Party Rockers

in our houuuuuuusse toniiiiiight ๐Ÿ˜‰

appetizers

Our first party in the new casa was a successโ€”surrounded by family, friends and food. Not much more I could ask for ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you for all of the lovely compliments on how our house is coming together. The best thing is having the boxes out of sight- it feels like home, instead of the temporary places weโ€™re used to.

I had taken a picture of the Pilotโ€™s painting handiwork, and then my camera ate it, so took a new one to post this morning.

The Easter Egg guest bathroomโ€ฆ.

turned into the Band Aid bathroom.

He picked out the colors and I hated them, and as soon as he got the shower curtain and decor in there, it looked awesome. He won, haha.

guest (2)

[Now we need new towels that donโ€™t camouflage with the wall)

So for the party, we had about 50 people here over the course of the day. I made everything in advance, and had back-ups and extras in the fridge ready to be set out, or heated up. I also ordered the tamales and mini chimichangas instead of making them, which made life so much easier ๐Ÿ™‚

plates

Melon, raspberries and super fresh mango from Costco (cut a day ahead)

fruit

chips

Salsa (the Pioneer Womanโ€™s recipe has changed my life foreverโ€ฆ its crazy easy, and so good), chips and guacamole

beans and rice

Frijoles

beans

[Slow-cooked the day before with whole heads of garlic, salt, oregano and cumin]

Easiest rice ever, made even more carefree by the rice cooker

rice

Mini chimis (7 dozen- ordered from a local Mexican restaurant)

chimis

5 dozen tamales to my heart (from our familyโ€™s โ€œtamale manโ€)

tamales

Tres Leches <— Alton Brownโ€™s recipe. Itโ€™s perfect

cake

(All that was left from the two cakes. Each piece was served with a single strawberry)

Brownies (madre brought these over)

brownies

+ even more food from the fam (my nanaโ€™s famous Jell-O creation, a boatload of delicious guacamole, etc etc feast feast)

Drink station

pilot

drinks

Lemon water and sangria (I mixed red wine โ€“cheaper tastes better, just a heads up- brandy, triple sec, orange juice, lime juice, sugar, orange slices and chopped apple and let it sit in the fridge overnight. I didnโ€™t get to taste it, and it hurt a little. Haha)

Burr

We even had a special visitor ๐Ÿ˜€

view

Vies!!!

I loved kissing her furry nose ๐Ÿ˜€

We baby-gated Bella upstairs for a couple of hours while Vies was here – they sniffed each other through the gate and Viesa licked Bella on the nose. It was pretty cute that they instantly remembered each other.

We had a lovely night with the people we love, and hopefully now that everyoneโ€™s been over theyโ€™ll come hang out with us more ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™m off to a squadron breakfast thang, and then back to the casa for some work.

Have a wonderful day and Iโ€™ll see ya later!

xoxo
Gina

Wow Gina, what a great party! All of the food looks amazing. I had to laugh when you mentioned “your tamale man” because when I lived in the Middle East, we always ordered food from “our shawarma man” whose real name I never actually knew! Your new house is so gorgeous. Looks like you two have settled in nicely! And how nice that you got to see Viesa! Have a fantastic day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey quick question – How do you clean your rice maker?? My boyfriend bought one like 3 months ago, and I have yet to give it a good cleaning. It’s probably way too gross and embarrassing but we haven’t gotten sick yet! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  22. Silvia @ skinny jeans food on August 29, 2011 at 12:37 pm

And I’m so happy that you are feeling “at home” at your home!!! What a nice feeling ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Evan Thomas on August 29, 2011 at 1:00 pm

  43. Sonia (the Mexigarian) on August 29, 2011 at 3:05 pm

mmmm tamales. mi familia and i make them every year around Christmas time. It’s so funny that my Hubby, the gringo, is the one that spreads the masa the best (besides mi madre y abuela of course). now i got a craving.

the whole party looks so yummy, lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Brittany on August 29, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Awww, house looks great, party looked great! Nice work!!

I had to learn the hard way to not allow my husband to pick out paint colors: I came home one Saturday just as he was finishing up painting the ceiling FOREST GREEN. The ceiling. No, no, no. Luckily the Pilot seems to have great taste. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  45. Mo on August 29, 2011 at 4:23 pm

What a spread – you’re an amazing woman. Pilot did a great job on the bathroom. I love painting – we painted just about every single room in our house before we moved in – I had some sore arms for awhile! Funny, but Vies doesn’t seem that small – big personality I guess! Take care friend. Mo

  46. Lisa on August 29, 2011 at 4:38 pm

  50. Lindsay@Brownies For Brunch on August 29, 2011 at 6:17 pm

All that food and drank looks amazingggg. Do you just eye the amount of alc and juice you put in your sangria or did you measure it out? If so, how much of each ingredient? I so want to make that at my next get together!
