Crazy@$$ dreams
I read that pregnancy can heighten every single sense (done and done… I can smell you and most likely guess your perfume from a mile away) and that dreams can become more vivid. This was actually one of the first things I experienced, even when I didn’t know there was a gluten-free bun in the oven. First trimester, I had some crazy@$$ dreams.
I have this weird thing about dreams… yes, some of them are entirely random, but I do believe that they can hint at what the future will bring. There have been way too many times that I’ve had a dream something has happened, only to experience it years later.
Two dreams that stuck out to me during the first trimester both included a baby girl.
This trimester has been more mellow –mostly because I haven’t been sleeping well- up until this past week.
One night involved a rendezvous with Edward Cullen (we’ll just stop there)
and last night, it was cookies.
I dreamt I was eating copious amounts of chocolate chip cookies.
This was extra random to me because I always seem to dream about people or experiences, almost never about food. And it was so detailed:
Barnes and Noble started serving serving fall and holiday-related lattes: pumpkin spice, gingerbread, etc. so they had a party to celebrate their “release.” All customers could have a free latte, so I went with my nana to go get one. We walked in, and they had banquet tables filled with enormous cookies. Covered in glass, kind of like the top of a cake plate. My nana got her latte and was shopping around, and a sales associate approached me to ask which flavor latte I’d like.
“No, thank you, but I keep looking at those cookies over there.”
“You want one? Here ya go”
and proceeds to hand me a cookie the size of my face. Chocolate chip (my fave) and still warm. I eat it + 2 more.
And then wake up.
I think this is telling me I need to make some cookies, right? 😉
Any crazy@$$ dreams lately? Do you brush off dreams, or think they can hint at the future?
I have crazy dreams all the time! I heard that if you tell yourself before you sleep that you will NOT have a crazy dream tonight, that you will be more likely to have good dreams! But that’s a good excuse for making some cookies! Yummm (:
wow, good to know!
Haha, oh my goodness! This is a really strange dream. I had one very similar, but it centered around pancakes. I am a raw foodie, and I don’t actually eat pancakes, so I still don’t really know what it was all about. I wonder if it has more to do with your Nana, than the cookies?
I **love** dreams! I’ve had crazy, vivid dreams as far back as I can remember – and loads have turned out to be meaningful or premonition-type stuff. Mostly I have dreams where I’m the heroine who has to save a bunch of people from something – in my dreams I’m like Jackie Bauer (the female Jack Bauer :P) haha.
Definitely think there’s something to our dreams – it’s like our way of tuning into our subconscious and sorting through all the stuff we don’t consciously pick up on.
Did you make the cookies yet? 😀
This is so funny – I get really vivid dreams too and the ones that are really realistic usually end up happening. It’s so weird.
My dreams are VERY realistic and VERY vivid. This week, I had a dream that two of my friends from home (who used to date when we were in high school) decided to get back together, just to have a baby. My guy friend told me, when I asked him why on Earth they wanted to have a child, that “there isn’t enough beauty in this world, so they thought they’d create something beautiful.”
Needless to say that they both got a HUGE kick out of this when I told them about it ; )
Obsessed. I’ve needed chocolate sooo badd ahaha I had a million cookies and choc chips today
I used to dream a lot and VERY vividly; unfortunately, I haven’t been able to remember a single dream I had within the past six months. I wonder if I haven’t been dreaming as much or if I am just unable to remember them for some reason? Either way, it’s sad 🙁 I LOVED to analyze them and I really do think they’re meaningful.
I’ve had dreams come true, at first it feels like mad deja vu but then I realise where I remember something from. Pretty intense!
I like your dream, and if I had a dream like that when I was pregnant I would certainly be thinking about cookies during the following day! (especially if they were warm chocolate chip ones! haha!)
I also believe in dreams, some of them are definitely meaningful!
Ana
I have had some INSANE dreams throughout my pregnancy. They are so vivid and some are downright bizarre. As I get closer to my due date more and more of them have to do with childbirth and what my baby girl is going to look like. 🙂
And I think your body is DEFINITELY telling you to get to baking some cookies 😉
I made a poozkie or what ever you call them…my husband and I are eating it with ice cream when the kids go to bed tonight
Wow, that is a vivid cookie dream. I don’t think I’ve ever dreamt about food before.
