Meg: Milkmaid Braids
When Iโm feeling a little bored with top-knots or if I have no time to curl my hair, milkmaid braids are a great option. They can be worn dressy or casual! I find that braids make for a romantic and girly look, especially if adorned with a flower!
What youโll need:
Rubber bands, teasing comb, smoothing brush, bobby pins, and hairspray.
Tease your crown to add volume. Pin the teased section to secure the volume, and give it a spritz of hairspray. Use the smoothing brush to smooth the flyaways and bumps.
Separate your hair into two halves, and braid into pigtails. The hairstyle will work better if your braids are further back. Secure your braids with rubber bands.
Continually use the smoothing brush to avoid flyaways. Pull one braid across your head, and secure with a couple of bobby pins.
Repeat on the other side. Pin any out of place hairs down with bobby pins. Spritz some hairspray to keep the hair in place. Tada!
Have you ever rocked the milkmaid braids?

Cute! Thanks for sharing. Love how the shower curtain (guess?) doubles as a backdrop!
i love braids and the milk maid style, but any tips for seriously thick heavy hair and keeping it in place? i don’t have time to put a gazillion bobby pins in my hair (that’s how much it took to keep my hair up for my wedding).
And Meg, you are a very beautiful lady ๐ love your style.
Meg’s sister here (with obscenely thick hair) here…I love this look because while it looks cute and whimsical on little Meggie’s head, it makes a statement with thick hair! I get stopped all the time when I wear my hair like this. I wish I could say there is an easier way, but it takes me between 10 and 20 bobby pins to get it to stay (depending on whether they’re the huge bobby pins or regular sized ones). But I don’t find that it takes me too much time. A little messiness adds to the look. : )
Have you tried the spin pins from goody? I don’t have super thick hair but I use them in all kinds of up dos (not just buns) to replace most of my bobby pins and it really works! For this I’d just spin it back into the braid and be sure to get it snug, it might help!
This is one of my favorite go-to looks when I’m having a bad hair day, or just don’t have the energy to do anything more involved. ๐
So freaking adorable!!!
I have never been able to pull this off, and now my hair is too short! Hopefully someday though!
