Off to College
Morning friends 🙂 How’s your day treating ya? Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday.
(Sent from the Pilot! Le swoon)
After this morning’s interval workout, I was *supposed* to have a lil photo shoot. The hairstylist didn’t make it in time from traveling, so we re-scheduled and I resorted to plan B.
Taking out some cookbooks:
planning eats for the week
and going food shopping 🙂
I’ve been trying to do better about food budgeting… I tend to just throw things willy nilly into the cart, even when I have a list. I’m hoping to do a food budgeting post in the near future, because it’s definitely something I could improve at! Stoked to say the above stuff was only $57- love Trader Joe’s.
Some recent eats:
Brown rice cakes with cashew butter and blueberries
Snacky plate:

So… today is a bitersweet day.
Viesa is going to live with her new family later this afternoon, who live in Phoenix.
We’ve known that we’d need to find a new home for her for over a year, as she and Bella don’t always get along and last time they fought, Bella ended up badly injured with a trip to the pet hospital. It’s been very difficult making sure the dogs don’t fight and keeping them separated, but we’ve been casually looking for a new home for her because we wanted to be 100% sure she would be in the best possible situation.
Vies is the smartest, sweetest dog, but needs to be in a place where she’s the only pet.
Today she’s going to live with her new family (my mom and I are calling it “going off to college” so it doesn’t feel as sad), and since they’re very good family friends, we’ll still get to see her often.
I’m heartbroken because I’m going to miss her so badly, but at the same time so happy that she’ll be living with an amazing couple who already love her like crazy.
So Viessy is on to be queen of the castle in a new home, with fun new adventures and all of the love and attention she needs.
I’m sure the couple who are taking her will send me pics (and I’ll go up to Phoenix to visit her), so I’ll be sure to share them with the bloggy.
Hope you have a great day and I’ll see ya later with a baking project <3
xoxo
Gina
Hope you aren’t too sad Gina, I’m sure Viesa will be very well looked after 🙂
I’m so sorry. This post broke my heart. Glad you found d nice home for her, and you will get to see her again, but it still must be so hard!
So glad that you were able to find her a good home, although I’m sure it’s still hard to say goodbye.
I was wondering if you’d ever consider posting at the beginning of the week what dinners you plan to make that week? Just a thought. 🙂 I’d love to get some new ideas to freshing up my dinner planning and I know you’ve probably got some great healthy ideas I’d never even think to make 🙂
I’m glad she gets to be nearby! That’s really hard when the pets don’t get along. It’s totally for the best.
Oh what a tough day. At least you know she’s going to a home where she’ll be loved and cared for – and at least you’ll still get to see her.
I’m so sorry the pups dint get along, but I’m glad she’s going to a good home! I’m excited to read your food budgeting post! That is something I am constantly having to watch!
Awwww good luck to Viesa at college!! I know it’s so hard to say goodbye to a pet, but it sounds like she’ll really love her new home- and I’m sure she won’t forget about mom between all the partying and studying 🙂 Big hugs to you!!
Separating from pets is so difficult! I’m glad you know that Viesa will be loved and taken care of well.
Way to go Pilot! Beautiful flowers. 🙂
G, my heart goes out to you as Viesa goes off to college. We have a little bastard poodle who has taken a chomp at us from time to time and considered putting him down. And as much as he drives us crazy, we just can’t do it. He may be a bastard, but he’s OUR bastard. Since he’s the only pet here and we don’t have kids, so we manage to make it work. I’m so happy you could find another family that will give your pup a good home and lots of love.
What a hard day. Your doing the very best thing! Only a true loving and responsible dog owner would do what you are doing.
Hugs!
Mel
Reading this brought tears to my eyes and brought back many memories. I know how hard it is to have to do this! Being able to send her to college and see her periodically will do wonders for you. She will be in a better place which is a good thing for all. Queen of the Castle…Go Viesa! Enjoy your new life and make your mommy proud.
We’ll all miss Viesa! College is a great adventure!…not everyone is lucky enough to go (or in this case…have a good home).
Aw goodbye, Viesa! And my heart goes out to you, Gina. It’s such a hard thing to do – several years ago, my family was having trouble with our shih tzu (basically, we couldn’t housebreak her, but it wasn’t her fault at all – we were never home to work with her) and my mom made the difficult decision to give her to an elderly couple who’d just lost their own dog.
It worked out so well, and we all knew it was for the best…but it was hard. My dad and brother didn’t speak to my mom for a week! Lol. They got over it, though, and things worked out. Now my parents have a little yorkie poo we all love, and their lives have slowed down enough to give him the attention he deserves.
Awwwe that is bittersweet..but she’ll love her new home just as much as her current one. 🙂 Plus you’ll be able to visit her anytime you wish!
Gina,
Sorry about Viesa, I know you will miss her.
One food budget thing we do at my house. Sometimes we do the “pantry challenge” where I try to buy as little as possible at the grocery (other than veggies and such) and “cook through” some of those pantry and freezer staples that get stockpiled. It is a creativity challenge and it is the way I use up some of those odd cans of things and that last bit of something I bought and wasn’t wild about or the 1/2 bag of frozen peas etc…

I’ve known this day was coming since I follow your blog. I immediately started crying. I have so enjoyed your pictures and stories of Bella and Viesa. This must be so hard for you. I’ll be praying for a smooth transition for all involved. Nice to know she is going to a good home and will be loved. Going off to college — I love that.
I gotta say, I am soo sad!! I ADORE the pictures of V that post, and look forward to them all the time. I have a Shiba Inu mix myself, who looks very similar, so I have an emotional affinity for V. I am going to miss here!!!
So sorry about Viesa, but she’ll be close by.
