Triple Threat Cardio Workout

Come glide with me, let’s glide let’s glide awaaayyyyyyyy…

Twist

I’m playing with the gliders on my lunch break because instead of Zumba, I’m teaching a glide class this afternoon. It’s my first time, so I want to make sure I have enough moves in my back pocket.

Mtn climbers

The whole family is joining in on the fun,

Pushups

but as usual, Bella blew us away with her mad skills.

Gliders

My fitness and teaching schedule shifted around a lot this week, so I updated my weekly plan with the changes)

This morning, Liv and I hung out until the last possible second before I had to leave so the Pilot could sleep in a little, but I somehow managed to forget all of my morning snacks at home. Cue the sad trombone.

At least I had a good breakfast,

Egg and coffee

(2 eggs and 2 egg whites seems to be the magic combo lately)

but when I opened the work fridge about 2 hours later, praying there would be something leftover from our snackstravaganza, I was stoked to see lots of clementines left and the figs I put in there the other day.

Figs and clems

Thank you to the fruit gods for helping me make it through the morning.

We had a nice night last night, and I somehow managed to make it through the entire Hunger Games movie. I really liked it, but still have no desire to read the books. Within the first 10 minutes, I had soooo many questions (why do they get so dressed up for the tribute ceremony? What happened to their dad? Why does everyone in the Capitol seem to be doing so well while everyone in the Districts are suffering?) but I just told myself to enjoy it for what it was and that chances are that it would be harder to understand since I haven’t read the books. It ended up being much easier to follow once the games began, and I liked it. Katniss gave me a ton of new braid ideas, too 😉

I’m going to make some lunch and then teach glide. Hopefully it goes ok!

Have a great day! See ya later on the Fashion page with some of my new finds.

xoxo

    1) They get so dressed up because it’s a televised event – it’s like our Olympics. They do it for “entertainment” – which is why clothes and makeup get such attention.

    2) He died – which leads to her mother’s depression.

    3) The Capitol is able to do so well because it takes everything from the Districts.

I hope this is accurate – it’s been awhile since I read the books, but I do remember that they do a pretty good job of making sense. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but remember thinking that it’s going to be hard to explain so much of the little details in a 2 hour movie.

    • Miranda @ Biting Life on August 25, 2012 at 4:49 pm

They also get dressed up because the Capitol makes them. It’s not like Katniss’ district thinks it’s fun, they’re just kind of forced to look pretty and come watch the reaping.

How come you don’t want to read the books? I thought they were pretty good, but they probably aren’t for everybody I guess.

  2. Melissa on August 25, 2012 at 4:13 pm

You simply have to read the books. The world the author creates is incredibly detailed. The movie was nice visually but really shortchanged the trilogy. I was sucked in from the first paragraph of the first volume. And I *hate* fiction. Get them as audiobooks. Come on! 🙂

  3. char eats greens on August 25, 2012 at 4:17 pm

I would be so stoked to try a glide workout. What other crazy creative things will they come up with next 😛

  4. Emily on August 25, 2012 at 4:22 pm

I swore I would never read the books either. I thought they sounded so stupid! I am SO glad I did!! I bet you would love them too! And they are easy to read!!

  5. Becky @ TheBexFactor.com on August 25, 2012 at 4:23 pm

I had no desire to read the books until I saw the movie. After watching it I HAD to read the books. I strongly recommend it, you will have the entire series done in less than a week. They really do paint a way better picture of the world there and how everything works.

  6. Leanne (Simplicitlee) on August 25, 2012 at 4:27 pm

I love that quote at the bottom of this post. So true <3 .

Those glider things look easy peasy but they really intensify things!

  7. Bonnie on August 25, 2012 at 4:32 pm

That salsa on the eggs looks great. Homemade or storebought? 🙂

  8. Michelle @ Eat Move Balance on August 25, 2012 at 4:37 pm

Love the quote! Definitely something to live by!

  9. Averie @ Averie Cooks on August 25, 2012 at 4:39 pm

You look awesome and love the bright and fun shoes! And figs..mmm, how I’d love one right about now!

  10. Laura @ She Eats Well on August 25, 2012 at 4:52 pm

If you are a fig lover, you should try grilling them…I had them last night atop radicchio and sprinkled with goat cheese. Twas lovely.

A family that works out together, stays together! 🙂 I love that even Bella got into the action. Too cute! Have a great weekend!

  13. The Fit Girls Dish on August 25, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Hey Fitnessista! Love this post…I’ve used those gliders before – they are killlllllller on the abs. Where do you purchase those?!

