Date Night
Sup bloggies 😀 How’s your weekend going??
Since we finished Insanity and showered around 8 last night, we went out to eat because by the time I would have bought groceries and cooked, it would have been laaaaaate.
We dined at the lovely Bleu Cafe 🙂
I had a glorious glass of Riesling:
and chose the vegetarian stir fry bowl for my entree. It’s *supposed* come with saffron rice, but I asked if there was any way I could please have the Cuban black beans instead of the rice.
The put the veggies ON TOP of the black beans:
and I ate it like a soup 🙂
It was SO ridiculously good. The veggies were stir-fried in a teriyaki sauce and combined with the smoky black beans, it was outta control.
The pilot had three tacos (Memphis, South Beach and Savannah) with rice and beans.
It was a great dinner date 🙂
After dinner, we didn’t really feel like going home yet, so we went and walked around Books a Million (because that’s what the cool kids do on a Friday night) 😉
Two new purple books:
I adore Emily Giffin –she writes fun girly books- and a few of my friends have read The 5 Love Languages and recommend it to their married friends, particularly those in the military. Basically it’s about the fact that we all speak different “love languages”. For some people, they like to *hear* that they’re loved, while others feel most loved by *gifts*, and some people feel love through physical touch and so on. It teaches you about why this is so (usually it’s due to upbringing) and how to speak your partner’s love language, so that they feel most loved and their “love tank” is full 😀 Pretty interesting stuff- have any of ya’ll read it?
The morning was definitely a good day for chocolate pancakes up in herrrrre.
The pilot had spelt chocolate-chip pancakes, and I had perfect protein pancakes with some dark chocolate sprinkled in, 1/2 banana and 1 T maple syrup. Protein perfection 😀
We’re off to pump some iron and then hit up the Memorial Day sale at Turner’s furniture. We saw a sleigh bed advertised and today might be the day 😉
Have a happy Saturday!
xoxo,
Gina
Today’s tip: Try these muscle relaxation techniques as a way to soothe yourself to sleep at night
My husband and I read “The 5 Love Languages.” It’s a great book, I’m sure you’ll love it!
I have read the 5 Love Languages. It is great! Good advice, helps clear up some of the confusion that is marriage. 🙂 I made protein pancakes, by the way, and while they were a little dry (my mistake, I am sure), they were delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
you might have to add more milk- some protein powders are different so play around with it a little 🙂
Wow! What a coincidence! Yesterday, we had a substitute at school for my english class and the sub talked to us about the 5 Love Languages. We all sat around in a corner and listened. It was actually pretty interesting, but most of my friends thought it was weird, I guess I like weird things. It seems like an interesting book!
I have heard that both of these books are great! And PS… I took up the cool kids on a Friday night theme to extremes. We stopped by the library after dinner! 😉
whoo hoo!! book party! 🙂
Yum, chocolate chip pancakes sound soo good right now.
That vegetarian stir fry looks fabulous, too. I love when restaurants will make changes for you. 🙂
Happy Saturday!
Jenn
The veggie stry fry looks great and the pancakes. Hope you have a good weekend! 🙂
The 5 Love Languages is a great book! You’ll enjoy it 🙂 They also have one called “The 5 Love languages for Kids” which I got for one of my baby showers and it was really good as well.
Hope you and your pilot have a great weekend! 🙂
Ooh girl I want a sleigh bed, too! Post pictures if y’all get it! 🙂
Aww Emily Giffin – love her books, too! I just finished Heart of the Matter. I really got sucked in and loved it, but it’s definitely a heavier read than say.. Baby Proof. Hahahah still a good one 🙂
I heart Emily Giffin’s books too! I have only read Something Borrowed and Something Blue but I want to read the others. Once we move back to the States, I am totally going to pick them up! I too have hear The 5 Languages of Love is a good book, I hope to get my esposo to read it with me sometime, although I’ll have to find it in Spanish for him.
P.S. I finally tried the protein pancake recipe a couple of weeks ago–so yummy! Thanks for posting the recipe!
so glad you liked the protein pancakes! 🙂
I’d love to hear what you think about the 5 Languages of Love. I’ve heard about it before but wasn’t sure if it was TMI (which, I feel like books about “love” can often be!). But then again…I’ve never been married, so what do I know? 😛
I miss my sleigh bed! Currently I have a jail bar type head board that makes it unbelievably uncomfortable to read in bed. That book seems interesting I’ll have to check it out
The 5 Love Languages just went on my summer reading list! I love how we have such similar interests where it comes to books.
