A B-Flizzle Feast
Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! Hope you’re relaxing it up on this lovely day 🙂
I’m still kind of full from last night’s ridiculous feast.
As ya’ll know, there are two guys that I would really *LOVE* to cook for me.
1) The Pilot
(hubba, hubba)
As perfect-for-me and crazy in love with him as I am, I will say that he’s not a big time cook. He makes awesome eggs, but other than that, I wear the cooking pants in the familia. He gets bonus points for always washing the dishes, though 🙂
2) Bobby Flay (aka B-Flizzle)
I’ve eaten at his amazing restaurant, but since he won’t even answer my tweets (haha) I’m a little doubtful that he would ever personally cook for me 😉
The next best thing?
A homemade Mesa Grill meal for the pilot and I to enjoy 😀
Note: All recipes are from the Mesa Grill Cookbook and many can be found online with mad Google skillz
I’ve gotta say, it felt pretty weird to make tamales by myself– usually it’s a huge tamale party with my familia 😉
I soaked the hojas (pronounced: o-hahz) for a couple of hours:
Wrapped ‘em up:
And steamed them in our new food steamer:
For an appetizer, we had goat cheese queso fundido with roasted poblano vinaigrette (1/2 the recipe, almond milk instead of cow’s, goat gouda for all the cheese, Bucheron goat cheese for the topping)
With organic blue corn chips for dipping:
We also enjoyed some Sophie’s Chopped Salad (named for B-flizzle’s daughter, recipe can be found here – I skipped out on the cheese since we were already bathing in it from the chip’s and queso)
And the star of the show, Shrimp Tamales:
I like to think that the Flay would be proud of me 🙂
After our feast, we took the puppers to the dog park to run around and play:
A lovely night <3
I’m off to do some yoga and run errands.
See ya later this afternoon!
xoxo,
Gina
Looks Great! Especially the goat cheese queso fundido…….yum!
can you come cook that for me in colorado? i can’t pay you or anything, but i CAN give you a free place to stay 🙂
That looks great, Gina! I’d love to have a man cook for me, as well. 😉
Aww, such a cute post, but get that boyfriend in the kitchen! I have mine help me out all the time and he really enjoys it. They must start with dish duty though, haha jk. 😉
husband?
yes, husband 🙂
Sorry, sorry. 🙂
Looks like a glorious feast!! :D:D
Just wanted to let you know..that after doing first day of strength for summer shape up..last night I thought I had the flu has my tummy hurt..But oh no..it wasn’t the flu..it’s from the toe touches and med ball crunches! I swear, it hurt to laugh lol..
haha i’m sorr you’re so sore! make sure to stretch, mm k?
That looks amazing! I definitely want to try that queso! Yum 🙂
I tried making tamales from that book and mine came out nowhere near as tidy as yours! Nice looking feast, for sure 🙂 I have made his salads though, and whilst I minorly tinkered with some to better suit my own tastes, they were all heavenly.
Have a good Sunday!
alright I just want YOU to cook for me
I want to start the Summer Shape Up plan but I do not want to lose any way, only tone.. I was wondering if I changed the plan to be weights, every other day, yoga every other day, and just one day of heavy cardio if that would be ok? (If I do cardio more than twice a week I always seem to lose weight!?)
As long as i do at least a 5 minute warm up plus stretching on weights days do I need to do the other 20 mins of light cardio on those days?
that sounds like a great idea 🙂
I think Bobby Flay would be super proud!! Nice job Gina!
Holy cow that’s quite a feast! I think even Bobby Flay would be impressed with those mad skills. 😉
wow! looks amazing! I love Sophie’s salad, it’s my go to salad. You might have just inspired me to try and make tamales someday!
You never cease to amaze!! 🙂 I took a tamale cooking class once and we made them in class. I have yet to do it at home though!
What an awesome dinner! I gave my mom that cookbook for a holiday, but she accidently left it in Arizona. So no Bobby Flay craziness for us.
I visit your blog almost daily and love it! You always have lots of food variety and you ALWAYS make me laugh 🙂
thank you!
Is that corn I see on the tamales? I thought you weren’t a fan! Everything looks amazing!
you’re right, i hate corn. (i ate the masa in the tamales but the corn on my plate ended up being for garnish, until the pilot ate it- haha)
What a lovely evening!!!! 🙂 🙂
Can I say that I’d love for YOU to be my personal cook??? hehe
what an awesome meal!! WAy to go!!
I have never found a tamale recipe that didn’t have LARD (ewwwh) in it!! 🙂
hahah my family usually skips out on the lard 🙂
I want a shrimp tamale now! The only thing that would have made that feast even better would be a glass of vino. 🙂
you’re telling me! we only had red vino in the house, though
B-Fizzle is one of my fave celeb chefs as well. I think you did an awesome job!
WOW G!!! Your dinner looks amazing!! I think you definitely made B-Flizzle proud with this one. You’ve got mad tamale skills! Have to admit, I’m a little jealous 😉 hehe
what is the food steamer made out of? is it plastic or glass based? random questions haha sorry
plastic
Yum!!!!! That queso looks so delicious… And the pilot > b flay, for sure!
hahah i agree 🙂
Wow, amazing!!!
i have that cook book and looooveeee mesa grill- was the queso hard to make?!
nope, super easy 🙂
Yum yum yum. Dare I say the chopped salad caught my eye as much as the goat cheese fundido? Good thing I’m heading to the grocery store later 😀
Ok, I think I should fly you to Vancouver so you can repeat this meal here 🙂
YUMMMM! Everything looks fab!
Where do you find a steamer? I should really look for one!
XXOO
haha i’d totally do it 🙂
the steamer is from walmart, but i think target has them too
Gina, you should consider doing a post about different juices you’ve made. They all look so delish and nutritious!
Have a great day 🙂
-Lauren
That looks delic! 🙂
Gina!! I have NEVER had a tamale! Well, ok, I have only had Amy’s tamales. But I have always wondered what they are. PLEASE come visit and make me some???
what?! if i’m ever in your neck of the woods, i will bring you some tamales. the amy’s ones are good, but are very different from the *real* thing
WOW what a fabulous looking dinner! Will you please come to Toronto and cook for me? 😉
xo
Kris
of course 🙂
You always make the most amazing looking dinners! I wish I could put together a menu like that. I’ve never actually had a tamale… add it to my long Bucket List of “things I must eat before I die”
I added that cookbook to my library wish list and should be picking it up this week. I had the queso & tamales in Vegas not long after you and they did not disappoint. Mmm. I doubt mine will come out as pretty as yours, but ohh I hope they taste good. Looks great!
Wait, I grill, too! I guess I don’t really make a good case for my culinary skills since I’ve been known to set ceral on fire. Oh well…haha
yes, you are the grill master 🙂 how could i forget to add that in there?
love you
wow your meal looks so lovely yummy!! especially the goat queso fundido & the shrimp tamales. lol about the cereal fire, pilot!
You should kidnap Bobby Flay and make him cook for you! 🙂 All of the food looks delicious!
Gina, you can’t tweet him. It will tip him off. He has to be totally caught by surprise when you kidnap him and hold him hostage at your house to cook for you day in and day out. At least that’s my plan. I’m at peace with the fact that eventually his lovely wife will come looking for him in a National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation style rescue and I’ll probably go to jail but if he makes me a burger, it’ll be SO worth it.
LOL. you’re totally right. it has to happen sneakily…
and so, so, worth it. all i want is a shrimp tamale and a margarita