Bake, woman! Bakeeee! The baby is tryin’ to tell you something, obviously! 🙂
that sounds pretty awesome – starbucks around here doesnt do that – plus I am at the US OPEN these two weeks working and guess how much a Lara bar is?………………….5 dollars.
achem,
I laughed out lout at the Edward Cullen part. I always have weird dreams and I love waking up in the morning and telling my boyfriend all about them, but I never really think they mean anything. That could just be because I’ve ever had a really meaningful dream like your little girl ones! I’m actually a little scared for what my subconscious makes up when I have a bun in the oven! 🙂
Dreams are extremely powerful and I never just dismiss them. Sometimes they are what is referred to as “day residue”..meaning it’s our brain’s way of trying to make sense of all the random bits and pieces and so we create these stories that are totally random in a way of trying to tie things together (at least that’s what my old psych professors used to teach us)…and other times, i believe that dreams are foreshawdowing or messages from a higher power/God/the Universe trying to speak to us…so yes, I am hugely into the power of dreams!
And when I was pregnant the smell of people’s colognes and perfumes was about 100x stronger than usual. I actually made Scott stop wearing his cologne b/c I felt like it was soooo powerful and made me sick!
*cue crazy chocolate chip cookie day-dreams*
Clearly your very smart baby girl wants some cookies is the answer to that dream!
I feel you on the crazy sex dreams during pregnancy! One of my weirdest ones was pretty crazy…let’s just say it involved me, my favorite comedian, and a couch floating in the ocean! NOT making this up lol 😀
YES, insane dreams! Had one last night and it is still with me… and I am definitely trying to analyze it, for better or worse 😉
I had a weird dream the other night I was in a building that was huge and Large (my sister’s ex husband) was trying to take off with Alex & Isaac (their kids) so I had to find them before he did and get them out of there for whatever reason. The rooms were huge and there was a lot going on in the room. I would find the children and go to the door to leave, but would wind up in a new room and the kids would disappear, I would have to start my search all over again. Each room the kids were a different age too. Finally after 13 rooms Isaac stayed with me and he was 6, but we had to keep looking for Alex in each room that we went to. We went to 5 more rooms and she kept on disappearing each time we went through the door before I finally woke up.
I’ve had dreams before about seeing an event before it happened. This one time for example I dreamt that a friend forgot to do homework that was assigned to us in class and she turned around to the person behind her and said “Ohh was that due today? Crap!”. The next morning I was getting my homework and lo and behold I hear the same conversation unfold with the same girl from the night before. Needless to say it was a crazy (and cool!) experience.
Why fight it? 😉
Interestingly, I just had a dream last night that I had a boy (I’m pregnant, btw), and that I named him Aaron. This is extra interesting because we had NO IDEA what to name our baby if it’s a boy, but when I told the hubby about the dream, he said he likes the name Aaron (and he’s picky). So even if it’s not “a sign,” it’s still cool! 🙂
Dreams totally hint at the future. I’ve had a number of those. And don’t let anyone tell you that deja vu is crap either! A few times when I’ve gotten deja vu, I distinctly remember having previously dreamt about that event (recently or years beforehand).
But the cookie dream probably just means your body needs something from that cookie for some chemical process. I say, heed your gut, respect the deja vu, and eat a chocolate chip cookie when your body says to. 🙂
i really believe some dreams are firmly related to hormone levels. my period is not terribly regular, but the night before i have my period i always DREAM that i have it. and then it comes. it’s nuts.
I have really crazy detailed dreams once in awhile, but not often. I love dreams where I have so much emotion toward someone (that I may or may not know in my real life)…then I wake up feeling that emotion still. It’s pretty cool.
Dreams cannot predict the future…or don’t hint at futures though. It’s just not possible. Dreams come about from inner desires, thoughts, feelings, experiences, etc.
Im 22 weeks along too with a little girl and peegnancys crazy dreams are no joke! Mine tend to be the crazy rendezvous type lately..it probably doesn’t help that my husband has been deployed for nearly 5 months haha nun like living, pregnancy, and these dreams don’t mix!
omg, that’s the worst! hope you get to see your man soon!
xoxo
Oh boy! Dreams are crazy things…I have insane ones all the time so I hope they don’t tell the future, but I do beleive they can help sort out what’s bothering you or wrong for real.
um. er. believe
I can experience very vivid dreams. The most “psychedelic” dream I had was falling down a rabbit hole like the one in Alice in Wonderland. I remember being very scared at first but then I realized I was dreaming and had a blast with it.
