A B-Flizzle Feast

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! Hope youโ€™re relaxing it up on this lovely day ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m still kind of full from last nightโ€™s ridiculous feast.

mesa grill

As yaโ€™ll know, there are two guys that I would really *LOVE* to cook for me.

1) The Pilot

pilot

(hubba, hubba)

As perfect-for-me and crazy in love with him as I am, I will say that heโ€™s not a big time cook. He makes awesome eggs, but other than that, I wear the cooking pants in the familia. He gets bonus points for always washing the dishes, though ๐Ÿ™‚

2) Bobby Flay (aka B-Flizzle)

bobbyflay

Iโ€™ve eaten at his amazing restaurant, but since he wonโ€™t even answer my tweets (haha) Iโ€™m a little doubtful that he would ever personally cook for me ๐Ÿ˜‰

The next best thing?

A homemade Mesa Grill meal for the pilot and I to enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Note: All recipes are from the Mesa Grill Cookbook and many can be found online with mad Google skillz

Iโ€™ve gotta say, it felt pretty weird to make tamales by myself– usually itโ€™s a huge tamale party with my familia ๐Ÿ˜‰

me

I soaked the hojas (pronounced: o-hahz) for a couple of hours:

hojas

Made the masa:
masa

Wrapped โ€˜em up:

tamales

And steamed them in our new food steamer:

steamer (2)

For an appetizer, we had goat cheese queso fundido with roasted poblano vinaigrette (1/2 the recipe, almond milk instead of cowโ€™s, goat gouda for all the cheese, Bucheron goat cheese for the topping)

queso

With organic blue corn chips for dipping:

chips

We also enjoyed some Sophieโ€™s Chopped Salad (named for B-flizzleโ€™s daughter, recipe can be found here โ€“ I skipped out on the cheese since we were already bathing in it from the chipโ€™s and queso)

salad

And the star of the show, Shrimp Tamales:

shrimp tamales

I like to think that the Flay would be proud of me ๐Ÿ™‚

After our feast, we took the puppers to the dog park to run around and play:

A lovely night <3

Iโ€™m off to do some yoga and run errands.

See ya later this afternoon!

xoxo,

Gina

  7. Emily on June 20, 2010 at 10:15 am

I tried making tamales from that book and mine came out nowhere near as tidy as yours! Nice looking feast, for sure ๐Ÿ™‚ I have made his salads though, and whilst I minorly tinkered with some to better suit my own tastes, they were all heavenly.
    Have a good Sunday!

  8. Kelly Michelle on June 20, 2010 at 10:16 am

alright I just want YOU to cook for me

  9. brittany on June 20, 2010 at 10:22 am

I want to start the Summer Shape Up plan but I do not want to lose any way, only tone.. I was wondering if I changed the plan to be weights, every other day, yoga every other day, and just one day of heavy cardio if that would be ok? (If I do cardio more than twice a week I always seem to lose weight!?)
As long as i do at least a 5 minute warm up plus stretching on weights days do I need to do the other 20 mins of light cardio on those days?

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 3:30 pm

that sounds like a great idea ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on June 20, 2010 at 10:52 am

What an awesome dinner! I gave my mom that cookbook for a holiday, but she accidently left it in Arizona. So no Bobby Flay craziness for us.

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 3:30 pm

you’re right, i hate corn. (i ate the masa in the tamales but the corn on my plate ended up being for garnish, until the pilot ate it- haha)

  19. Mo on June 20, 2010 at 11:52 am

I want a shrimp tamale now! The only thing that would have made that feast even better would be a glass of vino. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 3:29 pm

you’re telling me! we only had red vino in the house, though

      of course ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Marissa on June 20, 2010 at 6:46 pm

You always make the most amazing looking dinners! I wish I could put together a menu like that. I’ve never actually had a tamale… add it to my long Bucket List of “things I must eat before I die”

  33. Amanda on June 20, 2010 at 10:28 pm

I added that cookbook to my library wish list and should be picking it up this week. I had the queso & tamales in Vegas not long after you and they did not disappoint. Mmm. I doubt mine will come out as pretty as yours, but ohh I hope they taste good. Looks great!

  34. The Pilot on June 20, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Wait, I grill, too! I guess I don’t really make a good case for my culinary skills since I’ve been known to set ceral on fire. Oh well…haha

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 7:46 am

yes, you are the grill master ๐Ÿ™‚ how could i forget to add that in there?
      love you

  35. sandy on June 21, 2010 at 12:57 am

wow your meal looks so lovely yummy!! especially the goat queso fundido & the shrimp tamales. lol about the cereal fire, pilot!

  36. Rosey Rebecca on June 21, 2010 at 7:34 am

You should kidnap Bobby Flay and make him cook for you! ๐Ÿ™‚ All of the food looks delicious!

  37. Sarah on June 21, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Gina, you can’t tweet him. It will tip him off. He has to be totally caught by surprise when you kidnap him and hold him hostage at your house to cook for you day in and day out. At least that’s my plan. I’m at peace with the fact that eventually his lovely wife will come looking for him in a National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation style rescue and I’ll probably go to jail but if he makes me a burger, it’ll be SO worth it.

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 3:35 pm

LOL. you’re totally right. it has to happen sneakily…
and so, so, worth it. all i want is a shrimp tamale and a margarita
