Friday Vision

Heyyyyy πŸ˜€ IT’S FRIDAY! Wahoo!!! Hope you have something fun going on this weekend πŸ™‚

I started off my Friday with a giant organic plumble jumble:

plum

and a much-needed weights sesh. I’ve been neglecting iron pumping for the past week in favor of amazing yoga and dance classes πŸ˜‰ This morning, it felt SO good to focus and get a quick and effective weights sesh in.

Post-weights smoothie:

smoothie (3)

-1/2 C pumpkin

-1 banana

-1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-Hefty blob of almond butter

-pinch of Stevia and spirulina

-sea salt, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg

-1.5 C almond milk

cacao nibs for ganish

Redonk.

smoothie (2)

Last night, after I got home from Dance Trance (which was AMAZING! Two of my work friends were there and one of the new songs was β€œLove the Way You Lie” – a ballet/lyrical/hip hop combo) and had a little art project to work on.

inspiration board

A vision board!

As ya’ll know, I’m no stranger to the inspiration board (and recently re-visited mine), but for work, we had to create a 10-year vision board. The idea is that you make a board including statements of how you’re life is going 10 years from now. The purpose is to see these accomplishments and take steps NOW to make them happen.

Here’s a closer glimpse at mine:

inspiration board (2)

inspiration board (3)

What does it say?

10 years from now…

-My family consists of myself, my pilot husband, two kids and two dogs (Note: The Pilot wants a thousand kids and I want two, so we’ll see what happens haha)

-I practice vinyasa yoga 4x a week and dance because it makes my heart happy

-We live in a house with high ceilings, neutral colors, with a huge kitchen and entertain often (A big kitchen is the #1 most important thing to me! Two ovens would rock my world)

-I weight train on a regular basis (3x a week)

-My vegan catering business and online bakery sales are consistently increasing

-We are debt-free: no car payments, school loans, nada (I have a car payment and the Pilot has school loans, so to get these out of our lives would be glorious)

-My agent has just contacted me regarding a second book deal (You have to have one book deal to have a second… so I better get crackalackin)

Well I’m off to run a couple of errands, take a dance class and then head to work!

See ya later today with a Fashion Friday post! I’m thinking fall sweaters/jackets…. πŸ™‚

xoxo,

Gina

Thank you – I am going to create a vision board this weekend!

  2. Morgan @ Life After Bagels on October 1, 2010 at 10:10 am

I think I should make a vision board that includes two ovens as well, great idea, hehehe!

  3. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on October 1, 2010 at 10:10 am

Your vision board is wonderful Gina! I know you won’t disclose your workplace, but I am so curious now because of this board — what a wonderful company if it has you focus on these types of goals πŸ™‚

Totally with you on the debt free part — Jason and I paid off 30K in credit card debt over the past year and we are currently attacking our car payments πŸ™‚ Soon we’ll only have our mortgage and that will be attacked next!

    • Laura J. on October 1, 2010 at 10:48 am

Wow that’s amazing that you paid of 30k of debt in a year!! My hubby and I are in the process of trying to pay off about 10k– any tips or advice?? πŸ™‚

      • Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on October 1, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Read Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover book and follow his advice!

        • Laura J. on October 2, 2010 at 12:41 pm

          Awesome! Thanks πŸ™‚

  4. Laura on October 1, 2010 at 10:14 am

This is a really inspirational idea! Definitely something I’m going to have to try and then maybe through in a few steps on how I plan on getting to those goals.

  5. allison @ thesundayflog on October 1, 2010 at 10:14 am

very cool. i love the 10 year plan. i would give anything for a huge and beautiful kitchen too!

  6. Laury @ thefitnessdish on October 1, 2010 at 10:15 am

LOVE the vision board! I definitely want 2 ovens one day…one of my clients has 2 ovens, they are HUGE foodies….their kitchen is ridic..I want it! High ceilings are on my priority list too πŸ™‚

  7. BethT on October 1, 2010 at 10:20 am

What is with dudes who want a million kids….Pilot and my hubby need to go away somewhere and have a reality check, hehe πŸ™‚

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 10:23 am

      hahah AMEN

  8. jenna on October 1, 2010 at 10:24 am

i love the idea of a vision board. I just wonder, do they really work? do you find your inspiration board really ‘inspirational’. i just feel like it would be something i pass every day but it wouldn’t give me real motivation. ??

your 10 year goals are really great/reasonable goals! i like that!! a 1000 kids? oh my..he’s crazy! πŸ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 10:25 am

they’ve always worked for me! i find that for the short term ones i make, about 75% actually happens πŸ™‚

  9. Jessica@tastyandtrim on October 1, 2010 at 10:25 am

That pumpkin smoothie looks SO good. I love the idea of creating a vision board! I am definitely going to make one. Thanks for the great idea πŸ™‚

  10. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on October 1, 2010 at 10:37 am

Your vision boards are so inspirational! I just bought ingredients for pumpkin smoothies/oats πŸ™‚ I was thinking mesquite and maca would also go nicely in them (you’ve got me hooked on them btw).

