Q & A Fun

Hiiiiii 😀 How are you guys? Hope your day has been wonderful!

We’ve been snack machines today 🙂

Smoothies:

(Banana Peanut Butter for him and Strawberry for me- my Sun Warrior came while I was away, so that was a happy surprise! I missed it so)

Snack plates:

and ballz 🙂

I couldn’t wait to make some amazeballz using Sun Warrior (instead of the icky Standard Process protein I used in the meantime), with homemade cashew butter:

(Roasted cashews whirred around in the mini food processor with cinnamon, vanilla and sea salt)

Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments you’ve posted about the Pilot’s return and our goobery love for each other 🙂

Just to prove it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows –coming back from deployment is a HUGE adjustment for everyone involved- here’s a snippet of our conversation while the Pilot was driving today.

Me: Stop braking like that! You’re making me sick! Guess who hasn’t driven a car in 6 months?

Pilot: I like the sound of enemy gunfire more than listening to you complain.

Hahaha.

We took Bell to the dog park this morning –she was in heaven- and then to look at the house I’m in love with.

dining room

He likes it, but isn’t as crazy about it as I was hoping….

If anyone has some legendary persuasion techniques, please send them my way 😉

We also grabbed some groceries. A stocked fridge is a very good feeling 🙂

+ plentiful produce

Well I’m off to get ready to teach, but I hope you have a great night! Meet me back here in the morning for Luon for a Cause – e have a TON of amazing items to choose from, as well as a macaroon raffle 😀

See ya in the AM!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Q&A time! I lovelove when other bloggers do Q&A sessions –I’m kinda nosy like that haha- and think video posts are even more awesome. So since it’s been over a year since I’ve done a Q&A post, the Pilot and I were thinking it would be fun to do a little Q&A video together.

Please leave any questions you’d like us to answer in the comments section, and we’ll post the video in the next couple of days.

I had to laugh at your conversation snippet. It reminds me of my husband and I when we’ve spent too much time together…and probably what we would sound like in your shoes. The only part that matters is how you make up 😉

    Mmm ‘roons.

    i love that house;
Message to the Pilot (subliminal) You looooove this house, Gina knows best.

    how’s that? 😛

Question: what’s your best piece of marriage advice? I’m getting married this summer and am curious!

  4. Jennifer on March 23, 2011 at 9:20 pm

How do you manage your time when the Pilot is home? Is it hard to do everything you need to do and “fit him” back into your schedule? What does he do to help make the transition easier for you? Has this changed over time?

Tons of questions… I find myself in similar situations 🙂

    Lots of love,

    Jenny

Your honesty is amazing, refreshing and inspiring and makes your love even MORE real and fabulous 🙂 and in terms of persuasion, i am sureee you could figure somethingggg out 🙂 I usually persuade at night, if you catch my drift… 😉

One little known fact about each of you?

    Dream vacation?

When will we see baby Pilots and Fitnessistas?! 😉 hahah

  7. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on March 23, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Hahaha why is it that couples never agree on the other’s driving? My boyfriend drives like a maniac…but he’ll tell you that I’m horrible because I zone out and slow dow.

Q&A: I know you’ve kind of talked about this before, but how did you know the Pilot was “the one”? (Clearly I’m not at all sick of the goobery love!)

  8. Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete on March 23, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Now that you both are home 🙂 how do you break up household chores (laundry, dishes, vacuuming)?

  9. Alicia @ This Organic Body on March 23, 2011 at 9:24 pm

LOL! I love the conversation it sounds beyond familiar. However, my husband uses examples of the most annoying people he travels with for work.

  10. Nikki on March 23, 2011 at 9:25 pm

Your fridge looks AMAZING! I’m so jealous haha

    Question

I’m just about to get myself involved with an Air Force mechanic. I always swore up and down I’d never be a military girlfriend, but I feel like he might be worth it. How does this kind of lifestyle work? He’s on his 3rd year and already been deployed twice, with a third coming in August. He said he eventually wants to end up doing “Air National Guard”. I’m just curious if I’m setting myself up for a bunch of time to be on my own. How often are deployments usually? How frequent?

Sorry for all of the questions! You both just handle it SO well and I am always in awe. Now that I’m seeing myself going down that road, I just kind of want to know what to expect. Thank you <3

I love your blog so, so much! It is so refreshing 🙂 And, I love that house!! I hope you can persuade him!

  12. Amber on March 23, 2011 at 9:30 pm

how in the heck do you stay constantly motivated to eat so clean? Other bloggers seem to have those random cheats here and there, but you eat so well all the time! You are seriously, like, my food idol. 🙂

    • Jessica on March 23, 2011 at 11:44 pm

I agree! I want to know your secret! 😉

  13. Mindy on March 23, 2011 at 9:37 pm

Nice to see you two home together. 🙂
I persuade my hubby with yummy, healthy food. Ever since I’ve been making more healthy foods and making him fresh juice daily, he’s been raving about how great he feels and has been very agreeable, haha.

