Protein ice cream

Hiiiiii 😀 How are you? Hope your day has been fabulous! Thank you for the reader’s request ideas- I should have a new RR post up on Friday 🙂

I started mine off with a crazyawesome BodyPump class:

bodypump

It’s been a while since I’ve made it to a class and wowzers… I felt it.

Protein replenishment in ice cream form:

ice cream

My new fave mix:

-1 C frozen organic strawberries

-1/2 C frozen organic blueberries

-1 C-ish almond milk

-1 scoop nasty Dr. protein + 1 scoop beautiful Sun Warrior protein

-1 T decaf instant coffee

-1 T raw cacao powder

-cinnamon, pinch of sea salt, raw honey

Coffee and berries are a match made in heaven, I promise 🙂

I ran errands all day (and still have so much to do), sold a giant bag of clothes at Buffalo Exchange (my rule is when I buy new clothes, I also dig through the closet to find clothes to sell or donate), and picked up Abreva at Target for my heinous cold sore. It just appeared out of NOWHERE this morning- not a fan 🙁

The cold sore had no effect on my foodgasm face, though 😀

sp spaghetti

Sweet potato spaghetti!

All I did was spiralize a huge organic sweet potato with the spiralizer,

spiralizer

and steam the *noodles* for 5 minutes, so they still had a slight crunch to them.

noodles

Covered in TJs marinara and nutritional yeast, it was a perfect blend of savory and sweet.

I’ve got to get ready to teach –fingers crossed for a HUGE class tonight!- and then get back to work 🙂

Have a great night and I’ll see ya tomorrow with a macaroon giveaway and my re-cap of the first 10 days of the Doctor Detox.

xoxo,

Gina

*We find out ANY day between now and mid Feb where we’re going to be stationed!! I’m so nervous/excited 🙂

****Winter Shape Up warriors, how’s it going this week?!

Something to think:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Wow, I’ve never seen this spiralizer contraption before! How hard is it to work it? I’ve got a “fry-cutter” thing I’ve tried to use on sweet potatoes before, but the potatoes are so dense that it’s really hard to make it work & I end up just having to cut them by hand

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 6:50 pm

it’s super easy to work! i’ll do a video post on it sometime soon 🙂

  2. MMiller on February 2, 2011 at 6:48 pm

I never thought to use a sweet potato in my spiralizer! I’ve only used zucchini for pasta! It was so quick and easy, and whipped up a “raw” tomato sauce in the vitamix and dinner is served! Even my husband enjoyed it!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 6:49 pm

that’s awesome- my hubs likes zucchini pasta too 🙂

  3. Namaste Gurl on February 2, 2011 at 6:48 pm

What a good idea to spiralize a sweet potato– never thought about that. It’s been much too long since I’ve pulled out my spiralizer. A little scared of all the cob webs and dust that’s accumulated around it 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 6:49 pm

      they’ll wash off easily 🙂

  4. Kristina on February 2, 2011 at 6:50 pm

  12. Erin on February 2, 2011 at 7:07 pm

I get cold sores from stress and found abreva really helps-it’ll prob stick around for week. They’re awful! As soon as the blister is gone smoother some vaseline on that bad boy. Good luck, it sucks!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 7:09 pm

thank you! it hurts too :/

      • Tabi on February 2, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Tea tree oil REALLY helps to dry them out and go away faster! Feel your pain 🙁

        • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 7:45 pm

OOH i have tea tree oil- thanks!

  20. rebecca lustig on February 2, 2011 at 7:31 pm

berries & coffee is SUCH an underestimated delicious combination! so is berries & wine…. just sayin!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 7:45 pm

      anything goes with wine 🙂

  21. rebecca lustig on February 2, 2011 at 7:34 pm

ALSO, how do you make your ice cream? stir ingredients and freeze? there’s gotta be more to it!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 7:45 pm

just blend them in the vitamix- the frozen fruit does all the work 🙂

  22. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on February 2, 2011 at 7:38 pm

Amen and I have always agreed with this “life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. ”

    SO TRUE!

