Like a baby

Hey! How are you? Hope your morning is going well <3

I slept last night. Like, all night, through the night. If youโ€™ve been following along on the family page, then you know this is a pretty huge deal.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that our new mattress came yesterday?

mattress

Bella called dibs before I could get all of the bedding on itโ€ฆ

23b1ca4d0b7e4527a6e3eeb48b221741_7

It also might have had something to do with the carby blanket I wrapped my soul in pre-slumber.

baked pasta

Baked pasta with goat cheese ๐Ÿ™‚

All I did was make a batch of my homemade or a la jar marinara sauce, added in some organic garlic and herb turkey sausage + a boatload fresh basil

marinara

tossed with pasta (brown rice spirals for me, penne for the Pilot)

pasta

put into a baking dish (with lots of cheese for the Pilot), topped with goat cheese and baked at 375 for 15 minutes.

With roasted fennel and onion, with olive oil, sea salt and balsamic:

dinner

It was the Pilotโ€™s first time trying fennel- he was a fan. He was like, โ€œHmm, what is this thing? I like it.โ€ in between crunching away ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning after my glorious slumber, Iโ€™m off to take Bell for a walk then hit the weights, post office and commissary.

See ya later with a Family post <3

xoxo

Gina

Headโ€™s up: Todayโ€™s Living Social deal is for WHOLE PAYCHECK!!! Amazing.

Also, if youโ€™ve been wanting to try Sun Warrior, itโ€™s todayโ€™s OpenSky promo.

Something to think:

โ€œDonโ€™t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.โ€

This living social deal IS BLOWING UP THE INTERNETS!!!! It’s like Christmas in September. Make sure the pilot grabs one too!

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2011 at 11:13 am

i will! and my mom, and my nana…..

  2. Sara K on September 13, 2011 at 11:13 am

    Ahh fennel is delicious indeed
Speaking of mattresses, I really need to get myself to IKEA and get a proper one- been sleeping on an air mattress since I’ve moved into my new digs

    • Sarah Anne on September 13, 2011 at 11:21 am

Oh goodness, do yourself a favour and save your pennies for a better mattress. Lots of things are great at ikea, mattresses are not one. At least my experience was not great. I cursed it until we could get a new one. Your back will thank you! (sorry to be a Debbie Downer!)

  3. Moni'sMeals on September 13, 2011 at 11:15 am

Glad you slept, I understand how different that can feel and what an impact it can have on ones day. ๐Ÿ™‚ (the next day you actually feel normal!)

I love your simple pasta dish that you have going on, yum. Fennel is so good roasted too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bella, so cute on the bed and I really enjoy the quote, so very accurate.

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2011 at 11:20 am

i do feel normal! it’s so weird!!!

  4. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on September 13, 2011 at 11:15 am

I have yet to try goat cheese… is the flavor quite strong? Everytime I see it at the grocery store I think of you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2011 at 11:20 am

no, the flavor is beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚ kind of tangy, and perfect

      • AJ on September 13, 2011 at 11:54 am

I agree! Goat cheese is amazing. Eating it with pasta is an out of body experience.

  5. mi-an d. on September 13, 2011 at 11:16 am

  6. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on September 13, 2011 at 11:17 am

Super excited about Living Social’s whole paycheck deal AND your Sun Warrior promo. I got vanilla last time and have been waiting so I can get the chocolate! Super pumped!!

  9. amy on September 13, 2011 at 11:20 am

I love that quote at the end. I needed that today!

  10. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on September 13, 2011 at 11:21 am

Great quote today Gina!! I love mixing balsamic in with my tomato/pasta messes too. So delicious! Sadly I don’ think the Whole Paycheck deal applies to Canada because when I check out the site, it shows local deals for the cities near me instead. I hope you enjoy it though! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Rachel on September 13, 2011 at 11:23 am

Oooooh a Tempurpedic. I sooooooo want one of those. Not in this year’s budget, but I am getting the pillow. Yay for sleep!

  12. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on September 13, 2011 at 11:23 am

    I love that quote!

And yay for a full nights sleep! I can’t wait to get to have a nice bed. And good dishes and wall decorations. Things on my to-do list once I graduate college and become a real grown-up! ;p

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2011 at 11:26 am

you have time- enjoy college as long as you can ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Sarah on September 13, 2011 at 11:23 am

I just needed to tell you how jealous I am that you got a good nights sleep!!!!!!!! I’m at about the same point in my pregnancy as you are, and I haven’t had a good nights sleep in FOREVER!!! Between trips to the batheroom and trying to get comfy, sleep seems impossible! Hope you feel rested and enjoy your day!!!

And that dinner looks amazing… I think we’ll have to try it tonight!

  14. Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine on September 13, 2011 at 11:26 am

Wonderful quote Gina. ๐Ÿ™‚ So true!

  15. Laura on September 13, 2011 at 11:29 am

This is too funny, I literally JUST bought the living social deal for whole foods (before I read your blog!) AND that Howard Thurman quote was the quote I used on my senior yearbook graduation page <3

  16. Kristen @ Chocolate Covered Kristen on September 13, 2011 at 11:33 am

We just got a tempur-pedic a few weeks ago. Ah-may-zing. It’s crazy what a difference a good mattress makes.

  17. Holly @ The Runny Egg on September 13, 2011 at 11:35 am

Fennel + onion sounds so good — and the whole dinner looks amazing.

Did you get the sort of bed that you can move up and down to recline or lift your legs up? I really want one of those in tempur-pedic style of course.