Hmm, my question for you two would be about being workout buddies – how does that work for you? My hubby and I tried working out together (at times when our schedules actually allowed it) but it wasn’t very effective for each of us. I think part of it is that he has his own business and a flexible schedules, where I’m a busy grad student and squeeze in workouts wherever I can. When you two work out together, how do you do it and what do you do?

  14. Kelsey on March 23, 2011 at 9:37 pm

Gina, I would love your advice on how you handled worrying about the pilot. my fiancé just became a police officer and while I knew it was his dream and he loves it, I find myself laying in bed at night (alone!) trying not to worry. Thanks 🙂

  15. Hannah on March 23, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I’m so glad you are both reunited again!

    My question(s)are:
-Will the Pilot be home for good or does he go back again?
-What are each of your favorite workout moves? Are there any that the Pilot learned while in training?

    Have an awesome day!

  16. Alexi on March 23, 2011 at 9:43 pm

Hey Gina! So my question is:
When you later start a family, have you 2 talked about how the baby will eat? I know you now eat chicken (occasionally) and I’m sure once the kiddo is old enough, you’ll adapt then, but as it is a baby and toddler, what are your plans for children diet-wise? Just curious as I have 3 babies at home! 🙂

  17. Alicia on March 23, 2011 at 9:47 pm

I love the convo snippet… too funny. You guys are cute even when you “bicker”

Questions for the Q&A video post:

For the Pilot: Is there any advice you would give to someone that will be starting Pilot Training? (My brother is heading to Del Rio sometime after May (his commissioning) to begin and would love to share any helpful advice you have with him)

For Gina: Did you have a difficult time becoming part of your ‘new family’ when you and the Pilot got married or have any “in-law” issues and how did you address them? I am a newlywed and I still feel awkward or left out sometimes even though we were together 5+ years before our wedding and would love to get any insight to how you make it work, especially since sometimes your husband is deployed during holidays or other family-time events.

  19. Anne on March 23, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Hmm…well, you guys seem made for each other and it’s so obvious you adore each other…that said, what is a big argument you’ve had in the past, and how did you resolve it?

  20. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on March 23, 2011 at 9:51 pm

I spy TJ’s mini multi colored potatoes…love them.

Ballz with cashew butter and Sun Warrior…NICE! I bet they taste amazaballz 🙂

I appreciate the honesty in blogging about the driving/braking conversation between you and Pilot. I cannot STAND the way Scott drives so I am the driver, he rides. haha

    Q & A session…
Oh so many things but everything from your fave vacation destination or where you’d like to travel to, to how much you blog about vs. how much you don’t, how you decide what to blog about that’s not food/exercise related, i.e. deciding to blog about the natural birth control stuff..like that takes GUTS! How do you decide to just bare it all..I dunno..things like that.

Whatever you post about will be great 🙂

  21. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on March 23, 2011 at 9:52 pm

I feel like these questions are probably hidden somewhere in your blog, so feel free to ignore them. I apologize in advance if I’m being super nosy, but since you offered… 😉

    1) How did the Pilot propose?
    2) How long have you guys been married now?
    3) Now that Tom’s back can we hope for the pitter-patter of little pilotista feet? 😉 Are kids part of your plan in the future? (I mostly just think you guys would make the cutest babies (and be the best parents) of all time!)

  22. KC on March 23, 2011 at 9:56 pm

What is one thing you dont like about yourself??

How long were you two dating before you got engaged?

  23. Jillian on March 23, 2011 at 9:59 pm

I have a question for you Gina. I think you’ve said in the past that previous to the Pilot you were in an unhealthy relationship. Once you met the Pilot, were you hesitant to get into a relationship? Were you still healing from your previous relationship?

I got out of an extremely unhealthy relationship almost a year ago and I’m still completely messed up. Huge fear of commitment, major trust issues…the list goes on and on.

    Just wondering how you coped.

  24. Rachel (Alive in the Fire) on March 23, 2011 at 10:01 pm

    Hey Gina,
Great post! I have been loving the blog the last week or so. You guys are awesome.

I’m just curious… how do you balance your time? I know a fair portion of it is spent away from the Pilot since he is on leave, but how do you deal when he is gone? Do you feel lonely? Do you feel independent?

How do you strike a balance? Has your balance morphed since you were married and since you’ve gotten used to time on your own?

