable version of my favorite butternut squash and goat cheese lasagna, except that it only took 10 minutes to make! Baller.
Dessert was some protein ice cream:
and late-night snack was some popcorn with nutritional yeast (shared with roomies) and Monster In-Law 🙂
So this weekend, after debating for a week on what I wanted to read next (and using your amazing suggestions), I finally downloaded my new “fluff” and “substance” to the Kindle.
Fluff:
"I remember when I hit rock bottom. There I was with no make-up on, hadn’t showered, eating raw cookie dough out of the tube, hitting on the toothless bagger at the commissary, and ordering jewelry off the TV. And that was just my first day!"
This one is pretty hilarious so far. Military wives definitely have unique lives and it’s making me remember some very funny early days with the Pilot. In a part I was reading last night, she’s talking about how she wasn’t strong enough to carry the boxes during their first move. In our first move together out of Fayetteville, the Pilot had to “turtle” the couches- he hunched over with the couch over his back like a giant shell and I had to direct him through the doorways. I’m a little stronger now 😉
Substance:
Wayne’s international bestseller explores intention—not as something we do—but as an energy we’re a part of. We’re all intended here through the invisible power of intention—a magnificent field of energy we can access to begin co-creating our lives! (source)
This book is fantastic so far. I’m a huge believer that we have the power to make things happen if we will them to, so it’s been a fabulous read. Right now I’m using my intention for two things: to get an awesome assignment on Friday (Tucson or Vegas!!!) and that my Canon Rebel mysteriously starts working again. I turned it on this morning and it was like there was no power, even though the battery was in and fully charged. :/ *fingers crossed*
Well I’m off to work, but I hope you have an amazing day and I’ll see ya this afternoon!
xoxo
Gina
Something to do: In the nominating mood? Please take a second to nominate your favorite bloggers *here* for the Women’s Health blog roll. Have a blog? Leave a link in the comments section with your comment and I’ll be happy to return the favor 🙂
Gaaah, I wish I wasn’t allergic to cheese! I may have to try this dish with some veggie/soy cheese – it looks that good 🙂
Book sounds hilarious! Happy Monday <3
Aw sorry to hear about your camera woes this morning Gina! Sorry I can’t be of much help in that department as I don’t own one but I hope you can get it fixed soon. LOVE Monster In Law as well – such a great chick flick!
I was inspired by you to be better about getting exercise into my day, so I went to a 6am hot yoga class this morning. Been up since 4:30 and I actually feel great! It’s so nice to get my workout done in the morning and have the rest of the day for school/work.
I love the butternut squash idea!!
I’m so jealous of your reads – you put me to shame! Not only do I rarely read (well, I read all the time, but I’m talking about non-work reading), but the reads I do enjoy are typically….magazines! haha! No really though, I need to pick up a book soon!
Sounds like a great balance between fluff and substance!
Arizona people sound a lot like Florida people. At least where I lived on the Gulf coast it never seemed to rain and when it did it was a BIG deal. And then everyone ran for cover while it rained for 15 minutes 🙂
The Power of Intention sounds really interesting — have you read The Secret? It sounds pretty similar — the Law of Attraction and all that.
I hope you get your camera working again — how frustrating!
It was my pleasure to nominate you just now on the Women’s Health site, Gina! Your blog rocks!
thank you! and thank you so much for reading 🙂
xoxo
LOVE LOVE LOVE your reading choices! Dr Wayne Dyer is amazing! 🙂
I nominated your blog and I honestly believe it’s wonderful – this is what I wrote:
A successful blog is inspiring, well-written, and motivating, one that makes a reader want to return and continue on the journey with the writer. This blog accomplishes all of that. The recipes and food ideas are healthy, tasty, and easy to incorporate into daily life. The photos are wonderful and I look forward to seeing new posts each day!
I just started my blog and I’m hoping to reach people as you have. I know a lot of people struggle with losing weight and finding a healthy balance to keep it off, so I wanted to show that it is possible. If you ever want to give me a shout out, you have my permission 😉
Good luck and hope you make the top blogs!!
Lindsay
Hey Gina,
Wayne Dyer is fantastic and by the way, that book was actually written BEFORE the hubbub about “The Secret”.
Enjoy!
fran
Oooh that Women’s Health thing is great, I will definitely nominate you!!
My blog is http://www.RunForTheBikini.com if anyone thinks it is nominate-able 🙂
Hi Gina, I have a question about that bodyrock.tv website. Are the HIIT videos full-length, or does she just do a few minutes so you get an idea of the moves, and then you do the rest of it yourself, on your own? Thanks 🙂
mmmmm that recipes looks yummy!
p.s. I nominated your blog!! I hope you win 😉
Ooo little mini butternut squash pizzas. Clever! I’ve never mixed marinara with my butternut, but with two great things, how can you go wrong?
You MUST read Ree Drummond’s new book. But not until the pilot comes home or you’ll cry like a baby. I cried anyway and my husband is here. It is the story of their LOVE. O’m obsessed.
My hair is allergic to rain, so I stay indoors and eat 😉
LOL. sounds like a perfect plan to me
Good luck on the assignment!!!! I hope it’s a place that you’ll love!!
Wayne Dyer is a smart man, i love watching his lectures. I hope you enjoy the book.