If your new gym offers BodyPump you should try it! Great total body weights sesh in 60 mins!

  11. Felicia (A taste of Health with Balance) on October 1, 2010 at 10:38 am

i am on the pumpkin train now (previously wasn’t too crazy about it in anything other than muffins/pie). I am sooo making this smoothie! Question though- do you really taste the almond butter in your smoothies? I feel like it would just disappear.. I really rather slather it on something where I’ll really taste it, but I was just curious.. And I love a good weight session! Sometime I go a little too hardcore in cardio, and once I do a really hard lift I see results even quicker. Love it πŸ™‚ And one of my goals is to make an inspiration/vision board.. maybe this month!

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 10:53 am

i put the blob of almond butter on top instead of blending it in- this way you can taste it πŸ™‚

  12. rachael on October 1, 2010 at 10:40 am

Love your vision board! My hubby wanted “5 to 7” kids until we had one. πŸ™‚

  13. Laura J. on October 1, 2010 at 10:42 am

I’m inspired to make one now! πŸ™‚ Just from seeing how driven and motivated you are on your blog, I have no doubt you’ll accomplish all your goals and more πŸ™‚

I just had a question about the pilots student loans- I thought the military paid or reimbursed you for your education? (If this is too personal- just ignore the question πŸ™‚ )

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 10:54 am

they do, but he went to a military academy school for the army and then realized he wanted to do air force- so we have to pay back the loans from the first military academy since he decided to switch

  14. Crystal on October 1, 2010 at 10:43 am

I love your inspirational borad! All things great of course! And the pumpkin smoothie looks to die for πŸ™‚ — side note I ordered a foam roller yesterday from open sky- really exicted for it to get here!!! πŸ™‚

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 10:54 am

      ahhhh! you’ll love it πŸ™‚

  15. Katie on October 1, 2010 at 10:46 am

    Love that Gaga song!!!

  16. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on October 1, 2010 at 10:59 am

Two ovens, you mean business! We had 2 in the house I grew up in, but I never really appreciated it until I was grown and on my own and had just the one (if that). 2 ovens would be BAD ASS. Helloooooo baking cookies in 15 minutes total.

Well, congrats again on whatever your new job is because judging from the evidence, it must be pretty inspiring.

And I am jealous of Dance Trance. I don’t get to dance enough and it’s like this constant itch I can’t scratch. I may have to remedy that professionally, if ya know what I mean. Sounds like I need a vision board too!

  17. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on October 1, 2010 at 11:05 am

I feel like every blogger woke up on the same page this morning. Everyone’s drinking these pumpkin smoothies. They must be good.

What’s with guys and tons of kids? My husband wants a bunch, too. Me? I’d be good with two. And since the woman has to deal with that pain, I think she gets to decide. πŸ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 11:06 am

      i couldn’t agree more

  18. Peggy on October 1, 2010 at 11:12 am

AHH! You, Oh She Glows, and HTP all had pumpkin smoothies this morning. I need to make one, stat. They look incredible.

  19. Heather (Heather's Dish) on October 1, 2010 at 11:13 am

i’m 100% with you on the massive kitchen thing. we love to entertain, and i would be totally fine with the kitchen being twice the size of our master suite. i want it to be ridiculous!

  20. Whitney @ Whitinspired on October 1, 2010 at 11:14 am

I love the 10 year inspiration board idea. It has to help getting something to look at every once in awhile to remind you of what you’re working towards. It’s so easy to fall into the daily routine and lose track of your dreams.

  21. Ilana on October 1, 2010 at 11:21 am

Ahh I’m so sure I know where you work … if so I’m majah jealous.

Last year when you posted about your vision board, not gonna lie, I thought it was cute but kinda pointless. Nine months later I really want to make one. This is proof of how much I’ve changed my life – and your blog has been a MAJOR inspiration to me. Thank you so much.

