Something legendary landed in Tucson….

it’s a bright, shiny, new Whole Foods!

Meg and I were kindly invited to check out a preview night before the store officially opens later this week. After our little tour and taste around, I’m even more excited than I was before.

Something that sets this Whole Foods apart from the other two in Tucson: it has a legit hot bar,

and BAR bar, with flat screen TVs, wine and local beers on tap.

I don’t think it will be difficult to convince the Pilot to hang out there with me 😉

Throughout the evening, we were thoroughly wined and dined. There were stations set up throughout the store, featuring fresh baked goods

regional fare, salads

Wine and taco 1 of 1

antipasto tables with various prosciuttos, olives and cheese,

soups, mini grilled cheese sandwiches (which had caramelized onions on them… amazing)

sushi

and an entire table of goat-milk based goodies.

Sorry the pic is a little blurry. I was shaking with happiness haha.

We even got to meet a few Tucson bloggers, including Natalie (and her beautiful family!), and Kristi:

I debated trying to spend the night inside -you would have found me this morning, covered in nut butter, chocolate and goat cheese, but had to come back to check out my patients 😉 The Pilot did great for his surgery and Liv was totally fine after her shot. (She screamed for a little while, but the pediatrician gave her a new book, which was the perfect post-immunization distraction)

I had a blast with my lovely date

and can’t wait to come back with the fam when it opens 🙂

Now, time to scheme a way to replicate those goat milk caramels at home…..

See ya later today <3

That’s just like the WF near me! I call it the Disneyland of WF. It’s my favorite “restaurant!”

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 11:54 am

      ahhhhh i’m so stoked

    • Shaina Anderson on January 15, 2013 at 12:09 pm

The Pasadena, CA whole foods?! That place is AMAZING.

  3. Julie @ Sweetly Balanced on January 15, 2013 at 11:54 am

I’m so jealous!!! That sounds like so much fun and I looooove Whole Foods!

  4. Madison on January 15, 2013 at 11:59 am

Wow–I am salivating! What a fun night!

  5. Jayme on January 15, 2013 at 11:59 am

O.M.G. You are so lucky! We do have a Whole Foods very near me in Carmel, Indiana…and while I am there about 2 times a week and do love it…it has NOTHING on your new one! I am so jealous! My husband and I always check out the WF’s in other cities while on vacations or long weekends (nerdy, right?) and usually leave wishing that ours would be more like those bigger, fancier versions we visit. Our “hot bar” was so eagerly anticipated and it’s such a sad state of affairs that I have never bought one thing from it. 🙁

Enjoy your new WF! Love the bar idea too! I would have to get a new job just to support my WF habit if that were here! 🙂

  6. Kerry @ Totes My Oats on January 15, 2013 at 12:00 pm

How exciting that you and Meg were able to preview it and eat tons of goodies!

  7. Haley Tuthill on January 15, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Where in Tucson is it located?

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 12:02 pm

      river and craycroft

  8. Jennifer on January 15, 2013 at 12:07 pm

Yum! I can’t wait to see the recipe for carmels with goat milk. We don’t have a Whole Foods. 🙂

  9. joelle (on a pink typewriter) on January 15, 2013 at 12:17 pm

They served up wine?! I didn’t know you could drink in a WF when you purchase hot foods bar goodies. Makes it even more of my heaven.

PS. How chilly is it over there (noticed your cold weather gear)? I’m in Vegas nearby, and it’s cooler than normal, but not quite scarf weather. Maybe that is only because I’m used to living in D.C.?

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 12:20 pm

YES! it officially had everything i love to eat and drink 😉
it was 25 last night!!! i hate it! haha

  10. Stellina @My Yogurt Addiction on January 15, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I love Whole Foods! They are opening a brand new one about a mile from my house. To saythat I am excited is an understatement!

By the way, this has nothing to do with this post, but I was going through your youtube channel the other day and really love your videos! Especially the ones about the pilot coming home and the Q&A.(so cute!)

I would love to see a post on how you do your vlogs, how you edit them etc. I myself am going to start vlogging so I think that would be beneficial for a lot of bloggers out there. It’s possible that you’ve already done a post like that, and I just don’t know about it!

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 12:48 pm

      thank you so much! <3
i could do one about how i edit them, but my skills are on the low end of the spectrum haha

  11. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on January 15, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Omg that Whole Foods looks legendary! A real hot bar, juice bar and legit bar? Oh my gosh! I don’t blame you for wanting to spend the night there- it looks amazing! I wish we would get a new one… the hot bar at mine consists of like 4 trays… no bueno.

  12. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on January 15, 2013 at 12:26 pm

What an awesome experience! I wish my area had a Whole Foods, but the closest one is about four hours away! We just got a Trader Joes though, so I’m super happy about that!

  13. Tonya @ Will Run For Yoga on January 15, 2013 at 12:28 pm

I am soo jealous. The nearest Whole Foods is an hour away. I try to go every two months and stock up on things I can’t find locally.

  14. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on January 15, 2013 at 12:29 pm

Wow I want to hang out at this Whole Foods every day!! An actual bar? Count me in! I sometimes spend a good 20 minutes in the nut butter section picking out my next jar 🙂

  15. Robyn (GirlonRaw) on January 15, 2013 at 12:31 pm

Oh wow you are so lucky to have something like this so close to you. I can only dream here in Saudi Arabia.

