Just Fondue It

Hiiiii ๐Ÿ˜€ Happy Friday! Anything fun planned for this weekend?

I pretty much disappeared from the earth yesterday (hardly tweeted or facebooked!)- I was under the weather, and so was Bella. I left the house to take her to the vet โ€“sheโ€™s much better now- but spent 90% of the day crawled up on the couch watching old episodes of Greyโ€™s Anatomy. Thank you so much for the beautiful anniversary wishes! They definitely made me feel better, along with these gorgeous flowers from the swoon master himself.

flowers

Roses + stargazer lilies, which are making the house smell heavenly

flowers (2)

Gorgeeeeeous.

When he got home from work, I didnโ€™t look like I was going anywhere (still in my jammies), but he said that Iโ€™d have to eat dinner anyway and coerced me to go to a late-night Melting Pot dinner.

Heโ€™s tricky like that ๐Ÿ˜‰

fondue

We love Melting Pot for an anniversary spot- they even put roses on your table, which you can take home, take a photo of you (we still have one from our first anniversary) and a card. Itโ€™s pretty cute.

table

We got the usual โ€œBig Night Outโ€ (go big or go home, eh?) with the usual appetizers and a spicy cheese dipping sauce:

fondue

[My fave were the green apples and carrots]

Salad

tucson 014

main course + all the dippers

main course

We have our cooking strategy down to a science: order extra shrimp instead of the pork, cook the veggies and seafood first (we share the shrimp and lobster), and then I help the Pilot cook the meat (chicken and beef) for him to eat.

fondue (2)

and the *other* main course ๐Ÿ™‚

dessert

Dessert!!

The Pilot kept moaning about being full, but I tried to explain to him that sometimes dessert is just something you eat. Not something you necessarily have to be *hungry* for ๐Ÿ˜‰

For our chocolate fondue, we rolled with dark chocolate and peanut butter. In my dreams, Iโ€™d like to swim in it with my mouth open. It would burn my skin, but thatโ€™s a risk Iโ€™d be willing to take ๐Ÿ™‚

Since it was a special occasion, they put us in one of the โ€œcurtain boothsโ€ which has a curtain that closes it off. It was kind of weird to not be able to see any of our neighbors, but Iโ€™m pretty sure they could hear us chatting and joking around.

It was a wonderful dinner.. Iโ€™m glad he dragged me out of the house for it <3

anniversary

Tons on the agenda today! We leave for Philly this afternoon and I havenโ€™t packed a single thing. You know what we say about waiting until the last minuteโ€ฆ. [then it only takes a minute]

See ya from the airport!

xoxo

You would like to swim in the chocolate peanut butter sauce, I’d like to swim in the cheese sauce. My gosh, I love fondue. Glad you and Bella are feeling better!

Oh, I love the Melting Pot. “They” also took that away from Omaha. Seriously, it’s killing me. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love your dessert quote: “I tried to explain to him that sometimes dessert is just something you eat. Not something you necessarily have to be *hungry* for.” Well said. ๐Ÿ™‚

We celebrate our anniversary at Melting Pot too! In fact, two of them were at the melting pot in Tucson while we were in college. ๐Ÿ™‚

Those flowers are gorgeous and I’m glad you felt well enough to enjoy your night ๐Ÿ™‚

    Safe travels to Philly!

  16. Maria@La_Piattini on August 19, 2011 at 11:17 am

We go to the Melting Pot for our anniversary too! It’s so delicious but can definitely be expensive so we kinda save it for that special night.

  18. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on August 19, 2011 at 11:22 am

I’ve never been to the melting pot before! I don’t think there’s one in D.C. actually.. maybe in nearby VA, I’ll have to check. It seems like a delicious date night restaurant, though!

Such a fun way to celebrate your anniversary! I’m glad the Pilot was able to get you out of the house for it ๐Ÿ™‚ Never been to the Melting Pot; here in MN it’s in an area we don’t often drive by, so I always forget it’s there…until I see/hear about someone else’s awesome experience! Have a great wknd!

  24. Katie on August 19, 2011 at 11:28 am

I love melting pot!! Congrats to you both!!!! I’ve never commented, but my marine comes home from deployment tomorrow and in my free time in the past couple days I find myself teetering over to the computer to watch the pilot coming home video. Of course it’s waterworks every time. You are such an inspiration and reading your blog has helped me get through this difficult time so much. Thank you for everything… I seriously feel like I know you know haha. Have a great trip!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful anniversary! My boyfriend took me their for my bday a few years ago and it was so fun and yummy. Dessert is the best part! And I remember we sat in one of their more secluded booths and they also gave me a card. Gotta love the little touches ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on August 19, 2011 at 11:35 am

I’ve wanted to go to the melting pot for evvvvvver! In November, it will be my husband & my 5 year “dating ” anniversary. I know it sounds silly to celebrate a dating anniversary since we are married now (can’t belive its been two weeks already!), but I think being together 5 years is worth a celebration… and a fancy dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

Hopefully if I mention its for an anniversary we shall get a curtain booth too!

I hope you and Bella are feeling better today!!

    • Ashley on August 19, 2011 at 12:56 pm

we still do a little something on our dating anniversary, too. they way i think about it is that we’ve had the first anniversary a long longer than we’ve had the second. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2011 at 9:22 pm

we celebrate our date-aversary too ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Marguerite Miller on August 19, 2011 at 11:37 am

We love going to the Melting Pot! We have done the Big Night Out twice, but it is just too much food! The first time, we had to take the dessert fondue to go! So we usually just roll with the cheese and chocolate now and sometimes add a salad! Ours does flowers or balloons and a picture and a card on the table for special occasions! I won fondue twice last year through their FB page!

  29. Erica June on August 19, 2011 at 11:40 am

I am so sorry to hear you were not feeling your best for your special day! Good thing you have a special man to make things better! I don’t think it would be possible to combine chocolate and peanut butter and have it not be delicious enough to swim in.

  32. Sara K on August 19, 2011 at 12:20 pm

So sweet! Lillies are my mama’s favourite flowers! We have a Melting Pot in my town but I’ve never been…I should though considering I not only love cheese fondue but the chocolate one!

  40. Erin @ GoBananasBlog on August 19, 2011 at 1:10 pm

We went for our anniversary too and just got the dessert. A manager randomly came over and told us that extras of anything but the cheesecake are always complimentary. Which is pretty darn awesome!

That’s good to know! I have been to the Melting Pot tons!! When we lived in Myrtle Beach, we spent MANY new year’s eves, anniversaries, bdays, etc at the M.P. And I ALWAYS saved room for dessert fondue..the best part of the evening ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry you were sick and blah yesterday. Hope you’re feeling better and that you have a blast at HLS!!!

“and I havenโ€™t packed a single thing. You know what we say about waiting until the last minuteโ€ฆ. [then it only takes a minute]” <—- NEVER heard that…and I love it ๐Ÿ™‚

Love Melting Pot!! We went there for our first (dating) anniversary and did the exact same thing ๐Ÿ™‚ My favorite is the chocolate sauce with peanut butter and the rice crispies dipped in it! We had a booth with the curtains too and when I came back from the restroom I almost couldn’t find our table! Glad you are feeling better.