Such lovely flowers!
my thoughts are with you and viesa! it’s good you are a responsible owner and know how to deal with it!
Awww….she is seriously the cutest…I can see why she thinks she is the queen! I am sure this was tough for you, but I am so happy you found her a loving home, and I love that you call it “going to college.”
I hear you on the food budget thing. Buying healthy food is so important to me that I tend to splurge on (almost) whatever I want because I am buying real/whole/good for me things, but the truth is, I really should/could crack down on the spending.
I am sure you will share any secrets/tips with us.
Still wishing you and everyone well after the awful events from yesterday.
I love the way you are reframing this–“going to college.” I am having fun imagining Viesa as the Queen Bee on campus, setting the rules like “we only wear jeans on Friday.” I’m sad you have to go through this without the pilot, but at least you have your mommy for support. You are definitely doing the best thing for her and for Bella, so kudos to you, along with hugs because it’s hard. XOXO
So sad 🙁 She’s such a gorgeous little thing too. But I’m glad that you searched so hard for a good family for her!
This post made me cry because I miss my dog SO much 🙁 And Viesa is such a beautiful dog! I’m glad you’re doing what’s best for her though. And I hope she doesn’t gain the “Freshman 15” Heh heh heh.
Hey there, just found your blog… just wanted to say that you are doing the right thing for your little pup! I recently just rescued a puppy (named her Happy) and she is the BEST thing that has happened to me! In fact, I created my happytalesblog because of her…(i’m not obsessed or anything, ha!!) So glad that you have such a good outlook on this, you are going to make that couple very, very happy!!
awwww 🙁 We had to give away our 2nd dog Molly a couple years ago – her and Ellie didn’t really get along much and though neither of them ever got sent to the vet hospital their fights were getting progressively worse. We had rescued her so we contacted the rescue org about giving her away and they found a great home for her. It’s so hard ah-hem sending pets off to college isn’t it?
*many hugs* Glad you found a great home for Viesa and that you’ll still be able to see her though 🙂 🙂
Aw..you’re doing the right thing!
Trader Joes= love!
I’m sorry dear… such a hard situation to deal with. On a sort of related note, my dog from childhood is super ill (he’s 13 in dog years!), and we thought he was going to doggie heaven when I was home for Christmas. It’s tough to let them go- regardless of where they’re headed next.
Least your flowers are pretty!:)
I hope Viesa makes the dean’s list. 😉
Stay strong. <3
I am going through a similar situation and I dont mean to encroach into your life. But I was wondering if you and the Pilot talked about which of the two dogs you were going to keep – Viesa or Bella. And what factors you took into consideration before you made that decision. Thanks!
we talked about it a lot, and took age, health concerns and personalities into the discussion. bella is older than viesa and usually people want to adopt a younger dog, bella has some knee and health issues, and viesa doesn’t deal well with all of the moving we have to do. it’s better for her to be in one spot.
Sorry about Viesa that must be very hard for you. I’m sure she’ll be happy in her new home.
Awww I am going to miss seeing Viesa on the blog. She is such a pretty girl. I am sure she will like being he queen of the castle. Hang in there furmommy 🙂
Sorry to hear about your puppy. Console yourself in knowing that she will be very happy with her loving new family. The flowers are gorgeous, by the way. I love the colors!
awww, i’m sorry about viesa! you’re such a good puppy-mommy for finding her a great home and doing what had to be done, even though it was a hard choice. 🙁
I don’t have anything super interesting to say but wanted to give you a virtual hug. I’m sure today was really hard for you. Although, dog ownership is the best thing ever so I bet you made that other couple’s day.
🙁 I can’t even imagine how hard it is to give up your pup. ::hug:: sorry Gina! I’m glad Viesa’s new owners are family friends and I look forward to future blog updates about her! She seems like an amazing puppy!
she’s an amazing puppy and they’re amazing people- it’s going to work out very well <3
poor viesa! I wonder if all shiba’s are like that? I know another shiba that is super territorial and doesn’t get along with other pups as well!
sorry to hear about your pupper, but it sounds like it’s for the best
I had a situation with my two kitties (my babies!) a few years ago and it was tough. You did the right thing by waiting for the perfect match!
i know how hard this is. i gave up my cat when i realized i couldn’t take care of him (i was only 9) and it took me months to get over it but i know someone would take care a lot better than i was. stay strong! you’re doing the right thing!
So sorry to hear about V going off to college. Sounds like you made awesome arrangements for her.
Even though you’ll miss her tons she’ll be happy and so will your other dog!
p.s. I am just about to start the same workout video that you have
in your screen shot there. Today will be my first time giving it
a go…I’m pumped.
Oh my gosh, that must be so hard. Knowing that she will be queen bee in a home where she is loved is the best part. 🙂
Oh Gina, how heart breaking. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this…it broke my heart just reading your post! But like you say, she will have a wonderful new home to go to and will be happier overall because she will be the one and only queen.
Sending tons of love.
Aww, that must be so hard to have to say goodbye to Viesa! But at least you know the couple and that you’ll still be able to see her!
i can’t believe how sad you must be…but you’re right in that she’ll get the love and attention she needs! she’ll be a happy puppy 🙂
What’s the photo-shoot for?
🙂
secret for now 🙂
I’m so sorry Gina 🙁 I’m so glad you get to see her still though!
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had to send Viesa off to college! But it sounds like you’ve got the right attitude for it AND that you guys will be able to visit.
I know you will miss the foxy little lady. Glad she will be with a good family.
Aw, sorry to hear this, but at least you’ve maintained visitation rights. 🙂 Sounds like she will have a fabulous new home though! That’s awesome. Best wishes for your long-distance relationship…s. :/
