Baby punched me

I havenโ€™t been able to feel the little lady kick and move as much as Iโ€™d *like* to.

[CRAZY pic!!]

It may take more time (? Iโ€™m almost 22 weeks), but everyone keeps asking me, โ€œAre you feeling lots of kicks?!โ€

โ€œYes! I love it!โ€

Ehh, not really.

Iโ€™ll feel little butterflies and pops, especially after having a little sugar. I ate a mango yesterday and she went ccrrrraazzzyyyy. But, Iโ€™ve been anxiously awaiting the time where I could be walking around and get kicked in the ribs. Thatโ€™s what I want.

So the other night, I was resting and went upstairs to the bedroom to lay down and read. I put my hand on my belly, and focused, trying to feel the baby kick.

Right where my hand was, I felt a solid PUNCH.

And that was it.

As if to say โ€œI AM in here, you punk. Now stop freaking out.โ€

_________________________________________________________

Since the baby can hear outside voices and sounds, weโ€™ve been talking to her a lot more and Iโ€™d like to start reading books soon.

We have a song that I play for her almost every time weโ€™re in the car

[this is where the post gets mushy]

โ€œHavenโ€™t Met You Yetโ€ by Michael Buble.

He performed the song on Ellen and sang it to a pregnant womanโ€™s belly โ€“ the episode aired during one of the Pilotโ€™s many times away. And cried. I wanted him there with me and I wanted to be pregnant so badly.

It still makes me cry, but for very happy reasons <3

  5. Emily Malone on August 27, 2011 at 4:17 pm

I felt almost nothing until 23 or 24 weeks. Trust me, it IS coming! (And I know that is annoying to hear, I’m sorry.) I had a few weeks of big kicks and pokes, and now that he’s so big (33 weeks) it’s more like big pushes and surges. It’s a constantly changing experience!

Also, that picture totally freaks me out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Awww, baby kicks from the inside are so amazing, arent they! Skylar wasn’t really a kicker, but she was a spinner and a roller. Like on a little ferris wheel inside my belly ๐Ÿ™‚

And that pic is just CRAZY cool!

What a total tear-up song, for sure. I’d be sitting in pile of water after that one ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Jess on August 27, 2011 at 4:49 pm

Well I am 26 weeks today and while I do feel more movement, not too many kicks. Turns out I have an anterior placenta (in the front) which can act as a pillow for all of those kicks.

  11. Ashley on August 27, 2011 at 4:50 pm

Is that picture with the foot real?!

  12. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on August 27, 2011 at 4:53 pm

Yay ๐Ÿ™‚ this post is so sweet. Pregnancy is so crazy– you have a PERSON with a PERSONALITY and THOUGHTS inside of you!! it’s so amazing ! ๐Ÿ™‚

glad she’s making her presence more known!

  13. Melissa on August 27, 2011 at 5:09 pm

My sister is about 10 weeks ahead of you. She said she can play “target” with her baby – she pushes her stomach and the baby kicks/punches back. She also said the baby went crazy when she shined a flashlight on her stomach.

  14. Sabrina on August 27, 2011 at 5:25 pm

    So sweet.

Bambino has been good lately, but today he has been hanging out like IN my rib and Trig had to physically push him down because I was in so much pain. What a little brat, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. Rita on August 27, 2011 at 5:28 pm

I remember that I was 30 weeks and my dalmation laid her head on my belly and the baby kicked her. the look on that dog’s face was priceless….love the pic and the story. I am truly a Bublette and did see that Ellen ep. Enjoy this time.

  16. Mandy on August 27, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Baby isn’t big enough to be all up in your ribs at that point, anyway! Or probably head down for that matter, though mine’s been head down since like.. 25 weeks. I’m 32 weeks right now and baby JUST started actually kicking me in the ribs, and it is mucho uncomfortable. Hahah. Don’t worry, it’ll happen. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Definitely a SuperBaby.

Holy cow, as someone who is in no way ready to have babies, that picture is somethingggg.. I feel mildly scarred now haha.

Awww, so sweet!! I’m sure you’ll feel more and more punches and tickles as she gets bigger. ๐Ÿ™‚

That first pic always creeps me out a bit, lol. Photoshopped, I believe?

