the GOATs
Hi friends! Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend. It feels like spring here! Itโs hilarious because last week it was snowing and this week weโre putting on sunscreen, but IโLL TAKE IT. If only it could stay like this forever, but before we know it, it will be a scorching oven so just making the most of it for now.
It was a fun-packed weekend over here. I took a barre3 class with a friend on Friday morning, and then we got smoothies at Nekter and watched the kids run around the courtyard and played hide and seek with them. Gymboree is having a huge sale, so I picked up some shoes for the girls and some outfits for baby August. I canโt believe heโll be here in a little over a month!
When the Pilot got off work, we headed to the Funny Foot Farm to pet all of the animals.
We were greeted by the most enthusiastic rooster, who cockadoodled his face off the entire time we were there. Last time we were at the Funny Foot Farm was shortly before the Pilot left. It had been a while, and now they have the sweetest baby goats! It didnโt help our major goat fever. The only thing stopping us is our homeownerโs association. When weโre old and likely living somewhere else, chances are that weโll be surrounded by goats.
We saw the pigs (who grunted at us excessively), the emus (which scared the bejeezus out of poor P), capybaras, tortoises, donkey, and porcupines. Thereโs something super fun about feeding a slice of sweet potato to a porcupine, I tell ya.ย
ย
We saw all of the animals and walked to the car, laughing and recapping the adventures, and I felt so happy in that moment to have the family together again. It still doesnโt feel real that the Pilot is home and actually lives here now. When he leaves for work in the morning, I still have to convince P that heโll be home in the afternoon. She still asks how many days until heโll be home.
Dinner was courtesy of the Whole Foods hot bar. Itโs one of our favorite casual dinner spots because they have something for everyone. ๐
Saturday morning, the Pilot had to work, and the girls and I took off for ballet and a trip to Coscto. My nana met us there to watch the girls while I had an eye doctor appointment, and then we walked around and picked up some essentials. (+ we snacked on copious samples.) When we got home, the girls played outside most of the afternoon, during quiet time I caught a Peloton ride, and the Pilot and I had a date night.
We went to Flying V, which was one of our favorite spots when Kyle used to work there. Unfortunately, the food has gone wayyyy downhill. My salmon had some bizarre flavorless almost-raw beets and fennel on the side, the chips were stale, and my jalapeรฑo prickly pear margarita looked gorgeous but tasted off. Even though the food was kind of disappointing, it didnโt really matter. We got to spend some time catching up and enjoying time with each other, and our babysitter put the kids to bed. That alone is a huge win.ย
Sunday morning, I took an early Orangetheory class, and then we went to the heritage conference to check out all of the old war planes.
Our first trip to the Heritage Conference:
And now:
(Wearing the infamous Leith dress)ย
We grabbed lunch at Zinburger, the Pilot took the girls to the park while I caught up on some work, and we had sushi roll bowls here at home.
Today, I have a pretty intense to-do list to crank through and Iโm taking the day off from the gym.
This is random, but a friend mentioned going to a float tank here in Tucson and Iโm totally intrigued. Has anyone tried it? Did you feel claustrophobic? Did you worry about drowning? I think it sounds SO peaceful, but am kind of nervous about trying it. (Apparently the salt content in the water makes you float, and itโs a dark room or little pod type thing, so youโre totally removed from sensory input. Youโre supposed to feel like youโre floating through outer space and it can help with anxiety, depression, or pain. It sounds amazing and terrifying at the same time.)ย
I hope you have a happy Monday and Iโll see ya in the morning with a new workout!
xo
Gina
PS. Need a laugh? Just watch this. I was cracking up the entire time.ย
***What a fun weekend! Those capybaras look terrifying! Go Liv ๐
I love reading about all your adventures. Canโt wait to start taking my little guy (5.5 months right now) our to new fun places!**
***That little animal farm looks so cute! We live in Scottsdale, so we might have to make a trip to see it one day! Your girls are so cute!
The float tanks simultaneously intrigue and terrify me! **
**love the goats. And the margaritas **
*What a fun weekend. Would love to hear your thoughts on the float tank!*
**Your family is seriously so beautiful! I can’t get over the first pic vs now at the Heritage Conference. Ah! I don’t think I could handle a float tank but agree it SOUNDS really nice in theory. I’m making your sweet potato + black bean chili today- it’s still FREEZING where I live so (unfortunately) it’s a perfect day for it.
*I totally agree about the float tanks!! They sounds so intriguing but make me super nervous at the same time ๐ **
So fun! **
**What a fun weekend. You had better weather than we did. We had lots of snow. I canโt wait for warmer weather. Have a wonderful week
** I don’t think I could do goats… I’ve seen pics and videos of goat yoga gone bad where the goats peed on the participants! LOL That would be my luck!