Sometimes it’s hard for me to think of what my “ten year goals” are – I mean I barely have a vision for one year from now sometimes, how can I see what’s in ten years? But I guess that’s the point, I have to create a vision to have a future. I love your board. I have a thousand magazines in my basement and it’s a rainy day here. Bettah get crackin!

  22. Laura S on October 1, 2010 at 11:28 am

I LOVE VISION BOARDS, This post inspired me to make one for what I am doing now, 5, and 10 years from now! πŸ™‚ I love love love your blog, and I just launched mine, it is in the baby beginning stages of blogging, but I am striving to make it great! I have also read Good to Great for a company I worked for! GREAT GREAT Book! Happy Friday girl!

  23. Paige @Running Around Normal on October 1, 2010 at 11:37 am

Neat project for work. And I love that idea. It really forces you to think about it. We’re automatically trained to think about what’s next and what’s best for us NOW, but what about 10 years from now?
I’ve been loving pumpkin smoothies lately too πŸ™‚

  24. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on October 1, 2010 at 11:48 am

Love your board!!! I also made one about a month ago which I keep posted on my closet door so I can remind myself every day. If you’d like to check it out, the link is http://bit.ly/9tikRu

Can’t wait for your Fashion Friday post! I’m looking around for a new fall-y jacket, and looking forward to seeing some ideas πŸ˜€

  25. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on October 1, 2010 at 11:52 am

I love your board…I keep meaning to make one but I don’t even know where to begin!! Funny, I see myself in about the exact same place in 15 years πŸ™‚

  26. Krystina on October 1, 2010 at 12:05 pm

Your goals sound great and totally feasible!

  27. Krystina on October 1, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Also you totally inspired me to buy cacao nibs and I’ve been garnishing my smoothies with them too. Love the crunch!

  28. Tiffany (Stuffed with Fluff) on October 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Your vision board looks great! I have a lot of goals for myself, and I’ve never really created a board b/c I was too scared to put them out in the open. I need to face my fear, b/c things won’t happen if I don’t take the steps to make them happen!

    Happy friday =)

  29. kelli on October 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm

OMG the best smoothie I have been loving is 1 cup delicata squash, 1 packet or half serving vega vanilla chai 1/2 cup almond milk and tsp cinnamon. Oh my heavens so good! and I am not a fan of sweets πŸ™‚ Woo I am going to orlando for the epcot food and wine festival in november (my favorite band is playing for the eat to the beat concert series :D)

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 1:01 pm

      that sounds AMAZING

      • kelli on October 1, 2010 at 1:26 pm

TRY it! It is like gena’s but not with butternut squash (me no likey)! It made me cave and buy a tub of vega online $25 cheaper than WF.

  30. hippierunner on October 1, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Awesome goals! And I have to check out that song, working out to Gaga is amazing!

  31. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on October 1, 2010 at 12:45 pm

Love the vision board! I hear ya on the two oven thing–> my parents built their home with two ovens, and it is AMAZING during the holidays and for entertaining! Best. Idea. Ever.

I’m going to get to work on a vision board of my own!! πŸ˜€

  32. Leanne @ Simplicitlee on October 1, 2010 at 12:47 pm

I really want to do a vision board! I need to set aside some time to think about what I want out of my life & get creative & put it on display!

Those are some great goals m’dear πŸ™‚

  33. Laughter-Loving Stacy on October 1, 2010 at 12:49 pm

A vision board sounds exactly like something I need to do! I use to make those all the time!

Oh, and I signed up for lessons to become a Group Fitness Instructor! I’m pretty nervous and excited about it! πŸ™‚

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 12:59 pm

      whoo hoo!! very exciting

  34. Laughter-Loving Stacy on October 1, 2010 at 12:50 pm

OH- and that smoothie looks sooo good! Do you use canned pumpkin?