  14. Canada Kelly on August 25, 2012 at 6:08 pm

I watched the movie before I read the 1st book and I found that they complimented each other very well. There were things left out of the books that were in the movies and there were things left out of the movies that were in the books. Either way, but watching/reading both it answered all my questions.

  15. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on August 25, 2012 at 6:26 pm

Love the workout! I’m so impressed with Bella’s skills on those gliders! Have a great weekend 🙂

  16. Hillary on August 25, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I used the gliders during mountain climbers for the first time ever today. HOLY CRAP.

  17. Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy on August 25, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I never read the Hunger Games books, and the movie made me feel anxious. I thought that it was so sad! Everyone tells me that I was just thinking too much, but I don’t think so. I have no desire to read the books, so I guess I’ll never know what I’m missing, haha.

  18. Darien on August 25, 2012 at 6:54 pm

the book (as usual) is far better than the movie. its so nuanced and well written, everything is written so well and doesnt leave much by way of unanswered questions. the movie was really only made for those that read the book- it just didnt have as much depth!

  19. Sarabell on August 25, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I hope you’ll give the books a chance! They really are awesome, fifty times better than the movie. (Also, every one of your questions would be answered within probably the first 50 pages of that first book).
I didn’t know those gliders were actually a good workout. I’ve seen them on infomercials before but thought they were a scam (like those awesome little electrolysis belts that work-your-abs-so-you-don’t-have-to, he he) so maybe now I’ll look into them more.

  20. Carrie on August 25, 2012 at 7:07 pm

You really do need to read the books. The author is a wonderful storyteller.

  21. Kailey on August 25, 2012 at 7:33 pm

LOVE gliding (or rather, paper plate-ing, ha)! I can always feel the burn the next day 😉
Any chance you might make a glide workout video? That would be rockin 🙂
Going to have to try the Triple Threat too!

  22. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on August 25, 2012 at 7:43 pm

I LOVE the Hunger Games. Omg as soon as I started reading it I couldnt put the books down, I read them through straight!

And I love your inspirational quote at the end, so true!

  23. Cathy on August 25, 2012 at 7:57 pm

Those Glide things look cool! I bet they got the whole family’s abs burnnning!!

I’m not going to read Hunger Games either nor 50 Shades of Grey 😉

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2012 at 8:19 pm

for 50 shades i can confidently say you’re not missing anything

  24. Jenny on August 25, 2012 at 8:56 pm

I am one of the few people that thought The Hunger Games (the book) was very overrated. Glad I read it, just to have a point of reference when all the rest of the world was discussing it, but I didn’t bother to read the other two in the series.

  25. Liz on August 25, 2012 at 8:59 pm

“the only thing you should save is money” from your quote of the day? I would find that easier to believe you follow that if you’re not out buying $230 Tory Burch flats. I don’t get why you frequently mention you save money and budget.

50 Shades of Grey was very good, the trilogy ended in being a good story and considering that you said you didn’t get through the first book, how can you comment about it? I suspect you go along with those who say its “poorly written.”. If you’re looking for Shakespeare, go buy it. If you’re looking for an easy read that’s entertaining, buy it. If you’re prudish about sex, no problem, don’t read it. I can’t see where you should be confident about it though.

I actually enjoy some of your quotes of the day. I just find them hypocritical on your blog. However that’s my problem, I don’t have to read your blog!

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2012 at 10:17 pm

we have a pretty aggressive savings plan and have since we paid off our debt when we first got married. i have one pair of new tory burch flats and they were a special treat, i don’t think it’s a big deal. many women own high-quality shoes that they expect to wear a long time and we budget so that we can afford nice things if it’s something that is important to us.

i thought 50 shades was atrocious. i love trashy girl novels just as much as anyone, but if i had to read the phrases “oh my,” and something abut the inner goddess doing a grand jete, i was going to break my kindle. it could have been an awesome book but was very poorly written, to the point that i found it distracting. i think 70% is a good amount to finish before making an assessment.

      • Amy on August 26, 2012 at 4:56 am

What a highly judgemental comment. I don’t think you should have to apologise for your spending habits or your reading preferences, they’re your own business and don’t need to be shared with someone who read one quote and remembered you buying one pair of shoes and therefore used it as a basis to attack you. You obviously don’t go out buying tory burch flats and letting your child go hungry, slight overreaction.

I don’t think we need to get into a 50 shades mud-throwing match, but I personally won’t even open it because I read a few quotes and thought they were terrible. Just because everybody else is reading it doesn’t mean you have to try and like it.

