The proof is in the pudding

I’ve been crying on and off all day today.

People must think I’m crazy.. walking around with my belly sticking out and bloodshot eyes, goofy grin on my face.

I’m excited, thrilled beyond belief, and shocked.

We had our halfway ultrasound today- the last one before we get to meet the little nugget in person.

We got to our appt at 8:30 and I was surprised when a male technician called us back for our ultrasound. It was my first time having a dude as the ultrasound tech, and he was fantastic. He explained everything so thoroughly and per usual, my heart soared as soon as I saw the tiny figure on the screen.

baby

He did a LOT of measurements today, to make sure everything was healthy and according to plan.

We got to see each part in detail:

the belly

skull and parts of the brain

kidneys, stomach

heart and 4 chambers

umbilical cord and placenta (which is located where it should be)

arms

face

spine

the tech said everything looked absolutely beautiful and healthy… all I wanted to hear.

And then he said “You both keep referring to this baby as a ‘he’” and then zoomed in between the babies legs, from the bottom so you could see the two thigh bones

and unmistakable….

lady bits.

outfit

“That’s 100% a girl.”

jammies

Little nugget is a GIRL <3

I didn’t even make it to the car until I was crying my face off. We hugged in the parking lot for at least 5 minutes, me crying, and both of us letting it finally sink in. I was half-crying because everything looks healthy and so thankful for the reassurance, and half-crying because I’m so shocked and excited. I was just as excited for a boy, but to finally, really know, for SURE is pretty amazing.

Plus:

-dance classes

-tutus and

-sparkles 😀

She is going to have Tom wrapped around her little finger.

Thank goodness for good store exchange policies, right?

clothes

This little beanie is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.

beanie

So this means 4 things:

1) The tech who did the ultrasound at the other place probably shouldn’t have been “so positive” that it was a boy.

2) My acupuncturist actually was right! (along with everyone else in my family, excluding myself)

3) We ordered more gluten-free cupcakes, this time with pink frosting in the middle [most of the family already knows, but we did it for fun.. and because the cupcakes were incredible]

4) One of my favorite dreams happened around 2 years ago, and I still think about it often because it was so vivid. I’ve written about it before, but here’s an almondshell version of it:

I wake up to a little girl lightly brushing my face. “Mommy, wake up,” she says, “Dad is making pancakes!”. I open my eyes and see the most beautiful little girl- my daughter. [I remember every detail about her face, her blue jammies, and what the house looks like… which is scarily similar to what this house looks like] The smell of pancakes and bacon fills the air and I walk downstairs with her to see the my husband and older sister making pancakes and goofing around in the kitchen together.

When the dream first happened, I told Tom about it, because it was on my mind for a while. I knew I wanted a family so badly, but we weren’t in the time and place where it would be feasible.

And now, it’s actually coming true <3

  3. Lindsay on August 12, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Oh wow!! It’s so funny because when I read the first post saying it was a boy, I didn’t think that could be true…I know, I don’t even know you, but for some reason I just kept thinking that there was no way you were having a boy! As a mother to an almost three year old girl, I am SO EXCITED for you! My little princess is so fun!! You are going to love living out your dream! Congrats!

  4. Diana on August 12, 2011 at 8:17 pm

BEYOND excited for you!!! I always always felt that you’d be having a girl, I was surprised when you announced it was a boy!

  5. Tsmi on August 12, 2011 at 8:19 pm

  6. Carrie on August 12, 2011 at 8:22 pm

That is wonderful! 🙂 I know it would be great to have a healthy baby- girl or boy- but I experienced almost the exact same thing with my pregnancy. Everyone kept thinking I was going to have a boy and when I went for an early sonogram, the tech said that she was pretty sure it looked like a boy, though she wasn’t 100%. With everyone’s comments and the tech’s assessment, I was sure I was having a boy. When I got my sonogram at 20 weeks they confirmed I was having a girl. While I boy would have been just as great, I was so delighted to be having a girl. I knew I wanted at least one girl out of all my children and this just ensured that would happen. I will never forget the feeling I had. Congratulations!!! 🙂

    Gina,

Congratulations on your dream come true. I had tears in my eyes by the time I finished reading this post. I hope one day that I can find a husband, start a family and be so happy in love like you are. Keep being an inspiration

i have a daughter who is a month old and it’s so wonderful!!! my hubby and i were convinced it was a boy before our sonogram and we also had such an emotional afternoon being thrilled and adjusting to the new idea that it was a girl. ps – my baby already has my hubby wrapped around her little finger!!

  10. April @ Grits and Granola Bars on August 12, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Congrats! Daughters are wonderful 🙂 I have two and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. (And hey, now you don’t have to worry about that pesky circumcision issue!)

    • Jenn P on August 13, 2011 at 8:58 am

HA – I was just thinking the same thing! I had twin girls last year and after the initial excitement of the gender news wore off, my more practical side took over and said, “Thank GOD I don’t have to worry about that issue”.

Along the lines of practicality, do you get a refund from the 4D studio… or at least a hefty discount on a 3D/4D session later on? They shouldn’t have told you that they were so sure if they weren’t! You’re lucky all that you bought was some refundable clothing items.

