Fall Wardrobe Staples
Hi friends! How’s your day going?? Hope you’re having a wonderful morning. I’m hitting up the gym for a quick upper body workout and then we’re heading to the bay to play for a while. I still have a mountain of laundry to do, but it can wait until P’s naptime. Livi has music class later today (so fun) and I teach barre tonight.
Since the weather has been cooling down (for the most part, minus the freak heat wave we’re experiencing), I thought it would be fun to talk fall fashion today.
Remember when I did a capsule(ish) wardrobe??
Well I think we all know how well that worked out for the long term. I think my thing is that I revert to the pieces that I love and use them over and over again, but end up rotating some of the more trendy pieces in the mix. The current exception: the 1990s trends that are currently back in style. About 99% of them make me want to die, and also brought back vivid memories of badly-fitting mom jeans, feeling cool while wearing my new embroidered and patches jacket, plus rejection from my middle school crush while wearing JNCO jeans, a CK One top and a choker. Never again. Never again.
Even though I’m not doing a traditional capsule wardrobe, I’ll definitely have my staples that I rotate through throughout the season. I thought I’d share some of my favorite pieces for a mild fall/winter.
If you have any faves you’re currently loving, or something you’re scoping out, please shout it out in the comments section! I always love virtually shopping with you all. 😉

That cutout sweater I think I need. I’m always looking for unique clothes that are a bit on the edgy side.
same! i like that it has a little something special to it
I pretty much went shopping directly from these links. You should do these posts more often! It makes me consider styles I wouldn’t otherwise (and is just a lot of fun!)
yay, i’m so glad you found some new goodies! i love reading posts like this too! it’s always fun to get new ideas 🙂
I’m all about plaid shirts, skinny jeans, and boots in the fall. Though I recently purchased a sleeveless turtleneck from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that’s getting it’s fair share of wear, too!
Trends for Fall… I can still rock a classic choker. But velvet?! Maybe in some accessories, but why oh why is it all over the runways. There’s no need to bring me back to that ill-fitting fabric, ha!
Thanks for sharing your favs!

there are so many things that are coming back that i’m like NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
That printed flat from J Crew is super cute! I’m not much of a heel wearer (I prefer my shoes to be comfy), so I could totally see myself wearing them.
i love them, too!!
Ha! ” JNCO jeans, a CK One top and a choker.”
That brought back some vivid images for me. I lovED chokers!! Thank you for that. 😀
hahah so many chokers. i’m right there with ya
LOVE everything that you linked…. Fall is one of my favourite times of the year, especially for the fashion. I was recently pleasantly surprised by a pair of skinny pants from Walmart of all places! They are by the brand Jordache and cost $25 here in Canada. I can’t find a link, but they are skinny denim leggings that still have pockets and a zipper. They are super soft and stretchy, and are SO comfy! They have pretty fall colours like maroon and olive green (I got green!). Over all a great find for a great price! 🙂
love finds like that!! they sound amazing! 🙂
xoox
I love blazers & boots in the fall. I can’t wait to get more jeans…while I love skinny jeans, I love flared jeans and the wide leg cut. Boots…I still can’t get enough of OTK ones. Flats, short stacked heel, stiletto…love them all. I am on the hunt for a nice, black, flat pair.
I’m obsessed with Tom’s fringe booties! The heel is the perfect height for all occasions and they go with virtually everything! They’re super comfy, plus they support a good cause. Also, I’m hankering for a army green cargo jacket. I also want a big floppy hat. The French Fashion House Tarjay, has some great fall sweaters, too.
I’m right there with you on most of the 90s trends…noooo.
I tried a capsule wardrobe once and failed miserably. I usually just buy things I really like and find a way to make it work. I do like to invest in quality shoes, boots, etc. I just broke down and bought some tieks and I’m looking for some nice brown leather boots for fall. Considering Frye boots, but I’ve heard once you get some, there’s no going back 😮
I remember you looking pretty dope in JNCO jeans and tattoo chokers 🙂 These updates are better suited for adult Gina though. You have such good taste/style and you did in the late 90’s too!
LOL. oh man, a person who has seen my 90s style in real life 😉
ps the red dress in your last post is everything