Cold sores. Go to the drug store or health food store and buy Lysine tablets. They are usually sold in 500mg or 1000 mg dosages. You want to take a VERY large dose. Like maybe 4000 mg’s for a few days. Google this and do your own research of course but it’s an amino acid and when out of whack, i.e. traveling, stress, etc..or possibly this is the result of your detox diet and it’s actually a GOOD thing..but anyway, lysine is nature’s treatment to help things along 🙂

  23. Alissa on February 2, 2011 at 7:38 pm

It’s looks amazing! Is the spiralizer on your open sky? No worries, I will go and look after this. I 100% know the feeling you are going through, we will find out at the end of Feb/start of March where we will be stationed next too. This is my first time so I am excited/nervous, for him it is his 4th so this is old news to him. I figure since moving back to AZ you have been super busy but may I request either: 1) a fashion friday, 2) what’s in my gym bag, 3) New beauty products for this spring/summer. You always find the best ideas and I really enjoy those, but I enjoy all of your post and learn so much! Thank you for your time.

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 7:44 pm

yup- i linked to it 🙂
thanks for the ideas!! i’m definitely overdue for a fashion friday post 🙂

I didn’t even know spiralizers existed! I might just have to get one.

And the quote – exactly what I needed today. So thanks!

  32. CathyK on February 2, 2011 at 8:09 pm

what an awesome sweet potato/”spaghetti” idea! thanks, gina!
i had a spirulizer on my christmas list, but no one gave it to me – boo hoo!
hope your class was a blast!

  35. kate on February 2, 2011 at 8:39 pm

I am about to buy crazy sexy diet, but I wanted to hear your thoughts first. Did you like it?

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 10:35 pm

i did. it didn’t teach me anything new, but was a fun read

  36. Molly on February 2, 2011 at 8:45 pm

When I saw the picture of your sweet potato spaghetti, I thought they were regular wheat noodles. I can’t wait to buy a spiralizer so I can make all kinds of veggi-ghettis. Thanks for the idea Gina and am curious to find out how to detox is going!

  37. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on February 2, 2011 at 8:50 pm

The spaghetti totally looks like actual noodles! too cool.

The quote you gave was amazing. I find it so incredibly true. My attitude has been so much better about life recently and amazingly my living situation and overall life has gotten better even though basically everything else has stayed the same.

  38. Krysta on February 2, 2011 at 8:51 pm

I get cold sores if my immune system is all wacky or when I’m super stressed. Try Lysine. It won’t really help with your current CS, but if you are prone to cold sores and start taking it daily it should help prevent future break outs.

  39. Amanda on February 2, 2011 at 8:58 pm

I have a spirooli too and used it for sweet potatoes for the first time a few days ago! I dumped homemade hummus on top of mine;) I like the coffee in the berries idea

I MUST try that pasta. It reminds me of a raw alfredo that I love.

  43. Christina on February 2, 2011 at 9:14 pm

That “spaghetti” looks so darn good I’m ready to buy a spiralizer right now! I been thinking about buying one but I wasn’t sure if I’d really use it. Problem is the hubs swears he hates sweet potato lol I don’t think he’d eat spiralized zucchini either, maybe I should check it out

  44. Felicia (A taste of Health with Balance) on February 2, 2011 at 9:26 pm

OMG! I just got so excited seeing that sweet potato spaghetti- I am obsessed with sweetie potatoes, so would be a perfect recipe, if only I had a spiralizer!

Btw, I went to a boot camp class at my local Lulu, and it was ahhhmazing- I didn’t realize they have such great classes!

  50. valen on February 2, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Glad at least someone on this planet likes Sun Warrior. Its fine in a smoothie, but in other stuff I can’t stand it. Its not like whey where you can mix it with nut butter and have it taste good or tolerable. Before I ate whey I was eating warrior (I think sun warrior is a much more nutritious powder than any other!! and would love to consume just that, but I got tired of gagging over my sink).

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2011 at 10:35 pm

wow i’m the total opposite- whey tastes horrible to me after using sun warrior