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 12:59 pm

      yes

  35. Kristina @ spabettie on October 1, 2010 at 12:53 pm

I totally hear you on the two ovens thing… a nice big kitchen is #1 to me… we’re looking at houses right now and if I don’t like the kitchen I’m done! πŸ™‚

I love how often you update your vision boards… they are great motivators and can be VERY powerful! πŸ˜€

  36. You’ve inspired me to do another vision board. I like the 10 year idea πŸ™‚

  37. Tina on October 1, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I like your visions. I think its so great to picture your life in the future and take active steps toward making it happen. Although we also have to be cautious not to get frustrated for not being there yet or forget about our current lives either. I’m not saying you do that…I just know its something I’ve faced before because I have such big hopes and dreams too. πŸ™‚

And you’ll have two kids…he’ll learn. LOL

  38. Ashley on October 1, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Looove the inspiration board! I make boost self esteem boards for my fridge, with all the postive qualities I admire about myself and pictures of things I’ve accomplished that make me proud of myself. It really puts a smile on my face when I’m feeling down.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on doing Bikram or Hot Yoga (like vinyasa) on a rest day? Does it still count as a rest day? Today was my long run and tomorrow is my rest day, but I’d like to take one of those two yoga classes and I was wondering if it would defeat the purpose of a rest day or would be ok.

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 1:16 pm

i consider bikram more rest day quality than power– i’d just take it a little easier and use it more for stretching purposes

      • Ashley on October 1, 2010 at 2:20 pm

That was my thinking too, thanks for your input : )

  39. Katherine on October 1, 2010 at 1:35 pm

    I love this!

I think it’s so easy to forget about your goals and just breeze through life (I know I have the past few years!), but with your vision board, it’s right in your face! I definitely need something tangible to look at every day as a constant reminder or else I get lazy. I’ll be making one of these…thanks for the idea!

  40. Jocelyn @ Peace.Love.Nutrition on October 1, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Visions boards are so important! It’s great to have goals and to see where you want to be πŸ™‚

  41. Brittany @ Bites from Bee Louise on October 1, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Ahhhh I need to make that pumpkin smoothie right. now.

I love your boards- I got the idea for an inspiration board from your blog, and have been making one per month since the spring! I agree with you- most of the goals end up getting accomplished, and those that don’t get to carry on to next month’s inspiration board πŸ™‚

I have a question about catering/baking for business. For these, would you be required to prepare your foods in a foodservice-grade kitchen? If so, would you make your own kitchen up to standards, or would you look into renting a separate space?

These are things I’ve always wondered about the business of healthy food prepping πŸ™‚

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Fitnessista on October 1, 2010 at 2:04 pm

i’d probably rent a space just to simplify things- usually they want you to have a 3 compartment sink, drain in the floor, and separate bathroom if you do it in your house

      • Melissa on October 1, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Don’t know if you saw the email I sent you. πŸ™‚ But, speaking of baking (or non-baking) for business, I noticed that all sorts of homemade edibles are being sold on Etsy. It doesn’t look like they are regulated in any way (this may be bad or good!) nor do they seem to limit the volume one can do. They even have raw stuff for sale.

        • Fitnessista on October 2, 2010 at 11:16 pm

hey girl! sorry i haven’t responded yet- i’ve been slacking on emails and feel horrible.
i might have to go for it… i just don’t want someone to be upset that i don’t have a commercial kitchen, ya know??

  42. Cailin @ Stir Crazy on October 1, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Such wonderful goals to work towards! Thanks for sharing!

  43. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on October 1, 2010 at 2:13 pm

“get a quick and effective weights sesh in. “— oh that’s awesome, glad you’re pumping the iron. After 10 yrs of yoga, I thought I didnt “need” weights. Wrong. I need both. Yoga + weights = perfect for me and what I enjoy!

Love the vision board. I think starting with 2 kids and working upwards to pilot’s goals is a good starting place πŸ™‚ After all, you’re poppin’ em out, not him πŸ™‚

Seriously, love your goals, visions, dreams…it’s inspiring to see others not be afraid to shoot high. Two books, a fabulous personal life, and just put it all out there for everyone to see! Love that you want what you want, you’re not afraid to want it (I swear some women are afraid of wanting nice things/success) and I can’t wait to see all these things HAPPEN!!!!

Hi Gina! I’ve recently begun doing Bikram yoga, with which I know you have experience. I have heard that some are opposed to this form of yoga for reason that basically boil down to it being so different from other forms of yoga. I would love to hear your perspective on that and maybe see a post about it?! Also, I’m love some tips on how I can combine bikram 4-5x week with other exercise to have a complete workout regimen. Thanks! love your bloggy πŸ™‚

I love making vision boards! It is actually probably time I make a new one soon – I try to make one a few times a year, whenever I feel something in my life, such as priorities or dreams have changed. I like to have a vision baord to show me how my future could possibly be if I stick to my goals.

I wish I could work for a company which lets us make vision boards!!
