Goat Cheese Repertoire

Heyyyyyy 😀 Happy almost-Friday! How’s your morning going?

 flowers

Mine has been bueno so far! Lot’s of to-dos, but I’m ready to ninja kick them 😉

I  still managed to have a taste of Indian Food Wednesday yesterday:

curry

An omelet with 1 egg, 2 egg whites, steamed organic broccoli topped with curry sauce.

omelet

It was GLORIOUS (and really made me wish we had some roti in the house), but the kicker was the cheese that changed my life:

cheese

SLICED goat cheese. I had never seen such a thing! In Trader Joe’s, my mom walked up to me holding the above pack of cheese and said “Don’t you want this?” Do I want it? Is the pope Catholic? Trader Joe’s has dramatically increased my goat cheese repertoire and for that I am forever grateful. First goat brie, goat cheese medallions, and now sliced goat cheese. Oh my 🙂

balls (2)

I also snacked on an amazeball before bed 😉

This morning, I just finished my daily green juice (cucumber, romaine, green apple and lemon) and am trying to decide what I want for b-fast.

juice

It’s one of those days where cold and hot oats sound meh, eggs are out because I had that for dinner last night, guess it’s time to get creative 😉

I hope you have an amazing day and I’ll see ya laterrrrrr <3

I need a Trader Joe’s in Florida! My closest one is in GA about 9 or 10 hours away!

  6. Moni'sMeals on January 20, 2011 at 11:00 am

sliced goat cheese! woohoo. I had no idea either.

  7. Stefanie on January 20, 2011 at 11:03 am

Trader Joe’s has totally upped my goat cheese consumption! Especially with the great little medallions! 🙂

  8. Sabine @ thefruitpursuit on January 20, 2011 at 11:03 am

I just made my very first juice: 2 tomatoes, 4 romaine stalks (not the whole thing), piece of cuke, some carrots, 1 red apple, juice of one(!) lemon + sucanat.

I really needed to go at it with the lemon and some sugar otherwise it was pretty inedible (unslurpable?) but now it was quite alright. it just makes my tummy hurt :(. not used to glucking away that much veg i guess :o! did you have this at first?

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 11:19 am

that’s a LOT of veg- try one of each first. i’d nix the tomatoes and do the carrots, romaine, apple, 1/2 lemon, 1 stalk of romaine (the whole thing) and a little Stevia

  9. Laura @ prettylittlewords on January 20, 2011 at 11:05 am

I almost GASPED when I saw the sliced goat cheese!!! How is it? I’m so curious!

I’ve been thinking about trying the goat cheese medallions from TJs, but was wondering if they’re much different than the crumbled stuff or a regular log. Aside from the built-in portion control, what do you like about em?

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 11:16 am

      it was DELICIOUS!
i just like the medallions for convenience- they taste the same but when i have a log, things get a little messy in the cheese baggie

      • Laura @ prettylittlewords on January 20, 2011 at 11:26 am

Ahhh okay, I’m officially convinced: gotta try the sliced stuff. The logs really do get super messy, that’s why I always went with the crumbles.

Have you ever tried mixing a few shakes (or whatever portion you’d get from a bit of a medallion) into jarred pasta sauce? If I’m craving something creamy, quick and comforting, I’ll mix that in with some whole wheat pasta and nuke some veggies. HEAVEN.

  10. Jackie @ Baking Charms on January 20, 2011 at 11:05 am

I need to remind myself to pick up that cheese during my next trip to TJs! Noting it in my planner now 🙂

    Is that your studio?!

  11. Tyler on January 20, 2011 at 11:07 am

I realized my USAA credit card is a rewards card (only had it for 3 years…)and used my rewards last night to get myself a juicer! I’m pretty stoked! I lurve me some Naked Juice but the $3.50 price tag isn’t so cute.

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 11:15 am

I am going to get some of the sun warrior greens for sure! Right now I am using amazing grass greens and blended with other things they are fine but in water not so good. Thanks for turning me on to such great new products! peace and light! mary frances

      you;ll looooooove it

  20. Nicole on January 20, 2011 at 12:27 pm

Question about your juice…With what you put in it, does it taste sour, or no because of the stevia? I am wanting to try to make some, but I don’t like sour things, so I am not sure what to add to mine. Any suggestions fo me?

  21. Jess@atasteofconfidence on January 20, 2011 at 12:40 pm

SO jealous of sliced goat cheese! I am loving your pics of flowers lately.

  22. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on January 20, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Oooooh…that IS a good discovery!!!! Yum!

  23. jen @ taste life on January 20, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Wow, I really wish we had a Trader Joe’s nearby. My grocer sells some goat cheese, but it’s the soft kind. I did find Goat Gouda at Earth Fare, but I bet it would be much more affordable at TJ’s!

I didn’t feel like oats this morning, either! I made a tofu scramble with veggies and covered it in organic ketchup – hit the spot!

  24. Kate on January 20, 2011 at 12:47 pm

Oooh I have yet to see that sliced goat cheese. I do love TJ’s goat brie. My fav right now though is goat gouda, which I have to get from Whole Foods, or Whole Paycheck as you call it. I would LOVE to see TJ’s start carrying a less expensive version.

  25. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on January 20, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Just reading this post made me realize why I always love your recipes: they’re so SIMPLE, yet unique at the same time. Never complicated but always creative!

The sauce brings me back to our lunch date in Curry Hill. So delicious!