  11. April @ Grits and Granola Bars on August 12, 2011 at 8:39 pm

By the way….funny story 🙂 At our last ultrasound with our first daughter (we had found out she was a girl already) we got the same ultrasound tech as before and she goes, “Yep…still a boy!!” and I almost had a heart attack on the spot. Of course she was just joking 😉 haha! Glad you guys found out that she was a girl before the big day. That would have been a shock!

This happened to one of my friends today too! Told she was having a boy but ended up as a girl at her ultrasound appt this morning. Crazy.

And I bet you are SO excited! I know either way is exciting, but I remember the anticipation of having my little girl. There’s something special about that mother/daughter bond.

  28. Dominique on August 12, 2011 at 10:33 pm

OMG I am SO happy for you. I would want a happy, healthy baby too but would secretly wish for a girl. I remember when you described how you were carrying your baby weight and thought it sounded like what most people think will be a girl.

  29. Sarah on August 12, 2011 at 10:51 pm

I had a feeling it was a girl! Such a blessing either way, but so excited for you to finally know for sure!

  34. Amanda on August 12, 2011 at 11:43 pm

Thats amazing! Holy cow! How surprised were you to get that kinda news???? You can have a little dancer : )

When my best friend was pregnant with her first child the ultrasound said boy…. all the ultrasounds said boy. When she had the baby though everybody was blown out of the water when a girl a came out : ) ……I guess the umbilical cord looked like boy parts, lol. But uhhhhh they had to take the baby home in boy clothes because they had no girl clothes.

  35. Jane on August 12, 2011 at 11:46 pm

Oh my gosh Gina, congratulations!!! This post made me cry, it’s so sweet. I can’t wait for you guys to meet Baby Fitnessista. <3

  37. Heather S on August 12, 2011 at 11:50 pm

Yay for little girls 🙂 I’m due first week of January with our own little girl! Zulily.com and etsy.com have stolen all my money. LOTS of tutus, headbands, and ruffled diaper covers 🙂

  38. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on August 12, 2011 at 11:54 pm

Congrats! I had three theories after your tweet this morning: 1) twins. 2) girl not boy and 3) further along than you thought. I was rooting for twins because I think you guys would ROCK at having two babies, but it’s awesome that you’re having a little babyista instead! 🙂 You’re right, she’ll totally have the Pilot wrapped right around her little finger! 🙂

PS. Do you read Emily’s blog, Emphasis Added? She had a little girl a few months ago and her baby fashion is ah-mazing! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 12, 2011 at 11:59 pm

since you posted that i’ve gone through about 8 pages on her site, haha

  39. Laury @ thefitnessdish on August 13, 2011 at 12:02 am

I just wrote on your reg post how EXCITED I am for you…but wanted to say it here again!!!

We went into my 20 week ultrasound CONVINCED it was a boy (unlike you who thought really and they were mistaken). It was kinda a shock..sounds dumb but everyone had us convinced because how I was carrying. Which I think it bologna. Anyway. Michael saif in a matter of seconds when they said “girl” he went form Little League and watching football to “I have to start saving for a wedding.” Hahaha. He’s like, you girls are going to tkae such advantage of me. So true.

Ella’s wardrobe is like 5 times the size of mine and she’s so much more fashionable too. I should send you stuff that she’s never even worn…like seriously so so so cute but she never got through it all!!!!!!

  43. char @ char on a mission on August 13, 2011 at 12:21 am

Wow, that must have come as a complete shock eh?! I honestly didn’t think they could be ‘positive’ if they didn’t know 100%. Either way, you have a healthy, happy baby swimming away in there! And your baby is going to be gorgeous no matter what. Beautifully written post – absolutely loved it (and the wee baby hat!)

  44. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on August 13, 2011 at 1:31 am

  45. geetha on August 13, 2011 at 1:38 am

Ginaaaa….u r not going to believe this….all through, even when you announced to everyone that it was a boy, i reaallly reaally felt that it would be a girl and that your next ultra sound appointment is going to confirm that!…so happy and excited….not that a boy is any less….but tutus, sparkles..having the daddy wrapped around the lil’ finger………………………priceless! Happy for ya girl.

    • geetha on August 13, 2011 at 1:40 am

and a lot of moms with low fuller(hanging) bellies have always had boys as far as i’ve seen…that was something that kept me thinking ‘girl’

Oh and I just love the little footie pjs!!

  48. Casey Lorraine on August 13, 2011 at 5:39 am

Gina this is so amazing and beautiful!! Congratulations on your healthy little girl! Love reading your family posts so much as I get closer to considering one of my own.
Btw, my parents were told my brother was a girl and that I was a boy, and both were opposite! Except they found out for sure both times when we came out of my mum ;). They couldn’t take the clothes back so I were many pairs of overalls for my first years 😉 and names had to be totally changed!

  49. Krystina (Organically Me) on August 13, 2011 at 7:42 am

Gina! This is such exciting news! I read it as soon as I woke up and it touched my heart. Congrats on the baby girl. 🙂