        • melissa lillie on August 26, 2012 at 9:25 am

Ugh Ugh Dont we already have enough nasty comments in this world?? Glad I dont see these too much in your comments. I hope you dont have to see them to much either,

On another note- I would love to see a glide workout and some options. I use them in a TRX class but at home just use paper plates and they work great!

          • chrissy on August 26, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Wow I’m impressed! I wish we didnt have a mortgage or car payments either:( I also watched the hunger games and skipped the books. I survived! Way to handle that silly nasty co
Mment! I didn’t not liking mommy porn made you a sex prude. Cuz nothing says fuego like unleashing your inner goddess and acting clueless.

    • Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on August 26, 2012 at 2:28 pm

How ridiculous of a comment. Would it make more sense if someone bought 12 pairs of $30 shoes over the course of 2 or 3 years that ended up falling apart and needing to be replaced versus one pair of more expensive shoes that will last for years and years?

I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey either, but I’ve read parts of it and found it so poorly written I couldn’t even consider reading the books based on that alone. I’m certainly not “prudish” just because someone doesn’t like a poorly written book doesn’t mean they are a prude, it just means they don’t like poorly written books.

  26. Cristina on August 25, 2012 at 10:22 pm

The story is WAYYYYYY more enjoyable when you have all the insider info of the character’s thoughts like you do in the book. I would have voted for you to read the book and not watch the movie, but I liked having visuals for all the characters.

  27. mary-elsye on August 25, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Read the books !! they put the movie to shame. It watched the movie afterwards and honestly don’t know how how someone would understand what was going on in the movie without reading the books. So much of the story goes on in Katniss’ thoughts that wasn’t portrayed in the movie at all.

  28. Sarah on August 25, 2012 at 10:55 pm

I too never wanted to read Hunger Games. I was WRONG! The books leave no detail untouched. The movie glossed over everything and barely touched on anything substantial. All of Katniss’ thoughts were not in the movie, which would make it impossible to really understand it for those who hadn’t read the books.

  29. Verhanika on August 26, 2012 at 12:54 am

Just read the books. Quick read. Jars your reality a bit, but super interesting.

  30. Nada (One Arab Vegan) on August 26, 2012 at 2:24 am

Gina – Just want to post here and say thank you for all your quick short workouts. They’ve been such a lifesaver lately (just started a new job, getting settled moving in back at home etc.) and are super effective. Can’t wait to try this one!

  31. Emily on August 26, 2012 at 4:25 am

Like many others, I do recommend that you actually read The Hunger Games- at least try the first one and see what you think. The movie was by far the best book-to-movie adaptation I’ve ever seen. And I’m with you on Fifty Shades- I read the first one, and it was just poorly written porn. Ugh.

  32. Rebecca on August 26, 2012 at 7:38 am

The questions you had while watching The Hunger Games are the reason to read the books. Your mind is already into the story and asking questions about things in it that don’t seem to make sense. I bet you would REALLY enjoy them.

  33. Timmy on August 26, 2012 at 8:17 am

The dog is trying to workout with you cute!

  34. Kaolee on August 26, 2012 at 10:01 am

I love that quote! That was a perfect reminder for me.

  35. Jess on August 26, 2012 at 1:15 pm

    Looks like a killer workout!!

  36. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on August 26, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Gliding workouts are no joke, certainly booty kickers!

I felt The Hunger Games movie was really on fast forward, but of course when making a book into a movie it has to be that way otherwise it’ll be 12 hours long.

  37. Stephen on September 12, 2012 at 4:07 pm

I tried your workout and I absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed switching to different machines because staying on one machine too long drives me crazy. I also follow a pretty regimented supplement diet to increase the effects of my workout, I used to use fish oil but It was disgusting but now I user mega red, it’s a great alternative. http://www.schiffmegared.com/ Using mega red and exercising helps to ensure that my heart stays healthy.

  38. kay on October 21, 2012 at 3:04 pm

I did this workout today and then the bring on the week ab burner. I love that I just have to get myself dressed and in the mindset to go to the gym and I can just pick one of your workouts and I won’t be bored. This is the first time I picked a cardio, and I was so glad that I almost liked it as much as weights. Thanks!

  39. Amy on March 22, 2013 at 9:02 pm

I am sure other people have said this – but the Hunger Game books are SOOOO Much better than the movie (although Jennifer Lawrence is an incredible actress) which is why you should always read books first before watching the movie. The Hunger Games series is amazing…everyone who has read them that I know has agreed! go for it!