You are nominated, my love (didn’t have to think too much on this one):
The Fitnessista is a positive and motivational blog that focuses not on weight and image but health and inner beauty. Her grace and charm never fades even while enduring her husband’s third military deployment. It’s the first website I check every day. I’m lucky to have her as a wife.
Love, me

P.S. Everyone in Los Angeles is TERRIFIED of rain, too! It’s always best to avoid driving when it even sprinkles! LOL
I will definitely be nominating a few of my faves of which I am loyal follower. Health and fitness blogs have inspired, informed, and motivated me in so many ways. This seems like a great way to honor you guys for putting your lives, thoughts, passions, and yummy eats out for the world to see! I was so inspired and motivated by my fave blogs that I started my very own! I started Sunny State Of Mind about a year ago (bloggiversary is march 16th) and I love it! I look forward to taking the pictures and reading and writing blogs every day! 🙂
Just nominated you lady. 🙂

I had no idea you were in Fayetteville – that’s where I’m at now! Did you like it here? How did you keep up with the healthy lifestyle living so far from TJ’s and Whole Paycheck? 😉
Oh and I nominated you too. My blog is: alifetobraggabout.blogspot.com
Thanks!!!
Use that Power of Intention and your camera will work 🙂 I love your idea for dinner! Mine is enjoyyourhealthylife.com 🙂 It is newer, but thanks. I’ll go nominate you!!
Consider yourself nominated 🙂
SWEET comment from the Pilot! You two make my heart melt.
I watched Monster-in-Law last night too! I couldn’t pull myself away from the J.Lo marathon on TBS 🙂
You’re nominated. I heart your blog.
I nominated your blog! Here’s what I said –
“Gina’s blog is hilarious and inspirational… she is honest and forthright about a variety of issues and topics (health, food, love, travel, dogs, exercise!), and I’ve been a loyal reader of hers daily for over a year. She rocks and deserves a spot on this list!”
Love ya, girl! 🙂
“A little secret: Arizona people are afraid of rain. “–
The same can be said about So Cal, too! It rained here all last week/weekend and people are afraid to drive, the roads are chaos when people attempt it…pretty hilarious considering I grew up driving in ice, snow, and truly horrible winter weather conditions.
Glad you’re enjoying your new books! The comment about the Pilot “turtle’ing” the couch…what a great visual. Glad you got stronger 🙂
So glad you’re liking The Power of Intention! It really lit a spark in me. I’m adding Confessions of a Military Wife to my “to read list”. Another good book on from the the Mil wife perspective is “I Love a Man in Uniform” by Lily Burana. She’s had a super interesting life!
Would you please remind me how you make your protein ice cream, or link the bold-printed “protein ice cream” to your past description/recipe? I know it’s kind of like a smoothie, but I forget what you do differently. Thanks!! 😀
exactly- more fruit, less milk 🙂
I moved to San Diego from NJ and oh my goodness, don’t even get me started on the rain! When it sprinkles I can look forward to lots of traffic on my commute to work…they really are scared of it!!
And I’m heading over to nominate you. Your positive attitude towards nutrition, fitness, and life in general is contagious. I can’t help but smile when I read your blog!
I need to try that ice-cream!!!!
I just nominated ya 😉
For all others who are interested, vote for fitnessista and my blog, http://theultimaterecipe.org, for the Women’s Health ‘Blogs We Love’ blog roll! Thank you for the support!