This store looks a lot like the WF we visited in Huntington Beach on our trip to LA last year. I loved that I could get my green juice and Pat could get his beer 🙂

  16. Lauren @ Berry Sweet Lauren on January 15, 2013 at 12:32 pm

I absolutely love Whole Foods, especially the big ones like you guys just got in Tucson. Funny thing is I just did a post about the one in Chicago. But now we need a juice bar too!

  17. Emily on January 15, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Um, funny story: we were almost kicked out of a Whole Foods bar once. The bartender thought we were already drunk and called his manager. We weren’t drunk; we were just so happy and giddy that there was a bar!

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 12:44 pm

      hahaha! i love it

  18. Christina on January 15, 2013 at 12:42 pm

l-o-v-e your scarf! where did you get it?

  19. Brittany @ Kitchen::Candid on January 15, 2013 at 12:43 pm

I can’t get enough Whole Foods. I had to go over a year without one and now that we’ve moved again it is back in my life. Last week the hot bar was Indian Food. It. was. awesome!

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 12:46 pm

i lived for 4 years without one. it was horrible
      LOVE their indian food, too!

  20. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on January 15, 2013 at 12:43 pm

Oh what I wouldn’t give to have a Whole Foods open up around here. They’re not all that common in Canada and we don’t have one in my city… hopefully it’ll happen someday though! And it’s great to hear that both The Pilot and Liv are doing well 🙂

  21. Sami on January 15, 2013 at 1:01 pm

AHhhh! You lucky duck 🙂 Can you talk to your friends at WF and convince them to please open one in Central Pennsylvania, please? 🙂 Harrisburg area would be WONDERFUL 😉

    xo.

  22. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on January 15, 2013 at 1:04 pm

I love how grocery stores are now opening and becoming spots to hang out and enjoy your time in- rather than just another chore to do, and finish as quickly as possible. Looks absolutely luxurious!

  23. Lindsay on January 15, 2013 at 1:12 pm

Wow! That Whole Foods looks incredible, the hot bar is huge and the juice bar too. A Whole Foods with a bar?! Mine only has Friday night wine tastings, but I guess I’ll have to take what I can get 🙂

  24. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on January 15, 2013 at 1:21 pm

I am so jealous! I don’t even live NEAR a whole foods, let alone three!! This one looks awesome! Especially the HUGE hot bar…thats my favorite part of Whole Foods stores!

Can’t we get a Whole Foods OR a Trader Joes to open closer than 2+ hours away? Share people!! 🙂

  34. Amanda B. on January 15, 2013 at 2:32 pm

    Whoa, this looks awesome!

They’ve been working on rebuilding the WF nearest to me. Here’s to hoping that it’s half as awesome as this one 😉

  35. Rebecca@Runningfoodbaby on January 15, 2013 at 2:46 pm

I’ve never been to a Whole Foods – There isn’t one anywhere near Ottawa 🙁 Not a Trader Joes either.

    You torture me sometimes 😉

I love that “Bar” Bar – that is definitely different!

    • Fitnessista on January 15, 2013 at 4:52 pm

i’m sorry!! i feel your pain- lived without one for 4 years and it was horrible :/

  37. Sheena on January 15, 2013 at 3:08 pm

It looks amazing and that hot bar is so expansive. I love how there is something for everyone! However I think your wallet is shuddering with fear after your visit to the new Whole Foods. 😉

bee tee dubs – LOVE the red lipstick on you!

      no way!

  41. Lauren on January 15, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Oh what I would do for a whole foods or trader joes nearby!!! I guess I’ll have to make do with giant eagle and Kroger!

  42. Vicki on January 15, 2013 at 4:16 pm

Glad to hear that your husband’s doing good after having his wisdom teeth taken out. I had all four of mine taken out on the 20th of last month. I didn’t have any pain afterwards, except for a bit of soreness (mostly it was reminiscent of when I’d had my braces tightened). The worst part was not being able to exercise properly and the taunting of the solid foods my family was eating, but then it was nice to be able to eat ice cream and smoothies. 😉

  43. Lea on January 15, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Love Whole Foods! Want to work there, live there, sleep there, play there. So much great stuff.

  44. laura on January 15, 2013 at 4:46 pm

Your new Whole Foods looks amazing! Yum. 🙂

LOVE your purse! Could you share what brand/designer it is?

  45. Angie on January 15, 2013 at 4:49 pm

SO awesome… in Jacksonville our WholeFoods isn’t exactly… that great. They have a small hot bar.. but I’ve seen better. I wish they’d build a new one here like your new gem!! 🙂

  46. Kim@hungryhealthygirl on January 15, 2013 at 4:54 pm

WOW! Looks like a very awesome store. The nearest one to me is about an hour away and I’ve yet to venture over to it. Reading your post really made me want to go check it out.

  47. Kailey on January 15, 2013 at 4:59 pm

That looks amaaaazing! So jealous-we have two Whole Foods here in Ann Arbor and neither have a juice bar!

  48. Cait @ Chicago Girl Fitness on January 15, 2013 at 5:07 pm

It looks a lot like the Lincoln Park Whole Foods here in Chicago! I could seriously spend hours in that place. The best part is that everyone carries around a glass of wine or beer while they do their grocery shopping 😉

  49. Kim on January 15, 2013 at 6:17 pm

That place looks AMAZING!!! We don’t have even 1 Whole Foods here – wish we did!! I would probably go to the grocery store every day then!!! (Maybe it’s a good thing we don’t have one!)
    Glad everyone survived the day!!!

  50. Kayla on January 15, 2013 at 6:27 pm

Wow so jealous. Closest Whole Foods is over an hour away! Looks amazing!
