Why I’m excited for a little man
Thank you so much for all of the kind comments, tweets and emails about finding out the sex of our now-avocado ๐ Itโs been a blasty to share this experience with all of you- Iโm loving every second <3
So, whenever we tell people weโre having a boy, the first thing they ask is:
โIs Tom SO excited?!โ
โYeah, weโre both thrilled!โ
The thing is, most people automatically figure that the dad would want a boy more and the mom would want a girl more. Not usually the case. We would have been just as thrilled โand I would have cried out of happiness after the ultrasound in the car either way- but were just so stoked to find out. The number one concern was happy and healthy, boy or girl didnโt really matter.
I knew that if we were going to have a girl, she would have Tom wrapped around her little finger and I would know exactly what to do with a girl. With a little boy, even though I have no idea how to play pirates, cars or dragons, there are a lot of things to look forward to.
Here are a handful of the things I canโt wait for, now that we know little nugget is a โheโ:
1) Dressing him in cute little outfits. There are so many fun little boy outfits and it seems like thereโs more color and pattern variety.
Iโm scary excited for beanies with the ears on them. You know what Iโm talking about.
2) Saturday morning sports. I love going to my brosโ athletic events (soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, etc) and it will be so much fun to take Bella with us to our little guyโs sports events, if he chooses to play sports.
3) Watching the Pilot teach him about โguy things.โ Heโs especially excited for playing in the yard, getting dirty, making model airplanes and making breakfast together.
4) I canโt wait to see his facial expressions and sense of humor. I know if he looks like Tom, it wonโt be a bad thing, either ๐
5) Little boys always love their mamas ๐
6) Enjoying him as a baby, without regard to โboy or girlโ- a baby is a baby ๐
One of the guests at work gave me amazing advice. She said โlet your child be young as long as possible. Let him keep his youth because kids are exposed to so many things and grow up so fast.โ It really made me think because right now, parents have worries that our parents never had, especially with the internet, types of song lyrics, movies and video games that are out there. Iโll definitely keep her advice close at heart.
I think the advice of keeping a kid, a “kid” as long as possible is such a great piece of advice.
When me and my fiance talk about maybe having kids later on, I always voice my worries about the kind of world we live in now… My best friends’ cousin who is 13 years old has had sex and it completely freaks me out… kids are growing up so fast these days!
I have always wanted to have a little boy!! I’d love a little girl too, but boy first! And I completely agree with letting your children be young as long as possible-I was raised in the country in the TINIEST town in upstate NY (to this day it still only has one stoplight), and now that I’m older I realize how rare that was. I honestly treasure those times where I could ride my bike outside until dark with my neighborhood friends and we were safe, when oldies were what my parents played on the radio, and “Now and Then” was my favorite movie for years. Now that I think about it, I sound like I’m 80. Haha ๐
I am so unbelievably happy for you and your husband!! I wish you the best with the rest of your pregnancy and thank you so much for sharing all these wonderful & beautiful moments with us readers. It does mean so much to us!!
What a great post! Obviously having a healthy baby is the most important thing but I think a little boy will be so fun! And they do have adorable little boy outfits– hello miniature blazers!! And another bonus of having a boy first is that if you have a girl later then she’ll have a big brother. I felt and still feel so blessed to have grown up with two awesome big brothers so this little guy has big brother potential as well ๐
I was so excited to get to read your post on this because I know in the past before you were pregnant you talked about you and Tom both really wanting girls. My sister was the exact same way, she wanted a little girl more than anything but as soon as she found out she was having a boy she couldn’t care less what the sex was, she was just so excited. Now he’s two and she loves raising a son, but her and her husband are trying to have another one and I know she’s still really wishing for a girl. I think that is my favorite combination, an older brother with a younger sister so the brother can protect his sister. ๐
Great attitude!
Congratulations! I always wanted all boys…we ended up with a baby girl first and wouldn’t change a thing…and yes she does have her daddy wrapped around her finger and my 16 month old boy is defintely a mama’s boy…either way, they are so much fun! ๐ I totally agree with your guest…let them be kids for as long as they can, there is plenty of time for responsibilities…well, unless they are 23 and still living in your basement! ๐
I love this post! I adored having a boy first, even though I wasn’t quite sure when we first found out. I have come to LOVE baby boy clothes … I actually found myself missing them when shopping for our baby girl! When they get older the dress up stuff is especially fun … mini button ups, blazers, and Nikes are soooo adorable! But more importantly, boys have a bond with their mama that is so special, and surprisingly strong, even from infancy. As our little man grows, he blows me away how active he is! Knowing how high energy you and Tom are, you guys will be great boy parents! So happy for you guys. ๐
I love that advice! It’s so true there’s so much out there that make kids grow up faster these days. And you can’t ever go back to being a kid so why not make it last as long as possible!
I love this list! You are going to be an amazing mom! Can’t wait for the little guy to get here!
You know what is even crazier…being prego again, after having a boy…and finding you are having another boy…and when you tell people they say “awww, are you going to try again for a girl”? AS IF HAVING ANOTHER BOY IS A BAD THING! Yes, most of us would like the “pair” boy and girl but how can you be sad about another blessing! Its all in Gods hand and all we really want are healthy babies.
Oh Gina,
He is going to be mama’s precious little boy. Boys are so so SO fun. I am so thankful that I grew up with brothers – they taught me so much, and I had so much more fun playing with their toys. Was never much of a Barbie girl. ๐
I always gravitate towards the boy’s section when I’m buying clothes for Summer. I just love the little overalls, cargo pants, and dinosaurs, etc. So stinkin’ cute!
Love you and oh so happy for you and Tom. Also loved the blue inside the cupcakes. ๐
<3 love the advice. So true. Also, I've told you before, but I am going to remind you again :), to take as many videos, save as many photos, and spend and cherish as many memories with your little nugget as you can. Because sooner rather than later, your little nugget isn't going to be a nugget anymore. My son is 15 months and is in the 95th percentile for weight -___- but was born underweight and early at 5 lb 10 oz. They never stop changing. So document, record, and save every moment you can. <3
Please dress him in a sweater vest and little bow tie!!
and a derby hat. you know i will ๐
My sister absolutely lovesssss aden + anais swaddles for her kids! They are adorable and so comfy!
We had a little boy too, and had much the same reaction that my husband must be so pleased hehe. Baby boys are so much fun, already he is showing his general “boyishness” and I know one day ‘I’ll be there with him building a fort and playing with cars. How wonderful for both you and your husband, a healthy baby regardless of sex is the best thing ever
i want to give you a shout out for number 6 on yr list – i was thinking about gender truly defines how we know how to act with others so much after the canadian couple decided to keep their baby’s gender a secret. it’s kinda scary in a way how everything is so different for boys vs girls.