Those pics of your girls with the animals are so adorable ๐ **
Where in Tucson is this farm?! Googling now, looks fun! ***
Those are some super cute goats! Iโve always wondered about those floating spas too. I think Iโd be to claustrophobic! **
I definitely want to try a float tank too! **
** I tried a float tank once- it was ok but I wasn’t blown away by it. You do float with the water, and it’s supposed to be the same temperature as your skin, but I found I was a little cold. I thought I could recreate the experience by laying with an eye mask over my eyes in bed- though I never do that for an hour, so maybe it’s more about creating the time and space for the activity?
**** Looks like a fun weekend!
**Those goats are the cutest! What a fun weekend! I’ve always wanted to try a float tank, floating is my go-to meditation visualization!
**The goats are so cute! I have never done a float tank but am curious…if you try it out let us know how it is! It seems like it could be amazing or terrifying
I totally want to try a float tank. Iโve only heard rave reviews about them! The idea of being able to do nothing sounds so appealing. **
***Sounds like a fun weekend! I am jealous of your weather! We had rain all weekend.
**soooo cute!
Ahhhh goats are the cutest! We have two Nigerian Dwarfs and theyโve been a blast for our girls ?? **
* that baby goat that P is holding is totally making me want one! So adorable *
**So fun! I can’t wait until the weather is a little nicer and I can take my daughter to the zoo for the first time!
my cousin has a goat farm in Florida! It is totally my happy place! Last time I was there she was up to 41 goats with a couple brand new babies. I wanted to die!*****
*** our local Gymboree is closing which is a huge bummer. Hope it’s not the start of something worse.
Those goats **
**what a fun experience!
*I too am equally intrigued and panicked by the idea of a float tank. A friend of mine highly recommends it, though! Hope you try it.
You have to try goat yoga!!**
*** best weekend ever!! Makes me wish spring would hurry up and get to New Jersey soon
Looks like a great weekend! I’m too chicken to try a float tank, haha **
** oh, my kids are going to a Goats and Gardens camp this summer and they are so excited!
**I have always wanted goats too!
*Your weekend adventure has me googling the closest place to interact with goats now. Looks like such fun*
**Yes to all the goats!! A friend in SD has a couple and theyโre hilarious – always climbing on things and very, very vocal haha.
Iโve always wanted to try a float tank – if you do it, please review it!!**
**omg this is so cool!! What a fun weekend!
**interesting…float tank idea seems fun!
Personal opinion: NO! to the float tank. Maybe it was just my local one, but it was dirty with hairs (not my own!) floating around me throughout the 60 minutes. It took away any enjoyment and relaxation from the process. Then at the end, when the filters kicked back on, all sorts of debris was floating around with me! Yuck! Take a warm bath at home in your clean tub with some candles and low lights for a much better experience! **
** I want an emu!
**super sweet!!!!! So happy you are all back together again!
I loled so much at that video! Glad you guys are all together again ๐ **
*OMG the baby goats! So adorable! So glad you all are reunited as a family and back to adventuring together! Happy Monday!*
Looks like a fun weekend!! I did a series of floats last year! They recommend doing one every couple days to get the most benefits. I think i did 5 over 2 weeks. I really enjoyed it! Super relaxing. Muscles felt great. I felt great. I got a little claustrophobic the first time when i turned all the lights off, so initially i kept the little night light on. But after a couple times, the darkness didnโt bother me any. The only reason i havenโt continued is because 1) itโs not cheap. And 2) itโs a decent time commitment. Float is about an hour, but you also have the pre & post float shower. And just getting to the facility takes time. And right now i just donโt have an extra 2 hours every couple of days to invest. But it is an awesome experience!! **
***The picture of Liv holding the chickeniterally makes me lose my breath. I have an irrational fear of live chickens.
Oh my gosh. The goats how could you not love them **
The goats are precious! **
**who doesnโt love goats!
What a fun weekend!! ***
*Oh my goodness, the goats are precious. For some reason, they’ve been my 3 yr son’s favorite animal since he could talk… He would love this! <3*
Aww those baby goats!! Iโve seen baby goat yoga events and I totally need to go now! **
What a fun weekend! ****
P.S. – I seriously LOVE that P is so into Athleisure wear – too dang cute!
*That picture of P and that baby goat is adorable!! And that video of Dax and Kristen is hilarious! Lol!!!*
*** glad you have your husband home! Looked like you had a nice weekend with a date night and some alone time:)
Omg I want to snuggle all those baby goats!!! **
So fun! I have been using your what to do in San Diego guides to find things for my family to do while we are stationed here. So far your guides have been very helpful! Thank you! **
We love the Funny Foot Farm! It has gotten so much better since it has first opened and we love seeing the new additions to the farm! Iโve been wanting to try that floatation place, but Iโm worried I would fall asleep in it. Could that happen? I love that you are back in tucson so that I can get insight into places and restaurants. *