  21. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on August 27, 2011 at 6:42 pm

WOW! That picture is intense! I seriously thought that was you for a sec lol

And I love the Michael Buble song dedication– so cutee ๐Ÿ™‚

Aww that’s so sweet that you felt her punch. That must have been such an amazing moment for you!

YES I love Michael Buble. His song “Everything” is absolutely perfect. If a guy ever sang that to me I think I would propose to him on the spot! ๐Ÿ˜›

  23. Karin on August 27, 2011 at 7:15 pm

The kicks will come and maybe other things. When I was pregnant with my son, he would get the hiccups around 10:00pm every night, and they would last until around midnight (about the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy). It was annoying, but it was just his way of saying ‘hello’.
Enjoy all the kicks, and bumps. It is just an incredible experience.

  24. Kristi @ Sweet Cheeks on August 27, 2011 at 7:36 pm

    awww that is awesome!!!

  25. Sana on August 27, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Your little lady is full of sass!

  26. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on August 27, 2011 at 8:40 pm

Haha she definitely was making you aware of her presence! My hubs will put his face on my stomach just to have her punch him in the face ๐Ÿ™‚

Being 33 weeks now I feel less kicks and more pushing and squirming. So many factors can affect how often you are feeling her move. I will say rib kicks are less endearing than they sound … they are downright uncomfortable! ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Stephanie on August 27, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Punch, or high five? I’ll bet she was high-fiving you.

I can completely empathize with your “I wanted him here and I wanted to be pregnant”…it’s so FREAKING hard to get pregnant when you’re a military wife. We’ve been trying for 14 months now, but in between trainings and operations and in-between postings, we’ve probably only hit the right timing for a few of those months. I swear, one of these days I’m just going to collect his boys in a turkey baster. That stuff’ll keep in the fridge, right? (errrrr…sorry. Too much information.)

  28. Dani @ RunFitMama on August 27, 2011 at 10:40 pm

That is not silly! When I was pregnant, I played “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti all the time and then once J was in the “real world,” I swear that he’d loved that song ever since (He also loves Michael Jackson, which is probably also my doing). I truly think singing and talking to the baby are so important before they are here. I think as future mamas and dadas it makes you feel so much for connected.

And don’t worry, the monster kicks will be here before you know it. Just wait, you’ll be sitting around, thinking everything is normal, and then the babe rolls over and your belly is a contorting in ways you never thought possible.

  29. Marie on August 28, 2011 at 12:33 am

I did not feel a lot of movement until probably around 25 weeks. Hang in there- it is magical at first, gets kind of annoying (but I had a 9+ lb, 21 in. baby that loved to stretch so maybe that was part of the problem!), and then when it’s over you will miss it, forget what it’s like and want to do it all over again just to “remember”.

  30. Sarah Crowder on August 28, 2011 at 10:08 am

This is unrelated and I hope I didn’t miss a post about this, but I was wondering: Do you have any recommendations for maternity workout clothes? I do yoga and a random assortment of other activities and am just starting to show, so I’m in the market for a few key pieces to take me through the rest of my pregnancy!

  31. Lisa on August 28, 2011 at 10:30 am

Aaw this is sweet. Sounds like she’s practicing her zumba! Just wait till she’s bigger; those kicks can hurt.

  32. Jess @moderngirlsguide on August 28, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Whoa! The foot poking out the belly pic is craaazy!! So happy the bubba punched you.. well you know what I mean. I’m totally broody at the moment and reading your journey is so lovely for me. I can’t wait to experience some of the things you are when the time comes.

Love the Michael Buble song. I play it soo loud in the car. Like some kinda crazy person :-0

  33. Steph on August 28, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I had a song I sang frequently while preggo. After my son was born and became extremely colicky, I would play that song for him and it really seemed to calm him down!

  34. Sara V. on August 28, 2011 at 8:10 pm

haha yes, the foot picture is photoshopped. It is pretty cool though, huh?

  35. Jen on August 29, 2011 at 9:42 am

I’m 25 weeks and still just feel flutters. I’ve felt a few large movements, but it doesn’t happen often. I’m also jealous of the women who get kicked and punched all the time. That sounds weird ๐Ÿ˜‰