  26. Sadie Dax on January 20, 2011 at 12:55 pm

After you juice in the morning, do you just rinse off the juicer parts and set aside? Or put them in the dishwaher? I have a juicer and want to use it more, but the cleaning! Ugh! I’m wondering if just rinsing off the parts really well and putting in the dishwasher once or twice a week would work.

  27. Heather (heathers dish) on January 20, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Goat cheese is so amazing…I’d be forever indebted to TJ’s too if there was one on Colorado!

  28. Annie D @ Annie's Simple Life on January 20, 2011 at 1:28 pm

  29. Gillian Young on January 20, 2011 at 1:31 pm

  30. Natalie @ Will Jog For Food on January 20, 2011 at 1:34 pm

    I need a Trader Joe’s!!

    The amazeballs look amazeballs 🙂

  31. staygold on January 20, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I recently found some really affordable goat CHEDDAR at trader joe’s and I hadn’t been able to find that anywhere else, not even the two whole foods that I live by! So I was really happy.

I was wondering, from your base of knowledge, why are goat (or even sheep?) milk-based products preferable to cow milk? Is it that goat milk is easier to digest because of it’s molecular/enzymatic structure? I love goat milk-based products and it’s an easy swap in place of most cow milk-based products, but I’m just looking for something more to back this up. I know Natalia Rose is big on goat cheese in her raw food detox diet books, so maybe she explains in there?

    Any insight would be great!

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 2:50 pm

natalia explains it perfectly- and yes it’s a better choice because it digests more quickly

  32. Wendy Elliot on January 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm

Just bought some super greens… thanks for the info.

  33. rebecca lustig on January 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm

i LOVE that curry simmer sauce! TJs has fantastic hidden finds in jars

  34. Keri on January 20, 2011 at 2:09 pm

SLICED goat cheese?! Wow, that’s worth being excited over… most definitely.

I tried the Winter Shape Up for the first time yesterday and it totally kicked my booty! In the best way possible of course. 🙂

  35. Christin@purplebirdblog on January 20, 2011 at 2:20 pm

I get sliced goat cheese at Costco, and I know what you mean… a total life changer right therrrr! I am anxiously awaiting a TJ’s package from a swap I did with a fellow blogger (she is sending me TJ’s goods since I don’t have one around here and I sent her some Austin-y awesomeness)… I really hope it gets here todayyyyyy!

  36. Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten Free on January 20, 2011 at 2:22 pm

I love curry anything. That is such a good idea to just use it as a sauce on veggies.

  37. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on January 20, 2011 at 2:27 pm

I haven’t seen the sliced goat cheese yet! Trader Joe’s is proof that god loves us and wants up to be happy. 😉

  38. Mandy (theamazonprincess) on January 20, 2011 at 2:30 pm

That juice looks soooo refreshing! You are inching me closer every day to finally getting a juicer! 😉

(The flowers are also gooorgeous I love the color.)

I really need to try some Supergreens – I’ve been seeing it all over the place lately! Goat cheese is something I wish I could like but just don’t. (This is probably sad for you to hear – sorry!!) Those amazeballs however.. I already know I love those!! 🙂

Sliced goat cheese?!? I need that now!

  41. Kelly on January 20, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Have you tried Goat Cheddar? It’s my most favorite cheese ever! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 4:21 pm

yup, raw goat cheddar is even better 🙂

  42. Kara on January 20, 2011 at 3:15 pm

It’s so good to see goat cheese options out there! Now if my baby keeps her cow’s milk protein allergy, I know to look at Trader Joe’s for stuff for her!

  43. Leanne (For Health's Sake) on January 20, 2011 at 3:46 pm

I have a reader’s request for you — Could you do a video of how to make a green juice using a juicer?! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 4:21 pm

      sure!

  44. Ashley on January 20, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Every time I try to make green smoothies it turns out awful and extra pulpy. Maybe it’s the blender I’m using?

    • Fitnessista on January 20, 2011 at 4:20 pm

for juices, you’ll need a juicer– blending the veggies in a blender turns them into more of a soup

  45. Gina on January 20, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Why oh WHY does my TJ’s not carry the goat cheese medallions…I want them so bad! They do, however, have goat cream chese and it is fantastic!!!

  46. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 20, 2011 at 4:05 pm

I love that the last 2 posts started with the 1st pic being flowers. I didnt open this post for the longest time b/c i thought it was your LAST post. Nope, you had me tricked with 2 flower photos as your opening pics 🙂

Sliced goat’s cheese..yes a nice TJs find and sometimes goat cheese is kinda hard to slice. That saves on energy/time right there.

Have a great day…Zumba, amazaballs 🙂 and your green juice…looks like its off to a great start already!

  47. Sara (Miles & Manhattan) on January 20, 2011 at 4:55 pm

i LOVE goat’s cheese now – you inspired me to try it! You know what it tastes amazing with? Mango chutney. Random, but true. Try it next Indian Food Wednesday!

  49. Namaste Gurl on January 20, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I’ve had the sliced goat cheese from TJ’s– HEAB told me about it. Definitely got a funky kick to it, but I really enjoyed it and it didn’t bother my stomach like most dairy cheeses do 🙂
    Have a good day!

  50. Christine (The Raw Project) on January 20, 2011 at 5:26 pm

The juice looks great! I need to use my juicer more, but too busy on week days and smoothies will have to do. 🙂 The amazeballs look great!