Lately, I’ve been experiencing dreams about my job. I am a lawyer and often when I have a project I am not sure how to tackle, I’ll have a dream where I figure out how to complete it and finish it. These dreams have been immensely helpful. I guess I really can practice law in my sleep. LOL!
Oh Edward Cullen —> the best dream companion ever!
I have a recurring dream – I am usually trying to run away from someone but the only way I can move is by swimming through the air. So it’s sort of like flying but instead I swim:) Unfortunately, I am never very quick when I do laps in the air – I am very slow and the whole thing is exhausting. Has anyone else ever had a dream about flying or swimming (you know, through the air:)
I DEFINITELY believe there’s more to dreams than you might think. Sometimes, I’ll have a dream, and remember a little snippet of it. It’s always something simple, like for example I’ll open a drawer, take out a notepad and turn to a certain page, and I’ll remember it because it’s so clear and vivid. Then a couple of weeks or even months later, that same moment will happen to me in real life. Kind of like deja vu but I know that I dreamt it. It’s kind of freaky but kind of fun and I swear that it really happens! It’s never anything big or important, but I like it 🙂
that’s exactly what happens to me, too! i’m glad i’m not the only one 🙂
the craziest ones are when i’ll be a place i’ve never been before, and then years later, i’ll go there and all of the details will be the same. so insane
Hey Gina! Could you do a post about sleeping (or lack there of) while pregnant? I am just about 22 weeks and am sleeping HORRIBLY…I’m up going to the bathroom all night long, can’t find a comfortable position, etc. It would be a great post and hopefully a conversation starter for people to talk about this??? Thank you! I hope you had a great time at the wedding…I’m Jewish as well and going up in the chair during my wedding was TERRIFYING but such a fun tradition 🙂
that’s a great idea, because i’m sure we’re not the only ones tossing and turning all night 🙂 i would love some tips!
No crazy dreams here but just wanted people’s thoughts on going vegan while trying to get pregnant and staying vegan when you are pregnant. Good for baby? Bad for baby?
i think the major thing about veganism is figuring out the nutrients you’ll need and alternate ways to get them. if you were to do research and plan your meals out accordingly (and possibly add in some supplements), i think you’d be totally fine, but if you were to stop eating meat and dairy without planning out your nutrients, it would be a little rough. definitely talk to your doc and see what he/she suggests
I had three crazy dreams last night! I barely slept at all because I kept waking up from these awful dreams.
Dream #1: My family and I were on an airplane and as it was taking off, my mom decided that she didn’t feel like going with us. So she jumped out of the airplane and safely grabbed onto a fence that we flew over. She was fine, but I was sobbing!
Dream #2: There was a medieval version of my family and there were two versions of my dad-one was an evil twin and he killed his evil twin. weird.
Dream #3: I was trying to get through a crazy maze full of booby traps!
Mmm I love me some Edward Cullen and cookies hahaha ;D
I sometimes dream I have a “binge” on bad foods, and wake up feeling absolutely awefull until I realize, I didn’t actually eat all that junk. It’s just fear, popping up in my dreams…
Just had to come over here & tell you that I read this post yesterday and had crazy dreams last night haha!
haha! sorry! 🙂
Yes you must be craving cookies! Haven’t seen any on the blog recently. Or maybe you need to up your calorie intake? You might just need more fuel and downing cookies is an easy way to rack it up!
amen to that 🙂
That is a sign…. you must make cookies!
i think you’re right 🙂
I have crazy a$$ dreams and an insane sense of smell already…I’m screwed if and when I get pregnant!!
Yep the hidden meaning is definitely to make more cookies! 🙂
I also have weird dreams now so god knows what’s i’ll be like when I’m pregnant!
Ha, what an interesting dream! I definitely think you should make some cookies! And now I want some too, ha
mmm cookies
Edward Cullen and chocolate chip cookies? Not a bad night in dream land. 🙂
My dad had a dream that my middle name was Kristin before I was born, so they made that my middle name.