    Thanks,
Rachel @ alive in the fire

    1. What was your first thought when you saw each other for the first time in that Starbucks?

    2. What do you feel is the key to making a relationship last long-term?

    3. What was your favorite date the two of you have been on? Favorite wedding memory?

  26. Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy on March 23, 2011 at 10:03 pm

This might sound like a silly question (I know, I know, no question is silly), but it is something that has been on my, and my boyfriend’s, mind lately. How did you know when you were “ready” to get married, and how old were you? My boyfriend and I have been dating for over 2 years and we’ve talked about getting engaged in the near future, but I feel like I’m so young (22) and have so much ahead of me.

  27. Kate on March 23, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Hello to the Fitnessista and Pilot!

    I love this idea of a Q&A.

I do have a question for you. What piece of kitchen equipment (besides the Vita-mix: it is already on my dream wish list 🙂 would you recommend because you use it the most? I notice that you have such cool gadgets that help you make some really fun foods so I was just curious about which one helps the most.

Thanks! I can’t wait for this video 🙂

  28. AJ on March 23, 2011 at 10:08 pm

So funny about the car convo! Seems that a lot of us can relate! My boyfriend and I have far fewer squables in person than we do on the phone. Do you experience that? Its likely just me being frustrated because of the distance, but I’m likely to get irritated over the teeniest of things over the phone, but when we are together, we are both very easy going and most “fights” can be calmed down with hugs or teasing each other or something. I love that you can admit that you have the occasional “tiff” and can still joke about them after the fact. We wouldn’t be human if we all didn’t have those moments!

I, like most of your other blog-readers I’m certainly not sick of the goo-goo-eyed love stuff, so my question is for the pilot. What are your favourite things about Gina? (One physical characteristic, and one thing about her as a person)

  29. Beth on March 23, 2011 at 10:20 pm

I’m new to your blog and love it– so inspired to eat clean and workout… and just ordered me some Sun Warrior! Here’s my question: how did you and Pilot meet?

  30. Dana Marie on March 23, 2011 at 10:23 pm

You could do a live chat — I’ll bet your readers would like that — one of the dancers I know on twitter does that – she tweets about ‘I’m on line now chat with me”,–it’s live video chat —
and I like the bickering quotes! humor is more fun than romance (in my opinion)

  31. Kat on March 23, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Everyone else has such cute and personal questions… Now I feel almost bad that all I really want to know about is how you manage being a fitness professional and the laundry that must come with it?!

I’m a fitness enthusiast looking to become a fitness instructor, and now i’ve added bikram yoga to the mix…

So, any tips or tricks or insights. Drowning in laundry. Help me. Help. Please. 😉

  32. Ashley on March 23, 2011 at 10:33 pm

Q&A: how do you and the pilot split finances? My fiancé and I are getting married this fall and I’m curious how another married couple divides up the bills, dining out, traveling, groceries, car payments, etc. Obviously without divulging your income, how are things split? Do you guys have mutual bank accounts that you both contribute to?
If it’s TMI, feel free to say so. 🙂

  33. Faith @ lovelyascharged on March 23, 2011 at 10:42 pm

FOOD! Food is my legendary persuasion technique! Brownies, cake, etc…works wonders!

  34. Suzanne on March 23, 2011 at 10:50 pm

“goobery love” haha… that made me smile.

My question: How do you stop from over-snacking – especially at night? I am like a ravenous machine after dinner. I’ve be trying to lose weight, and I do so well during the day. I bring pre-packed eggs, salads, fruits, and veggies, etc. for my breakfast and lunch at work. Dinner is well-balanced as well. But after 7pm, it all goes down hill. 🙁

Thanks! Keep up the ‘goobering’! ha!

  35. Julia on March 23, 2011 at 10:51 pm

Legendary persuasion tactic -> dollars and cents. My husband and I are both artsy fartsy and yet we are totally number crunchers in our finances. Go figure.

Also, a question -> I hope you answer Ashley’s q on splitting finances. If it’s not TMI.

And my question: How does your time overlap with the pilot’s time? How do you even out who takes priority? AND how do you not feel guilty about taking time to work out? I’d have to hire a sitter or leave baby with someone else regularly which makes me feel terrible, but I am a total gym rat. It’s gym or bust with me.

  36. Kelsey on March 23, 2011 at 11:11 pm

My question regards your eating habits: I know you previously stated you had an unhealthy relationship towards food. How/when were you able to live a balanced lifestyle and enjoy food?

  37. Toronto Girl West on March 23, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Bwahahhaha – that exchange in the car cracked me up! Way to keep it real! 😉

Seriously though, relationships are hard work and hopefully your readers know it’s not all sunshine and lollipops.

And while I myself haven’t dealt with a deployment, I can somewhat relate. You see my husband works long shifts and I don’t see him much for days at a time. I’m used to it now but when he first started on that schedule it would be a serious re-adjustment whenever he came off shift. It was just hard to get used to being around someone again.