  18. Claire@Navigating North on September 13, 2011 at 11:49 am

    Gina,
That bed looks super super comfy and I bet it feels good on the preggo body! You have to be the cutest pregnant lady I have ever seen. Seriously…I have baby fever because of you! The pasta looks delish…something about wrapping the soul is carbs is SOO wonderful sometimes (scratch that: all the time). The Thurman quote is really though-provoking too. Good food for thought. I love doing things that truly make a difference, no matter how small.

  19. Allison @ Food For Healing on September 13, 2011 at 11:56 am

oh yum pasta. i could really go for some right about now.. even if it is only 10AM here! lol

  20. Anna @ On Anna's Plate on September 13, 2011 at 11:56 am

Oooooh, I bet that night of sleep felt SO good for you!! Hope it carries you through the day!

  21. Hillary on September 13, 2011 at 11:58 am

Oh, dear. Now that the weather is cooling off, I cannot WAIT to get back into the habit of making baked pasta dishes. Yum.

And I scored my WF deal today, too! WOOT!

  22. Jen Correa @ Mom's Gotta Run on September 13, 2011 at 11:59 am

I’ve never had pasta with goat cheese. Is it good? I usually go to mozzarella with pasta, but I’m always up to try something new!

  23. Meghan on September 13, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Even better- I just saw that today’s Plum District deal is for Open Sky- $15 for $30 worth!
    http://www.plumdistrict.com/

  24. Jessie on September 13, 2011 at 12:04 pm

I have been wanting to try fennel but have had no idea what to do with it! Roasting seems like it would be easy enough!

  25. meghan@ struggle muffins on September 13, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I let out a lil yelp of joy when I saw the living social deal. AMAZING.

  26. Sonia (the Mexigarian) on September 13, 2011 at 12:19 pm

ah, tempurpedic, how I covet thee! congrats on such an awesome bed. I can’t wait to get that when we find a bigger place.

i don’t think I’ve ever had fennel before. I think fear was instilled in me because of 6th grade science where hemlock and fennel were discussed. one is poison. one is edible. I got the answer incorrect. lol. they look and smell the same, no?

purchase pending on the darn Whole Paycheck deal. ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on September 13, 2011 at 12:22 pm

No joke, the first thing I did when I woke up this morning (after brushing my teeth and pouring coffee) was buy the Living Social deal! Whole Foods owns me!

That dinner looks magical! I was eyeing fennel the other day! Maybe I should give it a try… You’ve inspired me!

You will LOVE your new mattress, we have one and it’s magical. I remember when we were dating, and my husband got his, I would strategically time my weekends so I could catch a nap on it Haha.

I’m planning on buying another bag of Sunwarrior, yumm. Thanks for introducing us to it, I can’t believe I lived without it for so long!

That pasta looks awesome. Hell, all pasta looks awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚ I need to try goat cheese on mine instead of parmesan. It looks like it blends very well!

  33. mary on September 13, 2011 at 12:51 pm

I’m so thrifty, even at half price, WF is still overpriced to me! (Did you quit Costco already? They own me.)

Speaking of deals… Thanks for the Tarte rec! I got a QVC package of it that was sold as 8-pieces for $55 but I think I had 10 items in there! I like all of them but the eyeliner is a godsend. Of my two Buxom ones, one dried up and one is already empty.

Perfect timing on the Sun Warrior promo! This morning I was making my smoothie and thought to myself “I hope Gina puts Sun Warrior on sale soon cause I’m running VERY low.” and then I checked my email and it was there. I wish everything I put out into the universe for would happen as quickly ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Beth on September 13, 2011 at 1:09 pm

  36. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on September 13, 2011 at 1:16 pm

Mmm…that pasta dish looks so delicious…I love that you can make it suit both you and the Pilot, by making a few little switches – like the type of pasta and the cheese topping – but still basically the same dish – I need to do that for me and my Tom, too! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay for a good nights sleep! It literally makes all the difference in the world, doesn’t it? Such a cute picture of Bella! ๐Ÿ˜› Have a lovely day! xyx

Also..yey for the living social deal! Thanks so much for sharing. I give them so much dough every week it’s disgusting ๐Ÿ™

Tip for you….when you add a link to your text, you should click the little box that says “open in a new window” when you are adding the link in wordpress on that screen that pops up where you paste the link. You may have just not done it for this link…but this way peeps can go to the webpage you recommend but not lose yours and have to hit the back button ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 13, 2011 at 2:55 pm

I am so happy about your sleep! Nothin like a new bed and carbs, you are right. I love fennel so so much. I used to force the chef I worked for to buy it so that I could make salads out of it, and save and eat the scraps! So crunchy and delicious. I love your quote, so what a Life Coach would say!

  45. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 13, 2011 at 2:58 pm

    Congrats on the new mattress.

And random tip…fennel is a lactogenic food. Meaning, for pregnant women or those nursing, it helps with milk production and milk supple (no, it’s not going to make a man lactate, the Pilot is ‘safe’.. haha!) but for you, awesome choice. One of those “Foods as Medicine” type things. There are a whole slew of foods that are good for nursing and milk production and some that aren’t. Ok, I will stop with my lactation educator ramblings ๐Ÿ™‚

    Congrats on the new mattress!

  46. Ellie@fitforthesoul on September 13, 2011 at 3:14 pm

ahhhhh your bed makes me all relaxed hah! It looks so nice and fluffy. I’m actually surprised your husband likes fennel! I think it’s really delicious, but it has a strong flavor and it seems (to me) that not many males like strong flavors like that. Maybe I’m wrong! And it’s so great that you slept well! Gotta get all the sleep you can get so baby is healthy~ ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. Amelia on September 13, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Gina, Do you know if it’s possible to get the natural unflavored Sun Warrior? I have an allergy to stevia (=major migraines) so I usually roll with the natural Sun Warrior Protein. Would love to grab one of the deals, but understand if it’s only the flavors! Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚
