Mini Me-als
Hiiiii 😀 How are you? I’m excited to have so many new virtual walking buddies– let me know how it goes and if you feel a difference in your day 🙂 Also, thank you so much to all of you who are supporting Katie’s bake sale for Japan! I promise to hook up my macaroon goodie package winner something fierce 😉
So this post title has two sources:
1. This mini meal:
The Pilot and I call each other (and Bella) a wide variety of nicknames, all of which are totally random and ridiculous.
Somehow Bella —> Bell —-> Beal —-> Meal.
I have no idea how it happened, either 😉
2. My fuel of choice: mini meals 🙂
(Stir fry with tomatoes, onion, broccoli, kidney beans, cumin, garlic, cayenne, sea salt and pepper)
Since spring has sprung-ish, I find myself wanting smaller more frequent meals. I usually prefer this style of eating, as it keeps me super satisfied and my metabolism cranking/ When it’s chilly outside, I crave larger meals to warm me up 🙂
Lately, it’s been roasty toasty in Tucson –we hit the 90s last week!- and for the past month or so, I’ve been enjoying 5-6 smaller, yet deliciously satisfying meals throughout the day. I say “mini” because it sounds cute, but always make sure each smaller meal has enough calories to support my activity level for the day.
Some examples:
Protein pudding
(1 container goat’s milk yogurt, 1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior, almond milk to thin it out, cinnamon and 1 square dark chocolate with sea salt)
Wraps:
(today’s was a brown rice tortilla with organic chicken, farmer’s market goat cheese and veggies. They’re just as lovely with hummus, beans or eggs)
Carrots with hummus and raw sunflower seeds
(Tip: did you know 1/4 C sunflower seeds has 8g of protein?! Word)
I’m about to get ready for dance, but before I go, check out this video if you’d like your heart to melt 🙂
(I’ve watched it at least 4 times already)
See ya in the morning with a giveaway 🙂
xoxo

Something to read: "Set up a home gym on the cheap" <—- thanks so much to Womans Day for the shout out!!
Something to talk about: Do you do the mini meal thing, or 3 square meals? What’s the strangest nickname you have for your pet?
We have 3 doggies at our house:
Harley – Harley Barley (he’s a black chihuahua)
Gracie – Gracie Poo (she’s a white w/black spots chihuahua)
Nala – Nala Bala – Nala Bala Poo Poo – Poopie (she’s a 1 year old pug)
bella (a beagle): bean, beans, beans baba, frances, francel beans. ellie (a golden retriever): ells, eely, eligator, lil-ellie, eloise. both dogs together: beanie babies and boondoggles. i have no explanation for these nicknames.
My dog Chase has a bunch of crazy nicknames, most of them not the most flattering names! A few of his best ones: Johnny Wigglebutt, Senor Poopypants, Chester the Molester, Bratigan.
This is why I read blogs, they make me feel normal about the “weird” things I do! I call my cat Lilo Buppy or Bups. I have no idea where it came from. My other cat I first named Penelope but I changed it to Nelly over the years… Now her nicknames are Nelson or Belly.
Our dog’s name is Chubby. We call her Chubbs, Chubster, Chub Chub.
🙂 She is a bichon and kinda looks like Bella! Sweet face!
Gina,
I have been a silent reader of your blog for about 2 years now and I never comment, but I got up the bravery to do so today because I have to tell you, you were SUCH an inspiration to me as I began training for my 1st Fitness Competition. I am now in training for my 4th show this year (on May 21) and your blog seriously helps me with food ideas that actually taste amazing! I am hooked on your blog! Thank you so much for showing the world that being healthy and eating well doesn’t have to be torture! 🙂 You’re wonderful!
hey meghan,
that is AWESOME! thank you so much for reading, for saying hi and letting me know! what an incredible accomplishment to be training for your 4th show- off to check out your blog 🙂
xoxo
Thank you Gina! You’re fantastic. My blog is hardly quite up to the awesomeness of yours, but I write from time to time. 😉 So I have a question for you too…do you think instead of Sun Warrior Protein, I could use just another type of vanilla protein for a lot of your recipes? I always use ON Nutrition protein powder, it’s my fave! 🙂 Whaddya think?
PS- The white dress you fell in love with, OMG! GORGEOUS! 😀
of course, you can use whatever protein powder you would like 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 Now I gotta do some test-cookin!
I have a dog named Alan (a girl, don’t ask…) and somehow her nickname became Beans. My other dog Eddy over time just became Beddy. Love pet nicknames! 🙂
I am waaaay late to the party on this one, but:
Spike-20 pound, ten year old rescue mutt 🙂 : SpikeyBoy, Senor Puppy Pants (i’m serious, unfortunately), ItsyBitsySpider, Big Boy, Lil Boy, Crispy Wheats and Raisins. (Utter lunacy. I know.)
Ace-125 pound (!), four y.o. American Bulldog: AceyBoy, Fat Boy, Fat Boy Slim, Hey Skinny, Mama’s Baby, Daddy’s
Good Boy, Monkey.
It just comes pouring out…love will make you say some strange things!!! 🙂