Now I look forward to it and relish the moment – I’m gooberish like that too! 😛

  38. Melody Haling on March 23, 2011 at 11:29 pm

    Hi Gina,

    I <3 your blog!

I would like to know how you deal with other people's attitudes towards your food choices. I've been reading Skinny Bitch and am seriously considering switching to a mainly vegetarian diet. I can't stop thinking about factory farming, especially after watching Food Inc. So far, the few people I have mentioned it to have looked at me like I am crazy and even made fun of me a bit. I can ignore them, but I don't want to have to debate or defend myself every time the conversation comes up.

Also, what do you do if someone invites you for dinner and they served something like lasagna? Or work functions where the choices are grease, fat, and meat?

How long have you avoided meat(other than your recent and occasional chicken addition) and other foods (Doritos, Subways, Pizza Hut, etc.) that the rest of our society considers stables in their lives.

Keep up the great blog and enjoy every moment with your buddy! 🙂

  39. Alicia on March 23, 2011 at 11:30 pm

Just wanted to let you know that I’m so inspired by your blog! I’m a newbie reader and you already have me motivated to eat even better and try to work out more. I’m officially on Mission Health-possible. (corny I know):) I also love reading about your relationship with the Pilot. It’s inspiring to read about another’s love for their spouse. I have buckets of love for my husband and it’s nice to see how much you love your hubby too. 🙂
    All that to say:
Q: I work an 8-5 job, commute an hour each way to work (boo), and need study time at night for tests I’m taking. Do you have any tips for fitting in GOOD workouts and eating healthy for a busy schedule like this? Oh,and sleep in there somewhere. 😉

  41. cass on March 23, 2011 at 11:33 pm

How do you find a proper workout schedule? I struggle with not trusting my body, and not knowing what is going to allow me to maintain my current weight and muscle tone. I am extremely busy with grad school, work, and life! I am wondering what is the minimum I should to do maintain where I am at.

    Hi Gina……
I follow your blog and think it is soooo awesome! It is funny because I live in Tucson also. Just a quick fyi……I am not sure where you are looking to purchase your home but we are listing ours next week. We live in the NW area…….Thornydale and Overton. It is a Santa Fe Style development of semi-custom homes. If you are at all interested and would like more info contact me at velocitychic@yahoo.com I just thought I would mention it……..I noticed the house you love has saltillo tile and our house has it all over except the bedrooms! I love your blog…….glad you are both home now in Tucson!

Funny bickering! I literally LOL-ed. I’m so excited you’re doing another Q&A post…I am also super nosey like that!

For Gina: How did you/do you handle set-backs in clean eating goals especially when you were losing weight? I find myself struggling quite a bit these days. I’m transitioning into a vegan diet which shouldn’t be hard because the only non-vegan items I ate prior to this were the occasional egg and goat cheese. I eat clean on my own, but when I go to my mother’s house all bets are off. Over spring break I had an egg almost every day and I’m so bummed out that I slipped like that. I’d love to hear your tips for dealing with this!

For Pilot: How do you handle transitioning back into life in a non-war zone? What do you do to stay sane while you are deployed? I’m so thankful for all you do for our country. My dad served as a C-5 pilot for 20 years, and I have such a soft spot for Air Force men/women. I’m glad you’re finally at home with Gina!

Q&A: dream vacation? store to shop at for clothes? kids anytime soon? does the pilot like lulu as well? favorite thing about gina, pilot? favorite thing about pilot, gina? 🙂

  46. Katee on March 24, 2011 at 1:32 am

    Hi Gina,
I am officially addicted to the amazeballz! The other good thing about them is that my husband loves them too, and he’s a very picky eater. My question is : How do you plan meals for both you and the Pilot? I tend to lean more toward a vegetarian lifestyle but my husband is totally a southern boy when it comes to food. How do you cook where you don’t feel like you’re making 2 different meals?

  47. ecoprincess on March 24, 2011 at 4:32 am

Q&A: How old are you both? How did the Pilot propose? How do you find the willpower to eat so well all the time? Also I love the question a couple of comments above me: favorite thing about gina, pilot? favorite thing about pilot, gina?

That cashew butter looks really good! Hope you can find a house that you both love =)

  48. Emma (Namaste Everyday) on March 24, 2011 at 4:53 am

I have a question! My friend always gains weight when she’s living with her boyfriend since he eats like a machine! And I’m sure the Pilot eats like one hungry, mean, military machine! Does watching him chow down make you overeat? Or crave things you aren’t supposed to eat? How do you deal?

  49. The Teenage Taste on March 24, 2011 at 7:17 am

Snack plates are the best! I am definitely more of a snacker than a meal person.
