Meg: Clutches
Clutches
Iโve been tempted lately to trade in my oversized handbags to carry a clutch. Purses have always been my favorite accessories, but Iโm wondering if their less complex counterpart would give my outfits a little something extra. I especially love how girly they are. What a fun way to add a bright pop of color to a dull outfit!
(Asos, H&M, Modcloth, American Apparel)
From a practical standpoint, clutches offer less space, which can translate to less clutter. You can buy multiple clutches for the price of one handbag. Clutches are much daintier than handbags, and they range from very large to small size.
Some celebrities that make clutching look fabulous:
Would you swap your handbag for a clutch? Iโm officially hunting for the perfect one.ย

Nope. Not a clutch fan because of the lack of practicality–I like to have both hands free.
Also, the girl in the top right corner looks like she’s holding a pillow.
I carry small purses/clutches because I almost always have a GIANT gym/laptop bag with me and I cannot handle having 2 giant bags to schlepp *everywhere.* It holds my keys/phone/lipgloss and not much else… and I love it. The important stuff stays better organized and safer in the gym bag, I still have everything I could ever want within a few feet of me… but I don’t look like I’m moving in every time I walk into work ๐
I actually carry both almost daily to work. Large bag with all the necessary evils and clutch to pop out for errands and coffee.
I do the same thing. I keep my small clutch inside my larger purse with just the essentials. A small wallet just for my license and some cash, lipgloss, compact and phone. It’s a plus because it’s always ready if I’m going out for a nice dinner that I don’t want to look like a bag lady at ๐
I love clutches for evenings out, but I couldn’t do them too often because they don’t have enough room for all of my daily “necessities”.
I love clutches. I have way more clutches than handbags. I take a handbag to work but a clutch everywhere else. I’m not one of those girls that have a lot of stuff to carry. Typically, I just have my phone, a camera, my card case, and lip gloss.
I think clutches are perfect for the right occasion! I’ve been trying to find a straw-type one for the summer but haven’t had much luck really.
I love clutches, but find them so impractical therefore have a bunch of crossbody bags that are super easy to wear out to a bar, farmers market, or a target run!
love a clutch for going out! most days i carry an ipad, some article of clothing, snacks, etc. and even if the clutch can fit all that it’s not a cute look:)
I only use a clutch if I’m going out at night. Otherwise, it’s big ol’ purses for me!
I think I want a big, bright clutch that folds over – love those!
I have both — purse for everyday stuff, and a clutch for going out — they’re so fun and chic, but not entirely practical!
Clutches are great for a big night out but not so practical for everyday. However, who needs to be practical all the time?!?
I love a clutch! It makes any outfit cuter instantly. A clutch will even bring shorts, a tank, and wedges to another level.
As an owner of several clutches, I can honestly say they don’t work for me at all. Whenever I bring one out I almost immediately regret it. Clothes shopping with one is a pain since you always have to awkwardly tuck it under your arm or place it down someplace you can keep an eye on it. Clubbing with a clutch is so impractical because I like to go all out dancing and not have to worry about knocking out someone’s eye with my belongings. Paying cashiers can sometimes be an embarrassing spectacle if I am holding anything else at the same time. So for me, all my purses need some sort of shoulder strap.

Clutches can be super cute & a good buy in theory. But, they’re impractical because you don’t have both hands free & you can’t carry everything you need. I like them for an evening out only!
I use a wristlet as my wallet, and keep it inside a small handbag unless I’m heading out on a quick errand or to the bar. In theory, clutches are fantastic, but I’m so absentminded that I would just lose one and then have to cry and worry about identity theft. But a clutch with an optional chain handle? Be still my heart!
I actually prefer a smaller purse, which I then tuck inside my larger Vera Bradley tote. My poor tote is getting so worn out! Time for a new one. I have to carry a laptop, charger, textbooks, stethoscope, work ID, school ID, sometimes a change of clothes, always ibuprofen, snack bars… you get the idea. When I’m just running to get something to eat at work or school, I nab the purse out of the tote (or just throw my debit card and cell phone in my pocket!)
The whole “you must carry it in your hand” thing for clutches really nixes them for me. Closest I’ve ever done is a small leather wristlet in Vegas. They’re cute! But so not practical.
I love clutches… That said, I only own one ๐ Always on the lookout for a new one though!
I wouldn’t trade up per se, but I love my Clare Vivier bright blue clutch, which can be seen here:
