New Ballz and Snack Links

It’s about time I expanded my amazeball horizons.

ingredients

I’ve been brainstorming snack ideas that I can have in the fridge, grab and eat, and couldn’t believe how long it had been since I had an amazeball. They’re a great dose of healthy fat and protein- 2 usually does the trick for me. Instead of making the usual chocolate chip ballz, I played with a couple of flavor combinations:

Blueberry-lemon and Cocoa-berry

ballz4

For the blueberry-lemon,

ballz3

here’s what I did:

-Started with the original amazeballz recipe, skipping the chocolate chips and subbing oats for the coconut (I’m out of coconut and oats work just as well)

-Added 2 T dried blueberries

-Zest and juice of 1/2 lemon

-a little more maple syrup for texture

For the cocoa-berry,

ballz2

-I started with the original amazeballz recipe, again using oats

and chocolate almond butter in lieu of regular

choc ab

(tastes like frosting)

-Added 2 T dried mixed berries

-1 t cocoa powder

-a little more oats, since the chocolate almond butter had a different texture

Both flavors were pretty… amazeballz 🙂

Making them in the Vita-mix probably wasn’t the best idea:

vitamix

but my mini food processor was scarified for cookie butter and I can’t seem to remember to order a new one until I need it. Life happens like that sometimes.

The good news is that I had a sleeping kitchen sidekick to hang out with while I scraped every last bit out of the Vita-mix 😉

So tell me, friends: what are you favorite snacks that you can prep in advance, or make quickly?

Here are some of mine:

-Chopped veggies with homemade hummus or ranch dressing

snack plate

-trail mix -I love TJ’s, but it’s also easy to make your own and pre-portion out into little baggies

trail mix

(or straight outta the bag, while driving)

-protein bars

Deb’s protein muffin

-Banana and almond butter, rolled up in a tortilla

Egg puff

It will be fun to get ideas from each other- feel free to link away! (Sometimes when comments include links or are from new commenters, I have to manually approve them, so no worries if it doesn’t show up right away)

Hope you have a great day <3

xoxo

my snack choices usually change with the seasons.. in the summer, its a lot of fruit (watermelon and frozen grapes are awesome), yogurt with berries, granola bars, etc.. in the winter though, im all about the carbs and warm stuff. Ill make up a bunch of soup and freeze it in individual containers, tea, or I’ll bake a loaf of banana bread (or this wonderful meyer lemon bread -http://www.eatliverun.com/meyer-lemon-bread-with-blood-orange-glaze/) and ill eat a slice when my sweet tooth is raging.

by the way, i just made some coconut dark chocolate banana bread.. SO good

Maybe I am super duper lazybones but my go-to pre-prepped snacks are fuits and veggies, and by “prepped” I mean just washing. I have raw almonds in my desk if I need a bit more substance, but I do not dare stash trail mix knowing my inability to exercise portion control. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Also, I have Quest Bars on hand if I can’t squeeze in a meal, which sadly is at least once a week. I highly recommend these soy-free, gluten-free all natural whey protein (20g) bars… and shocker, I can actually read the ingredients. They are pretty tasty, too. I like coconut cashew the best.

Ooooh, these look so yummy! I can’t wait to try them. I made this, but added some protein powder and it was awesome. It’s a pretty good go-to snack.

Ants on a log is a great snack. I use almond butter instead of peanut butter and try tried cranberries instead of raisins. So would that be red ants on a log???

Oh yum, I love these flavour variations for your Amazeballs!

Greek yogurt + granola is my favourite fast snack. Or if I’m on the go, apple slices + almonds is always easy to take with me.

I recently watched a Dr. Oz show (my new fav while walking on the treadmill) and there was a recipe for a muffin using flax, egg, and a few other ingredients, cooked in a mug in the microwave. Total yum! Very quick! Great plain or with PB, AB, etc.

Did your sweet baby stay asleep even when the vita was running?! 😉 That thing is loud- I am always wincing when I make smoothies in the morning in fear of waking up my boyfriend.. lol

So I just totally posted this on the wrong post. So here I am again…
Homemade lara bar type things are the best. Obviously so much cheaper and (to me) better. My kids eat them, too. I find if I just eat handfuls of nuts and fruit, I go overboard too easy. This is a better way for me to portion out how much I’m eating as well. http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/chocolate-covered-recipes/fudge-baby-mania/

Now if I could just convince you to share your macaroon recipe……. 😉

Gina, random question. When you eat smoked salmon, do you eat it cold? Room temp? Or heat it up? I’ve never tried it, but just bought my first pack and I want to make sure I enjoy it haha! Thank you!!

    • Fitnessista on February 22, 2012 at 8:49 am

I like it all if those ways. Cold w goat cream cheese and capers on toast is my fave. Enjoy! 🙂

Whole wheat tortilla with a little nutella and sliced banana – makes a delicious snack!

  14. Miriam on February 22, 2012 at 2:01 pm

    – Celery branch with peanut butter
    – Hard boiled egg with garlic salt, paprika and ground pepper (I also like egg puff with nutritionnal yeast)
    – Super easy chocolate banana soft serve : mixing a chocolate soy pudding & a frozen banana

speaking of chocolate almond butter…did you see Trader Joe’s as a new Chocolate Almond spread. It’s like Nutella, but with almonds. Delish!

Yes! More Amazeballs ideas! Can’t wait to try the lemon blueberrry one. I just made up one today (going off your original recipe) that tastes like a Mounds bar: 1/4 c unsweetened coconut, 1 scoop protein powder, 8 small dates (about 1/4 c chopped), 1 TB Coconut milk, 1 square dark chocolate.

  19. Recipe Review: Amazeballs on July 28, 2015 at 6:07 pm

[…] It’s Recipe Review time in the ELP House and I am exited about this one. I am a huge fan of Fitnessista and when I saw her remix her own Amazeballs I had to give it a try. Protein balls are all over the interwebs and especially in the fitness blogs. There are sooooo many different ways to make them and this summer my obsession has been anything that is lemony with blueberries so I just had to give this one a try. Are you ready for this? For the full recipe for these Lemon Blueberry Amazeballs please check out Fitnessista. […]