I’ve never heard of the Love Language book but I’ve loved all of Giffin’s novels in the past. Does Pilot do insanity with you? (or did I miss something; I’ll check back older posts)
Katherine
yup he does insanity too 🙂
The 5 Love Languages book is a good one. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Dinner looks like it was yummy!
Ahhhh I love Books a Million!! I lived in the South for college and went to BAM all the time. I can’t do the lovey mushy sappy books though! Politics, health/fitness, yes.
And I have to say, you’re a gal I would loooove to dine out with! That probably didn’t come out right, but I’m super picky with food, and most people think I’m nuts. I know you’d understand! 🙂
Have a lovely weekend!
Sounds like it is going to be a great day for you guys!
Fun! Looks like a great date night! Happy Weekend!
fun fun! I loved the 5 love languages. My top was gifts :). Maybe yours too? haha. I HAVE to try the protein pancakes…sounds so good right now! do you ever make them ahead of time?
I love books like that! My husband and I read one called The Seven Principals for making a Marriage Work (long title!), and it was really good!
Not sure if you watch the Real Housewives of Orange County but Vickie was always talking about the 5 languages and how her husband gave her none and constantly referring to her empty “love tank”! She must have read the book and I’m sure it’s good but this post made me crack up thinking about it.
LOL!
i could NOT remember where i’d heard the phrase “love tank” before!! hahaha i love that show too!
I read The 5 Love Languages but maybe we just weren’t as onboard as we should have been. I discovered (surprise!) that I like presents. But el husband wasn’t up for taking quizzes or reading his section (“What is this, some kind of Cosmo thingy?”). So, I just figured we’d just keep being best buddies and that we communicate just fine on our own.
I haven’t read it but someone gave it to us for our wedding. I had pancakes this morning too! (they were oat-y with some tapioca flour and gluten free :). I couldn’t decide between mini dark chocolate chunks and blueberries, so I had both, with maple syrup and they rocked!
The black beans and veg look amazing! I love browsing around Chapters after a date night!
Oh man! Love Languages are such an incredible phenomenon!!
I did a couple posts about them. Gos is so creative 😀

I hope you get as much out of it as I did!!
the hubs and I read the 5 love languages and it definitely was good for us!
I’ve never heard of the 5 love languages! That’s really interesting though. I’ve always wondered why people are so different in that department. I’m putting it on the list!
I wish I had your guts to request changes when I make an order at a restaurant!! Instead I usually just get the dish as it is on the menu, and end up not fully satisfied. Any tips for asking for changes to a dish? 😀
The five love languages is so good. it’s really helped me to understand my husband a lot better.
The 5 Love Languages is an awesome book and one I recommend to EVERYONE in a relationship. Enjoy.
I read the love languages book. Pretty good I would have never thought of. Definitely a book that one needs to ee-read every couple of years. Everything you make looks so good…can I hire you to be my personal chef :). Can’t blame a girl for trying 😉
The hubby and I took the Love Languages test in the book and found out we were a little different on how we show and receive affection and love. We read the chapters about each others languages and it was pretty cool. We both learned to do things for each other that we may not have naturally done because we understood it was what they other needed.
E’s family pastor used Love Languages as part of our pre-marital counseling, and it completely changed the way we see each other and conflict resolution. I’m curious to see what you and the Pilot get out of it!
love love love emily giffen. i’ve loved everything she’s written. i have that very same book with the very same discount sticker sitting in my pool bag, ready to be broken into today. love languages sound interesting…i’ve read several books that talk about that subject/the fundamental differences between how men and women show love and want love to be shown to them and look forward to any thoughts you have on this one!
Love Emily Giffin and if you lived close I’d give you my sleigh bed. Lol. Upgraded to a King size so my 2 giant furry babies would be able to sleep next to me.
the 5 love languages is a great book, i hope you enjoy it!
I loved the 5 love languages. It seems kind of “duh..this is obvious” while you’re reading it, but I never realized it prior to reading. And I’m just getting started with Emily Giffin’s new one.
Loved the 5 Love Languages…. the book Love & Respect is really good, too
The 5 love languages > excelent book!
